Charley Crockett Performs “Spade” On The Netflix Hit Show ‘Ransom Canyon’
Charley Crockett is on a TV screen near you.
The “Lonesome Drifter” singer is no stranger to the late-night show stage, but most recently, he’s changing his tune, hitting the stage for a performance on the “next Yellowstone.”
Some of you might have already tuned in to Netflix’s new series, Ransom Canyon, which draws many similarities to Taylor Sheridan’s hit series Yellowstone. I’m not saying these two shows have the same plot lines, as Ransom Canyon features “three ranching families set against the sweeping tundras and rolling rivers of Texas hill country,” according to IMDb’s synopsis.
It’s a little bit of Yellowstone combined with the family romance and modern-day Texas ranching you see on Landman. I’m also not saying that Ransom Canyon copied Taylor Sheridan’s show (since it is actually based on a book), but media trends can’t be ignored, and cowboy-inspired shows are what’s selling. So, you can’t blame Netflix for wanting a piece of the pie…
While my content plate has been overflowing, and I haven’t gotten into the meat and potatoes of the show yet, I can already tell that one part Netflix nailed with this show is the musical features. A big reason Yellowstone was so successful was the music selections featured on the show, which often showcased lesser-known talents and shone a light on up-and-coming country music stars.
While Ransom Canyon is expanding beyond country music and showcasing artists from a wide variety of genres, the country features they have included in the show thus far are top-notch, featuring artists like Charles Wesley Godwin and Sierra Ferrell, as well as Chris Stapleton and the Red Clay Strays. And most recently, they brought a Texas legend to the big screen.
Charley Crockett made his acting debut, if you want to consider it that, as he portrayed himself performing “Spade” on the show. “Spade” is featured on the Grammy-nominated record $10 Cowboy, and I am living for this song selection.

If you’re looking to watch the show to see Crockett’s performance, it takes place during the third episode, so you don’t have to watch a ton of the series before stumbling upon “Spade.” However, from the two episodes I’ve watched of the series thus far, it’s pretty entertaining, and I plan to stay tuned.
Charley Crockett deserves all of these accolades. The Texas native is one of the hardest-working men in the business, having recently released his 16th record, Lonesome Drifter. Crockett has also always done things his way, having released 14 of his records independently.
Charley Crockett is the real deal. Fire up the entire song of “Spade” before you go.
