Here’s what CBS News wants you to beLIEve: What started as a fringe movement among President Trump’s supporters, confined to the shadier corners of the internet, has taken a mainstream turn. The QAnon conspiracy theory started on 4chan, the bulletin board known for creating and spreading memes, but has moved to larger social media platforms. Facebook has taken action against QAnon groups and pages, while Twitter removed several thousand QAnon-linked accounts in 2020. The FBI has warned that fringe conspiracy theories like QAnon pose a growing domestic terrorism threat. What is the QAnon conspiracy theory? What do its followers believe? Those questions have become more difficult to answer as the movement has expanded since its inception in 2017. The story of Q QAnon purports that America is run by a cabal of pedophiles and Satan-worshippers who run a global child sex-trafficking operation and that President Trump is the only person who can stop them. The information supposedly comes from a high-ranking government official who posts cryptic clues on 4chan and the even more unfettered site 8chan under the name “Q.” That’s the central gist of the theory. The rest is open to some degree of interpretation, which is necessary because Q’s posts tend to read like riddles. But YouTube videos created by QAnon believers help fill in the gaps and create a storyline that’s more-or-less comprehensible. QAnon exists as a kind of parallel history, in which a “deep state” took over decades ago. An all-encompassing theory of the world, it appears to tie together and explain everything from “Pizzagate” to ISIS to the prevalence of mass shootings and the JFK assassination. It claims the military, supposedly eager to see the deep state overthrown, recruited President Trump to run for president. But the deep state, which controls the media, quickly tried to smear him through “fake news” and unfounded allegations of collusion with Russia. It goes on to insist that despite the deep state’s best efforts, however, President Trump is winning, and that Q is releasing sanctioned leaks to the public in order to galvanize them ahead of “The Storm,” which is the moment when the deep state’s leaders are arrested and sent to Guantanamo Bay. QAnon believers have called this process “The Great Awakening.” Enter “the storm” The storm takes its name from President Trump’s enigmatic comment from October 2018 about “the calm before the storm.” Q began posting soon after and said that the storm Mr. Trump referenced is a coming series of mass arrests that would end the deep state forever. In QAnon lore, President Trump was secretly working with special counsel Robert Mueller to bring the deep state down, and the storm is a kind of Judgment Day in which the evildoers are punished and the faithful are redeemed. Q has repeatedly suggested that the storm would hit in the very near future and has even said certain people would be arrested at certain dates. When those dates come and go without any arrests, Q says that they needed to be delayed for one reason or another, but that President Trump still has the situation well in hand. Bakers and breadcrumbs Q’s posts tend to be either vague or totally incomprehensible, but QAnon believers are more than happy to try and decipher them. Last year, for example, Q posted a photo of an unnamed island chain. Eager to divine the reasoning behind the post, QAnon adherents tried to “prove” that the photo must have been taken on Air Force One and thus that Q was traveling with the president. The Q posts are known to the faithful as “breadcrumbs.” The people who then try to figure out what they mean are called “bakers.” According to The Daily Beast’s Will Sommer, QAnon believers also spend a lot of time trying to figure out who in the government is a “white hat” Trump supporter and who is a “black hat” in league with the deep state. Their rallying cry is “where we go one, we go all,” a line from the 1996 Jeff Bridges sailing adventure “White Squall” that they misattribute to President Kennedy. The phrase is frequently abbreviated to “WWG1WGA,” which Roseanne Barr — one of several celebrity QAnon supporters — tweeted in June 2018. Former Red Sox pitcher and current right-wing radio host Curt Schilling has also promoted QAnon online. Q’s identity The name refers to Q-level clearance at the Energy Department. But who’s behind the posts is anybody’s guess. According to Sommer, the QAnon faithful sometimes point to former national security adviser Michael Flynn and White House aide Dan Scavino as possibilities. Others believe it’s Mr. Trump himself. Another theory is that John F. Kennedy Jr. faked his death and now posts on 8chan as QAnon. On November 3, Election Day, 8chan (now 8kun) administrator Ron Watkins resigned from his post. Q did not post for the next week, raising questions about a connection. And the NBC News propaganda: In November 2017, a small-time YouTube video creator and two moderators of the 4chan website, one of the most extreme message