Nick Mason would like to see AI making new Pink Floyd songs

The classic Pink Floyd line-up with Roger Waters, David Gilmour, Nick Mason and Richard Wright was dissolved in the early 80s when Wright was forced out of the band by Waters. The band's bassist and main songwriter decided to leave in 1985 but Gilmour and Mason reactivated the band without him, inviting Wright to join them again. Waters was never on good terms with Gilmour again, although they reunited at the Live 8 in 2005. They haven't said good things about each other over the years and a reunion is extremely unlikely. So in an interview with The Mirror, Mason said that he would love to see what Artificial Intelligence would do with Pink Floyd's music, showing what they could have written if they had stayed together. Nick Mason would like to see AI making new Pink Floyd songs “It would be fascinating to see what AI could do with new music. If you tried to run it as a sort of ‘Where did Pink Floyd go after?’ The thing to do would be to have an AI situation where David and Roger become friends again. We could be like ABBA by the time we’ve finished with it. “In a 55-year career, most of it was great fun. We were enormously privileged to be in a successful band and tour the world and hang out with really interesting people. It’s a gold card to meet all sorts of your favorite sportsmen and actors,” Nick Mason said. The version of the band without Waters disbanded after the 90s and Gilmour focused on his solo career. So Waters and Gilmour were always on and off touring performing Pink Floyd's biggest hits. So in 2018, Nick Mason had the idea to form "Nick Mason's Saucerful of Secrets", his own band, which is focused on performing songs from the first era of the band, which are not included constantly in the setlists of Roger and David when they are on tour. He also talked about that project talking with The Mirror: “The best thing about keeping the thing going is for our benefit. It makes sense to keep it going rather than shutting it down. I also enjoy it because the more time passes, the more you can look at it with a rosier glint," Nick Mason said. The post Nick Mason would like to see AI making new Pink Floyd songs appeared first on Rock And Roll Garage.

Brian Ray explains why Paul McCartney doesn’t retire

Paul McCartney helped to form The Beatles back in 1960 and since then became one of the most influential and successful songwriters of all time. At the age of 82 he continues to be active and has many scheduled tour dates in 2024. He will perform in Uruguay, Argentina, Chile, Brazil, Peru, Colombia, Mexico, France, Spain and England. The line-up of his band is the same for 22 years, since the American guitarist Brian Ray joined his band that already had Wix Wickens, Rusty Anderson and Abe Laboriel Jr. In an interview with New York's WAXQ radio station (Transcribed by Ultimate Guitar), Brian Ray explained why he believes Paul doesn't retire. Brian Ray explains why Paul McCartney doesn't retire "He's passionate about it. And he loves to sing a song. He loves to entertain. He's just got that gene in him. He was born to do it. I think to myself, 'Why? Why do it?' He has to love it, because it's a schlep for anybody. I don't care if you're Paul or whoever you are, it is still a schlep. You gotta still get up and go and make that plane and make that bus. It's still a schlep. You've gotta really want it." "He certainly doesn't need it. It's not about that. It's about — I guess he looked at people like John Lee Hooker, B.B. King, Chuck Berry, who kept doing it. I think Chuck was doing shows into his early 90s, if I'm not mistaken. So, I think Paul looks at that and goes like, 'Why stop? Just why stop? I love it. I enjoy it. People are loving it,'" Brian Ray said. Brian Ray is 69 and worked with many other legendary artists during his career. Some of them are Etta James, Smokey Robinson and Johnny Hallyday. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yRluAsrXV94&pp=ygUTcGF1bCBtY2NhcnRuZXkgMjAyMw%3D%3DThe post Brian Ray explains why Paul McCartney doesn’t retire appeared first on Rock And Roll Garage.

Ronnie Wood’s son married Steve Harris’ daughter

No one could ever expect that The Rolling Stones and Iron Maiden would be related somehow, since they are quite different bands. However, they are now related by marriage, since Ronnie Wood's son Tyrone Wood just got married to Steve Harris' daughter Faye Harris. The couple met each other on a dating app in 2022 and got engaged in December 2023. The ceremony happened last July 26 in Marylebone, London. Tyrone is an art gallery owner and Faye is the co-founder of a perfume company called Eauso Vert. https://twitter.com/JolieSoleil/status/1816950550094823872 https://twitter.com/AdibHidayat/status/1818111607131852960   Wood has six children and was married to three different women during his life. Harris also has six kids but has only been married to one woman. Ronnie Wood is 77 and has been active in the music business since 1964. He first achieved fame for being a member of The Faces and working with Jeff Beck. He has been a member of The Rolling Stones since 1975 when he replaced Mick Taylor. It was the same year that the bassist and songwriter Steve Harris started his musical career. It was when the 68 year-old musician created Iron Maiden, which would become one of the most successful Heavy Metal bands of all time. The post Ronnie Wood’s son married Steve Harris’ daughter appeared first on Rock And Roll Garage.

