Gasbag Al Green Will Probably Lose His Seat

The new redistricting map passed the Senate and is headed for Gov. Abbott’s desk. It will likely get Al Green kicked out. That would be a blessing. His district is now solid red. Green is the strange duck who screams “Impeach Trump” every five minutes. He promised to impeach him again, saying he has to […] The post Gasbag Al Green Will Probably Lose His Seat appeared first on www.independentsentinel.com.

Trump On Tariff Investigation Into Furniture Imports: Bring ‘Business Back’ To U.S.

President Donald Trump said on Friday his administration will conduct a “major” tariff investigation on furniture entering the United States, a step toward imposing higher duties on a sector already seeing tariff-fueled price increases. “Furniture coming from other Countries into the United States will be Tariffed at a Rate yet to be determined,” Trump said in a post on Truth Social. Furniture retailer RH — previously known as Restoration Hardware — shares fell 7.5% in after-hours trading on Trump’s announcement. Trump said the investigation will be completed within the next 50 days but other national security probes have taken significantly longer than that. A White House official confirmed that it would be conducted under the Section 232 national security statute. The probe could serve as a backstop legal basis for existing tariffs if a federal appeals court strikes down “reciprocal” duties that Trump imposed on a broad range of U.S. trading partners in April, as well as import taxes imposed in February against China, Canada and Mexico. “This will bring the Furniture Business back to North Carolina, South Carolina, Michigan, and States all across the Union,” Trump said. Furniture and wood products manufacturing — which employed 1.2 million people in 1979 — has fallen from 681,000 in 2000 to 340,000 today, according to government statistics. End of Summer Sale – Get 40% off New DailyWire+ Annual Memberships The United States imported about $25.5 billion in furniture in 2024, up 7% over 2023, with about 60% of those imports coming from Vietnam and China, according to Furniture Today, a trade publication. New tariffs on imports from furniture-producing countries helped push up consumer prices for home furnishings by a steep 0.7% in July, according to Commerce Department data, though overall consumer price inflation was restrained by lower gasoline prices. The American Home Furnishings Alliance, a trade group representing domestic furniture manufacturers and importers, including many companies that do both, had no immediate comment on Trump’s announcement. But the High Point, North Carolina-based AHFA in April led an industry coalition in opposing new tariffs under Trump’s ongoing Section 232 investigation into lumber and wood products imports. “As a strictly legal matter, there is no rational relationship between imports of wood products or furniture and the national security of the United States,” the group said in written comments to the Commerce Department. “Second, no amount of tariffs will bring back American furniture manufacturing back to its prior levels. Tariffs will harm manufacturing still being done in the United States.” Furniture would be the latest imported products targeted for a national security investigation by the Trump administration. On Thursday, it announced a national security probe into imported wind turbines and has previously targeted copper and other metals. The department has opened numerous probes into the national security ramifications of imports of airplanes, semiconductors, pharmaceuticals, heavy trucks, timber and lumber, critical minerals and drones. The European Union won some relief from these potential new Section 232 tariffs as part of a joint statement on Thursday fleshing out their trade deal. The two sides agreed to limit any new U.S. tariffs on EU pharmaceuticals, lumber and semiconductors to the general 15% rate applied to most products from the bloc and will shield EU aircraft and parts, generic pharmaceuticals and drug chemical precursors from all new tariffs. Netanyahu: Debased Liberal Media Side With Iran and the 'Barbarians'

Netanyahu: Debased Liberal Media Side With Iran and the 'Barbarians'

The headline in The Washington Examiner was blunt and to the point. It read:  Liberal media have debased themselves in their anti-Israel coverage The Examiner reported:  Mainstream liberal media outlets have consistently gotten stories wrong about Israel and Gaza, trusting the word of Hamas terrorists and their United Nations supporters. As the war has gone on, though, these outlets are choosing to debase themselves more and more, even going as far as to knowingly peddle false narratives and write sob stories for terrorists. The New York Times has served as an unofficial propaganda organ for Hamas for decades. In 2014, Noah Pollak detailed for the Washington Examiner how The Times only published pictures of civilians in Gaza, never of Palestinian terrorists or militants. The outlet was one of many to run with the false hospital bombing story in the aftermath of Oct. 7, where “500 Palestinians” (a few dozen) were killed when a “hospital” (parking lot) was struck by an Israeli (Palestinian Islamic Jihad) missile. In short, you could call this assessment the liberal media versus Israel.  There was much to ponder over this. I say this having just returned from a Newsmax TV-sponsored, week-long trip to Israel. (Full disclosure, I am a Newsmax contributor.) The trip had two parts. One was a days long walking tour of Jerusalem, one of the world’s oldest and historic cities. The second part was a series of get-togethers with various members of the Israeli government, from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to the Israeli President, its various Cabinet and Knesset members and others. And it was the liberal media’s repeated pushing of what The Examiner correctly called “false narratives” that was specifically addressed by the Prime Minister in his welcoming speech to those of us in Newsmax. Said Netanyahu to Newsmax of the liberal media coverage:  "Thank you, Newsmax, for helping us on the eighth-front war: seven fronts against Iran and its proxies, the eighth front — the battle for truth…..And, Newsmax, you have let the truth circle the globe against the lies that have circled it before and continue to do so...There's only one way to beat the lies, and that's with the truth. The Prime Minister made a point of describing Israel’s enemies as “barbarians at the gate.” He added:  When I say barbarians, this is not hyperbole. It's not only the goal of destroying Israel; it's the method they use to murder and mutilate the heathen, as they call them. He flatly rejected the liberal media stories of Israel waging famine in Gaza or committing genocide. "The genocidal element is Hamas," he declared. The genocidal element is the Iranian axis that openly calls for the annihilation of Israel, the extermination of Jews in America, and for the death of America itself.  As Newsmax reported, the Prime Minister bluntly attacked The New York Times “for publishing misleading images to support famine allegations.” Netanyahu added that fighting misinformation is now an "eighth front" in the war, alongside military and humanitarian efforts.  Journalists on the Newsmax tour were taken to a couple of sites in particular that deserve serious media attention. The first was a soccer field where kids were playing soccer -- only to have Hezbollah fire rockets at the field, killing twelve Israeli kids. The second was the site of the Nova music festival where a concert was ongoing when the terrorists suddenly appeared and raided the grounds, massacring almost 400 concert attendees.  Suffice to say it would be a decided understatement to say that the liberal American media’s depictions of what has been going on in this latest surge of Hamas/Hezbollah terrorist violence in Israel has been grossly inaccurate. Seemingly deliberately reversing the facts on the ground, painting the bad guys as the good guys and the good guys as the bad guys. The Prime Minister “linked current accusations (by the media against Israel) to centuries-old antisemitic blood libels, recalling false charges in the Middle Ages that Jews poisoned wells or used Christian blood in rituals — lies that helped pave the way to the Holocaust.” Not good. Not good at all. The real problem here for The New York Times and other liberal media is that they are sabotaging - maybe make that “further sabotaging” - their own credibility.  And however one looks at it, it isn’t good. Will they change and get to fact-based journalism covering the war instigated by the murderous terrorists of Hamas against the Jewish State of Israel? Will they move on from the idea of the liberal media versus Israel? Don’t hold your breath. All of which would indicate that in dealing with Hamas Prime Minister Netanyahu - not unlike President Reagan before him in dealing with the Cold War -- has one serious option at hand. That would be: “We win, they lose.”

