Ella Langley Says Miranda Lambert Helped Her Through”Imposter Syndrome” At ACM Awards: “You Belong Here”

Ella Langley Says Miranda Lambert Helped Her Through”Imposter Syndrome” At ACM Awards: “You Belong Here”

The best mentor you could have. Earlier this year, Ella Langley took home four ACM awards including New Female Artist of the Year, ACM Single of the Year, ACM Music Event of the Year, and ACM Visual Media of the Year (as an artist and producer) for her hit song “you look like you love me” with Riley Green. She had a huge night, but she’s commented here and there that it was mentally very tough for her, even though it looked from the outside as though she should’ve been on cloud nine. I have to imagine that it was all extremely overwhelming, and during a recent radio interview, Ella talked about how much Miranda Lambert helped her through it. Ella performed Miranda’s hit “Kerosene” with her during the show, and they also wrote a song together recently which had been on Ella’s “vision board” for a couple years: “I do, I do them every year. I’ve been doing them with me and my photographer Caylee, and my manager Megan and there’s always one or two extra people in there every year. But we do them around New Year’s Eve it started. This last year we had a show on New Year’s Eve, but I think we did it the day before or after, but yeah, every year I do one and it’s crazy to see the things that are on there. I had a big picture of Miranda Lambert on there two years ago, and it had a little book next to it about writing and I got to ride with her last last year for the first time and it was just really cool… I even showed it to her, I was like, ‘Don’t think I’m weird. I understand this is weird.’ She was like, ‘That is really weird.'” Not long after that, Ella found herself onstage performing with one of her musical heroes, and it was a whirlwind experience. Ella had just two minutes to change from her red carpet dress to her onstage outfit, and she said people were putting earrings on her and helping her change so she could be ready to go open the show. That week leading up to it, Ella and Miranda had done rehearsals together, and Ella explained that Miranda kept reminding her that she deserved to be there, and not to let the imposter syndrome get the best of what was an incredible experience and dream come true: “Well, the ACM’s were absolutely insane. I had to change into the outfit from my carpet out fit in two minutes. I had two minutes to do that and that was actually insane. I had people putting on earrings on either side, I’m jumping in jeans, putting on a shirt, putting on boots, putting on lipstick. I mean, it was just nuts… taking my hair down, everything. But we got to do a rehearsal earlier that day, and really that whole week. And she’s someone, I mean, I talked to her yesterday on the phone and she’s always somebody… you know, she’s been here before, and there’s not really a rulebook to everything. And I think everyone’s experience is much different, but yeah, she can definitely have some advice on, ‘Well, this is what I’ve been doing, and this is how I felt.’ So in a day is massive is performing on the ACMs with somebody you’ve looked up to for so long, she just was very comforting and like, ‘You belong here, you belong here.’ She kept killing the imposter syndrome in my brain.” It’s so important to have women like this as mentors, especially at this very early stage in Ella’s career, and it sounds like she’s found a real friend in Miranda and at the very least, someone who understands the position she is in, which so few can really relate to. I imagine it has to be pretty shocking and surreal the first time you have such a big night at a show like that, and while it’s surely exciting, not many artists talk about the harder parts of bursting onto the scene and having so much responsibility thrust upon you like what Ella’s been experiencing since she’s really started blowing up this year and some last year. I think they did a great job at the ACM’s, and “Kerosene” will forever be iconic: The full interview: The post Ella Langley Says Miranda Lambert Helped Her Through”Imposter Syndrome” At ACM Awards: “You Belong Here” first appeared on Whiskey Riff.

