Bob Daisley recalls how Ozzy and Rhoads were bad at writing lyrics

Bob Daisley recalls how Ozzy and Rhoads were bad at writing lyrics

Born in Sydney, Australia back in 1950, Bob Daisley was part of many incredible bands during his career like Rainbow, Uriah Heep, Gary Moore, Black Sabbath and Ozzy Osbourne. But besides being an incredible bass player, he also is a really fantastic lyricist and he showed that by writing the lyrics for most of the best-selling Ozzy Osbourne albums. In an interview with Johnny Beane (Transcribed by Ultimate Guitar), Daisley recalled how bad Ozzy and the late guitarist Randy Rhoads were bad when it came to writing lyrics. Bob Daisley recalls how Ozzy and Rhoads were bad at writing lyrics "I first got into it really was that Ozzy wasn't a lyricist and neither was Randy. It was only the three of us to start with. And we were auditioning drummers and writing songs at the time. I remember, we were at a rehearsal place called TransAm Trucking in a place called Ilketshall in Suffolk in England. And I came down, it was a live-in situation, and we were auditioning drummers and writing, and I came down one morning, and Ozzy and Randy had tried their hand at writing and lyrics with one of the songs." "And I thought, 'God, this is awful.' (Laughs) It was like Spinal Tap, but worse. (Laughs) So I thought, 'I'm gonna have to wear the lyricist hat.' And I just thought — we wanted to be self-sufficient, we don't want to get writers outside of the band and we want to keep it under our roof. So I took on the role of lyricist and lyrics for the songs. There was a couple where Ozzy had had a line or a title or something like that. But, you know, 99% of it was me," Bob Daisley said. During the same conversation he compared being a lyricist for Ozzy and for the other groups he was part of. According to him, in Rainbow, for example, Ronnie James Dio was an amazing songwriter, so he didn't need to help that much. Daisley was part of Ozzy's band from 1979 to 1981, 1983 to 1985, 1988 (As a session musician), 1990 to 1991 (As a session musician) and from 1995 to 1995. Phil Mogg confirms UFO won’t reunite anymore

The UFO vocalist Phil Mogg suffered a heart attack in 2023 and the plans for a possible farewell tour had to be canceled. A few months ago he confirmed that the Hard Rock band was done and he already announced the first album of his new project called Moggs Motel. In a new interview The Metal Gods Meltdown (Transcribed by Blabbermouth), the musician said that UFO is done and won't reunite anymore. Phil Mogg confirms UFO won't reunite anymore "I think we've reached that point now (that the band is over). (So) I believe when Pete (Way) went, that it kind of took the wind out of our sails, out of the band, really. I know he was going a bit loopy, but he had a lot of the character which was in the band. So, no, we couldn't replace him. And no, definitely not. No. I think that'd end up being like the Frank Sinatra tour, wouldn't it? What's the other band? Scorpions kept retiring, didn't they?" "The other thing is when you say, 'This is our last tour,' that really should be. Because people come along and they've spent their money getting there or doing whatever for the last tour. Then if you turn around and do another one, they go, 'Oh, you've just done your last tour. I've just paid 50 quid for that.' It would be a little bit unfair," Phil Mogg said. During the same interview he answered how he would like UFO to be remembered "Just as a cracking good little band. Nothing too glorious, but just… You know when you go, like I do, I'd seen The Animals at Club Noreik in Tottenham when I was about 14, 15. And I always would go, 'Oh, that was a good band. I really enjoyed that night.' And I enjoyed Eric Burdon. So, I think that's compliment enough," Phil Mogg said. Career with UFO https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NkWD8JqNOb0&pp=ygULbW9nZ3MgbW90ZWw%3D Formed in London, England in 1968, they became in the following decades one of the most influential Hard Rock bands of all time. Besides Mogg, some of the other classic members of the band were Pete Way (Bass), Andy Parker (Drums) and Michael Schenker (Guitar). In almost five decades of career, the band released 22 studio albums, the final one being “The Salentino Cuts” (2017). They were a huge influence to famous bands like Iron Maiden, for example. For decades, the Metal band plays their song “Doctor Doctor” as the intro of their concerts. The band’s leader, the bassist Steve Harris is a huge fan of UFO. Some of their most famous tracks are “Doctor Doctor”, “Rock Bottom”, “Mother Mary” and “Lights Out”. The post Phil Mogg confirms UFO won’t reunite anymore appeared first on Rock And Roll Garage.

