Little Girl Instantly Regrets Telling Dad To “Take Off” His Beard

One little girl learned the meaning of the phrase “be careful what you wish for” after advising her dad to get rid of his beard. In an adorable video on social media, the toddler was sitting in the car with her father when she told him she didn’t like his facial hair. As a matter of fact, she disliked it so much, she wanted him to shave it! Dad was somewhat hesitant, but he didn’t seem entirely opposed to the idea. He was just a bit concerned that Mom wouldn’t approve. “Take it off,” the little girl demanded, gesturing to her father’s beard. Of course, very small children notoriously lack foresight. When the toddler told her dad to remove his beard, it didn’t occur to her that he’d look so different without it! This father caught the most hilarious footage of his daughter’s reaction to the big change. View this post on Instagram A post shared by ellie and theo (@uncooltoddler) Who could have guessed that Dad would look different without his beard? “Hey, why did you take it off?” asked the child upon seeing her dad without his usual beard. “Because you told me to!” the man exclaimed. Screengrab from Instagram Either the little girl had forgotten the request she made, or she didn’t think her father would actually go through with it. She seemed very confused by the situation! However, once the kid had a little time to get used to her dad’s new face, she eventually conceded that he looked good without the beard. What a relief that must have been! “You think I’m pretty?” her father asked, pretending to be anxious about her opinion. She informed him that he was not only handsome, but beautiful to boot! Then, the video ended on a very sweet note. Both father and daughter said, “I love you.” It looks like any hard feelings about Dad’s beard are now forgotten! Massive Magnetic Stars Detected Outside The Milky Way For The First Time

Magnetic fields have been detected in very large stars in the Large and Small Magellanic Clouds, the first time this has been achieved for stars outside our galaxy. It is hoped the discoveries in metal-poor regions will help us understand the processes involved, given their outsized influence. The Sun has a magnetic field, and when this gets twisted it can lead to sunspots, whose effects the world experienced in marvelous color this month. A minority of stars have much more powerful magnetic fields. Where these stars are massive enough to end their lives as neutron stars, they can turn into magnetars, which are thought to be the sources of long-duration gamma-ray bursts, rare types of supernovae, and other poorly understood phenomena. Our understanding of why some stars have such hyper-powerful fields is poor however, partly because we can’t see as many as we would like at crucial stages of their lives. There are suspicions that strong magnetic fields are the consequence of binary stars merging or engaging in mass transfers, but this is not yet proven. So far, we have failed to detect any highly magnetic galactic stars with low metal content. This may mean that low-metal stars are less likely to be highly magnetized, but it could also be a coincidence from small samples. The question is important, because low-metal massive stars are the closest study labs we get to the early universe. Attempts to expand our sample of such magnetic stars outside the galaxy have failed, until now.We can’t directly see magnetic fields in space, but we detect them through polarized light. Magnetic fields cause light emitted within them to become polarized, instead of having random orientations like most light from space, and this can be observed through what is known as spectropolarimetry."The method is extremely hungry for photons. This is a special challenge because even the brightest massive stars, which have more than eight solar masses, are relatively light-poor when observed in our neighboring galaxies,” said Dr Silva Järvinen of the Leibniz Institute of Astrophysics Potsdam in a statement. It’s just as well then that the world is in a golden age of giant telescope construction. Järvinen is part of a team that used one of the four 8-meter (26-foot) components of the European Southern Observatory’s Very Large Telescope to collect the light required from such distant stars. It's a process that can lead to null results for many reasons. Some stars may be magnetized, but not quite enough to be detected at this distance. Moreover, the longitudinal magnetic field the team sought is a dipole strongest near the magnetic poles and zero at the magnetic equator. With the magnetic axis randomly aligned toward Earth, some of the stars studied will inevitably be seen from the wrong angle, making it impossible to detect signs of magnetism.Where the magnetic field is at the edge of detectability the chances can be improved by studying more spectral lines over a wider range of wavelengths. Longer exposure times also help.Järvinen and co-authors sampled four rare Of?p stars, two in each of the Magellanic Clouds, where metal concentrations are generally much lower than in the Milky Way. Only five Of?p stars, distinguished by their immense mass and unusually bright CIII spectral line at 4650 Å, have been found in our entire galaxy, all highly magnetized. However, they seem to be more common in our smaller companion galaxies. They also studied a binary system whose giant stars are so close they’re touching. The team detected magnetic fields in two Of?p stars, as well as in the contact binary. The findings tend to suggest extreme magnetism is not so rare for giant stars in low-metal environments, increasing the chance of extreme events in the early universe. The study is open access in Astronomy and Astrophysics.

