Only In Florida: Why Did The Gator Cross The Road? To Score A Touchdown, Of Course!

When you live in Florida, seeing gators is a regular occurrence. The pesky carnivores are everywhere, frequently seen on porches and golf courses. Gator calls are so frequent that some law enforcement officers are expert wranglers. Occasionally, a gator will cross a road and need a little assistance with traffic control. @kio98347 Why did the gator cross the road? To score a big td. ♬ University of Florida, Go Gators – EA Sports College Football Marching Band Aside from live gators trying to cross the road, Florida is famous for other Gators, namely the University of Florida Gators football team. That is probably why Giovanni Rodriguez, who posted the video, thought this gator might be trying to score a touchdown. Image from TikTok. If you’re wondering why this gator gets a personal crossing guard to cross a busy roadway, there is a good reason. Alligators are a protected species in Florida. That means they can only be hunted by people with the proper permits. Following US Fish and Wildlife Service guidelines, Florida has instituted an alligator management and control program. Because these animals can pose a risk to people, the state also maintains a Statewide Nuisance Alligator Program (SNAP). If a gator tries to do more than peaceably cross a road, people can notify the Nuisance Alligator Hotline at 866-FWC-GATOR (866-392-4286). This is a handy number to have whether you are a resident or visitor in Florida. Image from Wikimedia Commons. Gators inhabit areas along the Atlantic Coast, from the Florida Keys to parts of North Carolina. Because the temperatures get colder in NC, you can observe gators sleeping while frozen in ice! This modified form of brumation allows the animals to stay alive during infrequent temperature drops. Is this gator crossing the road to score a touchdown? We find it hilarious that traffic is stopped, and he has his own personal crossing guard. You can find the source of this story’s featured image here. Bride’s Future Mother-In-Law Stops At Nothing To Make Bride Part Of The Family

This lucky bride doesn’t just have a mother-in-law — she’s got a second mom! Gurpreet Kaur was getting ready for her big day when her groom’s mother gave her the most touching gift. This woman brought her future daughter-in-law a gorgeous gold bracelet to welcome her into the family. While the jewelry itself was beautiful, the meaning behind it was even more so! Gurpreet and her husband-to-be were from two different cultures. His family is English, while hers is Indian. Obviously, this couple would have distinct expectations for what a wedding is supposed to look like. However, the bride’s mother-in-law was determined to show respect for her new daughter’s cultural background. When she found out that Indian moms typically give their girls gold to celebrate their big day, she decided to participate in this tradition! @itsgups My English Mum #indianbride ♬ margaret – ♱ This bride shared the most heartwarming video of the special moment she shared with her mother-in-law on her wedding day. In the precious clip, Gurpreet was sitting on the couch and doing some skincare when the older woman approached her with the gift. When she realized what was happening, this daughter-in-law began to tear up! It became clear to her that she really was a part of her new husband’s family. “My English Mum,” she wrote affectionately in her caption. In the comments section, Gurpreet shared that her mother-in-law had truly become a surrogate mom to her. “I’m estranged from my family so my MIL really stepped in as my parent,” she wrote. In response to another comment, the bride added, “She truly treats me like her own daughter.” @itsgups Replying to @wondermama1985 MIL at our Jaggo and Maiyaan ♬ Let’s Just Call It Love – Dez Duron Gurpreet shared another wholesome video of her mother-in-law participating in a variety of other traditions during the wedding. There was an especially sweet clip of her dancing at the celebration! Sometimes we’re related to our families by blood, other times by love. We’re so glad that this bride found another mom in her mother-in-law! You can find the source of this story’s featured image here. Beginner’s Guide To Keeping Bees

Ever thought of keeping bees in your homestead? Whether you're a hobby farmer, backyard beekeeper, or a homesteader wanting to begin a small business, it's pretty easy to learn the buzz on bees. Read on and I'll teach you the basics I’ve followed when I was just getting started with beekeeping. Getting Started With Keeping Bees In Your Homestead Keeping bees goes through the popularity with times. And in case you haven't noticed, keeping bees is the “in” thing to do. I still remember how anxious and nervous I was when I started keeping bees. However, as time flew by, it got easier and fun to deal with. Collecting honey has become one of my favorite tasks here in my homestead. And of course, I don't want you to miss anything because keeping bees is truly rewarding. Before getting started, consider reading this whole post to have an insight and a bit of inspiration.   1. Learn All About Bees image via homesteading It is essential that before getting your bees, you study all about them. There are plenty of keeping bees’ books around and getting to know these sweet insects can provide vital help to get started with your hives. Read and study as much as your time allows and once your bees arrive, you'll be up and ready to keep your bees.   2. Understand How Bees Make Honey image via statesymbolsusa Since honey is the main produce of bees, it is important you understand how bees make honey so you’ll be able to provide them the exact nourishment they need to produce only the best honey. Knowing exactly how a beehive works and what the bees do is essential. Bees create nests in nature, travel to blooms and draw nectars. They then take the nectar to the hive and comb where it gradually becomes honey.   These tips will make laundry day in your homestead more effective this cold season. Check out our line drying tips! https://t.co/s4DnlfbZ9t — Homesteading (@HomesteadingUSA) December 29, 2016   3. Associate With Your Local Beekeeping Organizations | In beekeeping, a couple of subtle elements can be particular to your area. The nature of keeping bees implies that you'll be successful if you have a solid local resource to draw on — somebody who can come to check your hive or help you with everything. Connect and locate your local beekeeping associations. Attend gatherings. There are few associations who offer mentors, who can be priceless in helping you in your first season.   4. Set Up Your Beehive image via thisiscolossal Learn how to set up your beehive. In keeping bees, you'll require a beehive. In nature, bees create their own hive, normally in an empty tree trunk or other protected areas, yet it can be anywhere. For a backyard beekeeper, like me, you'll need to create a man-made hive in order for you to help your bees maintain the colony and easily gather the honey.   5. Know The Month-by-Month Tasks Of Keeping Bees | What is included in dealing with keeping bees? The same with gardening, keeping bees' tasks are separated each month or season. The perfect time to begin your hive is during spring so that the colony of bees you start with has room to build-up. Lay brood (infant honey bees), an increment in number, and store honey before the winter sets in.   6. Gather Your Beekeeping Supplies image via Amazon – Click to Shop! What are the tools I need to begin keeping bees? Find out the important supplies and what you can manage without for the time being. Keep in mind: begin little, so you can have room for adjustments if you need improvements or if you change your mind later.   7. Purchase Your Honey Bees image via amesfarm Now that you have more knowledge on keeping bees and have gathered your beekeeping supplies, it's now time to purchase your bees! To purchase a honey bee, you can choose between “package bees” and a queen, or a nuc colony. A nuc colony is a set of bees that has a queen who has already started laying brood. It is more established and can provide your hive a head start.   Need more tips on getting started with keeping bees? Check out this video from BrushyMtnBeeFarm: There you have it, my fellow homesteaders, that's how easy it is to get started with keeping bees. Keeping bees is a wonderfully rewarding and relaxing pastime. It does not consume much of your time nor does it break your bank in the process. The taste and health benefits of natural honey, plus the relaxing factor on caring for your own bee colony is all worth your effort. So what's stopping you from becoming a beekeeper?
