Diversity, equity, and inclusion measures have created their fair share of controversy. While some claim that DEI is “designed to make people of various backgrounds feel welcome” in the workplace, there have been numerous instances in which the opposite seems to be the case. In fact, countless experts have exposed DEI as none other than a “well-funded Marxist movement.” Far from promoting “inclusion,” DEI has been criticized as both excluding and destroying anything that impedes its radical agenda. And there are several examples. As The Washington Stand reported in August 2023, NASCAR was caught in the act of banning white applicants from its “diversity Internship.” Just last month, a report revealed that Pentagon schools were guilty of pushing “DEI propaganda on the children of armed service members stationed abroad.” But perhaps most notable are the cries about how DEI is hurting the U.S. military. DoD Schools for RadicalsDownload On last Friday’s episode of “Washington Watch,” Matt Lohmeier, executive vice president of Stand Together Against Racism and Radicalism in the Services (STARRS), discussed the impact DEI has had on the U.S. military. “There is a growing influence, and it’s a negative influence, in the Defense Department ever since [the Biden] administration came to office.” Lohmeier explained how the Trump administration, “through executive order, abandoned altogether and made illegal diversity, equity, and inclusion trainings involving critical race theory vocabulary.” And yet, when President Joe Biden stepped in, all of the removed DEI programs were brought back “with a bang.” According to Lohmeier, this can’t be surprising when people such as Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Mark Milley, and current Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Gen. Charles Brown all consider themselves “a friend to these initiatives.” He added, “All of these senior leaders buy into this policy that’s been established by this administration, and it has found its way into every branch of the military, in all of the military workplaces, to a lesser or a greater degree.” And now, Lohmeier pointed out, DEI has been included “across all of the [military] service academies.” Lohmeier, who served as a lieutenant colonel in the Air Force and Space Force, described some of what the DEI indoctrination entails, including “training slides … at the Air Force Academy saying that they shouldn’t be using terms such as ‘mom and dad.’” And this, he added, “is absurd to the American mind and to your common American.” Not only is it absurd, Lohmeier went on to say, but it’s “offensive to these service members who signed up thinking that they were doing a noble service to their country and getting trained to be leaders and future officers in the United States military, to be bombarded with this propaganda and rhetoric that is so divisive.” But beyond the damage pertaining to U.S. troops, Lohmeier explained that DEI is also “hurting our recruiting and retention efforts, as everyone has seen.” And considering the numerous ways DEI and the current administration have decreased military readiness, Lohmeier expressed his opinion that “this presidential election … is as critical of an election as we’ve ever had before.” The American people know that every aspect of this [administration] has been highly politicized, and we need to remove that highly politicized influence from the uniformed services so our troops can be united once again. Guest host and former Rep. Jody Hice, R-Ga., agreed, stating it’s “one thing for corporations to focus on DEI and lose profits and lose customers. But it is an entirely different matter when the military focuses on DEI,” because “the consequences there are much more significant than just losing customers or profit.” It involves the security of the country. Lohmeier agreed, adding that this same concept is true in the medical field. “[T]he operating room is a great example,” he said. “You don’t want the medical industry … de-emphasizing merit and getting a surgeon in there based on the color of their skin or their ethnicity or their religious background.” Not only is that illegal, as he stated, but it’s “all the more so in the United States military, where lethality matters [and] where a very particular mission set matters” that affects a nation. He continued, “You don’t want to de-emphasize merit and sacrifice merit for the purpose of establishing … or pursuing race quotas.” Lohmeier noted, “[T]here is a minority … of the population that does, in fact, buy into this idea that diversity means pursuing race quotas.” But “when you do that in the military, you lose lethality.” And yet, it seems that as the ideology behind DEI initiatives becomes more blatant, the pushback against it has grown stronger as well. Considering that, Hice asked, is it possible the tide is turning on DEI? Lohmeier replied, “I’m encouraged some days of the week when I see news headlines saying or suggesting that certain businesses or corporations are abandoning their DEI initiatives.” Or, at the very least, he added, “backing off from aggressively pursuing those initiatives.” However, Lohmeier acknowledged, “[E]very time I get encouraged [when] it seems like one or two institutions have backed away from it … two or three more have just doubled down their efforts and dug in their heels even more aggressively.” He concluded, “[T]here’s no doubt … there continues to be a fracturing influence of diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives, even through corporate America.” But by challenging it more and more, Lohmeier thinks there is hope for the future. New York City plans to spend $4.75 billion on resources for illegal immigrants over the next year, according to the mayor’s office. The city is on track to spend nearly $10 billion on illegal aliens over three years. The Big Apple’s “sanctuary city” laws protect many illegal aliens from deportation, making the city a top destination for illegal aliens after they cross the southern border into the U.S. New York Mayor Eric Adams‘ budget office forecasts serving 36,939 illegal immigrant households to the tune of an average of $352 per night in the city government’s fiscal year 2025, which runs from July 1 through next June 30. Multiply the estimated costs of illegal alien households by the average nightly cost, multiply that by 365, and the total is $4.75 billion, according to the mayor’s Office of Management and Budget.  