Putin invited to Trump's 'peace council'

Foreign. Russian President Vladimir Putin has received an invitation to participate in U.S. President Donald Trump's so-called peace councillor for Gaza, according to the Kremlin.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov confirms the invitation to journalists, while at the same time Moscow says it wants to clarify the details of the proposal through contacts with Washington.

According to the plans, Trump himself is to lead the "peace council," and on the list of people mentioned as members, among others, the US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Trump's own son-in-law Jared Kushner, former British Prime Minister Tony Blair and U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff.

The Council, described as a body of global peacebuilding with Gaza as its first mission, has so far not published a final membership list. Many questions about the Council's mandate, how it should relate to the UN and what legal responsibility it gets is still open.

From the Russian side, it is emphasized that no final position will be taken until all the details of the invitation have been analyzed.