Blaze News original: Arson and death threats: How a roast battle joke about a government hoax sparked cancellations and protests of a comedian

Comedian Brendan Blacquier never thought that a random, throwaway joke from a roast battle would be what launched him into international headlines, all for the wrong reasons. Blacquier's comedy group, the Danger Cats, has been growing in popularity ever since a viral video about Canadian accents was posted to YouTube in 2018. This was followed by popular sketches about vaccines and the Bud Light marketing fiasco. For years, the group has been touring across Canada before breaking into the United States with its down-to-earth, uncensored comedy. Group member Brett Forte has performed with Joe Rogan alumnus Brendan Schaub, and the group recently paired up with Comedy Store legend Brian Holtzman. As the roast of Tom Brady was dominating social media and edgy comedy was seeing a massive resurgence, a slew of cancellations rocked the the Danger Cats as they came into the crosshairs of left-wing media. It all started when a vertical video of Blacquier reading a roast joke off his phone was posted to Facebook. The joke from Blacquier, who goes by the nickname Uncle Hack, mocked a female comedian and compared her number of sexual encounters to the number of unmarked graves under a Canadian residential school. The unmarked graves referenced the alleged discovery of the remains of native children near or underneath residential schools, which were operated by the Catholic Church in Canada until the 1990s. The news of the sites led to the burnings of Catholic churches across the country, protests, and demands that the Justin Trudeau administration get to the bottom of the claims. As of the time of this writing, the Canadian federal government has spent years and more than $8 million on the search for bodies at the alleged unmarked grave sites. Zero bodies have been found. However, this did not stop complaints about Blacquier's stand-up, with upset activists demanding that comedy clubs cancel the Danger Cat performances. 'To try and dictate what somebody should laugh at and should not laugh at is control, and what it seems like right now with the powers that be, is that control ... there's a thirst for it.' The video clip in question was posted by Sherry Lynn Mckay, who has described herself as an "Indigenous content creator, stand up comedian, motivational speaker," and "influencer," along with being a "mom of 4" and a "tiktokker." Mckay gave an interview to CBC Radio's "Up to Speed," which is broadcast by Canada's state-owned media. "I first seen [sic] the video in 2022. ... I was absolutely disgusted, and it was actually at the beginning of my stand-up comedy career," she told the radio host. When asked why she thought the joke was so hurtful, Mckay said that it was because of "how easy it was for some one to say those things in a public setting and make light of a really dark situation." "We as indigenous people, we are still doing a lot of healing. ... It's just one of those things," she added. "It really hurt me and hurt a lot people who watched it ... indigenous people and our allies, too,' she added. Comedian Forte soon got word of a cancellation from a Winnipeg comedy club, which told him over the phone that the group's shows were being removed immediately due to controversies surrounding the event. "They took it upon themselves to run to the media and their social media following to protest the show," Blacquier told Blaze News. "They forced the hand of the venue to cancel the show. Then after that happened, and it seemed like the folks that were against us got a win, they moved on to more." — (@) The same activists then took issue with the third member of the comedy group, Sam Walker, who was promoting a T-shirt that joked about convicted serial murderer Robert Pickton. This led to "national attention and protesters showing up outside the venue that we had in Vancouver," Blacquier recalled. Strangely, activists who said Walker was making light of the crimes either didn't seem to notice or didn't care that his opinion on the matter was that not enough investigation had gone into the murders. Walker emphasized that there were still families who deserved more justice. Protests at the comedy club led to threats of arson, vandalism, and bodily harm to the group and venues, should they dare to host the group. In the end, eight venues canceled Danger Cat shows. 'I asked "did you hear the joke?" and he was like "no." So I said "so you don't even know what you're mad at me for?!"' Government spotlight The Danger Cats found themselves as the subject of scathing news reports from Canada's biggest media companies, most of which have received government funding. This of course included the government broadcaster itself, CBC, which has repeatedly brought up the conversation about whether or not the trio should be allowed to perform. "I don't think I've really had much faith in the media to begin with," Uncle Hack said when asked if he expected the sheer number of hit pieces the group received. "The person behind the pen or whoever's writing those articles has a certain objective to accomplish with with their piece ... but this is not any form of activism," he said about his comedy. "I guess in some jokes you're provoking thought, if you want to call that activism, you can; who am I to stop you from that? But the intent of being on that stage is for us to deliver laughter, and comedy is subjective, so it's tough. To try and dictate what somebody should laugh at and should not laugh at is control, and what it seems like right now with the powers that be is, that control ... there's a thirst for it." Blacquier said he has made peace with the mainstream media, saying that the outlets have "made it clear that they won't be attending the same dinner parties any time soon." Joke misinformation Perhaps most irritating about the ordeal for Blacquier was the fact that so many shows were canceled or had to be moved based on a misunderstanding. Meaning, the reality was that his joke was not a carefully plotted, insensitive jab at native Canadian history. "I don't have a single joke in my act about residential schools, but the media portrayed it as if I go up and do a half-hour on residential schools, and the outcomes, and the victims, and all this. They made it seem like I have a whole act based upon residential schools, which is not true." Despite the government not finding any evidence of buried bodies, the comic said that if you listen to his joke, it was actually alluding to the fact that there were a lot of bodies. "I don't agree with what happened inside those schools," he added. But the comedian's true feelings certainly did not stop the protests that led to cancellations, nor did it stop the comedians from being accosted whenever angry activists got the chance. However, Uncle Hack did get the opportunity to change someone's mind when he was confronted at a venue. "I had a discussion with one gentleman in public who pulled me aside. I let him speak on behalf of attending one of those schools and how I shouldn't joke about it, and then once I let him speak, I asked 'did you hear the joke?' and he was like 'no.' So I said 'so you don't even know what you're mad at me for?!'" the comedian recalled. The man replied that he was bothered that the Taber, Alberta, comedian was making fun of residential schools at all; Blacquier corrected him. "No, I just found a really wild way to call a woman a whore." "Really?" the man replied. "That's f***ing hilarious," the man added before laughing and walking away. The sensitivity of the subject makes it "almost fun and dangerous to try and weave through," Blacquier continued. "I think that if we're not willing to talk about it, we're never going to uncover the truth." — (@) The Danger Cats are currently touring across Canada and California, with tickets available through October 2024. Can't drive 55? The latest busybody tech is here to help

