Gwen Stefani Says Having Faith In God Is The Best Advice She’s Ever Received About Love: “Make Sure You Have A Third Party”
Gwen Stefani is opening up about what makes a successful marriage.
The Gwen Stefani fans upset about her praising Jonathan Roumie with Tucker Carlson regarding Christianity are going to come unglued again with this one. And before we get into the meat of this interview with Stefani, I don’t want to hear that we’re making this headline “clickbait” because we’re using her quote here, folks… straight from the horse’s mouth.
Gwen Stefani recently appeared on The Drew Barrymore Show, where they discussed all things love and relationships. At one point in the interview, Barrymore asked Stefani what the best advice she had ever received about love was.
“Um, best advice would probably be, um, make sure you have a third party. Yeah.”
But before you get your mind in the gutter, she did not mean it in the way a dirty mind might think. As she finished her sentence, she took her pointer finger and pointed upward to the sky, indicating that she meant you need to have God in your life to anchor the relationship.
While some fans left comments on the video, noting how they love seeing Gwen lean into her faith:
“I love Gwen’s spiritual journey! So nice to see her embrace her faith.”
“Amazing advice, to have God/Christ as a third party in your marriage. Right on, Gwen!”
However, some other social media users also reacted to the New York Post’s coverage of this interview clip, criticizing her for using the term “third party.” Others’ responses made it very obvious that they hadn’t read the information or watched the interview clip, assuming she meant a third person in the marriage. No threesomes here, folks!
“This is why we can’t watch the news anymore. The “third party” is God. They have God in the center of their marriage. Why don’t you just say that?”
“Uh, no, that’s not a marriage.”
“Time to get rid of her.”
“Gross, another broken person acting like it’s healthy.”
“They’re trying to set her up. She was talking about her religion.”
“Isn’t she Catholic? Adultery is a sin.”
“That’s a bad idea, right?”
This is a perfect lesson of reading an article before reacting to it…
It’s clear that since marrying Blake Shelton in 2021, she has become stronger in her Christian faith. Her praising Jonathan Roumie and Tucker Carlson on social media is a perfect example of how she is not hiding her faith from fans.

However, given that Stefani was seen as progressive early in her career, fans feel like Blake Shelton has “brainwashed” her and now hate on her for being a Christian. Some fans also accuse her of being a Trump supporter, although Stefani has not claimed who she supports politically and are lumping her views with those of Blake Shelton’s assumed viewers.
Fans also freaked out recently when Sefani shared an image of her and Shelton fishing together.

God forbid a woman spend time with her husband doing something he loves…
I think it’s crazy that because Stefani is publicly talking about her faith, folks assume she aligns with a particular political party. I have friends who are Christians and members of both political parties. Regardless, I think that this is decent advice. Clearly, what Stefani and Blake have is a good thing going, and they have blended their families and lives together well since becoming a united front. So, can we just celebrate that these two found someone who complements them?
Of course, this isn’t the first time Gwen has been vocal about her faith. She partnered with Hallow, a Catholic prayer app, she’s said prayer helps her slow down and stay grounded and amid her busy schedule, and Blake Shelton has even credited her with helping him grow in his own faith, and even attend church regularly again.
However, I will admit that saying “third party” was an interesting word choice on Stefani’s part. I am sure she was doing so to include multiple religions, noting that a higher power and faith should be involved in a strong relationship. However, “being rooted in faith” or “walking together in your spirituality” would have been better word choices, as they would not have alluded to a physical third party.