The song George Harrison said had one of the nicest melodies

The late legendary George Harrison was the youngest Beatle, but was a fundamental part of the band's sound and songwriting. Although he and Ringo didn't have much space to share their compositions, because Lennon and McCartney were the dominant songwriters, he had the chance to write many incredible songs with The Beatles and during his solo career. He was the first Beatles member to have a number 1 hit song and had a really successful solo career until his death in 2001 at the age of 58. Harrison revealed once which was the song that according to him had one of the nicest melodies that he wrote. The song George Harrison said had one of the nicest melodies he wrote George Harrison mentioned the track "Something" in an interview with Ritchie Yorke back in 1969 as one of the nicest melody tunes he wrote. The track was released as a single and featured on their 1969 album "Abbey Road". "When I wrote it, I imagined somebody like Ray Charles doing it. It's, you know, that's how I - the feel I imagined. But because I'm not Ray Charles. Then you know, I'm sort of much more limited in what I can do, then it came out like this. It's nice. It's probably the nicest melody tune that I've written," George Harrison said. Generally the track is considered a love statement to his former wife Pattie Boyd, who later on married his great friend Eric Clapton. But as he said in the interview, he wrote the track with Ray Charles in mind. He even offered the track to Joe Cocker before it was recorded with The Beatles. Because Paul and John not always gave him and Ringo the opportunity to do their songs. It is considered the best song of the "Abbey Road" album by many Beatles fans. His favorite versions of "Something" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UelDrZ1aFeY&pp=ygURc29tZXRoaW5nIGJlYXRsZXM%3D In 2019, George Harrison’s official social networks posted a quote from the late musician talking about the Ray Charles version. He said “My favorite version is the one by James Brown… When I wrote it, in my mind I heard Ray Charles singing it. He did do it some years later.” It had George Harrison on vocals and guitar, John Lennon on piano, Paul McCartney on bass and Ringo Starr on drums. The additional musicians were Billy Preston on the Hammond organ, George Martin on string arrangement besides unidentified sessions musicians playing violins, violas, cellos and string bass. Although Harrison wrote the track with Ray Charles in mind he wasn't happy with the version the American musician did for the song later. Two covers he praised were done by James Brown and Smokey Robinson, two artists he also loved. He revealed that in an interview with MuchMusic back in 1988 (Transcribed by Rock and Roll Garage). “The best one I ever heard was (from) James Brown and he did it in 1972. But he did only as the b-side of a re-recorded version of ‘Think’, which is a very old song of his. So it was only on the b-side. I sent him a postcard and said: “You should make it the A side, it’s a killer! It’s really good. I like Smokey Robinson‘s version of ‘Something' as well. I can’t think off hand, of anything else (other versions),” George Harrison said. The post The song George Harrison said had one of the nicest melodies appeared first on Rock And Roll Garage.

Uber Eats driver saving for wedding leaves heartfelt note in a bag and it pays off big time

With as much controversy as there is surrounding tip culture these days, this wholesome story reminds us that at the end of the day—many, if not most humans will gladly show generosity when it is genuinely asked of them. Paul Slobodzian and his fiancé Aly wanted to create an unforgettable wedding to celebrate their love in the most special way possible. To make it happen, both took on a side hustle driving for Uber Eats every day for over a year. During one delivery, Slobodzian thought he’d try slipping a heartfelt, handwritten note sharing his wish into the bag of the order. That note, which went into Erica Hernandez’s Chipotle order, read:“Thank you for your order! I’m delivering for Touched by Slobodzian’s honest plea, Hernandez shared the video onto TikTok, saying “I don’t have a lot of followers, but hopefully this reaches the right people.” TikTok · erica_cristal www.tiktok.com The video not only reached the right people, but loads of them. The clip went mega viral, racking up nearly 37 million views. Pretty soon the donations began pouring in, including $500 from Chipotle itself.Slobodzian later posted an emotional follow-up video saying that, because of the donations, he and Aly reached their wedding saving’s goal, and now would be able to reclaim some quality time today before the big day on September 21st. “I don’t even know how to express my gratitude for this to anybody who has reached out and sent well wishes or money or anything our way that is positive. It has truly changed our lives.” @paulslobo711 CHIPOTLE DELIVERY DRIVER FIANCÉ UPDATE: A huge thank you to everyone who has reached out regarding my note on @erica_cristal’s video. The support for me and my fiancée, @Aly, means more than I can express. Thank you all for changing our lives. #update #chipotle #wedding #deliverydriver ♬ original sound - Paul What’s more—Erica will be a special guest. Plus, she got an extra $1000 from the happy couple as a thank-you. And she got a $250 Chipotle gift card! Talk about the gift that keeps on giving. Slobodzian would end up recounting this entire tale to Fox News, reaching and inspiring millions more viewers worldwide, many of whom were compelled to send some love in the comments.“Hi from New Zealand!”“You’ve reached Australia! Your story is amazing. Congratulations.”“You’ve reached South Africa and this is truly a wholesome story.” “Love from Nigeria.”“Seeing from BC, Canada.”“Congratulations from Ghana. You are going to make a nice couple.”“Congratulations from Germany.”“I’m in Scotland and read about this in an article. Congratulations to you both. I hope you have the wedding of your dreams and some left over for the honeymoon.”“You’ve reached Toronto. The power of social media is so beautiful.”Many couldn’t help but note this was social media at its very best. As one person put it, “sometimes the internet is awesome.” Indeed, it is. This is the ultimate example that the kindness of strangers can really do some powerful things. And what a profound reminder that by just trying to help one person, it can have an exponential impact.
