Planes‚ Trains and Automobiles ... and Trucks

Once again in 2024‚ journalists need to justify treating Trump as a deadly bubonic plague‚ an impending Hitler. Treating him as one side of an election is dangerous when he is the End of Democracy. Then they claim they only have a bias in favor of Truth. Yes‚ they're totally not favoring the Democrats with this foam-flecked Evil Trump coverage. On April 1‚ the New York Times podcast The Daily tackled the "Trump Problem‚" which they defined as this: Why must we deal with business executives who want us to treat Trump and his voters like they are normal citizens and not a Death Star for Democracy? Host Michael Barbaro asked Times political reporter Jim Rutenberg about the impression Republicans have that the media are wearing a "jersey" for Team Biden in all of their hostility to Trump. Rutenberg's reply was simply awful: “No one wants to be wearing a jersey on our business. But maybe what they really have to accept is that we’re just sticking to the true facts‚ and that may look like we’re wearing a jersey‚ but we’re not. And that may‚ at times‚ look like it’s lining up more with the Democrats‚ but we’re not. If Trump is lying about a stolen election‚ that’s not siding against him. That’s siding for the truth‚ and that’s what we’re doing." This podcast airs on more than 300 "public" radio stations‚ which underlines how NPR is one big liberal sandbox. It wasn't even the only NPR talk program making this preposterous argument. Over on 1A [for First Amendment‚ get it?] from northwest D.C. at WAMU-FM‚ co-host Todd Zwillich offered a similar awful spin: “I think that you're seeing increasingly‚ luckily‚ journalists who cover politics realize they're not in the old game anymore‚ that neutrality doesn't only not serve them anymore‚ but doesn't serve the public anymore. It doesn't mean being partisan. It doesn't mean you're for one side. It means you're for truth.” Meanwhile‚ Joy Reid is comparing Trump and his followers to apocalyptic cults from David Koresh‚ Jim Jones‚ and Charles Manson. Is that what they mean as being "for truth"?  Both shows never touched on the Hunter Biden laptop or any other issue where the media suppressed and disparaged true stories. When they couldn't suppress it‚ they lied about it‚ claiming it had "all the hallmarks of Russian disinformation." Then‚ in 2022‚ the New York Times and other leftist outlets admitted the laptop was a real thing. This apparently isn't supposed to dent their "we're not for Democrats‚ we're for truth" spins. Right before the election‚ NPR executive Terence Samuel infamously dismissed the Hunter scandal: “We don't want to waste our time on stories that are not really stories.” It was a “pure distraction.” It was‚ he said‚ a "politically driven event." A 5-year-old K-9 passed away due to injuries sustained in the line of duty‚ according to the Virginia Department of Corrections‚ which reported that Corrections Officer Kharmishia Phillip Fields and the dog responded when inmates tied to MS-13 assaulted another prisoner.The Belgian Malinois named Rivian passed away after being "repeatedly stabbed and kicked‚" VADOC noted."On Tuesday‚ April 2‚ three inmates affiliated with the MS-13 gang who are housed at Sussex I State Prison viciously attacked another inmate within one of the facility's housing units. A fourth inmate appeared to be supervising the brutal assault‚" VADOC noted. "Rivan was violently and repeatedly stabbed and kicked by the inmates and later tragically died at the facility while VADOC staff attempted lifesaving measures."Officer Phillip Fields‚ a trained K-9 handler and 4-year veteran of the Department‚ sustained no serious injuries due to her training and Rivan's courageous actions. Order was restored by Officer Phillip Fields‚ responding Corrections Officers‚ and Rivan's actions. The attacked inmate was transported to a local hospital for injuries sustained in the attack and was later returned to the facility‚" VADOC noted.The department indicated that that the inmates involved in the assault had been in the country unlawfully when they were arrested."The inmates involved in the malicious attack are from El Salvador and Guatemala and at least three are verified members of MS-13. The Department has confirmed that all four of the inmates were in the United States illegally at the time of their arrest and conviction. The inmates are incarcerated for several charges‚ including first degree homicide‚ attempted rape‚ kidnapping/abduction‚ malicious wounding‚ use of a firearm in commission of a felony‚ child pornography charges‚ grand larceny‚ and possession of a Schedule III Drug. The Virginia Department of Corrections intends to pursue prosecution of these inmates to the fullest extent of the law‚" VADOC noted.The animal would have been 6 years old at the end of this month‚ according to VADOC‚ which noted that the dog's "father worked for a police department in Southwest Virginia and his mother worked for the United States Secret Service."Virginia Gov. In 2016‚ Amazon touted the miraculous automation technology of its grocery stores that allowed people to "Just Walk Out‚" but the company has since admitted that it was supported by 1‚000 live workers in India. About half of the Amazon Fresh stores in the U.S. utilized the Just Walk Out program‚ but the company now says that it will phase it out in favor of a high-tech cart that includes a scanner screen. The behemoth company's decision was first reported by the Information. Amazon spokesperson Carly Golden said that customers told them they wanted to see a running total of the cost of their items as they shopped. Some customers reported on social media that it would take hours for their receipts to arrive after they left the Amazon Fresh stores. As it turns out‚ the delay was caused by their live workers in India reviewing video in order to ensure that customers were being charged for the correct items. "In theory it's all automatic‚ but I would not be surprised if there are human checks going on too‚" posted Dan Barker in 2021 on social media. "I'd mentioned my receipt arrived 2 hours after my visit‚" he added. "I can't think of a reason that would happen‚ with Amazon who are very 'realtime'‚ unless 1) there's some extraordinary heavy computer processing going on that can't be done realtime‚ b) there's some sort of human check." One analysis from 2022 found that 700 out of 1‚000 purchases needed to be reviewed by human workers‚ but Amazon disputes that claim and says it was only helping train the machine-learning model. Some critics pointed out that Amazon merely replaced high-paying jobs in the U.S. with low-paying jobs in India. "As it turns out‚ Amazon's AI Just Walk Out Stores were just a PLOY to get more customers to shop at its stores while actively UNDERCUTTING the local job market‚" responded one detractor on X‚ the platform formerly known as Twitter. "AI might just be an underpaid‚ overworked Indian virtual worker‚" read another reply. "How insanely dystopian‚" said Democratic strategist Max Burns. "Unreal and dystopian. I was one of the very first internal beta customers and I guess they just…lied to customers? It feels very weird now knowing real humans were live viewing your every move‚" said another critic.
