Ted Cruz: Tim Walz Remark Proves He’s Cheering For Illegal Aliens, Human Traffickers, Drug Cartels

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) said this week that a recent quote from far-left Minnesota Governor Tim Walz proves that he is actively rooting for illegal aliens to break U.S. immigration laws. Cruz made the remark on the most recent episode of his “Verdict” podcast with cohost Ben Ferguson after Walz said last week that he would invest in ladder companies that build ladders that are taller than the border wall on the U.S. southern border. “[Trump] talks about this wall. I always say, let me know how high it is. If it’s 25 feet, then I’ll invest in the 30-foot ladder factory,” Walz said during the CNN interview. Cruz responded: “Understand he’s not saying as like a financial matter that he wants to invest in ladder companies. He is not advising that as a stock-picking tip. What he’s saying is he’s rooting for the people climbing the wall. He’s rooting for the people crossing into this country, and he’s not admitting this, but he’s rooting for the human traffickers. He’s rooting effectively, for the drug cartels.” WATCH THE TRAILER FOR ‘AM I RACIST?’ — A MATT WALSH COMEDY ON DEI “And that’s exactly where Kamala Harris is,” he continued. “Kamala Harris was our border czar. She was in charge of the border during this invasion of eleven-and-a-half million people, and Tim Walz is there. He will be the cheerleader. The two of them will wave their pom poms, cheering on the invasion, going ‘yay, ladders, yay tunnels, get into this country illegally.’ Why? Because we think you’re going to vote for Democrats. And his record is he supports open borders. So does Kamala Harris, that’s why she picked him.” WATCH: Tim Walz and Border Czar Kamala Harris will be disasters on the southern border. Walz even signed a bill giving illegal aliens driver’s licenses, and he said that he is rooting for people climbing over the border wall.https://t.co/ca7VbwMPYH pic.twitter.com/YyjSgL8CkU — Ted Cruz (@tedcruz) August 7, 2024

Dad Shares Hilarious Clip Of Toddler “Being Careful” With Cup Of Water

Noah is a rambunctious toddler, and she loves helping her Dada, Teddy. She is appropriately named, as the Hebrew origin of the name “Noah” for a female means “motion.” Her father tracks her activity on TikTok when he can keep up. When he asked for help one day, Noah quickly ran to the rescue. She tried to be a careful toddler while carrying a full cup of water. However, things didn’t quite go as planned. @jlund0821 #sweetbabynoah #toddlersoftiktok #challenge ♬ original sound – Teddy Noah’s mission was to carry a full cup of water to her Dada. As she lifted the cup, it spilled. Unable to understand what had happened, she bent slightly to look at the puddle. More spillage occurred. She finally got the cup upright again, looking at her Dad. He offered gentle reassurance and urged her to continue bringing him the cup. Image from TikTok. As the careful toddler walked toward her Dad, she left a splattering of water along the entire path but finally reached her goal. Her Dad provided encouragement along the way, urging her to continue being careful and keep moving. She finally made it with an almost empty cup. After handing off the prize to her dad, she turned around to survey the damage. Image from TikTok. Teaching A Toddler To Be Careful Isn’t Always Easy Teddy assured his daughter it was okay, in a show of true parenting. Whenever Noah hesitated over a spill, he encouraged her to continue “helping” and bring him the cup. It is important to allow children to “help,” even if it means more work for a parent. That is how children learn new things. The next step is the cleanup effort. Hopefully, Teddy also allowed Noah to help with that. Teaching children is a full-time job for parents; almost every moment can be a teaching moment. Watching other videos, we’re pretty sure that happened. Teddy shares many daily events in their lives, and Noah is active, but you can see how she is growing into a wonderful little lady. Please share if you enjoyed watching Noah and her dad, Teddy, with this life lesson. You can find the source of this story’s featured image here. Does Life Begin at Conception? Science Has a Voice

