An interfaith coalition has offered prayers of solidarity to two evangelical Christians facing their third trial for declaring that homosexuality violates the Bible‚ a position prosecutors call “war crimes and crimes against humanity.” Despite two unanimous acquittals‚ Finland’s state prosecutor has taken an elderly member of parliament and a Lutheran bishop before the Supreme Court to answer for their traditional Christian beliefs on sexuality.  Dr. Päivi Räsänen‚ who has served in parliament for 29 years‚ and Bishop Juhana Pohjola of the Evangelical Lutheran Mission Diocese of Finland‚ are facing “spiritual persecution” for upholding the Scripture‚ said a letter signed by dozens of Christian and Jewish leaders. “Once again‚ you face unjust charges. For almost half a decade‚ you have confronted targeted legal harassment for simply living out your Christian faith‚ the direct result of not just political persecution but also spiritual persecution‚” says the letter‚ which was led by Advancing American Freedom and released today. “Now‚ despite twice being unanimously declared not guilty at the Helsinki District Court and the Helsinki Court of Appeals‚ the prosecutor has filed another appeal‚ potentially forcing a third trial at Finland’s Supreme Court.” Authorities have centered their legal case on a five-year-old social media post made by the member of parliament‚ a member of the Christian Democrats Party‚ asking why her Lutheran church body would take part in an LGBT “Pride 2019” event. Prosecutors dubbed the Bible verses in her tweet‚ a booklet the two wrote in 2004 expounding on biblical doctrine titled “Male and Female He Created Them: Homosexual Relations Challenge the Christian Concept of Humanity‚” as well as comments Räsänen made on the radio in December 2019 as “hate speech.” Räsänen and Pohjola were first acquitted by the Helsinki District Court on March 30‚ 2022. The three-judge panel ruled that prosecutors had violated the Christians’ right to freedom of expression contained in Section 12 of the Finnish Constitution‚ as well as noting the thorny legal questions posed if secular judges begin ruling on matters of religious doctrine. “It is not for the district court to interpret biblical concepts‚” the court declared. But within days‚ then-Prosecutor General Raija Toiviainen appealed the charges. Räsänen then faced a two-day trial last Aug. 31-Sept. 1. The Court of Appeals unanimously acquitted Räsänen and Pohjola on Nov. 14. Under the law‚ social media posts must be intended to offend‚ and “there must be an overriding social reason for interfering with and restricting freedom of expression‚” they ruled. The judges ordered the state to pay both defendants’ legal fees. Prosecutor had argued that the intent behind the expression of faith was irrelevant but the Court of Appeal explicitly rejected this reasoning‚ confirming – thankfully – that "Chapter 11‚ Section 10 of the Penal Code is punishable only if committed intentionally."— Paul Coleman (@Paul_B_Coleman) November 14‚ 2023 Finland’s current state prosecutor appealed the dismissal once again earlier this month. “It is shocking that the Finnish state prosecutor has decided to target MP Räsänen for a third time‚ because she politely expressed her religious beliefs in public‚” Arielle Del Turco‚ director of the Center for Religious Liberty at the Family Research Council—and who signed the letter—told The Washington Stand. “So far‚ the Finnish courts have been clear in affirming Räsänen’s right to express her religious beliefs. However‚ the process of being dragged through court is often the punishment itself.” The effort to continually prosecute the grandmother of 10 exposes the government’s intolerance and malice toward traditional Christian viewpoints‚ said Paul Coleman‚ executive director of ADF International‚ which is supporting Räsänen’s legal defense. “Dragging people through the courts for years‚ subjecting them to hourlong police interrogations‚ and wasting taxpayer money to police people’s deeply held beliefs has no place in a democratic society‚” said Coleman. “As is so often the case in ‘hate speech’ trials‚ the process has become the punishment.” The U.S. letter offers “prayers and encouragement” to the embattled pair “on behalf of the millions of Americans who support freedom of speech and freedom of religion.” The letter assures them that “you do not stand alone‚” because “each one of us stands alongside you‚” note its writers. “We are watching‚ and we are praying for you. The world is watching‚ and the world is praying for you.” The signatories hope their fellow believers‚ and all those who value freedom of conscience and expression‚ will make that promise real as the West falls progressively under the sway of illiberal secular repression. “Christians around the world should continue to pray for and voice their support for MP Räsänen‚” said Del Turco. The faith leaders signing the letter include Family Research Council President Tony Perkins; former U.S. Sen. Sam Brownback‚ R-Kansas; former U.S. Rep. Frank Wolf‚ R-Va.; Ken Blackwell‚ former ambassador to the United Nations Commission on Human Rights; and Rabbi Yaakov Menken of the Coalition for Jewish Values‚ among many others. The Lutheran pair’s case also attracted high-level support from Rep. Chip Roy‚ R-Texas‚ who named Räsänen‚ detransitioner Chloe Cole‚ collegiate swimming record-holder Riley Gaines‚ and concerned parent Scott Smith his personal “heroes” at FRC’s 2023 Pray Vote Stand Summit. “She gives you hope‚” said Roy. “She gives you a belief that we can stand up and stand athwart that kind of tyranny.” Räsänen has reflected on the words of Jesus to rejoice in suffering‚ taking pride that each trial has allowed her to quote and explain the Bible’s teachings in depth. “After my full exoneration in two courts‚ I’m not afraid of a hearing before the Supreme Court‚” said Räsänen. An “acquittal from the Supreme Court would set an even stronger positive precedent for everyone’s right to free speech and religion. A conservative president or Congress that does not defund public broadcasting does not understand what the moment requires—or‚ in the parlance of the day‚ they don’t know what time it is. Across the board‚ government must stop funding services set up with taxpayer money ostensibly to serve all Americans‚ but which cater only to one side. NPR is a prime example of this asymmetry. And because of its visibility‚ it’s a good candidate for the first symbolic act of resolve by new leadership. At this point‚ NPR doesn’t even try to show good faith. It expects conservative leaders to lack the backbone to take away the government teat—and sadly‚ this assumption is usually correct. NPR‚ therefore‚ feels free to act brazenly as the imperial tribune of the permanent bureaucracy‚ amplifying the woke mindset of bicoastal elites. NPR presents these views as truth—the “alternative facts” of the parasitic critical Marxist orthodoxy that‚ for the past three or four decades‚ has invaded the host of American cultural institutions.  