Victims Killed In Wisconsin Christian School Shooting Identified

Fourteen-year-old student Rubi Vergara and substitute teacher Erin West have been identified as the two people killed by a 15-year-old female shooter who opened fire at Abundant Life Christian School (ALCS) in Madison, Wisconsin, on Monday morning. Both Vergara and West died at the scene of the shooting from “firearm-related trauma,” the medical examiner’s office said on Wednesday, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. The 15-year-old shooter, who will not be named per Daily Wire policy, opened fire with a handgun in a study hall classroom that had students from mixed grades. She killed Vergara and West and wounded six others before turning the gun on herself. Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes said that police currently don’t have any indication that the shooter was targeting specific people. Barnes added that he did not know if the shooter was assigned to that particular study hall. “The shooter made a decision to walk into that study hall with mixed high school students and open fire,” Barnes told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “Everyone in that room had an equal chance of dying that day.” An obituary for Vergara posted on Wednesday evening said the high school freshman was “an avid reader, loved art, singing and playing keyboard in the family worship band.” “Her gentle, loving, and kind heart was reflected in her smile. Rubi was a blessing to her class and our school. She was not only a good friend, but a great big sister,” ALCS said in a statement, according to NBC News. CHECK OUT THE DAILY WIRE HOLIDAY GIFT GUIDE “Often seen with a book in hand, she had a gift for art and music. Yet, it was Rubi’s love for Jesus that shined brightest and she shared His love with others by volunteering faithfully,” the statement added. “She will be missed deeply by her teachers and fellow students.” West, 42, of DeForest, Wisconsin, was a substitute teacher for three years before she took the full-time role as the in-house substitute teacher and coordinator for ALCS. “She served our teachers and students with grace, humor, wisdom, and — most importantly — with the love of Jesus. Her loss is a painful and deep one and she will be greatly missed not just among our staff, but our entire ALCS family,” the school said. The medical examiner in Madison, Wisconsin, has identified the two victims who lost their lives in this week’s shooting at Abundant Life Christian School. The victims were 14-year-old Rubi P. Vergara, a student from Madison, and 42-year-old Erin M. West, a resident of DeForest,… pic.twitter.com/1JeXhgnx3f — Crime With Bobby (@CrimeWithBobby) December 19, 2024 A teacher and five students were wounded in the shooting. The surviving victims have not been identified, and four remain hospitalized, including two in critical condition, according to the most recent update from police. Authorities are still trying to determine a possible motive for the shooting and are looking into writings potentially belonging to the female shooter.

Fani Willis Disqualified From Trump Election Case. What Does That Mean For Trump?

Georgia’s Court of Appeals on Thursday disqualified Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis from prosecuting President-elect Donald Trump for supposed election interference, throwing the entire case into disarray. Willis hired her boyfriend, Nathan Wade, to be special prosecutor in the case and allegedly benefited financially from the arrangement. “This is the rare case in which disqualification is mandated and no other remedy will suffice to restore public confidence in the integrity of these proceedings,” Judge Trenton Brown wrote in the ruling, which was made by a three-judge panel. The ruling means Willis can’t lead the case against Trump in Georgia, but it’s uncertain how or if the case will continue when it’s kicked to another prosecutor. “Fani Willis was just disqualified by the Georgia Court of Appeals. Trump appears to be running the table in these lawfare cases,” law professor Jonathan Turley posted to X on Thursday. “It will now be up to another prosecutor as to whether to continue the case.” Fani Willis was just disqualified by the Georgia Court of Appeals. Trump appears to be running the table in these lawfare cases. It will now be up to another prosecutor as to whether to continue the case… — Jonathan Turley (@JonathanTurley) December 19, 2024 Turley noted that Willis, while “attempting to bag Trump,” “created an absurdly attenuated RICO theory that should not be embraced by the new prosecutor.” “While this disqualification is due to the conduct of Willis and not the underlying claims, any new prosecutor will have to make an independent judgment on whether and what to prosecute,” he wrote. …While this disqualification is due to the conduct of Willis and not the underlying claims, any new prosecutor will have to make an independent judgment on whether and what to prosecute… — Jonathan Turley (@JonathanTurley) December 19, 2024 The professor added that Willis “spent copious amounts of time and money” clinging to the Trump case, while “most prosecutors” would view continuing it as “undermining her office and not serving the interests of the public.” CHECK OUT THE DAILY WIRE HOLIDAY GIFT GUIDE “Willis was so invested in playing this high-profile lawfare role that she was willing to suspend prosecution and endanger the case itself,” he said. When Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAffee left the door open for Willis to withdraw, she refused, Turley said, which forced the appeal that ultimately led to her demise — and possibly the case’s demise. …Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAffee correctly criticized Willis for her decisions and creating “an appearance of impropriety.” However, he left it to Willis to do the right thing and withdraw. She did not and forced this appeal… — Jonathan Turley (@JonathanTurley) December 19, 2024 Related: ‘It’s DONE’: Reactions Pour In Over Latest Bombshell Report Against Fani Willis

