The guitarist Zakk Wylde first achieved fame back in the late 80s when he became the guitarist of Ozzy Osbourne's band. Since 2022 he's been touring with Pantera, alongside the classic members Rex Brown (Bass), Phil Anselmo (Vocals) and the Anthrax drummer Charlie Benante. In an interview with "Talk Toomey" podcast (Transcribed by Blabbermouth), Wylde talked about the challenge of paying tribute to the late Pantera co-founder and guitarist Dimebag Darrell. He said the musician was in the same league as Eddie Van Halen, Jimi Hendrix and Randy Rhoads. Black Sabbath was formed in Birmingham, England back in 1968 by the guitarist Tony Iommi, bassist Geezer Butler, drummer Bill Ward and vocalist Ozzy Osbourne. In 1970 they released their groundbreaking self-titled debut album that simply created Heavy Metal music, changing the course of Rock and Roll forever. Over the decades, they had the chance to tour around the world and also to help many bands that were starting to reach a new audience. Sabbath had many incredible opening acts but there was one in particular that Tony Iommi said was excellent. The Black Sabbath opening act Tony Iommi said was excellent Back in the late 70s when Black Sabbath already was one of the biggest bands in the world, they had as their opening act a band that had just released their debut record. It was the American group Van Halen, formed in Pasadena, California. The band really impressed Tony Iommi at the time and he recalled that in an interview with Rolling Stone in 2020, saying they were excellent. "They were very good. They were very energetic. You’ve got David Lee Roth there, jumping up in the air and doing somersaults, and God knows what else." "And the way they’d run around the stage, of course, it was the complete opposite to us. We, like, stood there when we went on [laughs]. But they were just a very, very excellent band. You knew then that they were gonna make it. There’s no two ways about it. They just got something that nobody else was doing at that time," Tony Iommi said. That was when his friendship with the late legendary Eddie Van Halen started. They used to hang out together after the shows and even play guitar sometimes. "We all got on very well. Bill (Ward) used to chat with Alex, and I’d be with Eddie. It was always a very close thing with Van Halen," Tony Iommi said. The guitarist also noted that Eddie's playing was really unique and he had a style Iommi had never seen before. He also said that the Dutch guitarist never stopped improving and only got better over the decades, even calling him an inventor. Back in 1994, when Black Sabbath was recording the album "Cross Purposes" Eddie was in England. Iommi invited him to visit the band in the studio. That day he helped them in the composition of the song "Evil Eye". Besides him, the song is also credited to Iommi, Geezer Butler, Tony Martin and Geoff Nicholls. At the time the band had as their drummer the American Bobby Rondinelli. The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals reversed its prior ruling that Arizona residents must show proof of U.S. citizenship to use the state voter registration form. Arizonans who lack proof of U.S. citizenship can again sign up to vote in the presidential and congressional elections. “On August 1, a panel of the Ninth Circuit reversed a previous ruling that MANDATED proof of citizenship for voting in federal elections. The majority of this panel — the one actually assigned to hear the case — concluded the other judges should never have made such a radical change in voting registration rules so soon before the election, saying it would cause chaos. What Thursday’s ruling did was restore an order issued last year by U.S. District Court Judge Susan Bolton who had concluded that federal law specifically allowed people to register to vote in federal elections without the same kind of proof that Arizona requires of those wanting to cast ballots in state or local elections. But it provoked an angry reaction from Senate President Warren Petersen who said it is just another example of “the radical 9th Circuit.’’ “They routinely engage in judicial warfare to carry out their extremist liberal agenda that’s contrary to the laws our citizens elected us to implement,’’ said Petersen, a Gilbert Republican. And he vowed to seek immediate review by the U.S. Supreme Court ahead of the November election. A similar reaction came from Scot Mussi, president of the Arizona Free Enterprise Club which crafted the 2022 law at issue. The order reopens a path for potential voters who just two weeks ago were barred from using the state voter registration form to sign up to vote unless they could produce proof of U.S. citizenship. It comes with two months left before the Oct. 7 registration deadline for the high-stakes presidential election. The order means people can again use the state-issued voter registration form even if they don’t produce proof of citizenship. Instead, they attest under penalty of perjury that they are citizens, and are limited to voting in federal races only. In the first 10 days after the July 18 ruling that required the documentary proof, the Maricopa County Recorder’s Office said it had rejected 200 voter applications. On Thursday, the Arizona Secretary of State’s Office clarified the impact of the ruling. “Election officials may not reject voter registration applications submitted without DPOC, regardless of which form is used,” communications director Aaron Thacker said. DPOC is shorthand for documentary proof of citizenship.