The Rush hit Geddy Lee said it is tough to play live

The Rush hit Geddy Lee said it is tough to play live

Formed in Toronto, Canada back in 1968, Rush started more as a Hard Rock group, being even compared with Led Zeppelin on their first album. But after the drummer Neil Peart joined the band and became their main lyricist, Alex Lifeson and Geddy Lee also explored more their Progressive Rock influences, mixing Prog with Hard Rock, creating a unique sound. They experimented a lot in their career, writing simple and really complex songs. Sometimes they even had trouble playing the songs they recorded. Geddy Lee once talked about a Rush hit that is tough to play. The Rush hit Geddy Lee said it is tough to play live As Lee said in an interview with Prog magazine in 2013, the song that is difficult to play live is "Spirit of Radio", released on their 1980 album "Permanent Waves". "There are two or three songs we do every night when I hope that we're all on the same time when we play them. The Spirit Of Radio is one. It was always hard to play and it's still hard to play! I always hold my breath a little bit before we play it. And some nights it goes completely haywire. It's a toughie!" Geddy Lee said. The real station that inspired Rush’s Spirit of The Radio “Begin the day with a friendly voice, a companion, unobtrusive, plays that song that’s so elusive, and the magic music makes your morning mood”. If you are a big Rush fan you probably heard this phrase a thousand times. Because it is simply the intro of the song. Although the track is a tribute to every radio station in the world, it was actually inspired by a Canadian station called CFNY, which was formed in 1960 and still exists, now called “102.1 The Edge” and plays Alternative Rock. During the same interview with Prog magazine in 2013, Geddy Lee talked about that station. He said: “CFNY reminded us of when FM radio first started in America and Canada,” Geddy says. “You’d have your favorite DJ and he had no playlist – he would just play music.” He continued: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QuL_euRslTc&pp=ygUQc3Bpcml0IG9mIHJhZGlvIA%3D%3D “So he was turning you on to new music all the time. It was part of why we became musicians – it was that important. And this was a stark contrast to what was happening in 1980. (Which was) the beginning of consultants programming 50 radio stations across the country. That was kind of depressing to think of. So the song was a lament for a better time,” Geddy Lee said. Curiously, the track also has a small kind of tribute to the Simon and Garfunkel 60s song "Sound of Silence". The 60s song says: "And the sign said, 'The words of the prophets are written on the subway walls and tenement halls and whispered in the sounds of silence". The Rush track says: "The words of the profits are written on the studio wall, concert hall. Echoes with the sounds of salesmen." Besides being featured on the album "Permanent Waves", the track was also released as a single. It peaked at number 51 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and performed better in the UK, peaking at number 13 on the singles chart. PATRIOT FRONT Is Just The FBI In Disguise: Here’s The Proof

The following article, PATRIOT FRONT Is Just The FBI In Disguise: Here’s The Proof, was first published on Conservative Firing Line. (Natural News) Just as many suspected was the case, the “white nationalist hate group” (to quote the Southern Poverty Law Center) Patriot Front is nothing more than a front group for the FBI to inject federal agents into right-wing affairs. A newly unearthed trove of declassified, though highly redacted, documents confirms that the FBI has been tied … Continue reading PATRIOT FRONT Is Just The FBI In Disguise: Here’s The Proof ...

‘Didn’t qualify for the Olympics’ sports fail videos are even better than the real events

Watching the Olympics is always an inspiring reminder of the incredible human ability to push the boundaries of excellence and achievement in sports. It can also be a good reminder of the utter inability the vast majority of us have to even come close to the feats those athletes perform. There's a funny phenomenon with the Olympics where we all become overnight armchair experts in every sport, critiquing diving teams' synchronicity and rock climbers' foot placement and gymnasts' landings as if we have any idea what we're talking about. And there's also the phenomenon where, somewhere in our bodies, we feel like we might actually be able to do backflips on a balance beam or butterfly stroke our way across a pool or run 100 meters in 10 seconds.Of course, the truth is we can't. It takes years and years of intense training to be able to do what Olympians do, and the rest of us aren't even in the same universe of skill and physical ability as they are. That's where the "didn't quality for the 2024 Olympics" viral video trend comes in, offering a hilariously humbling reality check for us all. When elite athletes make their sport look easy, it's easy to forget how hard what they do actually is. Seeing people blunder their way through it, though, makes the difficulty painfully clear. So when people started sharing videos of sports fails on social media, tagging them with the captions along the lines of, "Unfortunately didn't qualify for the 2024 Olympic team," it became a hilarious viral celebration of human un-achievement. For instance, this: @sky.to.swaggy surprised they didnt ask me to come out of retirement ?‍♀️ If @Simone Biles comments I’ll go back to gymnastics #olympics2024paris #gymnastics #simonebiles And this: @bellitabaute Training for LA 2028!! #2024olympics And this: @sweetpotatoes2006 maybe next olympics? Sometimes you don't make it because maybe you're just a little too powerful. @marshalls_life i gave it my best shot tho! #paris2024 #olympics #fail #fyp This girl is all of us after watching the diving events, mistakenly thinking we could do some of what they do. @www.ihaveacrushonyou maybe next year ! ?#olympics #iwillbethenextsteelejohnson or #simonebiles From high jump and pole vault fails to balls and bodies bouncing in ways they aren't supposed to, this trend has people wincing but rolling at the examples of why Olympians are Olympians and the rest of us are the rest of us. — (@) Of course, even Olympic athletes have epic fails of their own sometimes, which only serves to prove how difficult it is to get to their level but and execute their skills perfectly each time. All the more reason to appreciate their talent and hard work and perhaps to be a bit humbler in our critiques from the couch. Here's to humans who do extraordinary things—and to humans who find humor in all the epic fails it takes to get there.
