Vatican Apologizes After Pope Francis Says There’s ‘Too Much Fa***try’ In Seminaries

Pope Francis reportedly railed against the number of gay priests-in-training during a private address to Catholic bishops last week that leaked to Italian news organizations this week. Francis, 87, allegedly made the remarks in the context of proposals that were being made from Italian bishops about changes they want to see made on guidelines determining the candidates that seminaries accept. He reportedly said that he was opposed to letting in candidates who were leading a “double life” by claiming to be celibate while secretly being gay, The Telegraph reported. He said that there was “already too much fa***try” in seminaries, according to numerous translations of his speech, which was in Italian. CNN noted that Francis in 2016 upheld the Vatican’s ruling in 2005 that the Catholic church cannot allow the ordination of gay men. In 2018, he told Italian bishops “not to accept gay candidates for the priesthood,” the report added. However, the Vatican backtracked on his comments from last week after they were leaked to the press and some backlash ensued online. CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP “The Pope never intended to offend or express himself in homophobic terms, and he extends his apologies to those who felt offended by the use of a term, as reported by others,” the Vatican said in a Tuesday statement. “As he (Pope Francis) has said on several occasions, ‘in the Church there is room for everyone, everyone! No one is useless, no one is superfluous, there is room for everyone. Just as we are, everyone.’”

READ IT: Harrison Butker’s Full Speech At The ‘Courage Under Fire’ Gala In Nashville

On Friday night, Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker gave a speech in Nashville at the “Courage Under Fire” gala fundraiser event for Regina Caeli Academy, a Catholic homeschool organization. The speech was Butker’s first public remarks following his viral commencement speech at Benedictine College where he championed Catholic values, causing a leftist meltdown. The Daily Wire was on hand for Butker’s Friday speech. Below is transcript of his remarks lightly edited for clarity: Good evening everyone. Thank you for being here in support of Regina Caeli Academy. It’s been great to see a lot of friends here tonight and to meet so many of the families that attend our centers across the country. Going into my second year as a board member, I can tell you there is an exciting future ahead with plans for expansion and new leadership. It’s safe to say that RCA has the potential to lay a solid foundation for a legion of future saints. Thank you to Charlie McKinney for joining us on the journey and for hitting the ground running from day one. I especially would like to recognize Nicole Juba for her years of dedication to RCA and its mission. She’s provided a steady hand over many years, and I know I speak on behalf of the entire board when I say that we are thankful for her leadership. Lastly, this night has been made possible because one woman has tirelessly dedicated herself to its success. Thank you, Alissa Walsh, for the many hours you and your team have worked to make tonight possible. Lastly, I would like to recognize Canon Commons and Father Acres for being here and supporting RCA. The fraternity and the institute have both been instrumental in my formation as a husband and as a father. The theme for tonight’s gala, “Courage Under Fire,” was decided many months ago, but it now feels providential that this would be the theme after what we have all witnessed these past two weeks. If it wasn’t clear that the timeless Catholic values are hated by many, it is now. Over the past few days, my beliefs — or what people think I believe — have been the focus of countless discussions around the globe. At the outset, many people expressed a shocking level of hate, but as the days went on, even those who disagreed with my viewpoints shared their support for my freedom of religion. In my seven years in the NFL, I’ve become familiar with the positive and negative comments, but the majority of them revolve around my performance on the field. But, as to be expected, the more I’ve talked about what I value most, which is my Catholic faith, the more polarizing I have become. It’s a decision I’ve consciously made and one I do not regret at all. If we have truth and charity, we should trust in the Lord’s providence and let the Holy Ghost do the rest of the work. Our love for Jesus and thus our desire to speak out should never be outweighed by the longing of our fallen nature to be loved by the world. Glorifying God and not ourselves should always remain our motivation despite any pushback or even support. I lean on those closest to me for guidance, but I can never forget that it is not people, but Jesus Christ who I am trying to please. I’m humbled by the support I’ve received from all walks of life, but I can’t help but tremble at the thought of the courage many saints have shown in their lives. Would I be so bold if the repercussion was what Daniel faced in being fed to lions? In reality, any courage I’ve shown will lead to some small suffering and it will lead to some people maybe never liking me, but that could be God’s will. If I constantly remind myself of the hardships the saints went through, especially the martyrs in their persecution, it makes it all seem not so bad. For if heaven is our goal, we should embrace our cross however large or small it may be and live our life with joy to be a bold witness for Christ. My hope is that tonight’s theme and RCA’s mission will embolden others that many more will be unapologetic of their Catholic faith and never be afraid to speak out for truth, even when it goes against the loudest voices. In the end, being courageous starts with the small things. Being disliked and mischaracterized by some is nothing compared to finding yourself in a lion’s den. Thank you. Lastly, it’s great to see my friend, President Steve Minnis. I would be remiss if I didn’t thank him for his courage and his friendship. Thank you again for being here tonight. To the heights. California’s Democratic Legislature Scrambling To Delay $25 Health Care Minimum Wage