In May, New York City announced an executive budget totaling $111.62 billion for fiscal year 2025. Adams, a Democrat, said about 212,000 illegal aliens have arrived in New York City in recent years, and he advocates for a clear path for these migrants to attain work in the U.S.  “New York’s migrant crisis was an entirely foreseeable consequence of Biden releasing or paroling millions of indigent, inadmissible aliens in a few short years,” Simon Hankinson, a senior research fellow in The Heritage Foundation’s Border Security and Immigration Center, told The Daily Signal. “I would love to hear [Vice President Kamala] Harris’ policy ideas on this for 2024, but I don’t see anything here on her website,” Hankinson said. New York City reported spending $3.79 billion on the illegal immigration crisis during fiscal 2024, which ended June 30. Over $3 billion of that total went into two buckets of spending: “house, rent, initial outfitting” and “services and supplies.” The city spent the remaining $674 million on food, medical, “IT, administrative costs, and other.”  In addition to tent communities, the city has used hotels and other facilities to house illegal aliens. When that number is added to what was spent in fiscal 2024 and what is budgeted for fiscal 2025, the crisis will have cost the Big Apple nearly $10 billion by next June 30. The vice president replaced Biden at the top of the ticket when he stepped aside last month. In the interview, he said his message will be about more than illegal immigration but added that he does think “we have to secure our border and come up with a real plan of allowing people to be disseminated throughout the entire country [to alleviate] where we have population problems.” “But at the heart of it is allowing people to work,” Adams said. The Adams administration “has mobilized an all-of-city response that includes the work of more than 10 agencies across five service categories,” the mayor’s budget office announced.  Despite resources allocated to address the illegal immigration crisis in New York, Adams said in the interview, “I’m not prioritizing migrants over New Yorkers.” “Migrants are living in tents with outside facilities,” the mayor said. “We have broke record on the amount of affordable housing we built for New Yorkers.”  The federal government allocated over $195 million to New York City to address the crisis of illegal immigration, but the city hasn’t received all the funding.  A spokesperson for the mayor’s office told The Daily Signal that city officials “continue to ask for more help from our federal partners, including a decompression strategy that spreads migrants out across the country, more funding, and expanded work authorizations so that every asylum-seeker can achieve the American dream.” Since the start of the Biden-Harris administration in January 2021, U.S. Customs and Border Protection has reported encountering about 10 million illegal aliens on America’s borders and paroling as many as 85% of them into the U.S. The post NYC on Track to Spend $10 Billion on Illegal Aliens Over 3 Years appeared first on The Daily Signal.

FIRST ON THE DAILY SIGNAL—A Los Angeles County school district offers an ethnic studies course covering the “intersectionality” of “identity markers” such as race, gender, and sexual orientation. “Ethnic Studies aims to educate students on social justice themes related to ethnicity, identity, and the historical element that is the common denominator, while providing students with a democratic toolkit intended to support student’s project-based learning needs,” according to a course overview obtained through a public records request by the Center for American Liberty and shared with The Daily Signal. The class, offered to seniors at Clark Magnet High School in the Glendale Unified School District, encourages “social activism” by “building on the district’s social justice standards while incorporating the new history social science framework.” California Assembly Bill 101 made ethnic studies a high school graduation requirement in 2021. Mark Trammell, executive director of the Center for American Liberty, the nonprofit group that uncovered the ethnic studies curriculum, said the class is part of the Left’s ongoing efforts to insert critical race theory into public education. “Taxpayer-funded schools are being systematically transformed into far-left social justice indoctrination facilities,” Trammell said. “Students deserve better. They deserve to be inspired to think independently, not to be trained to regurgitate leftist pablum.” In September 2022, the district assembled a committee of teachers of all grades to create the ethnic studies course outline. A staff member, whose name was redacted from the document, suggested in an email to colleagues that the themes of the ethnic studies course would not be unfamiliar to Glendale students. “The goal would be to create a high school class that expands on what they learn in the lower grades,” the staff member said. Internal emails between staff members