boards on the internet, banded together and plucked out of obscurity an anonymous and cryptic post from the many conspiracy theories that populated the website’s message board. Over the next several months, they would create videos, a Reddit community, a business and an entire mythology based off the 4chan posts of “Q,” the pseudonym of a person claiming to be a high-ranking military officer. The theory they espoused would become Qanon, and it would eventually make its way from those message boards to national media stories and the rallies of President Donald Trump. Now, the people behind that effort are at the center of a fractious debate among conspiracy enthusiasts, some of whom believe the three people who first popularized the Qanon theory are promoting it in order to make a living. Others suggest that these original followers actually wrote Q’s mysterious posts. While the identity of the original author or authors behind “Q” is still unknown, the history of the conspiracy theory’s spread is well-documented — through YouTube videos, social media posts, Reddit archives, and public records reviewed by NBC News. NBC News has found that the theory can be traced back to three people who sparked some of the first conversation about Qanon and, in doing so, attracted followers who they then asked to help fund Qanon “research.” Qanon is a convoluted conspiracy theory with no apparent foundation in reality. When the clues appear, believers dissect the riddle-like posts alongside Trump’s speeches and tweets and news articles in an effort to validate the main narrative that Trump is winning a war against evil. There are now dozens of commentators who dissect “Q” posts — on message boards, in YouTube videos and on their personal pages — but the theory was first championed by a handful of people who worked together to stir discussion of the “Q” posts, eventually pushing the theory on to bigger platforms and gaining followers — a strategy that proved to be the key to Qanon’s spread and the originators’ financial gain. The anons Before Q, there was a wide variety of “anon” 4chan posters all claiming to have special government access. In 2016, there was FBIAnon, a self-described “high-level analyst and strategist” offering intel about the 2016 investigation into the Clinton Foundation. Then came HLIAnon, an acronym for High Level Insider, who posted about various dubious conspiracies in riddles, including one that claimed Princess Diana had been killed because she found out about 9/11 “beforehand” and had “tried to stop it.” Then “CIAAnon” and “CIA Intern” took to the boards in early 2017, and last August one called WH Insider Anon offered a supposed preview that something that was “going to go down” regarding the DNC and leaks. Qanon was just another unremarkable part of the “anon” genre until November 2017, when two moderators of the 4chan board where Q posted predictions, who went by the usernames Pamphlet Anon and BaruchtheScribe, reached out to Tracy Diaz, according to Diaz’s blogs and YouTube videos. BaruchtheScribe, in reality a self-identified web programmer from South Africa named Paul Furber, confirmed that account to NBC News. “A bunch of us decided that the message needed to go wider so we contacted Youtubers who had been commenting on the Q drops,” Furber said in an email. Diaz, a small-time YouTube star who once hosted a talk show on the fringe right-wing network Liberty Movement Radio, had found moderate popularity with a couple of thousand views for her YouTube videos analyzing WikiLeaks releases and discussing the “pizzagate” conspiracy, a baseless theory that alleged a child sex ring was being run out of a Washington pizza shop. As Diaz tells it in a blog post detailing her role in the early days of Qanon, she banded together with the two moderators. Their goal, according to Diaz, was to build a following for Qanon — which would mean bigger followings for them as well. On Nov. 3, 2017, just six days after the first 4chan post from “Q,” Diaz posted a video entitled “/POL/- Q Clearance Anon – Is it #happening???” in which she introduced the conspiracy theory to her audience. “I do not typically do videos like this,” she said, but citing Q’s “very specific and kind of eerie” posts, Diaz explained that she would be covering the 4chan posts, “just in case this stuff turns out to be legit because honestly it kind of seems legit.” SAVED FROM YOUTUBE: Q and The Plan To Save The World Friends…I thought it was a good time to remind you of this. In a sign that things are deteriorating rapidly within the Kamala-Walz campaign as their prospects for winning the 2024 election evaporate, desperation is proving to be the hallmark of the day. Kamala Harris is flat out claiming that President Trump is going to round people up who disagree with him — those who “won’t support him” or “bend to his will” —  and put them in camps. On the heels of multiple assassination attempts against President Trump (so many that I can’t keep track!), you would think that sort of rhetoric wouldn’t be tolerated anymore.  