Former President Donald Trump posted on X on Monday morning for the first time since last August as he’s set to be interviewed by X owner Elon Musk on Monday night. Trump’s newest X post features a two-minute, thirty-second campaign video that includes clips from his 2016 election victory, his first term in office, and his 2024 campaign. The Monday X post marks Trump’s second on the platform since he was locked out of his account on January 6, 2021, by the regime of what was then Twitter. The Republican presidential nominee announced his interview with Musk last week, writing, “ON MONDAY NIGHT I’LL BE DOING A MAJOR INTERVIEW WITH ELON MUSK — Details to follow!” The interview will stream live on X beginning at 8:00 p.m. ET. On Sunday, Musk provided more details about the interview with Trump, writing, “This is unscripted with no limits on subject matter, so should be highly entertaining! Musk previously supported Democrats Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden in their races against Trump in 2016 and 2020. During Trump’s first few months in office, Musk served on a White House business advisory board but stepped down after Trump pulled the U.S. out of the Paris Climate Accord. Muks argued at the time, “Climate change is real. Leaving Paris is not good for America or the world.” Recently, Musk has been supportive of Trump’s policies on immigration and the economy as he has grown increasingly critical of the Democratic Party and its leftist agenda. Trump and his running mate, Sen. JD Vance (R-OH), have made numerous media appearances over the past week, while Democratic nominee Kamala Harris and her VP pick, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, have been blasted for seemingly avoiding reporters while on their campaign tour. Trump held an hour-long press conference at his Mar-a-Lago estate last Thursday, but Harris’ time taking questions from reporters has been limited, and she has yet to hold a press conference since taking over for President Joe Biden as the Democratic nominee.

The House task force investigating the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump began its work on Monday by requesting documents and briefings from top Justice Department and Homeland Security officials.  Task force chair Mike Kelly (R-PA) and ranking member Jason Crow (D-CO) sent letters to Attorney General Merrick Garland, FBI Director Christopher Wray, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, and Acting Secret Service Director Ronald Rowe demanding all documents related to the assassination attempt. They requested that the departments set up briefings with the task force by August 16 to coordinate the investigation.  The letters, obtained by Punch Bowl News, request that the officials “produce documents and information directly to the Task Force from this point forward, including any documents and information that are in process in response to pending requests.” The task force was established last month with seven Republicans and six Democrats. Several committees in both the House and Senate have already begun looking into the attack that left Trump and two of his supporters injured and one rally attendee dead.  In addition to Kelly, other Republican lawmakers on the task force include Homeland Security Chairman Mark Green (R-TN) and Reps. David Joyce (R-OH), Laurel Lee (R-FL), Michael Waltz (R-FL), Clay Higgins (R-LA),  Pat Fallon (TX). Democrats include Reps. Madeleine Dean (D-PA), Chrissy Houlahan (D-PA), Glenn Ivey (D-MD), and Jared Moskowitz (D-FL). His office said that the panel’s goals are to “understand what went wrong on the day of the attempted assassination,” “ensure accountability,” and “prevent such an agency failure from ever happening again.” There are still questions about who was responsible for the security failures at the July 13 Trump rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
