Over the last week, the internet has been buzzing over Briley King’s cover of “The Night The Lights Went Out In Georgia.” Some of you readers might be familiar with Briley King for her fashion-forward social media presence, her making fun of internet trolls calling her a gold digger, or you might be familiar with her vocal ability as well. It only makes sense that two incredibly talented people end up together. Just like Chris and Morgane Stapleton, Marcus and Briley King are a musical powerhouse duo. Given that the musical space is where Marcus shines, Briley lets him have that spotlight, but she, too, is quite the songbird. In fact, Briley has supported Marcus in the studio, providing backup vocals for songs like “Delilah.” And if you’re a true fan of Marcus King, then you’ve probably seen the magic these two create on stage together. Briley joins Marcus on stage quite a bit these days, and it is incredible. Backstage during the Marcus King Band Family Reunion, Briley had some fun with the Marcus King Band and delivered a stellar unplugged version of the tune, showcasing her natural talent by laying down a stellar cover of Vicki Lawrence’s “The Night The Lights Went Out In Georgia.” Side note: Yes, Reba made this song a staple in her catalog in 1991; however, the tune was initially recorded by Vicki Lawrence in 1973. Such a great duo. Post Malone has been on the road for his F-1 Trillion tour for much of this year, playing tons of shows in the United States, in addition to making a European trek this fall as well. He of course released his debut country album in 2024, which featured country stars like Lainey Wilson, Luke Combs, Morgan Wallen, Billy Strings, and of course, the great Chris Stapleton. Stapleton was featured on a song called “California Sober,” which was written by Post and Chris alongside Louis Bell, Ryan Vojtesak and Mark Holman. It has a really cool Southern rock feel to it, and to state what is extremely obvious, Stapleton’s soulful voice and powerful delivery just fits it so well. Post can hold his own vocally too, clearly, and so they make a really great team and it was easily one of the standouts from the original record. While I was partial to the deluxe edition Post put out of just solo songs that felt decidedly more country in terms of the classic inspirations he’s talked about in the years leading up to his jump into country, “California Sober” was easily one of the standouts from the entire tracklist of features, per the usual. And during a stop in Paris, France at at Paris La Défense Arena during a show as part of Post’s European leg, he surprised the crowd by bringing Stapleton out to perform their duet live, introducing him by saying: “Chris, you’re one handsome son of a b***. Thanks so much for coming out. Ladies and gentlemen, one last time for the mother******* legend, Chris Stapleton.” What an introduction… They of course nailed it, and I’m sure the Paris crowd was thrilled with a surprise guest of this caliber.