But as I said, desperation is the reigning emotion in the Kamala camp (pun completely intended), and that makes the democrats reckless, and dangerous. But that is what just happened.  Kamala Harris just added to her super-rehearsed speech, almost overnight.  That may be a scary sign.  Something has changed.  Here’s Fox News with a report on the shift in language coming out of the Kamala camp and the democratic party in general. Democrats on television have continued their heated rhetoric against former President Donald Trump despite multiple attempts on his life, and pundits twice compared him to murderous dictator Adolf Hitler in the last week. In an interview on “CNN News Central,” Democratic strategist Aisha Mills was asked to respond to a comment made earlier in the day by Trump, who remarked that the U.S. has “a lot of bad genes in our country right now” during a discussion about illegal immigrants who were committing murders. Mills began by claiming that Trump “revered the Nazis… revered Hitler.” “Donald Trump has had a very sinister philosophy, wanting to be a dictator, absolutely dividing people up based on who they are, based on factors about them that have to do with their race and their gender, etc.,” she continued. “And when he uses language like this, I don’t think that it’s a Freudian slip. I think that the danger of a Donald Trump is that he would absolutely try to exterminate an entire group of people because he thinks that their genes are somehow different than his and faulty,” Mills said. “And I say this with all the sternness that you hear in my voice because it is serious. And Americans should recognize that.” On Sunday, prominent Democratic strategist James Carville compared Trump’s plans to hold a rally at Madison Square Garden in New York City to a Nazi sympathizer who held a rally there almost 100 years ago. That’s a lot of Nazi and Hitler comparisons to suddenly be thrown back into the mix of rhetoric and impassioned campaign speeches.  It’s too much to disregard as simply coincidental coordination.  Not… that was old fashioned coordination — the kind that has nothing “coincidental” about it. The vice president warned Monday that the ex-president was “unstable,” “unhinged” and out for “unchecked power” as she sent a jolt of urgency though her campaign with 21 days to go. “Watch his rallies. Listen to his words. He tells us who he is, and he tells us what he would do if he is elected president,” Harris told a large crowd in Pennsylvania after a weekend when Trump’s authoritarian rhetoric reached chilling new levels and hinted at the extreme nature of his potential second term. Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Walz, meanwhile, went even further, suggesting the ex-president’s musings about using the military against domestic foes he branded “the enemy from within” could even amount to treason. In a new section of her stump speech, Harris played a tape for her rowdy crowd in Erie featuring Trump’s comment on Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures” that he could turn the National Guard or regular military on “the enemy from within.” “You heard his words,” Harris said. “He’s talking about the enemy within Pennsylvania … he considers anyone who doesn’t support him or who will not bend to his will an enemy of our country.” The vice president added: “Donald Trump is increasingly unstable and unhinged, and he is out for unchecked power.” Just before Harris spoke, her running mate unveiled the Democratic ticket’s most explicit assessment yet of Trump’s potential threat to basic political freedoms if he wins a second term. Walz, the Minnesota governor, said the idea a president could use troops against Americans made him “sick to my stomach.” And the Army National Guard veteran highlighted a comment by the former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley that Trump was a “fascist to his core,” which was reported in Bob Woodward’s new book “War.” Walz added: “Let that sink in, and don’t be a damn bit afraid of saying it, because that’s exactly who he is. This is yet another blatant hoax. And it is a particularly dangerous one to spread against a former president who has already faced two assassination attempts, based in part on lies he is a “threat to democracy.” The hoax relies in part on dropped context for the key quote and the target audience being unlikely to navigate shifting contexts to a separate but related quote. Walz recently said on the campaign trail that Trump wants to “use the U.S. Army against people who disagree with him.” “Just so you’re clear about that, that’s you. That’s what he’s talking about. This is not a mythical thing.” It is a “mythical thing.” It is a mythical thing, as will be shown. Kamala Harris fared no better. She ramped up the hyperbolic rhetoric to an eleven while on the campaign trail. “You heard his words, coming from him. He’s talking about the enemy within … he’s talking about that