Scientists Make Stunning Breakthrough, Turning Banana Peels into Textiles and Renewable Fuels

Off-grid communities in parts of rural Pakistan could soon have access to a reliable source of electricity for the first time thanks to a new project that aims to convert waste from the banana-growing industry into energy. 80 million metric tons of agricultural waste are generated in Pakistan every year from growing bananas. The Great Debate Part One: Why Cats Are Better Than Dogs

The post The Great Debate Part One: Why Cats Are Better Than Dogs by Dr. Karyn Kanowski BVSc MRCVS (Veterinarian) appeared first on Catster. Copying over entire articles infringes on copyright laws. You may not be aware of it, but all of these articles were assigned, contracted and paid for, so they aren't considered public domain. However, we appreciate that you like the article and would love it if you continued sharing just the first paragraph of an article, then linking out to the rest of the piece on Catster.com. Hi, I’m Dr. Karyn! Read my introduction to learn more about me and meet my five hilarious cats: Clutch, Cyril, Alex, Zelda, and Zazzles. This is an argument that has been going on for as long as people started keeping pets. Pet owners being asked to choose a side, pick a species, identify themselves as either cat or dog people. Although there are many out there in my position, lucky enough to share their lives with both cats and dogs, people who claim not to have a favorite are being as honest as parents who say they don’t have a favorite child – come on! You might assume from the title that I have declared myself a ‘cat person’, but you might want to wait until you’ve read Part Two: Why Dogs Are Better Than Cats before you decide. And no, I’m not going to tell you which I am – spoilers! Instead, I present to you a (relatively) unbiased argument for the affirmative team on why cats are better than dogs. Cats Are Better Than Dogs Because… They are quite self-sufficient and relatively low-maintenance They are practically born toilet-trained They don’t need to be taken out for walks They don’t bark They don’t jump up on your guests They don’t hump your furniture, your leg, your guest’s leg… They can be left alone for long periods of time (even overnight if you have planned and prepared appropriately) Their purring releases endorphins in them and us They are emotionally intelligent They keep themselves clean They have evolved a form of communication (the meow) specifically for humans Kittens are undeniably, unquestionably, adorable Cats are definitely more relaxed companions. Of course, living with cats isn’t all hugs and rainbows, and there are some negatives (or perceived negatives) to life in the company of felinekind. For instance: They can somehow make us feel judged, unwanted, or surplus to requirement They leave hair on EVERYTHING They leave claw marks on clothing, carpets, and furniture They bring us gifts we don’t want (eg. dead – or almost dead – mice, birds, rats etc) They can be aloof – affection is usually on their terms only They sometimes express stress, irritation, territorialism, or dissatisfaction by peeing on things They vomit They are often most active between 12am and 3am It can be challenging to keep indoor cats in, and outdoor cats out They can cause conflict between neighbors if they use their garden as a litter box Ned the Chihuahua vs the Cats. Who Identifies As A Cat Person? I have long believed that even people without pets can be categorized as cat or dog people, though there will always be exceptions and outliers. Broadly speaking, a cat person tends to be someone who: is more introvert than extrovert is wary of strangers doesn’t make friends easily, but makes them for life prefers the comforts of home likes to re-read favorite books and re-watch favorite movies and tv shows is cautious, reflective, and considers things carefully prefers a warm spot in a cool home, rather than central heating will turn on a fan or air-conditioner to be able to stay under a blanket likes (and may even have) dogs, but doesn’t have a close affinity with them prefers yoga, pilates, or meditation over cardio workouts loves cats In our house, we’re a fan of both. Am I a Cat Person or a Dog Person? I would have to say that most, if not all, of the traits above describe me quite well, but with five cats and five dogs, am I so easily categorized? You’ll just have to check out Part Two. This article is a part of Dr. Karyn's series with her five hilarious cats. About That List of ‘Republicans’ Endorsing Kamala Harris