The radical left is poisoning our schools — here's how we fight back

Two hundred and fifty years ago, my great-grandmother’s great-grandfather pledged his life, his fortune, and his sacred honor to help forge this great nation. In the centuries since, Americans have celebrated triumphs, endured hardships, and mourned tragedies. Our union, like Old Glory herself, bears scars — marks of a nation that is imperfect but resilient. We must advocate for an education that promotes building and creating, that equips young people with the tools to succeed in a complex world. While the United States was founded on a bedrock of Enlightenment values and principles, they are under ideological assault — not from external enemies, but from within our own K-12 schools. In order for us to preserve this constitutional republic for posterity, we must not only expose these destructive far-left, anti-Western-civilization ideologies and their adherents, but we must also counter them by offering a better vision — one rooted in the timeless principles that built this nation and can guide future generations. We need to fight for a “more perfect union” that is noticeably better today than yesterday. Unfortunately, Wormtongue has the ear of education.History hijackedCloaked under the guise of “culture” and “history,” ethnic studies is a far-left political programming that brings together a “Red-Green Alliance” bent on ending capitalism and overturning stability.Proponents such as the teachers' unions, Black Lives Matter, the Democratic Socialists of America, and anti-Israel activists are using K-12 schools to advance their agenda by seeding their radical ideology into curriculums and training the youth to be social justice street activists.Based on cultural Marxist Paulo Freire’s work, ethnic studies teaches children to obsess over their identities, find oppression and racism in every corner of society, and resent those who are perceived to have more “privilege” than them. It then presents students with a new set of “heroes” and idols such as the Black Panther Party, the Third World Liberation Front, and even Che Guevara.RELATED: 'Critical theory is the framework' used to train teachers: K-12 public schools 'saturated' with CRT mj0007/iStock/Getty Images PlusEthnic studies then offers a utopian vision, promising “liberation” through street activism and the relentless critique and dismantling of societal norms — a process eerily reminiscent of Mao’s Cultural Revolution. This corrosive ideology thrives on destruction, not creation. It fuels resentment and division, teaching children to see themselves and their neighbors as victims or villains in an endless struggle.Future forgedDespite this, we can do better. We need to do better. We must advocate for an education that promotes building and creating, that equips young people with the tools to succeed in a complex world.American youth are hungry for meaningful change, lasting self-confidence, and inspirational leadership. They deserve to be taught what it takes to be successful, what it means to be American, and what it requires. It starts with faith — the belief in things hoped for but not yet seen, like a “more perfect union.” Young people need to trust that their future, and the future of this nation, can be shaped through their efforts. They should be encouraged to dream boldly and believe in their potential to achieve greatness — but to be humble enough to admit their mistakes. There needs to be a renewal of integrity and an emphasis on valuing a person of his word, someone who means what he says and says what he means. This fosters societal trust, which is a hallmark of a thriving culture. The sacrifices made today — whether time, comfort, or ease — pave the way for the outcomes we seek tomorrow.Additionally, high societal trust requires taking on great responsibility. We need to help the youth understand that there is fulfillment in taking ownership over their own actions and the consequences that follow. As much has been given, much is required in return.Prioritizing effort is also essential. A commitment to hard work and quality repetition forges habits and automaticity, and this leads to competence. Moreover, making the little things matter can be the difference between success and failure. Finally, we must assist the youth in learning that making proper sacrifices is crucial to stable, long-term successes. The sacrifices made today — whether time, comfort, or ease — pave the way for the outcomes we seek tomorrow. Success is a byproduct of the right sacrifices at the right time.Republic renewedTwo and a half centuries ago, the founders put everything they had on the line to establish this republic. It is now upon us and our children to keep it.By teaching faith, integrity, responsibility, effort, and sacrifice, we empower American youth to make today better than yesterday — and to shape a future that honors the sacrifices of those who came before us.America’s children deserve a vision that uplifts, not one that tears down.Let’s give them the tools to build a nation that, while scarred, remains a beacon of hope and opportunity for all — a renewed and reinvigorated “shining city upon a hill.”