he considers anyone that doesn’t support him, or who will not bend to his will, an enemy of our country,” she said. She added, “He’s saying he would use the military to go after them … and we know who he would target, because he has attacked them before: Journalists whose stories who he doesn’t like, election officials who refuse to cheat by finding extra votes for him, judges who insist on following the law instead of bending to his will. This is among the reasons I believe so strongly that a second Trump term would be a huge risk for America, and dangerous.” As reported by CNN, Harris’ campaign will release a new ad, dubbed “Enemy Within,” featuring Trump saying the phrase “the enemy from within” on the campaign trail. But this is yet another big lie that drops critical context. In Donald Trump’s interview with Maria Bartiromo on Sunday Morning Futures, the former president gave multiple soundbites on “the enemies within.” In one clip, Trump talks in general about radical Democrats like Adam Schiff, who spread a debunked Russia hoax about the president that damaged the country. In another clip, Trump talks about radical agitators in the context of election security. “I think the bigger problem is the enemy from within, not even the people who have come in, destroying our country — and by the way, totally destroying our country, the towns, the villages, they’re being inundated…” “But I don’t think they’re the problem in terms of Election Day, I think the bigger problem are the people from within, we have some very bad people, we have some sick people, radical left lunatics.” “And it should be very easily handled by, if necessary, by National Guard, or if really necessary, the military.” There you have it. The former president is clearly talking about Election Day security, such as if the left wanted to stage its own January 6 “insurrection” against a Trump victory. Donald Trump makes clear the National Guard and the military would be used “if necessary,” in other words, in the event of a threat to national security. The Enemies Within Hoax is yet another ploy from a desperate and failing Harris-Walz campaign. We must push back.  You must push back.  What they are pushing this country towards is a disaster of unimaginable proportions.  Even if we were to make it through, and even if there came a chance to “rebuild” — the carnage and suffering that will be ushered in if they are allowed to sow their discord without resistance… will make every history text book we’ve ever read seem mundane, as the full-color version of hell presents itself to an America that is severely unprepared for such an event. We must push back, now.  And we must do so with the truth.  There is a reason President Trump is constantly on X and TruthSocial,  pushing back against the false narratives.  Is he afraid to use “a big stick” if it came to it?  No, I don’t think so.  But I believe the man understands that it is far better to push the illegitimate accusations back day after day after day, verbally… than it is to actually have to swing that “big stick” of force, if it came to it. We can not let the democratic party push this country to a point where all we have left… is a battle of wills, and sticks.  And so we must engage.  And we must do so again tomorrow, and again the day after that.  We must not weary in doing what is right! In the middle of a Town Hall event in Pennsylvania, someone fainted.  President Trump had been right in the middle of a question and answer session when suddenly, paramedics stole the show.  But, did they really? As it turns out, Trump stopped everything while several people tried to comfort the man.  And according to the Washington Post, after a round of “God Bless America”, another man fainted. The evening began to take a different trajectory when a man appeared to faint in the crowd. Trump paused his remarks. Attendees fanned the man and began to sing “God Bless America.” As the man waited for medical help, Trump mused: “While we’re waiting. So we had a beautiful evening. And I don’t know if they could get this song up quickly, but if they could work really quickly backstage while we’re waiting. ‘Ave Maria.’” The song began to play. Trump then resumed. Minutes later, another attendee needed medical attention. Trump stopped again. “Take your time, doctor,” he said, and “Ave Maria” began to play again. Trump then quipped to the crowd: “Would anybody else like to faint? Please raise your hand. Let’s do it now.” Trump is just hanging out his at the Town Hall listening to music with his supporters. Kristi Noem was in the middle of making a “Y”, dancing to the Village People’s “YMCA”, when President Trump told her, “No one’s leaving.” Noem put her hands up in the shape of a “Y.” As the song was ending, Trump mouthed the words, “Nobody’s leaving.” “Nobody’s leaving. What’s going on? There’s nobody leaving. Keep going,” he said, as Rufus Wainwright’s version of “Hallelujah” played next. “All right, turn that music up! Turn that up. Great