Airman Can’t Stop The Tears From Falling As Mom Tells Her How Proud She Is
“Tapping out” is part of the graduation ceremony for Airmen when they complete Air Force Basic Training. Known as boot camp, basic training is the first step when a recruit joins the military. The graduating recruits must stand at attention until family or close friends tap their shoulders or wrap them in a hug. It can be a very emotional experience for Airmen and their families. This is a three-tissue video, so load up.

When Airman Kayla Coke finished Air Force recruit training, her mom had the honor of tapping her out. Before giving the tap, Kayla’s mom had a few inspiring words to say. The rules of tapping out meant that Kayla had to stand at attention, emotionless, until getting the tap. That was a Herculean task, as her mom spoke of the pride she had for her daughter.
“I’m proud of you. I’m proud of who you’ve become.” As mom continued, unable to hold back her tears of pride, Kayla stood still, staring straight ahead. Although the Airman did a great job not showing facial expressions, she could not stop her tears from flowing. “You made me proud; you made yourself proud; you made your family proud. You are everything that a mother could ever ask for.”

There were tears and gasping sobs from Kayla’s mom as she praised her daughter. She finished, saying, “I love you so much, Airman Coke,” right before tapping Kayla out. As soon as the tap was made, Kayla dived out of frame to embrace her mom. Once the tap is done, the Airman can finally show all the emotion she has been fighting to contain.
Please share this mom’s proud moment with her future Air Force hero.