California’s Democratic Legislature Scrambling To Delay $25 Health Care Minimum Wage

California’s legislature is trying to delay a new $25 minimum wage for health care workers after Democrats realized it will have larger ramifications for the state’s budget. Governor Gavin Newsom (D) signed the law back in October despite warnings from legislative analysts about the high cost to the state itself. The Democrat-controlled legislature is now scrambling to delay the law, which is set to take effect on June 1 and would start phasing in a $25 minimum wage for healthcare workers by 2028. The state has predicted the new minimum wage law will likely cost California another $4 billion a year. This is mainly because Medicaid costs would jump, and the state would have to pay more to its own workers at state-owned health care facilities. Health care providers have also warned that mandating higher pay could force them to pare down patient services. Some California hospitals say they expect the law to cost them tens of millions of dollars. Meanwhile, California’s budget deficit is now a whopping $45 billion. Last week, Newsom presented his latest budget proposal. He said that the governor’s office, the legislature, and supporters of the new minimum wage are currently working out a deal on potential changes to the law. “This budget will not be signed without that deal that we committed to being addressed,” Newsom said. However, it is not clear whether a deal will be reached before Saturday, when the law takes effect. It is also not clear what the sticking points are in the negotiations. If no changes are made by this weekend, the minimum wage for health care workers will jump to between $18 and $23 an hour, depending on the health care provider. By 2028, almost all workers at health care facilities in California will be paid at least $25 an hour. Some health care facilities have already begun raising wages for workers in anticipation of the law. Others have not done so yet. California’s current minimum wage for all workers is $16 an hour. In September, Newsom also signed a law establishing a new $20 an hour minimum wage for fast food workers, which kicked in last month. However, the governor carved out several expeditions, including for fast food restaurants located on certain government-owned lands. Since the law was signed, California fast food restaurants have increased prices by 10% overall, more than any other state, according to the market research firm, Dataessential. One Pizza Hut franchise operator said it was laying off 1,200 drivers, and Chipotle and Mcdonald’s said they would raise prices as a result of the law.

CNN Legal Analyst Pans Trump Prosecution As Hush-Money Trial Wraps: ‘They Fell Way Short’

CNN legal analyst Randy Zelin, a defense attorney, told CNN anchor Kate Bolduan that he did not believe the prosecution had come anywhere close to meeting its burden in the hush-money trial against former President Donald Trump. Bolduan set Zelin up for the question, noting that in every court case, the burden of proof rests on the prosecution — and the prosecutor’s ability to prove the case “beyond a reasonable doubt” to the jury. WATCH: ?CNN LEGAL ANALYST ADMITS BRAGG’S TEAM “FELL WAY SHORT” ON GETTING TRUMP! “They fell way short…There is reasonable doubt all over this case,” CNN legal analyst Randy Zelin said. Bragg definitely doesn’t want you to share this! pic.twitter.com/FUZ8Dks2ZH — Bo Loudon (@BoLoudon) May 28, 2024 “The burden of proof is an important one to remind everyone: It’s on the prosecution, right? They need to prove beyond reasonable doubt that he commit — that Donald Trump broke the law. And you think after listening to all of this, you think they fell short,” Bolduan began. “How?” “They fell way short, because let’s start with reasonable doubt. What is reasonable doubt? And it’s not simply a doubt based upon reason,” Zelin began. “Any time a human being needs to make an important decision in life, if you have enough information, for example, doctor says you need open heart surgery. ‘Doc, go ahead and schedule. I don’t have a reasonable doubt.’ Conversely, if I say, ‘I appreciate it, but I need a second opinion, I need more information,’ that is having a reasonable doubt. There is reasonable doubt all over this case,” he continued. CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP Zelin went on to name several of the prosecution’s key witnesses and explain why he did not think they had made the case against Trump in a credible way. “How did Michael Cohen get away with stealing $30,000? Hold a pity party for him — made $4 million on this, thought he’d be chief of staff. He’s a fixer! If the plumber comes to my house to fix my leak, I could be home. That doesn’t mean I know how he’s doing it and what it’s taking to be fixed,” Zelin said, suggesting that Trump may have hired a “fixer,” but still could have been unaware of the methods Cohen had employed. “Stormy Daniels, let’s hold a pity party for her. Why do we need to know whether or not the former president wore a condom or not?” he continued. “It’s simply about: Did the former president know that books, his records, false entries for legal fees — Michael Cohen was his lawyer — getting intent to cover up the election or to protect his family? It’s everywhere. Everywhere!”

