Few voices invited to appear on CNN offer any support for the decisions of President Donald Trump or his administration. One notable exception, however, is Scott Jennings, a Republican who frequently serves as a panelist on the left-leaning cable news network. He recently engaged in an on-air debate regarding the White House’s decision to eject the Associated Press from the Oval Office due to its insistence on referring to the Gulf of America by its former name despite its official change. As the Daily Caller reported: CNN host Abby Phillip jumped to the AP’s defense, stating that the outlet should be allowed to continue calling the body of water the Gulf of Mexico. Jennings then questioned whether the AP is participating in political activism over journalism for refusing to call the gulf by its new proper name. “Why would I respect a news organization that doesn’t live in reality?” Jennings pushed back, receiving pushback from the other panelists. “Donald Trump picked a fight with the news organization,” Phillip claimed. “The news organization can do whatever they want, if they want to call it the Gulf of South America, they can call it that. But Scott, they can call it whatever they want because there’s free speech in this country, wouldn’t you agree?” “Yes, but that, in my opinion if you’re not willing to call something by the proper name based on the laws of the United States, that calls into question your judgement and are you a news organization?” Jennings replied. In its influential Stylebook, the AP said it would continue to use Gulf of Mexico, while also noting Trump’s decision, to ensure that names of geographical features are recognizable around the world. The White House’s outright attempt at regulating language used by independent media — and the punitive measures attached to it — mark a sharp escalation in Trump’s often fraught dealings with news organizations. Chris Cuomo, a former CNN anchor whose brother is the disgraced former Democratic governor of New York, took aim at the party for its shortsighted and unpopular stance on immigration. According to the Daily Caller: “And you’re going to have to give. But the idea that you can lose on immigration by giving the Republicans what they want, I don’t think exists in our majority population anymore,” Cuomo added. “I think if you want the majority of this country with you, you need to reform immigration and chain migration, or family reunification, and how it’s done and getting rid of catch and release.” “The idea that people entering this country illegally are not the same as other criminals — they’re never going to just be thrown in jail. There are always going to have to be accommodations,” he said. “But you should be on the side of fixing it. Inaction is no longer a substitute for proper action or right action as Democrats see it. You got to be part of the solution ’cause it’s going to happen anyway.” Trump’s mass deportation agenda has majority support from voters, including 86% of Republicans, 58% of independents and 25% of Democrats, according to a September Scripps News/Ipsos poll. “And if it’s on amnesty? Shame on the Democrats. As the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reported about a recent Marquette University poll: Immigration appears to be an area of political strength for Trump, though even in that case there are mixed signals. For example, 59% of voters nationally support his declaration of an emergency on the national border. And asked if they favor deporting immigrants who are in the U.S. illegally back to their home countries, 60% say they favor it. But when asked if they support deporting undocumented immigrants “even if they have lived here for a number of years, have jobs and no criminal record,” then support drops to 43%. The recalled 90-quart Igloo Flip & Tow rolling coolers carry possible “fingertip amputation and crushing hazards” because their handles “can pinch consumers’ fingertips against the cooler,” a recall notice published Thursday by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) said. In the notice, Igloo advised customers against using the affected coolers any further until they can get a new handle from the company. The recalled Igloo coolers were “sold in multiple body and lid color combinations,” according to the CSPC. The company produced all of them before January of last year. Igloo included all the model numbers and date codes for the affected Flip & Tow Coolers in the CPSC recall notice. Both the manufacturing year and the model number are on the bottom of the coolers, with the former imprinted on the cooler itself and the latter appearing on a label, it said. Flip & Tow Rolling Coolers” have a tow handle that can pinch users’ fingertips against the product — posing potential amputation and other crushing risks, according to a Thursday recall notice from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. Igloo has received 12 injury reports in the U.S., the CPSC notes, which include fingertip amputations, bone fractures, and lacerations.

Pope Francis has been hospitalized in Rome. The pope is being treated at a hospital in Rome for bronchitis. In a statement, The Vatican shared, “This morning, at the end of the audience, Pope Francis will be admitted to the Agostino Gemelli Polyclinic for some necessary diagnostic tests and to continue in a hospital setting treatment for bronchitis that is still ongoing.” In recent months, the 88-year-old pope has suffered a string of ailments, including being bound to a wheelchair after falling.
