House expels Santos; Fetterman says Menendez did 'much more sinister ... kinds of things' and should be ousted from Senate

After the House of Representatives voted to expel Republican Rep. George Santos (R-N.Y.) on Friday‚ Democratic Sen. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania reiterated his opinion that Democratic Sen. Bob Menendez of New Jersey should be expelled from the Senate."I'm not surprised‚" Fetterman said of the Santos expulsion during an appearance on "The View‚" adding that Menendez had engaged in "much more sinister ... kinds of things‚" and that the senator "needs to go." — (@) Menendez and his wife have been charged for allegedly accepting bribes. A superseding indictment claims that they "agreed to and did accept hundreds of thousands of dollars of bribes in exchange for using MENENDEZ's power and influence as a Senator to seek to protect and enrich" three individuals "and to benefit the Arab Republic of Egypt."Menendez has denied wrongdoing and predicted that he "will be found innocent."Fetterman has prevoiusly called for ousting Menendez from office. "Senator Menendez should not be a U.S. Senator. He should have been gone long ago. It is time for every one of my colleagues in the Senate to join me in expelling Senator Menendez. We cannot have an alleged foreign agent in the United States Senate. This is not a close call‚" Fetterman declared in an October tweet. The House voted 311-114 to expel Santos on Friday‚ with 105 Republicans joining 206 Democrats to vote in favor of the ouster. Two Democrats joined 112 Republicans in voting against expulsion. Two Democrats voted present."As required by law‚ I will announce the date for a special election in the third district within the next ten days. I take this responsibility seriously‚ and am committed to ensuring there will be a Member of Congress who can serve Nassau and Queens Counties‚" a tweet from New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) stated.Santos‚ who is facing various charges‚ has pled not guilty. According to an October U.S. Attorney's Office‚ Eastern District of New York press release‚ Santos has been charged "with one count of conspiracy to commit offenses against the United States‚ two counts of wire fraud‚ two counts of making materially false statements to the Federal Election Commission (FEC)‚ two counts of falsifying records submitted to obstruct the FEC‚ two counts of aggravated identity theft‚ and one count of access device fraud‚ in addition to the seven counts of wire fraud‚ three counts of money laundering‚ one count of theft of public funds‚ and two counts of making materially false statements to the United States House of Representatives that were charged in the original indictment."The now-ousted congressman has admitted to "embellishing my resume. I'm sorry‚" Santos said last year‚ according to the New York Post.Like Blaze News? Bypass the censors‚ sign up for our newsletters‚ and get stories like this direct to your inbox. Sign up here!

Democrat congressman says his home was vandalized by pro-Palestinian protesters demanding a ceasefire

A Democrat member of Congress said that his home in Bellevue‚ Washington‚ had been vandalized by pro-Palestinian protesters calling for a ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas war. Rep. Adam Smith of Washington state released a statement about the vandalism on Friday on his social media account. “Last night‚ my house was vandalized by people advocating for a ceasefire in Israel and Gaza. This attack is sadly reflective of the coarsening of the political discourse in our country‚ and is completely unwarranted‚ unnecessary‚ and harmful to our political system‚" said Smith. He went on to condemn the extremism that has crept into current political debates. “The extremism on both the left and right side of our political spectrum is a threat to a healthy‚ functioning democracy and has been condoned for far too long. The simple truth is that extremism on both sides is degrading to our political system and must be rooted out for our democracy to be able to persist‚" he added. The Bellevue Police Department confirmed that officers responded to a report of malicious mischief on Friday at about 9:13 a.m. Jaelin O’Halloran‚ a spokesperson for Smith‚ said that his garage had been spray-painted with red paint‚ but his office refused to release photographs of the vandalism. They indicated that the U.S. Capitol Police was notified about the incident. Israel restarted its military operations in the Gaza strip after agreeing to several days of a ceasefire in order to swap Palestinian prisoners with some hostages that were captured by Hamas terrorists. Smith previously gave his support of Israel and its "goal of significantly degrading and ultimately eliminating the Hamas terrorist organization."He also condemned the vandalism of a synagogue in his congressional district last month‚ which he called "heartbreaking" and an "atrocity." Video shows violent armed robbery at Florida nail salon‚ police say suspect's 55-year-old mother was the getaway driver

Florida police say a violent robbery caught on video in front of a nail salon had been plotted by the mother of the suspect for over a month. Yunet Sanchez is the owner of Champagne Nails in Hialeah‚ but she also sells jewelry at the store. On Sept. 16‚ she was leaving the business with a suitcase full of gold jewelry when she was violently robbed. The robbery was caught on surveillance video. The video shows a man wearing all black clothing and a facemask run up to Sanchez and grab the handle of the suitcase. When Sanchez refused to let go‚ he pistol whipped her several times and reportedly shot at least once in the air. The man was able to get away with the woman's suitcase after climbing back into a white SUV before he and the driver sped off. Police said the suitcase had about 1‚300 pieces of jewelry that were worth about $800‚000. In October‚ police arrested 24-year-old Julian Flores and his mother 55-year-old Lourdes Diaz. The arrest report said that Sanchez identified Diaz as a frequent customer who would inquire about the jewelry but never buy anything. Detectives said that Flores had posted an image to his Instagram account showing himself holding a gun and wearing a distinctive ring that had been stolen during the robbery. The report also said that when Diaz was pulled over by police‚ she had gold necklaces consistent with those stolen at the robbery. The victim suffered several injuries‚ which she showed to WTVJ-TV. "When he fired the gun‚ I was terrified‚” Sanchez said. "I thought to myself‚ 'he's going to kill me.'" Flores and Diaz are being held without bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. They are each facing one count of armed robbery with a dangerous weapon. Here's the video of the robbery: Like Blaze News?