song!” Then it was “Nothing Compares 2 U” by Sinéad O’Connor. “An American Trilogy” by Elvis Presley. “Rich Men North of Richmond” by Oliver Anthony. Trump stood and swayed. During the Friday segment, Fox News anchor John Roberts played a clip of ABC’s Michael Strahan asking Walz what he would say to people who don’t trust the Minnesota governor given his past misstatements. Walz replied, “I know that things get spun in a political environment. But I think what they see is, if they want to compare that talking about immigration policy or seeing the things Donald Trump would say, I think there’s a big difference than missing a date when you’re there, and again spinning something for political reasons.” After the clip, Roberts mocked the Minnesota governor for being a self-described “knucklehead.” But instead of joining him, Rove offered a better answer to the question—and a defense of Walz. “If just he simply said, ‘Look, I’ve misspoken and I apologize for it. I understand—I have been informed by my experiences, but yes, I have mangled dates and put myself in places I wasn’t, but it was unintentional and I wasn’t trying to mislead. Scott Adams shared this to X.com last night, presumably in response to the upcoming Kamala Harris interview with Brett Baier, and not necessarily in reaction to the rumors about Rove campaigning for Kamala.  Though I do find the connection intriguing. Nevertheless… it seems as though for all the viral potency of the rumor, Karl Rove does not appear to be campaigning for Kamala Harris.  To borrow a quote from the CIA, “I can neither confirm, nor deny” that as fact, but I can reasonably tell you based on a complete lack of information in the media — I find it highly unlikely that Rove is actually on the Kamala campaign trail. That said… I never realized until now just how hardcore anti-Trump Karl Rove really is, nor did I understand how willing he has been to hand out excuses to the likes of Tim Walz. I’m going to call it — Karl Rove is off the hook for the time being as far as the rumors are concerned.  He is not campaigning for Kamala Harris.  But in terms of being an establishment RINO willing to play ball with the Democrats?  Karl Rove is firmly on that hook, as far as I’m concerned.

A New York appeals panel has reportedly signaled its skepticism towards a $500 million fraud conviction brought against former President Donald Trump earlier this year. New York Attorney General Letitia James successfully brought civil fraud charges against President Trump earlier this year, securing a $354 million judgment against the latter plus an additional $100 million in interest. Now, a New York appeals panel seems doubtful that Trump’s conviction is legally sound. Judge Peter Moulton reportedly questioned if James’ lawsuit morphed into “something it was not meant to do.” Specifically, Moulton remarked the nearly $500 million requested of Trump is an “immense penalty” that “is troubling.” Trump lawyers have consistently held the charges and subsequent conviction are unjustifiable and often criticized by AG James and trial judge Arthur Engoron during the civil trial. Amazingly, it finally seems as though the lawfare against President Trump, at least in this case, may be nearing an end!  Does this signal a change in the weather, so to speak, in those bringing case after case against President Trump? The possibility of Ms. James mounting a bid for City Hall comes amidst a blizzard of crises for Mr. Adams and his administration, which has been afflicted with mounting attrition. The mayor has been charged with federal bribery and campaign finance offenses. The precariousness of the Adams administration has started a game of chess involving a Who’s Who of New York’s power players, who, as is typical of the Big Apple, all seem to hate each other. Bad blood flows freely among Ms. James, Governor Cuomo, Trump, and Governor Hochul. Ms. James, who campaigned for attorney general on a promise to go after Trump, could reckon that now is her time after a year in which she secured, if it stands up on appeal, a triumph in court that could bring the business empire of Trump, who has called her “corrupt” among many other imprecations, to its knees. I have a feeling she may not be considering a run for the Mayor’s office as much as she might have been a week ago.  The ONLY thing she could have argued in her favor “was” that she had clinched a high-profile conviction against President Trump… as she set out to do. Sorry, Letitia — it doesn’t look like that conviction is going to stay in the “win” column of your resume for much longer.  But I do suppose it will stay on your resume, for a long… long time.  Just, not in the “win” column. And depending on whether the 5-Judge panel decides to come after you and your lawyers for wasting their time, making a mockery out of the justice system, and wasting untold piles of tax dollars chasing your unjust dream of a Trump conviction… there may not BE a “win” column to speak of on your resume much longer.