I was convinced beyond a moral doubt: Life begins at conception. But my conviction was more instinctual than cerebral. Then I began to think. I could be wrong. There are simple answers to most complex questions about life, but they are often wrong. Moreover, who crowned me with the authority to decide for others when life begins? Complications and quandaries immediately appear. If life begins at conception, then every abortion is murder—the intentional taking of a human life. All who assist abortions could also be criminally prosecuted for aiding and abetting murder. That would mean millions of murder prosecutions annually. There can be no exceptions, even for rape, incest, or to save the life of the mother. Embryos, after all, are morally pure and free of sin. They have not yet had an opportunity to enjoy life outside the womb. The mother may have done nothing wrong but at least has enjoyed more life than the embryo. In other words, the embryo seems more deserving of life than the mother by any moral metric. The U.S. Constitution would prohibit any state from permitting abortion. The 14th Amendment prohibits the taking of life without due process of law. And an embryo is as innocent as a lamb. Is that what the authors of the amendment intended? Abortions were common in 1868, when the amendment was ratified. Further, fathers would be liable, from the moment of conception, for child support to mothers to optimize their health care, including costs of doctor and hospital checkups. This would diminish the probability of birth of a newborn with defects or handicaps. Courts would need to appoint guardians at the time of conception to control the mother’s behavior and nutrition to promote the birth of the embryo with maximum health and vigor. The father would be required to pay for the guardian as part of child support. The Constitution requires a census of all “persons” every 10 years to determine the allocation of seats in the House of Representatives among the states. If personhood begins at conception, census takers would need to test women to determine whether they are pregnant for an accurate count. The constitutional mandate of one person, one vote in drawing congressional, state, and municipal election districts would also require testing females within district boundaries for pregnancy. Pregnant females would be entitled to the child income tax credit for embryos or fetuses, which would be doubled or tripled if twins or triplets were anticipated. IRS auditors would be required to test the females claiming a child income tax credit for pregnancy and further proof if twins or triplets were claimed. The law permits the use of deadly force to prevent any person from killing another. If abortion is the murder of an unborn human life, then mothers seeking abortions and persons aiding them could be killed under the doctrine of defending the life of another. Section 1 of the 14th Amendment confers U.S. citizenship on “persons born in the United States,” but not on unborn embryos or fetuses. Is Section 1 itself unconstitutional because it arbitrarily treats born and unborn children differently? If frozen embryos are unborn children, then discarding them is first-degree murder. The Alabama Supreme Court recently ruled that frozen embryos (i.e., unborn children) possess the same rights as born children. Killing either the unborn or born is murder. Pro-choice advocates deny that life begins at conception. But who gave them that power? Not the U.S. Constitution. The law decides if life begins at conception. And the Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision entrusts the decision to the states. The Constitution permits states to punish abortion as murder, to permit abortion on demand, or choose something in between. Neither the Constitution nor law empowers scientists to decide when life begins, although legislators may consult their views in making the decision. A scientific paper published in 2021 examined the findings of 5,577 biologists. An overwhelming percentage (5,337 biologists) maintained that life begins during fertilization of the egg. Legislators would be wise to consider their views as well as the views of philosophers or clerics in defining when life begins. There are no easy answers here. The U.S. Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision jump-started pro-choice advocacy, which had atrophied since the heyday of Roe v. Wade. Since then, the six states that have held referenda on abortion have all yielded pro-choice results: California, Michigan, Ohio, Vermont, Kentucky, and Kansas. This year, up to 12 states may have abortion measures on the ballot, seeking to either affirm that their state constitutions protect the right to abortion or that nothing in them confers such a right. Maybe the best answer to the question of when life begins is, “It depends.” COPYRIGHT 2024 CREATORS.COM We publish a variety of perspectives. Women Less Likely Than Men To Get Pain Relief In The ER – And They Wait Longer

Women wait longer than men to receive medical care in hospital emergency departments and are less likely to receive pain medication for the same complaints, a study has found. The research reveals a troubling and “significant” sex bias in how medical staff perceive a patient’s pain.Gender and sex inequality in medicine is a well-documented phenomenon. It goes right back to the research that all of our medical treatments are based on – much of our historical anatomical knowledge was gleaned by dissecting only male bodies, and females continue to be underrepresented in preclinical and clinical trials.  Numerous studies have found that this bias persists throughout the medical establishment, leading to misdiagnoses and inappropriate treatment for women when their medical issues don’t fit preconceived male-biased patterns, and conditions that primarily or exclusively affect female bodies being under-researched. Now there’s a new strand of evidence to add to this disheartening picture. A team of scientists from the US and Israel studied medical records pertaining to more than 21,000 patients who had attended hospital emergency departments complaining of pain. The picture that emerged was one of notable sex-based disparities in treatment. Women were 10 percent less likely than men to have a recorded pain score – the number from one to 10 that helps patients give medical staff an indication of pain severity. The women also had to wait in the department for an average of 30 minutes longer than the men; and even when adjusting for pain scores and other variables, women were less likely than men to be prescribed painkillers. In short, as co-author Dr Alex Gileles-Hillel put it to Nature News, “Women are viewed as exaggerating or hysterical and men are viewed as more stoic when they complain of pain.”These same trends existed regardless of the gender of the nurse or doctor treating the patient. Some previous studies have found that female doctors and surgeons produce better outcomes for patients, but these findings suggest that preconceptions about female pain are so deeply ingrained that they color medics’ judgment, regardless of their own gender. In the second part of the study, the authors performed a controlled experiment with 109 nurses using clinical vignettes, which are case studies that are used as part of clinical training. This again revealed that pain was deemed less intense when the nurses were told that the patient in the scenario was female. “Our research reveals a troubling bias in how women's pain is perceived and treated in emergency care settings,” said corresponding author Professor Shoham Choshen-Hillel, in a statement emailed to IFLScience. “This under-treatment of female patients' pain could have serious implications for women's health outcomes, potentially leading to longer recovery times, complications, or chronic pain conditions.”The authors are calling for training to help healthcare workers recognize and address their sex biases. One option that Dr Gileles-Hillel suggested to Nature News could be a computerized alert that prompts doctors to prescribe pain relief whenever a patient – of any gender – reports a high enough pain score. The message from the findings is clear: hospitals should take another look at the pain management protocols to ensure that all patients who come through their doors receive equal access to care. The study is published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

