Herb Baumeister: One Of America’s Most Prolific Suspected Serial Killers

Herb Baumeister has never been convicted of any murders, since he committed suicide before he could be arrested, but the number of human remains found on his property could make him one of America’s most prolific serial killers. Baumeister was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, on April 7, 1947. Around the time he became an adolescent, he began showing antisocial behavior and was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia and antisocial personality disorder, but was never treated for either. In 1971, he married Julie Saiter and the couple had three children. In May 1988, they purchased a $1 million estate called Fox Hollow Farm, the same year Baumeister founded a successful thrift-store chain in Indianapolis. Six years after purchasing the farm property, Baumeister’s 13-year-old son Erich brought home a human skull, which he said he had found in the woods on the property, according to a 1996 article from People Magazine. Baumeister told Julie that the bones were from a medical school skeleton that once belonged to his late father, a doctor, but didn’t explain what they were doing on the couple’s property. Days later, the bones were gone, and Julie simply assumed that an animal had taken them. Julie would later learn that during the summers, when she was away with the couple’s three children, Baumeister would frequent Indianapolis gay bars – from which multiple men would disappear. It started in June 1980, when the body of a 15-year-old boy was found – the first connected to an American serial killer at the time known only as the I-70 Strangler. The boy, Michael Petree, was a male prostitute who spent time at Indianapolis gay bars – the same ones Baumeister would go to. Ten more bodies wouldn’t be found until August 1991. Police believed that by then, Baumeister was using Fox Hollow Farm to dispose of the bodies. Screenshot: YouTube. In the early 1990s, police were investigating multiple gay men reported missing – who were all of a similar age, height, and weight. In 1994, a man named Tony Harris contacted the Marion County Sheriff’s Department to say he believed a man who frequented the gay bars – who called himself “Brian Smart” – had likely killed his friend Roger Goodlet. Harris based this claim in Smart’s odd interest in Goodlet’s missing person case and his own near-death experience with Smart sometime earlier. Smart was identified as Baumeister, and investigators asked to search the Fox Hollow home and property. Baumeister and Julie refused the search, but in 1996, the couple had divorced, and Julie had become fearful of her husband’s behavior, so she allowed the search to move forward. The first search of the Baumeister property turned up the remains of eleven men, and a warrant was issued for Baumeister’s arrest. One of those victims is Roger Goodlet, whose connection to Tony Harris led to police identifying Baumeister as a potential killer. Before police could arrest him, however, Baumeister fled to Ontario, Canada, and shot himself in the head, leaving behind a suicide note that mentioned his broken marriage and failing business but not the remains.  On December 4, 2022, a new search of Baumeister’s old farm was conducted, and a new bone was found, along with 20 locations identified as possibly concealing more human remains, WRTV reported at the time. In May 2024, another search was conducted, and authorities recovered more than 10,000 bone fragments scattered across the 18-acre property, the Indy Star reported.  The remains are being analyzed, Hamilton County Coroner Jeff Jellison said, adding that just a tiny fraction of those bone fragments have been identified so far. “We have roughly 10,000 bone fragments, and my guess is that we haven’t gone through 160 of those yet,” he said, according to the Star. “We’ve got a lot of work in front of us, but every day is a step forward.” So far, authorities have identified at least 13 unique DNA profiles from remains found on Baumeister’s property, and nine of those have been identified as gay men who went missing in the 1990s. Four other sets of remains have not been identified yet. This number includes those found on the property in the 1996 search. Two years ago, authorities asked family members whose loved ones went missing in the mid-1980s to mid-1990s to submit DNA samples to be compared to remains found on Baumeister’s property. In total, that means Baumeister is currently suspected of killing at least 25 people (11 as the I-70 Strangler, and 13 more who were found on his property, plus an additional murder Baumeister was linked to posthumously). With 10,000 bone fragments to identify, that number could increase exponentially. The world may never know the extent of Baumeister’s crime, and he will never be held accountable for his alleged actions, since he has been dead for 30 years. And because of that, he will always be a “suspected” serial killer.

