Here’s Your Chance To See The Northern Lights Back-To-Back Nights
If you’re looking for something to do the next couple of evenings, Mother Nature has a live performance scheduled. Sadly, her show isn’t for everyone. But if you’re in the northern United States and Alaska, you might have a perfect seat for the aurora borealis. On June 30 and July 1, the northern lights will be visible on back-to-back nights, and some states might have a clear view of both nights.
According to the National Oceanic And Atmospheric Association, the northern lights will be visible in parts of Washington, Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Alaska on June 30. The following night, folks in parts of Washington, Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine might be able to see the show.
Never thought I'd see the Northern Lights from Minneapolis! Last night was truly magical. Seeing this natural wonder against the city skyline was an unforgettable experience. #NorthernLights #Minneapolis #NatureWonder pic.twitter.com/wmGZU7MTck— robsonluiz30 (@robsonluiz30) June 30, 2025
Seeing The Northern Lights on Back-To-Back Is Special
Bunker Hill Media offers tips on how to capture the aurora borealis with your cellphone camera. If you’re lucky enough to see the northern lights back-to-back, you’ve got double the shot at getting a great pic. They suggest setting your ISO between 800 and 1600, depending on the northern lights’ brightness. The next tip is setting the shutter speed between 10 and 20 seconds. The longer exposure allows the camera to capture more light. Bunker Hill Media then suggests setting the focus to infinity or manually focusing it on a distant star or light.
“Capturing the northern lights can be a magical and rewarding experience, whether you’re using a high-end DSLR or your trusty smartphone. The key is understanding the right settings and techniques to make the most of the equipment you have. With the current solar maximum promising exceptional auroras in 2024, this is the perfect time to plan your northern lights photography adventure. Remember to stay patient, experiment with your settings, and—most importantly—enjoy the breathtaking show above,” Bunker Hill Media shares.
If you have a chance to see the back-to-back northern lights show, try to get out of the city to a place with less pollution and obstruction. Then sit back and enjoy the show.