on Sept. 15, 2022, discuss the ethnic studies course. (The Center for American Liberty) Some staff members underwent ethnic studies training with the Los Angeles County Office of Education to prepare to create the course curriculum, according to the internal emails. The L.A. County Office of Education provides a sample ethnic studies curriculum defining ethnic studies as “the interdisciplinary study of race, ethnicity, and Indigeneity, with an emphasis on the experiences of people of color in the United States.” Students in the Clark Magnet High School class are taught the importance of observing their classmates’ gender identity. In the “Identity” unit, students learn that “respect means getting it right” when it comes to names and pronouns. In March 2023, the district discussed requiring annual professional development on advocating for LGBTQ students. According to internal emails, staff members were not voluntarily showing up to LGBTQ trainings, so the district needed to require them to do so, with the goal of “fostering inclusive classrooms and LGBTQIA+ awareness as well as inclusive sexual health professional development for 9th grade health teachers.” A Glendale Unified School District staff member, whose name was redacted, sent an email to other staff members on March 30, 2023. (The Center for American Liberty) Other aspects of the unit include “identity charts,” “ethnocentrism,” “understanding intersectionality,” and “LGBTQ Introduction and historical context.” The African American unit covers the Black Lives Matter movement and “stereotypes and prejudice.” The class requires students to do a social media campaign to bring attention to a social justice issue. “Students will have opportunities to analyze social change over time, learn about varied student populations, while exploring new perspectives in creative, hands-on projects,” the course description says. Perhaps NBC was too busy freaking out over Senator and vice presidential nominee J.D. Vance promoting the benefits of children having a relationship with their grandparents. But it makes sense for NBC to want to ignore the school now. As NewsBusters reported in April, NBC tried to discredit the Jewish victims at the school, they ignored the blood thirsty rant against Jews by the encampment’s leader, and they ignored the terrorists praising Hamas with “glory to our martyrs.” While Good Morning America did cover Shafik’s resignation, co-anchor Linsey Davis sped through it in 18 seconds: But first, the top headlines we’re following right now. Media pundits have clutched their pearls at Vice President Kamala Harris's campaign for deceitfully editing news headlines in Google ads. But MRC Free Speech America Vice President Dan Schneider said the scandal was predictable. In a Wednesday interview on Fox Business’s The Evening Edit, Schneider said this scandal is in line with the rules-for-thee-but-not-for-me mantra of the Biden-Harris administration’s fight against misinformation. “This is all part of her strategy,” he told Fox Business anchor Elizabeth MacDonald. “The Kamala Harris campaign has made one thing clear, that news that is accurately reflective of her views has to be deemed misinformation, but her deceptive ads are supposed to be honored because they actually help her,” Schneider stated. Schneider’s comments stem from information first discovered by AllSides, and later picked up by Axios, which busted the Harris-Walz presidential campaign for running Google ads news reports with fictitious headlines. Harris’s ultimate goal? Whitewashing her reputation while tucking away from the leftist-friendly media. “She is, obviously, not speaking to reporters,” Schneider said, referring to Harris not holding a press conference since Biden dropped out of the race and endorsed her (25 days, to be specific).  Schneider further expanded, “She does not want to speak to the American voter through the media, but she is very creative and running a very effective ad campaign. And she's running micro-targeted ads to segments of the voting population. And that is why she has really picked up in the polls.” The approval pick-up is triggered by what Schneider called a “fraud on the American voter.” He warned, however, that “we can't merely complain” as Big Tech platforms are putting their thumbs on the scale ahead of the election.  In remarks to Axios, Google reportedly said Harris’s cunningly edited ads did not violate its terms of service. They did this because it “helps her,” Schneider declared. Harris’s plan to run fake headlines as Google ads followed the release of a bombshell Media Research Center/McLaughlin & Associates poll showing that between 71 and 86 percent of Democrat and Independent voters either had no knowledge of the most radical positions previously endorsed by the vice president or were unsure. Fox News anchor and comedian Greg Gutfeld juxtaposed the deceitful Google ads with the MRC polls to explain how Harris plans to keep Americans in the dark about her policies. The policies include allowing death row inmates to vote, endorsing Medicare-for-all, upending ICE and co-sponsoring the Green New Deal. “According to an MRC poll, over 70% of Democrats aren't familiar with Harris's radical policies—and that's a win for Harris. But it's got to be weird to be happy when fewer people know about your beliefs: ‘They don't think I'm as crazy as I really am,’” he said on the Wednesday installment of The Five. “If you're grateful that you're hiding them from the public, you know, why not just listen to the public and have to, like, worry about what you said before? It’s like a cheating husband: ‘What did I say before? I’ve gotta keep lying.’ No, why don't you just listen to the people?” Conservatives are under attack.