Texas Dept Of Public Safety Arrests State’s ‘Most Wanted’ Criminal Illegal Immigrant

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) announced on Thursday that it had arrested the fugitive at the top of the state’s “10 Most Wanted Criminal Illegal Immigrants List.” Victor Hugo Chox Gonzalez, 38, was arrested by DPS Special Agents in Fort Worth. Originally from Mexico, he was wanted for aggravated sexual assault of a child and indecency with a child by sexual contact. Chox Gonzalez was booked in the Tarrant County Jail. DPS notes that those on the “Most Wanted” list are considered armed and dangerous. BREAKING: No. 1 on Texas’ 10 Most Wanted Criminal Illegal Immigrants List Arrested Just more than a week after Gov. @GregAbbott_TX launched Texas’ 10 Most Wanted Criminal Illegal Immigrants List, DPS has captured the No. 1 most wanted fugitive from that list. Earlier today,… pic.twitter.com/omqInTpW9V — Texas DPS (@TxDPS) June 13, 2024 “In 2016, he was convicted of driving while intoxicated with a child under the age of 15 and assault causing bodily injury to a family member,” a DPS report said. “That same year, Chox Gonzalez was removed from the United States. In 2021, he was arrested in Tarrant County for assault and failure to identify/giving false/fictitious information and bonded out of jail.” “In 2023, the Arlington Police Department issued warrants for his arrest for aggravated sexual assault of a child and indecency with a child by sexual contact,” it went on to add. The arrest comes right after Texas authorities arrested two suspected murderers wanted by the international police. Both individuals were unlawfully present in the United States. They lived in the controversial Colony Ridge community, a sprawling land development that’s become infamous for attracting illegal immigrants through its financial and marketing practices. Tony Gonzalez (R-TX) explaining that the Venezuelan prison gang Tren de Aragua, which is known for murdering, kidnapping, sex trafficking, and extorting its victims, is gaining power in America. “This gang in several years is going to be the dominant transnational criminal organization throughout the United States. There’s no doubt in my mind,” Rep. Gonzalez stated, also warning that “they gobble up territory like a cancer.” Eight illegal immigrants who are suspected to have connections to the foreign terrorist organization ISIS were also recently arrested after they illegally crossed the border under President Joe Biden’s watch. Officials have recorded more than 9.5 million nationwide encounters and 1.7 million estimated illegal immigrant gotaways during Biden’s term.

Kate Middleton Returns To Social Media With Update On Cancer Battle

Kate Middleton has returned to social media to thank fans for their support during her cancer treatment and give an update on her health. The Princess of Wales has been taking a break from her public duties since late December and revealed in March that her absence came after doctors found cancer during a planned abdominal surgery in January. Today (June 14), she took to X to share her first update since sharing her diagnosis. Read The Full Statement From Kate Middleton I have been blown away by all the kind messages of support and encouragement over the last couple of months. It really has made the world of difference to William and me and has helped us both through some of the harder times. I am making good progress, but as anyone going through chemotherapy will know, there are good days and bad days. On those bad days, you feel weak, tired, and you have to give in to your body resting. But on the good days, when you feel stronger, you want to make the most of feeling well. I have been blown away by all the kind messages of support and encouragement over the last couple of months. On the days I feel well enough, it is a joy to engage with school life, spend personal time on the things that give me energy and positivity, as well as starting to do a little work from home. I’m looking forward to attending The King’s Birthday Parade this weekend with my family and hope to join a few public engagements over the summer, but equally knowing I am not out of the woods yet. I am learning how to be patient, especially with uncertainty. Taking each day as it comes, listening to my body, and allowing myself to take this much-needed time to heal. Thank you so much for your continued understanding, and to all of you who have so bravely shared your stories with me. The Princess Of Wales Has Been Undergoing “Preventative Chemotherapy” Kate Middleton has been undergoing preventative chemotherapy during her absence and has been completely out of the limelight until a recent family outing. As she noted in her statement, she will be at this weekend’s Trooping the Colours, which celebrates King Charles’ birthday. The princess has not shared what kind of cancer she is battling nor has she shared details aside from saying doctors caught it in the “early stages.” This story’s featured image is by Chris Jackson/Getty Images. Justices Rule Plaintiffs Lack Standing to Challenge FDA’s Promotion of Dangerous Abortion Drug

