Physicists Propose Cyclic Universe Model Challenging the Big Bang Theory

Physicists Propose Cyclic Universe Model Challenging the Big Bang Theory

A team of physicists has developed a new cosmological model suggesting that the universe did not begin with the Big Bang followed by cosmic inflation. Instead, they propose that the universe has undergone continuous cycles of compression and expansion, indicating an era preceding these well-known events. This model, published in the Journal of Cosmology and Astroparticle Physics, aims to resolve several cosmic mysteries, including the nature of dark matter and the longstanding problem of the universe’s flatness. One of the perplexing issues in cosmology is why the universe appears flat. The geometry of the universe is determined by its matter density. If the density exceeds a critical value, space is closed and positively curved, resembling a sphere’s surface. If it’s less, space is open and negatively curved, like a saddle. When the density equals the critical value, the universe is flat and infinite, akin to a sheet of paper. Observations indicate that the current matter density is very close to this critical density, implying a flat universe. This flatness poses a challenge to the traditional Big Bang model. If the universe started from a hot, dense state above the critical density, it’s unclear why it would evolve into a flat geometry. The new cyclic model addresses this by suggesting that the universe repeatedly transitions between phases of complete compression into a hot, super-dense singularity and subsequent expansion. According to the physicists, this cyclical process not only explains the universe’s flatness but also aligns with measurements of the cosmic microwave background radiation—the afterglow of the Big Bang. They also hypothesize that during the brief periods between these cosmic phases, primordial black holes formed from extremely dense matter. These tiny black holes, with masses comparable to asteroids, could constitute dark matter, providing a solution to another cosmic enigma. Furthermore, the model predicts that these minuscule black holes could generate gravitational waves—ripples in the fabric of space-time—that might be detectable with current or future technology. While this cyclic universe model offers intriguing solutions to existing cosmological problems, it remains hypothetical. Additional evidence is required to validate its conclusions. For now, the Big Bang theory continues to be the predominant explanation in cosmology. Exclusive: Police catch street artist Sabo; court date looms

Breathe easy, citizens — the Aurora, Colorado, police have got their man. No word on what's going on with the violent Venezuelan gang members who have taken over an entire apartment complex, but the lone artist who called attention to this crisis has been captured. A little more than a week ago, residents of the small city outside Denver awoke to a frightening and confusing sight. There, affixed to a pole, was a yellow "crossing" sign with the legend "Caution: Kamala's Illegals." Above it, another sign: "Blacks must sit at the back of the bus / Kamala's migrants sit in the front." Unsavoryagents.com This was not an isolated occurrence. Far from it. Copies of the signs — as many as six, according to some reports — had been placed at various intervals over a few city blocks. The craftsmanship was fiendishly skilled, designed to fool passersby into mistaking these placards for official municipal issue, at least for those first few innocent seconds before fully registering the horror: These were no street signs. These were hate signs. The evidence pointed to one man: the enigmatic street artist Sabo. Authorities launched a massive manhunt. Thursday, officers from both the Aurora and Denver police departments staged a daring daylight raid of Sabo's Aurora residence, knocking on the door and handing him a ticket for violating Denver municipal code 3-1, "posting on public/private property." They declined to press any hate crime charges. "I guess they have the resources to send both departments after me," Sabo told Align. "I have a court date," he added. Those who feel moved by Sabo's plight no doubt wonder how they can help. Loot a Target? Set a garbage truck on fire? Cordon off the local playground and declare it an autonomous zone? All great ideas, but Sabo respectfully requests that you stand down and stand by. However, donations are always appreciated. Or you could purchase one of Sabo's fine, affordable protest artworks. Just be careful where you display it.

iPhone 16 Pro camera leak reveals 9 new features ahead of Apple’s launch event

The iPhone 16 is just around the corner. After a last-minute leak revealed everything Apple is expected to announce at the Monday keynote, 9to5Mac's Filipe Espósito reveals the company's plans for the iPhone 16 Pro camera. People familiar with the matter told the journalist that several changes are coming to the iPhone 16 Pro camera. Some of them have already been rumored, and others are brand-new information that Apple was likely saving for the keynote. 4K 120 fps recording: According to this iPhone 16 Pro camera leak, the iPhone will be able to shoot 4K at 120 fps. The iPhone 15 Pro can shoot 4K at 60 fps; 4K 120 fps recording with ProRes 4K: When connected to external storage, users will also be able to shoot ProRes 4K at 120fps; QuickTake upgrade: Apple might upgrade QuickTake from 1080p to 4K. This feature allows users to shoot video without switching out of the default photo mode; New Photographic Styles: First available with the iPhone 13 Pro, Apple might give it another chance with new Photographic Styles with "better machine learning to preserve skin tones;" Camera Button: Internally, Apple calls the long-rumored Capture Button the Camera Button. Users will be able to press it to open and shoot inside the Camera app, which could let them remove the Camera toggle from the Lock Screen for another option; Spatial Photos support: As visionOS 2 will bring Spatial Photos support to Apple Vision Pro, it seems iPhone 16 Pro users will be able to take those photos, in addition to the current Spatial Video option; JPEG-XL support: 9to5Mac reveals that Apple might support the JPEG-XL format for "capturing lossy and lossless photos;" Pause and resuming record in the Camera app: According to the iPhone 16 Pro camera leak, users will be able to pause and resume a record inside the Camera app, a first for iPhone users; Wind removal: Apple is working on new features to remove wind noise from videos. Lastly, Espósito discovered that Apple tested 8K recording with the iPhone 16 Pro. However, it's unclear if Apple will add this feature, as zooming in would drop the quality to 4K. The journalist hints that this function could be saved for next year's iPhone 17, when all three main cameras will have a 48MP resolution Don't Miss: Last-minute leak reveals everything Apple will announce at the iPhone 16 event The post iPhone 16 Pro camera leak reveals 9 new features ahead of Apple’s launch event appeared first on BGR. Satechi unveils Find My-enabled passport cover and new multi-port adapters

As IFA 2024 kicks off, Satechi unveils some new accessories for Apple users. The most interesting one is a vegan-leather passport cover with Find My capabilities. Similar to Twelve South's idea of adding tracking capabilities to its power brick, Satechi wants to help international travelers have peace of mind when traveling abroad. This vegan-leather passport cover offers a passport holder, four card slots, wireless charging capability with a five-month battery life, Bluetooth 5.2, and RFID protection. Satechi says this new passport cover can "secure important documents and cards while conveniently keeping them safely within reach thanks to the integrated Find My technology." The company explains that people who misplace their passports can ping the passport cover from the Find My app with audible locating with step-by-step directions. Users need to charge their passport cover every five months, but they can do that by placing it on a Qi, Qi2, or MagSafe wireless charger, such as BGR's favorite 3-in-1 wireless charging stand. Image source: Satechi To minimize its carbon footprint, Satechi's vegan-leather passport cover features a rechargeable battery with a longer lifespan than traditional batteries.