Legacy media outlets have trumpeted the news that “more than 200″ people who used to work for former Presidents George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush, and former Republican presidential nominees John McCain and Mitt Romney, have endorsed Democratic nominee Vice President Kamala Harris in an open letter. But who, exactly, are the 200? Left-leaning media may claim this list represents a tidal wave of Republicans defecting to Harris, but this letter is far less impressive than meets the eye. As it turns out, many of the signatories were interns or apolitical staff, and many of them went on to work for then-President Barack Obama and current President Joe Biden. The Interns The list features eight interns: Chad Adler, a finance intern for Romney 2012; Katie Daryl, a communications department intern for McCain’s Senate office; Anne Dixon, a political intern for the 2008 McCain presidential campaign; Daniel Edwards, an intern in McCain’s Senate office; Danny Mazza, another McCain Senate office intern; Brooks Nelson, an intern from Bush’s USA Freedom Corps; Meghan K. Reilly, a McCain Senate office intern, and Anne Wisniewski, a political intern for McCain’s 2008 campaign. The Bush, McCain, and Romney Alumni for Harris letter, obtained by USA Today (USA Today) The offices of Romney and George W. Bush did not respond to The Daily Signal‘s questions about whether the letter artificially inflated the number of former staff to give a false impression. Apolitical Staff Many of the former Bush 41, Bush 43, McCain, and Romney staffers who signed the letter held apolitical positions that do not necessarily reflect alignment with the Republicans for whom they worked. Many of them stayed on under Democrats because their jobs did not involve partisan affiliation. Letter-signer Daniel Connor held the apolitical position of pilot for presidential helicopter Marine One under George W. Bush. He remained in the role into the Barack Obama administration. Lauren Dorff, who worked as outreach coordinator for the U.S. Agency for International Development’s Center for Faith-Based and Community Partnerships in the Bush administration, stayed in the agency under Obama until August 2009, according to LinkedIn. Eric Eberhard worked on the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs under McCain, but he was later appointed to the Udall Foundation (a federal agency, despite the name) by both Republican and Democratic presidents (Clinton, Bush, and Obama). David Blaszkowsky worked for the Bush administration’s Securities and Exchange Commission, but he stayed with the SEC under the Obama administration for three years before moving to the Obama-era Treasury Department. Are These Republicans? Some signatories either went on to work for Democrats in more political positions or endorsed left-leaning stances on various issues. That raises the question of whether their support for Harris (and opposition to Trump) actually means anything. Obama appointed Bush administration alumnus Felice Gorordo to serve as a White House fellow in 2011-12, where he worked on the rollout of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, which protects from deportation illegal aliens brought to America as minors. The program also provides DACA recipients—dubbed “Dreamers”—with work permits, and according to Biden, more than 800,000 people have qualified for DACA since its inception. Brooks Nelson, a former Bush intern, demonstrated that he doesn’t support the 43rd president’s conservative pro-life stance. He commented on a post announcing a woman starting a new job at abortion giant Planned Parenthood Federation of America with “This makes me so happy!! Congratulations! You’re going to make a huge impact!” Nelson praised a fellow LinkedIn user for a new job at Planned Parenthood. (LinkedIn) Jeffrey Bobeck, who served in Bush’s Department of Energy, now leads a group called Innovators for Democracy that endorsed Biden in 2020 and has now endorsed Harris. (Innovators for Democracy/X) Matthew Filter worked as a McCain legislative assistant from 2009 to 2011, but he jumped ship in 2012, working for two Democrats. First, he worked as a summer policy intern for then-Mayor Michael Bloomberg in New York in 2012 then as a policy extern for then-Mayor Corey Booker in Newark, New Jersey, in 2012-2013. Booker is now a Democratic senator from New Jersey. He also served under Democratic mayors of Durham, North Carolina. MSNBC Hails Harris's 'Clever' Defense Of Fracking Flip-Flop