Four-Eared Kitten Rescued By Animal Shelter Is Adorable Genetic Marvel

Sometimes genetics likes to throw an adorable spanner in the works, especially when it comes to the animal world. From albino anteaters to spotless giraffes, color is one aspect that is often at the hands of the genetic lottery – however, it seems ears are not immune to the effects either. When four kittens came to the True Rescue shelter in Mount Juliet, Tennessee, USA, the team was not expecting one of the litter to have four ears. Sharing the images of the adorable 8-9-week-old new arrival on their Facebook page, the team have named the four-eared kitten Audio. In their post, True Rescue explains that the vet will soon check over Audio but they believe that he will not be impaired by having the extra flaps to his ears. “We will have him fully checked by a vet, but from what we know, the inner ear is completely normal and will cause no issues, other than having extra flaps to clean!” While Audio is rare, he’s not the only cat of his kind. In 2021, a cat called Midas was found in Turkey with four ears and a heart-shaped patch of fur on her belly. As you can see from her very popular Instagram account, she is still thriving. In 2018, The Dodo reported on another four-eared cat that was found hiding under a house in Geelong, Australia. While the ears didn't seem to present any issues, one of his eyes was removed, earning him the name Frankenkitten due to the stiches. Little Frankie was adopted by one of the shelter volunteers involved in his care.          IFLScience is not responsible for content shared from external sites. While the prognosis is most likely good for Midas and Audio, Ariel the six legged “mermaid” dog underwent a successful surgery to remove her extra limbs earlier this year in Wales, UK. And if you can’t get enough of these animals, check out Narwhal and his bonus tail.

4,000-Year-Old Babylonian Texts Reveal Deadly Omens Associated With Lunar Eclipses

Lunar eclipses were more than just entertainment for the ancient Babylonians, who saw these celestial events as harbingers of doom. Reading the signals lurking in the shadows that devoured the Moon was therefore an important science, and resulted in the production of a series of texts documenting the various omens to be found in an eclipse.Written in cuneiform in the early second millennium BCE, these 4,000-year-old Mesopotamian warnings have finally been interpreted from four tablets that have been sitting in the British Museum for well over a century. Presenting their translations in a new study, the researchers reveal how various features of an eclipse could be used to foresee future events.By observing the time and date of a lunar eclipse, as well as the movement of the Earth’s shadow across the Moon, royal advisers could predict grave misfortunes that destiny had in store for a king. For instance, the tablets reveal that “an eclipse in the morning watch” signaled “the end of a dynasty” in the Mesopotamian city of Akkad. “Babylonian astrology was an academic branch of divination founded on the belief that events in the sky were coded signs placed there by the gods as warnings about the future prospects of those on Earth,” write the study authors. Accordingly, “astrological observation was part of an elaborate method of protecting the king and regulating his behavior in conformity with the wishes of the gods.”By cross-referencing the various features of an eclipse against an “academic corpus of celestial-omen texts,” royal advisors were able to decipher the intentions of the heavens and assist the king in avoiding a nasty outcome. The texts analyzed by the study authors are believed to have originated in the ancient Babylonian city of Sippar, located in modern-day Iraq. The tablets helped royal astronomers pre-empt the fate of the king.Image credit: © The Trustees of the British Museum CC BY-NC-SA 4.0Another of the omens inscribed on the tablets explains that “an eclipse in the evening watch… signifies pestilence,” while a particularly threatening entry states that “[if] an eclipse is the wrong way around… nothing will be spared, the Deluge will occur everywhere.” Exactly what the ancient astronomers mean by “the wrong way round” is unclear, though the researchers say this probably relates to a scenario in which the lunar disk is “somehow judged to be facing the opposite direction from that expected.”Fortunately, however, kings didn’t have to accept their fate lying down, as protective rituals could be employed to counteract unfavorable omens. Citing a letter from a diviner to King Zimri-Lim of Mari (a region in Mesopotamia), the researchers say that the portents of ill-boding eclipses could be double-checked by extispicy – which involves examining animals’ entrails – “to determine whether the king was in real danger.”“First-millennium texts show that if, after such enquiry, the king’s advisers felt the threat still to be present, action could be taken to annul it, by identifying the forces of evil that lay behind it and countering them with apotropaic rituals,” explain the study authors.Highlighting the overall importance of these somewhat paranoid engravings, the researchers say they “represent the oldest examples of compendia of lunar-eclipse omens yet discovered and thus provide important new information about celestial divination among the peoples of southern Mesopotamia in the early second millennium BCE.”The study is published in the Journal of Cuneiform Studies.