The Supreme Court, in its decision on Thursday in FDA v. Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine, ordered the lower court to dismiss a lawsuit challenging the Food and Drug Administration’s regulation of the abortion drug mifepristone because the plaintiffs did not have legal standing to sue. Justice Brett Kavanaugh wrote the unanimous opinion. The ruling neither vindicates the safety of mifepristone, nor addresses whether it should be available. It shows only the limits of litigation as part of the strategy to protect women and girls from this dangerous drug. The FDA approved mifepristone in 2000, deeming it safe only under tight restrictions and close medical supervision. Only doctors could prescribe and dispense the drug, women could obtain it only in person from their doctor, and doctors were required to report all medical complications to the FDA.   These strict safety rules continued until the FDA, first under President Barack Obama then under President Joe Biden, unraveled them. Even though overall medical complications were on the rise, the FDA told doctors in 2016 that they no longer had to report nonfatal complications. Then, in 2021, the FDA cited the lack of evidence of nonfatal complications—a void the FDA itself had created—in dropping the critical safeguard of obtaining mifepristone in person. With the use of mifepristone on the rise, abandoning these and other long-standing safety restrictions means that more and more women will need emergency treatment for complications from its use. After unsuccessfully trying to challenge the approval of mifepristone through a petition process within the FDA, medical groups and individual doctors filed this lawsuit in November 2022. It presented two issues: whether the plaintiffs had legal standing to bring the suit at all and, if so, whether the FDA’s decisions regarding mifepristone were based on sufficient evidence. The basic standing requirement is that a plaintiff must establish a concrete legal injury caused by the defendant that a court can remedy. On the merits, the Administrative Procedure Act requires that agency decisions must not be “arbitrary, capricious … or otherwise not according to law.” The District Court said that the plaintiffs had standing and that the FDA’s approval of mifepristone and the decisions to drop its safety restrictions violated the APA. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit also recognized the plaintiffs’ standing and found that abandoning the safety rules for mifepristone violated the APA. The FDA and mifepristone’s manufacturer separately appealed that decision, and the Supreme Court combined the cases.  The plaintiffs argued that, by making the use of mifepristone less safe, the FDA made it more likely that women will need emergency medical care and, in turn, more likely that these doctors would be required to treat them. That amounted to a legal injury because, by including the need to complete chemical abortions surgically, this treatment would violate the religious beliefs of pro-life doctors and undermine their regular practice of delivering babies. Kavanaugh explained that to establish standing, a plaintiff must “show a predictable chain of events leading from the government action to the asserted injury—in other words, that the government action has caused or likely will cause injury in fact to the plaintiff.” These plaintiffs, however, are pro-life doctors and do not prescribe mifepristone. The FDA’s regulations, therefore, do not apply directly to them. Their standing argument, therefore, was more attenuated. As Kavanaugh put it, they advanced “several complicated causation theories to connect FDA’s actions to the plaintiffs’ alleged injuries in fact.” The high court did not find any of those theories persuasive. The core of the decision is this: “The causal link between FDA’s regulatory actions and [the plaintiffs’] alleged injuries is too speculative or otherwise too attenuated to establish standing.” This decision does not mean that mifepristone is safe; it isn’t. Nor does it mean that the FDA followed a credible and objective decision-making process; it didn’t. This case was about how the FDA made its decisions, not what decisions it made. Courts address legal disputes; they don’t have authority to make policy decisions. The litigation brought by these brave and determined plaintiffs, however, has exposed the aggressive abortion agenda of the Obama and Biden administrations and their willingness to put women and girls at greater risk to promote it. Powerful government agencies make decisions and issue regulations that dramatically affect the lives of all Americans. Even when abortion is involved, we must have at least some confidence that these agencies are following the law when doing so. Mifepristone remains a dangerous drug that now causes more than 60% of all abortions in the United States. Even though this lawsuit was ultimately unsuccessful in holding the FDA accountable for its reckless decisions, efforts to protect women and unborn babies from abortion drugs will continue.
