A viral video with comments from a Los Angeles Fire Department assistant chief has angered many in the wake of the devastating wildfires destroying southern California. The video shows assistant chief Kristine Larson explain why it is important to have minority members of the fire department, and then she appears to defensively mock fire victims. Larson was lauded as the first black woman to be hired on as an LAFD chief. 'This is actually appalling. This is a public servant?' "You want to see somebody that responds to your house, your emergency, whether it's a medical call or a fire call, that looks like you," said Larson in the video. "It gives that person a little bit more ease knowing that somebody might understand their situation better." She went on to address criticism that some women may not meet the strength standards needed to fulfill the requirements of the job. "'Is she strong enough to do this?'" she said in the voice of critics. "'You couldn't carry my husband out of a fire.'" "Which my response is, 'He got himself in the wrong place if I have to carry him out of a fire.'" The video was posted on social media, where it garnered 2.2 million views in only three hours. Many of the responses expressed disbelief that a first responder would make such comments. "This is actually appalling. This is a public servant?" responded commentator Mary Katherine Ham. "This woman should be fired just for saying this. It’s a total betrayal of public trust," replied writer Mark Hemingway. "I have no problem w/women being first responders. EMS teams are often part of fire departments and it would be silly to expect them all to be strongmen. That said, WTF are you doing mocking people caught in a fire!?! Dumbest frick'n talking point imaginable," said Jonah Goldberg of the Dispatch. "I honestly cannot believe this is real," said Brandon Morse of Red State. Donald Trump is making some big and unusual promises before taking office for the second time. Among them are his apparent plans to rename the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America as well as buying Greenland and making Canada the 51st state. “Here’s the thing,” Glenn Beck of “The Glenn Beck Program” begins. “Greenland, they’ve got like 12 people. And Denmark owns it, and they have no intention of giving it up. But it’s like Alaska. It is rich with earth minerals.” “It’s the richest nation in the world, but Denmark won’t let anything be explored. It is also a strategic place for bases,” he explains. Of course, the media is doing what they can to make Trump’s plans sound nefarious, so they’re asking Trump loaded questions like whether or not he plans to take the Panama Canal, Greenland, and Canada by “force.” “No. Economic force. Because Canada and the United States, that would really be something. You get rid of that artificially drawn line, and you take a look at what that looks like, and it would also be much better for national security. Don’t forget we basically protect Canada,” Trump explained in a press conference. “So now the press is freaking out. ‘This is an imperialist president, he’s trying to create a new Rome,’ blah, blah. Do you have absolutely no brain cells that work in your head anymore?” Glenn says. “The one thing you have to understand about Donald Trump, is he’s a negotiator. He’s merely negotiating. That’s all that’s happening here,” he continues. “All he’s doing is signaling, ‘You’re a speed bump to me. I don’t need to do anything, I’ve just got these giant tariffs, and we’ll probably end up owning you anyway because you’re a failing state.’” “OK, he’s negotiating. He’s setting the table. On Greenland, the same thing. He’s just setting the table. He is saying to Greenland, ‘You know, I think we should take it.’ Now, is he serious on that one? Yes. The U.S. Supreme Court ruled against a bid from the attorneys for President-elect Donald Trump to delay the sentencing in the case involving hush-money paid to adult movie worker Stormy Daniels. The court ruled in a narrow 5-4 vote against Trump on Thursday. 'The Biden/Harris DOJ forced Bragg to concoct anything to embarrass TRUMP.' Justices John Roberts and Amy Coney Barrett sided with the liberal justices on the court. "First, the alleged evidentiary violations at President-Elect Trump's state-court trial can be addressed in the ordinary course on appeal. Second, the burden that sentencing will impose on the President-Elect's responsibilities is relatively insubstantial in light of the trial court's stated intent to impose a sentence of 'unconditional discharge' after a brief virtual hearing," read the ruling. Trump will face sentencing on Friday at 9:30 ET, although he will be allowed to attend the ruling via video-conference. He was found guilty by a jury of 34 counts of falsifying business records over $130k that was paid out to Daniels in order to keep her from speaking to the press about her claims of an extramarital affair with Trump. He denies the charges. Trump became the first U.S. president to be guilty of criminal charges and, barring any extraordinary event, will become the first U.S. president to be elected despite being a felon. Judge Juan M. Merchan has signaled that he would give Trump an "unconditional discharge" that would allow him to avoid prison time, any fine, or probation. Merchan had previously denied postponing the sentencing on the basis that Trump's immunity claims did not apply to acts he committed privately. Trump excoriated the judge in a post on social media. "Ultimately, the Biden/Harris DOJ forced Bragg to concoct anything to embarrass TRUMP. But it was even more so what the CORRUPT and TOTALLY CONFLICTED POLITICAL HACK Judge did, and is doing, on this sham trial," wrote Trump. "The Judge fabricated the facts, and the law, no different than the other New York Judicial and Prosecutorial Witch Hunts.