Zak Starkey gives details of his firing from The Who

After 29 years as the drummer of The Who, Zak Starkey was fired twice by the band recently after a feud with Roger Daltrey. Everything started during a show where Roger Daltrey felt he was playing some wrong parts. In an interview with The Telegraph the musician revealed more details about why he was fired by the band which nowadays have the two original members Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend. Zak Starkey gives details of his firing from The Who "What happened was I got it right and Roger got it wrong," Starkey said, explaining that Roger Daltrey "(came) in a bar early" and blamed him for the mistake. Although there was not backstage discussion after the who, he received a phone call from their manager a week later. "'It's my unfortunate duty to inform you… that you won't be needed from now on. Roger says you dropped some beats.'" According to him Pete Townshend "had to go along with it because Pete's had 60 years of arguing with Roger." Pete later called him and he ended up re-joining the band but he had to say that he was the one who made a mistake during that show. Two weeks later they told him: "Roger says he can't work with you no more," and said that he should release a public statement that he was leaving the band to do work on side projects. But he declined "because I wasn't leaving (of my own volition)." "They didn't specify (Why Roger didn't want to work with him again). I blame The Who (for all this) because they're unpredictable, aggressive and fucking insane, and that's why I love them." Surprisingly, he also said that Roger Daltrey recently called him saying he shouldn't get his drums out of The Who's warehouse because they might need him. He was replaced by Daltrey's solo band longtime drummer Scott Devours. Devours is one year younger than Starkey and is American. He was previously part of bands like Oleander and IMA Robot. He is a good friend of the band and works with Daltrey for more than a decade already. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oeQebo7yYCs&t=11s&pp=ygUad2hvIGlzIHRoZSBuZXcgd2hvIGRydW1tZXI%3DThe post Zak Starkey gives details of his firing from The Who appeared first on Rock and Roll Garage.

Duff McKagan shares his love for Black Sabbath

The Guns N' Roses bassist Duff McKagan has been a huge fan of Black Sabbath, band originally formed in Birmingham, England in 1968 by Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward. He grew up listening to them, learned to play their songs and also enjoyed the Ronnie James Dio era as he said during a Q&A session. Duff McKagan shares his love for Black Sabbath "When I was a little kid, FM radio started, and I had all these older siblings. And we had a stereo in the living room of our house, and they would play FM radio. And what FM radio did then was play a whole side of a record, and it was rock — rock and roll music. So it'd be (Jimi) Hendrix and whatever." "I remember hearing 'Iron Man' for the first time, whatever year that was, and however old I was — young — thinking 'Iron Man' was, 'Wow.' It was like a cartoon thing. And 'What is this song?' And (it) was kind of accessible for me. And a few years later, when I started playing guitar, I could figure that song out. And Sabbath and Ozzy just remained a constant." "I love the 'Never Say Die!' record, which is '78. Some people kind of passed over that stuff. Sabbath going with Dio was a really cool period. And Ozzy going on his own and doing his thing was… He became an icon, I think, when he went solo, whatever that means. But there's certain… Iggy (Pop), Lemmy, Ozzy, Prince — there was these constants in rock and roll, and Ozzy remains that.," Duff McKagan said (Transcribed by Blabbermouth). Guns N' Roses will be part of the upcoming final Black Sabbath show that will happen next July 5 in Birmingham. It will also be Ozzy's final solo career concert. The bassist was part of Ozzy's band during his most recent albums "Ordinary Man" (2020) and "Patient Number 9" (2022). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dBF78tA443A&pp=ygUMb3JkaW5hcnkgbWFu0gcJCd4JAYcqIYzvThe post Duff McKagan shares his love for Black Sabbath appeared first on Rock and Roll Garage.

Van Zant reveals what Gary Rossington said about Skynyrd continuing without him

The guitarist Gary Rossington was the final surviving member of Lynyrd Skynyrd who was still part of the band and when he passed away in 2023, the band quickly decided to continue with no original members. In an interview with WHDAFM, Johnny Van Zant, vocalist of the band  and younger brother of the late Ronnie Van Zant, revealed what Rossington told him about Skynyrd continuing without him. Their current line-up has Rickey Medlocke (Guitar), Johnny Van Zant (Ronnie’s young brother – vocals), Dale Krantz-Rossington (Backing vocals), Carol Chase (Backing vocals)< Michael Cartellone (Drums), Mark Matejka (Guitar), Peter Keys (Keyboards), Keith Christopher (Bass) and Damon Johnson (Guitar). Johnny Van Zant reveals what Gary Rossington said about Skynyrd continuing without him "I was a Skynyrd fan before I was offered to be a part of this. But I walked in a room in 1986 with his 'little brothers,' because he was the alpha dog and the oldest one, and they are all still really hurting from this horrible, horrible crash and asked me to be a part of it. And I know, sitting here today in 25 that I did the right thing." "Before Gary passed, he told me and Rickey (Medlocke), 'Man, you know, I've spent my whole life keeping this music alive for my brothers who passed in '77. I don't want to see it end.' And to me, that was him telling me, 'Hey, keep going, man, as long as you can.' So, as long as I can, I'll be out there playing these songs, and seeing that '8 to 80' crowd," Johnny Van Zant said (Transcribed by Ultimate Guitar).
