Accidental Water Gun Spray Leads To Woman Receiving ‘Assault With A Weapon’ Charge?

An Ontario woman faces an ‘assault with a weapon’ charge after she reportedly sprayed her neighbor with a water gun on accident. “Wendy Washik was at a neighbourhood barbecue on Sept. 1 when she joined a playful water gun fight with one of her neighbour’s children. As the 58-year-old educational assistant was chasing the child to the front of the home, she said she accidentally sprayed another neighbour with water,” CTV News Toronto reports. In an interview with CTV News Toronto, Washik said the neighbor began screaming at her following the incident. The neighbor called police and officers reportedly charged her with assault with a weapon. “I was in shock. I just couldn’t believe it. I kept saying to the police officer, ‘It was a water gun. I didn’t do it intentionally. I was having a water gun fight!’ I just couldn’t believe it,” Washik said, according to the outlet. I thought this was a comedy skit at first. pic.twitter.com/OtytovA90R — Kat Kanada (@KatKanada_TM) September 12, 2024 CTV News Toronto reports: According to an Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) news release issued on Sept. 3, a Norfolk County officer was called to the Woodway Trail home for a report of a neighbour dispute which resulted in the victim being physically assaulted. No injuries were reported. Washik’s full name, age and area of residence were included in the news release announcing the assault with a weapon charge against her but a description of the type of weapon used was not. Washik said her school board has placed her on leave pending the resolution of the court proceedings. “I’ve been very stressed, mentally and financially stressed. My family has been through a lot too,” she said. Although Washik says she still can’t believe she is facing an assault with a weapon charge, one Toronto criminal defence lawyer said “anything” can qualify as a weapon. “Frankly, a pencil, a knife, picture frame…it depends upon how the object is utilized that determines whether or not it’s a weapon. So, the water gun can be qualified as a weapon as a result,” Monte MacGregor, who is not involved in the case, told CTV News Toronto in an interview. “And assault is where you touch someone or threaten to touch them in a manner without their consent, right?” #REPORT: Wendy Washik from Simcoe, Ontario, has been charged with assault with a weapon after spraying her neighbour with a water gun. pic.twitter.com/kip2SQJj77 — 6ixBuzzTV (@6ixbuzztv) September 11, 2024 'An unfortunate waste of resources': Ontario woman facing criminal charge following water gun incident https://t.co/HzhU3Sy3J0 — CP24 (@CP24) September 12, 2024 From CP24: Washik is due in court on Sept. 24 to answer for the charge and MacGregor said her lawyer will likely have a chance to speak with the Crown attorney before then. He said the Crown attorney may use their discretion and offer Washik a resolution, however, it may require her taking responsibility for the incident. “[The Crown] is not supposed to adjudicate the situation either, right? And at this point they have one aggrieved person, the guy who said, ‘Well, she hit me intentionally with a gun.’ She’s got a defence, but it still may warrant a trial. It’s an unfortunate waste of resources, but you know, the justice system is to serve everyone,” MacGregor explained. CTV News Kitchener attempted to speak with the neighbour who reported the incident to the police but he did not appear to be home at the time. For the OPP’s part, it said it is committed to maintaining high standards in their investigative work, “regardless of how the public may perceive the allocation of resources.” Washik said she hopes the matter is resolved before Sept. 24. Her daughter has since started a GoFundMe campaign to cover her legal expenses. “I am hoping and praying that it goes my way,” she said. WATCH:

The Gateway Hotel, a Tren de Aragua Hotel, Was Shut Down

The Gateway Hotel in El Paso, Texas, has housed suspected Tren de Aragua members. The District Attorney filed an injunction to shut them down, at least temporarily. The residents are violent, dangerous, and don’t care who or what they destroy. It’s overrun by people here illegally, and many appear to be criminals. There is blood […] The post The Gateway Hotel, a Tren de Aragua Hotel, Was Shut Down appeared first on www.independentsentinel.com.

Woman Charged Over Accidental WATER GUN Shooting

In Trudeau’s Canada, accidental use of a water gun can get you arrested. Norfolk County, Ontario resident Wendy Washik, 58, has been charged with “assault with a weapon” after accidentally squirting a bystander with water during a water gun fight with some neighborhood children. It’s Not Just Springfield, This Small Town In Pennsylvania Is Overrun By Haitian Migrants, Too

As covered by The Daily Wire, Springfield, Ohio, has seen a massive influx of Haitian migrants since 2020, wreaking havoc on public services and causing a myriad of social problems. But Springfield is not the only town struggling with a sudden influx of Haitian migrants. Charleroi, a small town in Pennsylvania, has seen a 2000% increase in its immigration population in the past two years, with the majority coming from Haiti. The small town had a population of about 4,200 in 2022, before the sudden influx. Charleroi’s population has since doubled, according to Charleroi Council President Kristin Hopkins-Calcek. Residents are noticing similar problems as Springfield citizens. For one, driving in the area has become increasingly hazardous. “The immigrants now have been issued driver’s licenses but do not know how to read the traffic signs, causing numerous traffic accidents in the borough,” one long-time resident told The Daily Wire. “And I stress numerous, just about every week you hear about another causing injury or property damage.” “Cars are going the wrong way and there are wrecks at least once a week,” another resident said during a City Council meeting, The Mon Valley Independent reported this week. “Three very bad accidents in less than one month. Something needs to be done before somebody is killed.” Am I Racist? ONLY In Theaters Tomorrow—Get Your Tickets Now! One resident questioned how immigrants are so easily getting driver’s licenses. In Pennsylvania, immigrants with Temporary Protected Status, or TPS, are eligible to apply for a driver’s licenses. “We need to reach out to our legislature to make changes on the driving privileges of drivers brought to this area from other countries,” she said. “It does not appear that any additional training or licensing is done before they’re given the privilege of driving a car. Something terrible is going to happen.” Similar to Springfield, schools in the Charleroi area are over capacity and struggling to pay for resources and teachers who can teach English as a second language. “The Charleroi School District is overwhelmed trying to teach and communicate with all the new students, with most not knowing how to speak English and taking away learning time from the rest of the kids,” the resident told The Daily Wire. According to a CBS report from March, the district had to hire additional ELL (English language learners) teachers, an ELL coach for the teachers, and an interpreter, which cost more than $400,000. An additional $300,000 was projected to be spent for the 2025 school year. The town is also struggling to beef up law enforcement, due to both the sudden rise in immigrant population and an issue with police retention. Charleroi has had to increase its police budget by $73,000, compared to last year, according to a report from The Mon Valley Independent published Thursday. Residents are worried the increase will spark higher taxes, despite assurances from the council that there won’t be a larger-than-expected tax increase next year. “We want to keep the public safe. We are having issues we have never had before,” Council President Kristin Hopkins-Calcek said. “Our population has doubled and we have our police enforcing everything that citizens have demanded over time that they enforce.” As highlighted by The Daily Wire, the Biden-Harris administration this past June expanded temporary legal status to 300,000 Haitians, lasting until at least February 2026. This allows these migrants to remain and work in the U.S. until then, and possibly beyond. This was awarded to any Haitian in the U.S. who was here before or on June 3. Biden also has a program that allows 30,000 migrants per month from Haiti, Cuba, Nicaragua, and Venezuela to fly directly into the U.S. for two years if they have financial sponsors.