Are you haunted by the sneaking suspicion that sometimes you drive too fast? Not to worry. Once again the government is here to save you from yourself. Meet the greatest innovation in motorist safety since the irritating beep reminding you to buckle up: the passive speed limiter. The computer may be able to diminish your engine power if it thinks you're going too fast, but you'll always be able to override it. Right. Because our public safety commissars would never abuse this technology to implement kill switches. Like all the best nanny-state innovations, this baby comes from Europe. It's a system that emits audible and visual warnings when a driver's speed exceeds the posted speed limit by more than 10 miles per hour. Starting in July, all new vehicles (including trucks, buses, and cars) made or sold in the European Union must have this technology. Thanks to last week's passage of California Senate Bill 961 by a 22-13 vote, we can look forward to feeling just as "protected" as anyone in the EU. California's requirement applies to 50% of all vehicles by 2029, rising to 100% by 2032. Expect this to spread nationwide. Automakers aren't likely to manufacture a separate line of vehicles just for California. And Gavin Newsom's fiefdom has a long track record of throwing its weight around to influence national — and international — policy. California has set its own emission standards for cars for decades, rules that more than a dozen other states have also adopted. And when California announced it would eventually ban the sale of new gas-powered cars, major automakers soon followed with their own announcement to phase out fossil-fuel vehicles. “California, like the nation as a whole, is seeing a horrifying spike in traffic deaths, with thousands of drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians dying each year on our roads,” said Senator Scott Wiener, who introduced SB 961. According to the California Office of Traffic Safety’s 2023 Traffic Safety Report, one-third of all traffic fatalities in the state between 2017 and 2021 were speeding-related. The National Transportation Safety Board, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the American Automobile Association have also voiced their support. The NTSB, along with the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, is also pushing for a federal passive speed limiter requirement. The bill next heads to the State Assembly, which has until August 31 to pass it into law. SB 961 describes the passive speed limiter — officially designated as a “passive intelligent speed assistance system" — as: “An integrated vehicle system that uses, at minimum, the GPS location of the vehicle compared with a database of posted speed limits, to determine the speed limit, and utilizes a brief, one-time visual and audio signal to alert the driver each time they exceed the speed limit by more than 10 miles per hour.” If the system has conflicting speed limits in the same area, it uses the higher speed limit. Let's hope the system will be sophisticated enough to distinguish between a daily commute on the 101 and a track day at Laguna Seca. The usual Big Government defenders have emerged to explain why these passive speed limiters aren't a big deal at all. Sure, the computer will be able to diminish your engine power if it thinks you're going too fast, but you'll always be able override it. Right. Because our public safety commissars would never abuse this technology to implement kill switches. By the way, emergency vehicles are exempt — they already come with bells and whistles. Now the rest of us can pretend to be ambulances or police cruisers in hot pursuit. Here's an idea: Instead installing more invasive tech, why not teach people better driving skills? With the kind of comprehensive behind-the-wheel training professional truck driving schools offer, we make our roads safer without treating our citizens like children in bumper cars. Or maybe the control is the point.
