Activists furious that people are driving on the murals they painted on streets where cars go

US–LGBTQ+ activists around the country are livid after it has become apparent that people are driving over the murals they painted on the public street where cars go. These colorful and eye-catching murals, which feature a range of designs and symbols representing the LGBTQ+ community, have been popping up in cities across the US in recent years. Activists say that these murals are an important way to celebrate and promote visibility for the LGBTQ+ community, and to create a sense of pride and belonging for those who often feel marginalized and excluded. But now, it seems that the very people who were meant to be uplifted by these murals are being subjected to a new form of hate crime: people driving their cars over the murals, damaging the artwork and sending a message of intolerance and bigotry. “I can’t believe that people would stoop so low as to literally drive their dirty tires over the beautiful murals we painted on a public street. It’s really a hate crime worse than any we’ve faced,” super gay mural designer and volunteer Richard N. Butts said. Butts and other activists say that the damage caused by these drivers is not just a physical assault on the murals themselves, but a symbolic attack on the entire LGBTQ+ community. “These bigots just come here and drive all over our mural as if this is some kind of Nazi autobahn,” Butts said. “It’s so hateful. I just can’t imagine what kind of world where people would drive on our street monuments like this. I mean what kind of monsters would do this?” Despite the challenges they face, activists remain determined to continue their work and to fight back against the forces of hate and intolerance. They say that the murals are an important symbol of hope and solidarity, and that they will not be deterred by those who seek to destroy them. “We will not be silenced,” said Butts. “We will continue to create these beautiful murals and to stand up for our community, no matter what. And we will never forget the sacrifices made by those who came before us, and who fought so bravely for the rights and freedoms we enjoy today.” Originally published June 18, 2021. Candace Cameron Bure Left LA Because Her Family Felt Unsafe

Although she is still as much a familiar face in Hollywood as she was in the ‘90s, Candace Cameron Bure has opted to completely vacate LA. The Full House alum cited safety concerns as the driving force behind her exodus. Other actors associated with the ABC sitcom have also faced security risks due, in some way, to Hollywood. Bure’s former co-stars needed security teams after they received so many death threats. Bure, a mother of three, wants to keep her family away from the dangers she has continued to see in the Golden State. Candace Cameron Bure describes feeling unsafe in LA Bure relocated in part because of her family and a desire to try new things / Instagram 48-year-old Bure shares children Lev, Natasha, and Maksim with her husband of 28 years, Valeri Bure. As of March 2024, Bure’s three children have moved out, but the environment in LA still had her worried for herself and her loved ones. RELATED: Candace Cameron Bure’s Daughter, Natasha, Is The Latest Star To Leave Hollywood Behind Still, it’s a relocation that took some of her fans by surprise, and Bure recently came forward to explain the situation, which was influenced in many ways by her family. “Many of you have asked, ‘Did you move?’ Yes,” she shared on an Instagram Story from last spring. “Why?’ Mostly for security reasons. Also, family dynamics have changed. The kids don’t live in Los Angeles anymore. Mama will go where they go! I travel a lot. The seasons of life.” What’s necessary isn’t always easy Candace Cameron Bure no longer felt safe in LA with strangers approaching her house / David Astorga / ©Hallmark Channel / Courtesy Everett Collection To an extent, Bure leaving LA was a chance for growth, as the actress explained that she wanted to “get out of my comfort zone and try something new.” She added, “I want to meet new people. I want to learn lessons, I want to grow and I feel like where I am right now in my life, this is like the perfect opportunity to go and get out of my comfort zone and go do something that is different and that I normally wouldn’t do.” There was also a bit of necessity inspiring the move from LA, Bure also confirmed. REAL MURDERS: AN AURORA TEAGARDEN MYSTERY, Candace Cameron Bure, 2015. ph: Eike Schroter/© The Hallmark Channel /Courtesy Everett Collection “We didn’t feel safe anymore,” explained Bure in April. “And that was the biggest reason that we moved.” She further revealed, “Not everyone in Hollywood lives behind guard gates, and we weren’t behind gates. It’s amazing what people feel they can do. And wanting to be a part of your life in some way. Some of it is innocent, some of it wasn’t. But it’s quite unnerving when you’re just trying to be a person and live life, and you don’t know what’s around the corner.” Indeed, her Full House co-stars know a thing or two about that, as at one point John Stamos and Jodie Sweetin, who played Jesse Katsapolis and Stephanie Tanner respectively, received death threats from viewers. They also needed a security team that thwarted some truly harrowing near misses. Mostly, Bure’s worries came from people causing problems with “cameras and hiding, and people just coming up to our door.” Some of her Full House co-stars also experienced feeling unsafe while filming / © ABC /Courtesy Everett Collection RELATED: Danica McKellar Shares How Candace Cameron Bure Introduced Her To Her Faith Click for next Article The post Candace Cameron Bure Left LA Because Her Family Felt Unsafe appeared first on DoYouRemember? - The Home of Nostalgia.