MSNBC Hails Harris's 'Clever' Defense Of Fracking Flip-Flop

After Vice President Kamala Harris’s Thursday interview with CNN, the cast of MSNBC’s 11th Hour could not defend her against accusations of flip-flopping on issues such as fracking, so instead they decided to portray such reversals as “clever” while wondering if she is the victim of a double standard. Guest host and former Harris spokeswoman Symone Sanders-Townsend teed up a clip of the interview, “Vice President Kamala Harris has been accused—not even accused, like, it is a fact that she said a number of things in 2020, in her 2020 campaign that she has now shifted her stance on, and she responded to a number of those criticisms tonight. Watch this.”     The clip showed Harris telling Dana Bash, “I think the most important and most significant aspect of my policy perspective and decisions is my values have not changed. You mentioned the Green New Deal. I have always believed, and I have worked on, that the climate crisis is real, that it is an urgent matter to which we should apply metrics that include holding ourselves to deadlines around time.” Sanders-Townsend then turned to senior national politics reporter Natasha Korecki and asked, “What do you think the voters will think of that answer, Natasha?” Korecki loved it, “Well, I thought it was, you know, a clever answer, you know, relying on her values, and, you know, the other thing she did, when you watch the rest of her answers, is saying what she ended up doing when she was elected, you know, in terms of fracking.” She added, “You know, what did you do? She cast the tie-breaking vote to allow more fracking leases and she said, 'Look, I ultimately said this is what I was going to do. I kept my word, and I will keep my word again,’ and I thought that was the strongest argument she could put forward right now. With what she's going to do if elected.” Even CNN’s fact-checker, Daniel Dale, was unimpressed by such alleged cleverness. As vice president, Harris supports whatever Joe Biden supports. Citing what she did as vice president does not answer questions on how she would govern as president in her own right. Sanders-Townsend then turned to Reuters White House correspondent Jeff Mason and backtracked on her earlier statement that Harris had flip-flopped, “You know, Jeff, it was interesting because Dana said, ‘Well, is there something that you saw, a policy that made you change?’ and she’s like, she reasserted, yet again, her same answers that, you know, she does not believe banning fracking, you can get the things out without having to ban fracking. So, didn’t give any inches there.” She then shifted to Donald Trump, “I juxtapose that with the fact that, like, just today Donald Trump has now changed his position on IVF, it seems. The platform of the Republican Party apparatus says one thing, yet Donald Trump is now saying another thing on it. He shifts his positions all the time. I think this—there is a contingent here of— because Donald Trump is just, he is playing fast and loose with the truth often. Is this a standard that we are holding one candidate to and not the other? Because Donald shifted today and folks are writing it up as though, as though it is just commonplace.” For his part, Mason claimed politicians on both sides frequently change their positions, so he does not know if there is a double standard. However, there is a double standard, just not the one Sanders-Townsend thinks there is, for MSNBC would never describe Trump’s IVF stance as “clever.” Here is a transcript for the August 29 show: MSNBC The 11th Hour with Stephanie Ruhle 8/29/2024 11:09 PM ET SYMONE SANDERS-TOWNSEND: Let's play one of those exchanges. Vice President Kamala Harris has been accused—not even accused, like, it is a fact that she said a number of things in 2020, in her 2020 campaign that she has now shifted her stance on, and she responded to a number of those criticisms tonight. Watch this. KAMALA HARRIS: I think the most important and most significant aspect of my policy perspective and decisions is my values have not changed. You mentioned the Green New Deal. I have always believed, and I have worked on, that the climate crisis is real, that it is an urgent matter to which we should apply metrics that include holding ourselves to deadlines around time. NATASHA KORECKI: Well, I thought it was, you know, a clever answer, you know, relying on her values, and, you know, the other thing she did, when you watch the rest of her answers, is saying what she ended up doing when she was elected, you know, in terms of fracking.  You know, what did you do? Kibbe: Tim Walz's COVID authoritarianism killed George Floyd

Matt Kibbe and his wife had lived safely and peacefully on Capitol Hill for over 20 years when the COVID-19 pandemic hit. Then everything changed. - YouTube youtu.be YouTube has censored this video by labeling it 18+. Watch it here. Upon the numerous declarations of mayors and governors ordering civilians to quarantine themselves at home, Kibbe “headed straight out to buy thick plywood to board [his] windows and new security bars to reinforce [his] doors.” Obviously such “draconian precautions” would do nothing to keep the virus out, so what was he so afraid of? “Riots, looting, and violence,” he says, which indeed ravaged the country during the early stages of the pandemic. “George Floyd lost his job at Conga Latin Bistro when Governor Tim Walz locked down the Minnesota economy, prohibiting bars and restaurants from serving customers.” — (@) Just a few weeks later, Floyd was killed, and the chaos that would torch cities across the nation began. “Unchecked power can take away your livelihood. Unchecked power can kill,” Kibbe says, making the point that George Floyd’s blood isn’t just on the hands of a cop but also on those of Tim Walz whose shutting down of the economy laid the groundwork for Floyd’s death. It’s been four years, and the government has yet to answer for the egregious crimes it committed in the name of COVID-19. But stagnating the economy is just one of the atrocities it must answer for. There are also the matters of unconstitutional censorship, vaccine coercion, mask mandates, and gain-of-function research that demand answers. Kibbe has been on a mission since the outbreak to expose COVID lies and solve its long list of mysteries. In his docuseries “The Coverup,” he takes you along with him as he meets with some of the true experts who were silenced during the pandemic for their refusal to comply with the approved narrative — people like Dr. Jay Bhattacharya, professor of medicine at Stanford University and an author of the Great Barrington Declaration. He also meets with Senator Rand Paul (R-Ky.), the only senator who’s remained relentless in his pursuit of answers — especially when it comes to COVID’s number-one wolf in sheep’s clothing: Anthony Fauci.
