Apple slept on watchOS 11’s best new feature

Apple slept on watchOS 11’s best new feature

During the WWDC 2024 keynote, Apple previewed watchOS 11. While the company focused on the new Photos Face, a revamped Smart Stack, and a new Vitals app with Training Load, the best watchOS 11 feature was left unnoticed. Or, at least, it was unnoticed until a Redditor brought it up – and BGR confirmed it. Starting with watchOS 11, the Apple Watch can now detect naps. Isn't it great? With previous watchOS versions, Apple Watch only tracked sleep if Sleep Mode was turned on. However, if you forgot to set Sleep Mode on, Apple wouldn't precisely track your sleep, and you'd lose important information, as the wearable wouldn't take enough respiratory and heart rate measures. That said, even though your metrics would show you were resting, Apple Watch wouldn't account for your sleep as "sleep time." The same is true when you exercise with your Watch on but don't start a workout. When that happens, the wearable will ask you if you're exercising, but if you don't track it, that workout won't have all the insights it would've had. How does nap detection work with watchOS 11 While I'd suggest having at least Do Not Disturb on to avoid possible notifications, nap detection seems to require nothing except taking a nap. For example, last Saturday, I had a quick nap after lunch. I didn't activate Sleep Mode, and once I checked my Sleep tab in the Health app, it had a washed-out graphic with my 31-minute nap. Unfortunately, it doesn't give me much more insight than the period I was sleeping and the possible moments I briefly woke up. At the moment, it's unclear if Apple will keep tweaking this feature as the watchOS 11 beta cycle follows to offer more data. However, even when you don't activate this function, having some kind of sleep tracking is already an improvement. Still, I recommend setting up Sleep Mode if you want all the details. watchOS 11 is expected to launch later this fall, and BGR will continue to provide all the information for this upcoming software update as we learn more about it. Apple Developer Academy adds new AI training curriculum for Apple Intelligence

Today, Apple announced a new core curriculum for Apple Developer Academy worldwide. Starting this fall, students and alumni in Brazil, Indonesia, Italy, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, and the United States will take advantage of AI training classes. According to the company, the curriculum will be provided to thousands of students and alumni across 18 Developer Academies in six countries as the academy continues to increase opportunities for developers, designers, and entrepreneurs looking to embark on careers in the growing iOS app economy and beyond. Interestingly, this announcement comes a week after Cupertino unveiled its Apple Intelligence project, which will power iPhone, iPad, and Mac with on-device and private cloud-based Artificial Intelligence. Apple says this dedicated curriculum on AI joins the academy's program as a "foundational skill, extending essential competencies in coding, professional skill, design, and marketing" while still incorporating Apple's values throughout coursework, encouraging students to design inclusively and making a positive impact in the world. “At Apple, we see coding as a universal language and believe in empowering developers, creators, and entrepreneurs across the world with tools and technologies that will allow them to create phenomenal experiences,” said Susan Prescott, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations. “With the introduction of curriculum dedicated to AI and other new technologies, we’re excited to see what students will build to share with their communities and the world.” Beginning this fall, Apple Developer Academy students will benefit from a custom-built curriculum that teaches them how to build, train, and deploy machine learning models across Apple devices. Apple says courses will include the fundamentals of AI technologies and frameworks, Core ML and its ability to deliver fast performance on Apple devices, and guidance on building and training AI models from the ground up. This course will include the latest Xcode 16 and the APIs introduced during WWDC 2024. Apple has a page explaining more about Developer Academies here. European Expert: Ukraine Funding Akin to Marshall Plan, Vietnam

With rhetoric intensifying commensurate with the battlefield conflict between Russia and Ukraine, some experts compare the pledge for more funding from the U.S. and NATO allies to pages out of history, from the period following World War II to the Vietnam War.

Here’s How Much Elvis Presley Paid For Graceland

Elvis Presley moved from his previous location at Audubon Drive, East Tennessee to Graceland in the spring of 1957. The famous estate was a lonely house, a barn, and nearly 15 acres of land. Elvis got to work on the property, adding more rooms to make it 23. Elvis bought Graceland’s estate for $102,500 and transformed it into a mansion, adding the pink Alabama fieldstone wall erected by Tennessee Fabricating Co. and Memphis’ Dillard Door Co. The doorway also got a makeover featuring ornamental stained-glass peacocks from the Laukhuff Stained Glass Company. Graceland in the ’50s Instagram Elvis ensured that his “man cave” was included by remodeling the basement into a TV room with three TV sets so he could watch multiple commercials at a time. There was also the indoor pool room with an eye-catching table at the center. Contrary to popular thought, Graceland was named by former owners Dr. Thomas Moore and his wife Ruth, who named it after Ruth’s aunt, Grace. RELATED: Priscilla Presley Shares What Living With Elvis Presley At Graceland Was Truly Like Elvis made the famous Jungle Room by adding Tiki furniture, plants, and a natural ambiance, and turned it into a temporary recording studio in 1976 where he worked with RCA’s mobile recording unit. The beautiful estate remains open to all but with the second floor off-limits to the public. Instagram Graceland’s fate Thanks to Elvis’ lover, Priscilla Presley, Graceland began generating revenue after being made available to the public in 1982. The fate of the property, which is currently worth over $5 million, became a cause for concern after Elvis’ only daughter, Lisa Marie Presley, died last year. She allegedly put down the building as collateral for $3.8 million, causing the lending company to demand that the estate be put up for auction. Instagram Thankfully, Lisa Marie Presley’s daughter, Riley Keough, engaged in a legal battle against Naussany Investments & Private Lending to prevent her grandfather’s historical home from being sold. Priscilla also showed her support to protect Graceland right after the feud between herself and Riley over who owns the trust based on Lisa Marie’s will. She eventually conceded and received over $1.4 million in compensation and legal fees.