Schumer ‘Relented’ And Signed Invite For Netanyahu To Address Congress, House Speaker Declares

Senate Majority Chuck Schumer (D-NY) “relented” and signed onto a letter inviting Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to address a joint session of Congress, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) announced on Tuesday. During an interview on a Louisiana radio talk show, Johnson said Schumer had been “dithering” around since mid-March — when the speaker first raised the prospect of asking Netanyahu to deliver a speech to U.S. lawmakers. And so Johnson gave Schumer an ultimatum. “I called his bluff last week,” Johnson said on Tuesday, “and said I would invite Netanyahu myself and just skip over him and send individual invitations to senators to join us if they wished. And all of them would, I’m sure, except for a handful. And so finally he relented.” Schumer faced “public pressure and agreed to co-sign a letter so that invitation is going out,” Johnson added. The speaker also predicted Netanyahu will “come soon” and noted that he was scheduled to speak with the Israeli prime minister again later in the day. In March, Johnson said on CNBC’s “Squawk Box” that he wanted to invite Netanyahu to address a joint session of Congress in a show of support for Israel as its forces fought against Hamas in the Gaza Strip following a deadly terrorist attack on Israeli soil in October. At the time, Schumer had just delivered a speech in which he called for Israel to hold new elections and claimed that Netanyahu was one of the “obstacles to peace.” Republican lawmakers, including Johnson and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-LA), rebuked Schumer over the remarks. During his appearance on “Mike & McCarty” on 710 KEEL in Shreveport, Johnson said he thinks it is “important and historic” for Netanyahu to give Congress a “bird’s eye view” of what is going on in Israel and to “address” some of the criticism regarding the war. “I’m a big supporter of Israel, as everybody knows, because I think we have many reasons and obligations to do that. But Chuck Schumer has been trying to play both sides,” Johnson said. “I mean, the Biden administration not only has projected weakness on the world stage and gotten us into all these hot wars, but they’ve also been trying to appease Iran and criticize Israel,” he continued. “Schumer was trying to play politics with it.”

Ohio Billionaire To Take Deep Sea Submersible To Titanic To Prove It’s Safe After OceanGate Implosion

An Ohio billionaire is planning on taking a deep sea submersible to the bottom of the ocean floor in the northern Atlantic to tour the wreckage of the Titanic just one year after another submersible imploded at the site. Real estate investor Larry Connor said that he will be making the voyage in a two-person submersible — more than 12,000 feet deep — with Triton Submarines co-founder Patrick Lahey. Lahey, speaking about Connor, told The Wall Street Journal: “We had a client, a wonderful man. He called me up and said, ‘You know, what we need to do is build a sub that can dive to [Titanic-level depths] repeatedly and safely and demonstrate to the world that you guys can do that, and that Titan was a contraption.'” Connor told the Journal that he wants to “show people worldwide that while the ocean is extremely powerful, it can be wonderful and enjoyable and really kind of life-changing if you go about it the right way.” “Patrick has been thinking about and designing this for over a decade,” Connor continued. “But we didn’t have the materials and technology. You couldn’t have built this sub five years ago.” The two will make the journey in a $20 million submersible, the Triton 4000/2 Abyssal Explorer, which can dive to a depth of 4,000 meters. The Titanic rests at the 3,800 meters below the ocean’s surface. Last June, a submersible from OceanGate imploded on its way to the bottom of the ocean floor to view the Titanic. All five people on board — including OceanGate’s CEO, Stockton Rush — were killed within a fraction of second due to the extreme pressures that exist at that depth. David Lochridge, a submersible pilot and engineer who had served in Great Britain’s Royal Navy and worked all over the world, had expressed reservations about the design and build of OceanGate’s submersible, but his concerns were reportedly dismissed. He found numerous problems with the vessel, including the carbon-fiber hull having “very visible signs of delamination and porosity,” the glue for ballast bags coming off, sealing faces with errant plunge holes, and O-ring grooves whose design was not standard, among many others. When Lochridge brought up his concerns at a company meeting, he was fired. “I would consider myself pretty ballsy when it comes to doing things that are dangerous, but that sub is an accident waiting to happen,” Lochridge wrote to Rob McCallum, who co-founded a company called Eyos Expeditions and had taken tourists to the Titanic years before. “There’s no way on earth you could have paid me to dive the thing. … I don’t want to be seen as a Tattle tale but I’m so worried he kills himself and others in the quest to boost his ego.” CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP OceanGate’s director of finance and administration said in the interview that she could not work for Rush, and so she quit as soon as she found another job. “I could not work for Stockton,” she said, claiming that he had asked her to take over as chief submersible pilot. “I did not trust him. It freaked me out that he would want me to be head pilot, since my background is in accounting.” She noted that several of the engineers for the company were in their late teens and early twenties.