Luigi Mangione Waives Extradition, Taken Into NYPD Custody

Luigi Mangione, the man suspected of assassinating UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, waived his extradition to New York on Thursday after initially signaling he would fight it while remaining in a Pennsylvania prison. Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg announced on Tuesday that Mangione is being charged with first-degree murder in furtherance of terrorism and two second-degree murder counts, one of which is charged as a killing in the act of terrorism. Mangione was immediately transferred to NYPD custody following his extradition hearing, and he is being flown to New York City, where he is set to appear for arraignment in Manhattan later on Thursday, CBS News reported. CNN reported that law enforcement officials said Mangione would appear in a federal courthouse in Manhattan, not in a state court as was initially expected. Sources told CNN that the 26-year-old suspect will also face federal charges, which could make him eligible for the death penalty, but it remains unclear what the federal charges might be. Around 100 supporters of Mangione gathered outside the courthouse in Pennsylvania, according to the New York Post. Some of the protesters held signs that read “Free Luigi,” “Private Healthcare Is A Crime Against Humanity,” and “Deny, Defend, Depose,” a phrase that echoes the words written on shell casings found at the sight of Thompson’s assassination, ABC 7 reported. CHECK OUT THE DAILY WIRE HOLIDAY GIFT GUIDE “Let me say this plainly, there is no heroism in what Mangione did. This was a senseless act of violence. It was a cold and calculated crime that stole a life and put New Yorkers at risk,” Tisch said. “We don’t celebrate murders and we don’t lionize the killing of anyone. And any attempt to rationalize this is vile, wreckless, and offensive to our deeply held principles of justice.” Bragg claims that Mangione “intended to evoke terror” with his alleged murder of Thompson. The DA argued that the killing of Thompson on December 4 “was intended to cause shock and attention and intimidation.” Some legal experts expressed skepticism over the prosecution’s chances to convict Mangione on the terrorism charges. In an interview with CNN’s Anderson Cooper, former federal prosecutor Jessica Roth suggested that “by including” the terrorism charges, “the district attorney is setting up the conditions for a plea to a lesser charge where he has the possibility of, at some point, getting out of prison.”

Courtroom Drama: Ryan Routh Faces Justice for Trump Attack Amid Florida’s Pushback

A tense legal battle unfolds as Florida charges Ryan Routh with attempted felony murder and domestic terrorism for an assassination attempt on President-elect Donald Trump. Allegations arise of federal resistance, frustrating cooperation between state and federal agencies. Meanwhile, a six-year-old girl remains gravely injured, demanding swift justice. How will these complex proceedings impact the state’s relationship with federal authorities and ensure accountability? State and Federal Conflict Erupts Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody announced charges against Ryan Routh for attempted felony murder. Despite already being in federal custody for attempting to assassinate Donald Trump, Routh faces state charges due to a police action-related crash during his apprehension. Reports indicate this crash caused severe injuries to a young girl, galvanizing Florida’s pursuit of justice. The assassination attempt occurred at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, with Routh also indicted by a federal grand jury. This incident incited tensions between state officials and federal authorities, who Florida claims are obstructing the investigation process. The federal obstruction has sparked significant criticism from Florida leadership. Accusations of Federal Obstruction Governor Ron DeSantis backed Moody’s efforts to overcome federal hurdles. He criticized the federal government’s handling and non-cooperation concerning the probe. This dissatisfaction is reflected in DeSantis’s issuance of an executive order for state law enforcement to investigate the incident comprehensively. Allegations against federal agencies include withholding evidence and limiting state participation in witness interviews. The State of Florida is conducting its own investigation into the second attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump. It is not in the best interests of our state and nation to have the same federal agencies seeking to prosecute Trump leading this investigation. As… pic.twitter.com/l61XCoe0ls — Ron DeSantis (@GovRonDeSantis) September 17, 2024 DeSantis and Moody express confidence in future federal leadership changes, hoping they will remove existing impediments. Meanwhile, Moody pursued legal action against the FBI for blocking their investigation, underlining the extensive struggle at play. The leaders’ determination illustrates their commitment to transparency and accountability in this high-profile case. Balancing Justice and Accountability The charges against Ryan Routh underscore the serious nature of this crime and the resultant call for justice, especially following the injuries sustained by the young girl. Moody stated that Routh’s criminal actions met the threshold for domestic terrorism, highlighting the complexity and severity of this case. Federal and state entities must navigate these challenging legal waters together to ensure accountability and justice prevail. #BREAKING: Gov. Ron DeSantis says federal government won't cooperate with Florida investigation into 2nd Trump assassination attempt "No, they are not being cooperative, and yes, I am concerned […] Our investigators were rebuffed just going to the fence line outside of Trump… pic.twitter.com/MpKf04VA1d — Florida’s Voice (@FLVoiceNews) September 19, 2024 As this case unfolds, the dialogue between state and federal authorities will likely influence the investigation’s outcome, as well as Trump’s safety and the broader implications for state sovereignty. The political dimensions further accentuate the significance of sound investigation practices, transparency, and effective collaboration.
