A former Alaska Airlines flight attendant has started a GoFundMe following the termination of her employment. Nelle Diala said she was “wrongfully fired” from her “dream job” after making a video of herself twerking in the aisles of an empty plane and uploading it to TikTok. The flight attendant said she was let go for violating the airlines’ social media policy. Diala defended her actions, saying she didn’t post which airline she worked for and that the clip was “harmless.” “I never thought a single moment would cost me everything,” the former Alaska Airlines employees wrote in the GoFundMe description. “I worked as a flight attendant for Alaska Airlines for over six months. In between those 6 months both of my English bulldogs died unexpectedly, my relationship was rocky because of the time I spent away, but I loved my job—meeting new people, seeing the world, and creating a safe, welcoming environment for passengers. It wasn’t always easy, but I was proud of what I did,” she said. She continued, “One day, during a layover, I posted a lighthearted video on my personal social media account. It was a harmless clip that was recorded at 6 am while waiting 2 hours for pilots. No discussion, no chance to defend myself—and no chance for a thorough and proper investigation,” she went on. “Losing my job was devastating. I’ve always been careful about what I share online, and I never thought this video, which didn’t even mention the airline by name, would cost me my career. Now, I am trying to figure out how to move forward.” Diala went on that she “learned” from her mistakes and encouraged people to donate to her campaign. As of Thursday afternoon, she had raised $1,700 of her $12,000 goal. The video is pinned to the top of Diala’s TikTok page with the caption, “Cant even be yourself anymore, without the world being so sensitive. Whats wrong with a little twerk before work, people act like they never did that before.” She also included the hashtag “discriminationisreal.”
