An NFL Draft prospect is going viral for all the wrong reasons at this year’s NFL Combine in Indianapolis. Texas Tech Safety Tyler Owens‚ who draft experts believe will be the fastest player at the event‚ declared during a media event that he does not believe in outer space. “I don’t believe in space‚” Owens said in a video posted on X by Bleacher Report’s Brent Sobleski. “I think we’re alone right now. I don’t think there’s other planets and other stuff like that.” Owens also said that he thinks there may be credibility to arguments made by flat earthers — people who believe that the earth is flat and is not a sphere. “I thought I used to believe in the heliocentric thing where we used to revolve around the sun and stuff‚” Owens continued. “But then I started seeing flat earth stuff and I was like‚ this is kind of interesting. Calls are growing in Sacramento for a criminal investigation to be launched into California Democrat Governor Gavin Newsom after an explosive story published this week said that Newsom created an unusual special carveout in a piece of legislation that benefited one of his top donors. Bloomberg News reported that billionaire Greg Flynn was getting a “new boost” after his chain of Panera Bread locations were exempted from a new law that forces fast food restaurants to increase their minimum wage from $16 to $20 per hour. Flynn is the largest “restaurant franchisee in the US‚ if not the world‚” the report added. Panera Bread was spared from the law because it offered “unusual exemption for chains that bake bread and sell it as a standalone item.” The report states that Newsom “pushed for that break.” The report showed the numerous connections that the two men have‚ including going to the same high school‚ Flynn donating significant sums of money to Newsom’s political campaigns‚ Flynn allegedly bragging about his easy access to Newsom‚ and Flynn buying a resort managed by a company that Newsom owned. Flynn owns thousands of restaurants‚ including Applebee’s‚ Pizza Hut‚ Taco Bell‚ Wendy’s‚ Panera Bread‚ and more. The only restaurants he owns in California are Applebee’s — which is exempt from the law because it’s not a fast food restaurant — and Panera Bread. California Assembly Republican Leader James Gallagher responded to the report on X: “Can any franchisee get an exemption from the $20 minimum wage law or do they need to donate more than $150k to Newsom first? House Homeland Security Committee Chair Mark Green (R-TN) announced this week that he is reversing his decision to retire after receiving calls from former President Donald Trump and others. One of several wildfires raging in the Texas Panhandle has grown to become the largest in state history. The Smokehouse Creek fire has been burning since Monday and emergency crews have made little progress in containing it. It has so far torched over 1 million acres of land in Texas‚ the most by a wildfire in the history of the state‚ and 31‚500 acres in Oklahoma‚ according to CNN. The Smokehouse Creek fire is just one of several that have ripped through Texas cattle country this week. Two people have died so far in the fires. Ranchers have lost thousands of livestock with many more likely to be euthanized. Many homes and other buildings have been lost to the flames‚ as well. The owners of the historic Turkey Track ranch in Texas estimate that it has lost at least 80% of its land to the wildfires. “The loss of livestock‚ crops‚ and wildlife‚ as well as ranch fencing and other infrastructure throughout our property as well as other ranches and homes across the region is‚ we believe‚ unparalleled in our history‚” the ranch said in a statement. The Panhandle is home to roughly 85% of Texas’ cattle herds‚ supporting over 10 million head of livestock‚ state agriculture commissioner Sid Miller told The New York Times. Most of the cattle are kept in feedlots and dairy farms that have been largely unaffected by the wildfires‚ Miller said. “There are millions of cattle out there‚ with some towns comprising more cattle than people‚” Miller told The Wall Street Journal. “The losses could be catastrophic for those counties. Farmers and ranchers are losing everything.” Videos of the Texas wildfires have surfaced on social media. The footage shows miles of land covered in flames and dark smoke. As of Thursday afternoon‚ fire officials said the Smokehouse Fire was just 3% contained. The Smokehouse Creek Fire is now the second largest in Texas state history at over 850‚000 acres.