Our elites “live in a bubble of their own construction‚” to quote a recent report by the Committee to Unleash Prosperity. “They’ve isolated themselves from everyday America’s realities to such a degree their views about what is and what should be happening in this country differ widely from the average American’s.” NPR has mightily contributed to erecting this wall of isolation. Take Adrian Florido’s entirely one-sided report on Puerto Rico’s supposed support for Palestinians. In it‚ we find out‚ for example‚ that Puerto Rico is “one place where the Palestinian cause has long had a well of support‚” and that is “because of their shared colonial histories.” Puerto Rico‚ you see‚ languishes in the chains not just of colonialism‚ but of what Florido calls “government-aided settler colonialism” because of the “displacement” of the natives. We also hear that “the U.S. military invaded and took control of Puerto Rico‚ then a Spanish colony‚ in 1898. To this day‚ it has only limited self-government.” Florido quotes three people‚ two of them pro-Palestinian activists (one of whom is herself half-Palestinian) and the third a Puerto Rican-born Princeton political anthropologist‚ Yarimar Bonilla‚ who sounds exactly as a Princeton political anthropologist would. Puerto Ricans‚ Bonilla says‚ “see a resonance with a population that is struggling to find sovereignty‚ struggling against an empire that doesn’t recognize itself as such.” Bonilla‚ an activist who has proudly supported Black Lives Matter‚ appears to take seriously the notion that an American empire exists somewhere out there. One of the two other activists‚ Ariana Gonzalez-Pelaez‚ told Florido that Puerto Ricans support Palestinians because they share a similar struggle. “Our similarities are very striking. And I feel very called to be here today‚” she said.  It’s not just that Florido doesn’t quote anyone who might offer a different view‚ it’s that he himself never pushes back on these fantastical propositions. Even if he buys into them—and he gives every indication that he does—he has an obligation to inform the listener that maybe‚ just maybe‚ there may be another take here.  NPR makes sure it shuts down the very‚ very few conservative views it ever entertains. See‚ for example‚ how Steve Inskeep constantly badgered former Bush administration official Alfonso Aguilar on Jan. 24. On the rare occasion when a conservative gets on‚ NPR is there to tell the bubble‚ “Don’t listen! What he’s saying isn’t true.” But since NPR is determined to keep another perspective on Puerto Rico from its audience‚ here it is. For starters‚ the U.S. involvement with Puerto Rico in 1898 could be depicted—more accurately‚ in my view—as a liberation from Spanish rule. Puerto Ricans began to rebel against their colonial masters as early as 1868. Violent incidents continued on the island against Spaniards and Spanish interests until the United States declared war on Spain in 1898 and took the island. The claims that Puerto Ricans suffer from “settler colonialism” are absurd. Puerto Rico is an “unincorporated territory” of the United States. Puerto Ricans cannot vote for president while residing on the island‚ but the majority that has moved to the mainland U.S. can indeed vote and are full Americans. They appear to at least enjoy their current status‚ when not supporting becoming the 51st state. Of the different referendums on the question of status‚ in 1952‚ 88% approved their island’s status; in 1967‚ 60% voted to remain a commonwealth vs. 6% who voted for independence; in 1993‚ 4.4% voted for independence; in 1998‚ 47% voted for statehood and 4.5% for independence; in 2012‚ they voted 61% for statehood and 5.5% for independence; and in 2017‚ they voted 97% for statehood and 1.35% for independence. Hardly the picture of an oppressed colonial people crying out to break free from the chains of a farcical American empire.  Gaza was also a self-ruling place until the terrorist attacks of Oct. 7. Talk of “shared colonial history” is invidious pap. Millions of Puerto Ricans have left the island to live in the mainland U.S. because they are Americans with a right to do so and are selling their property to people who want to buy it. This is not “displacement.” Until President Joe Biden threw the border open‚ they were the only Spanish-speaking people with that privilege. Moreover‚ there doesn’t appear to be any opinion poll showing how the 3 million Puerto Ricans on the island or the 5.6 million on the mainland feel about the events in Israel. Florido’s report follows several others on leftist sites such as Axios‚ but includes not a shred of evidence of this “well of support.” This theme is fed by the teeny-tiny minority that supports independence. “They are literally four cats with a great comms team‚ feeding a pliable media‚” says my friend and Puerto Rican analyst Jorge Bonilla. If you are an NPR listener‚ the network has created this universe where you hear only fantasies‚ unchecked by anything. The View’s back-and-forth position on the need for third parties could give viewers a serious case of whiplash. On Monday’s episode‚ the ABC hosts proved themselves to be hypocrites yet again when they suddenly weren’t for the existence of third-party candidates in the 2024 presidential race. This outcry against third parties came the same month they literally begged former Republican Congresswoman Liz Cheney to run third party to hurt former President Trump. This time‚ they feared for President Biden. Staunchly racist and anti-Semitic co-host Sunny Hostin feared for a repeat of 2016‚ saying she “just learned today” about how then-Green Party candidate Jill Stein had impressive enough margins that some say it harmed then-Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton: Yes. Yes. I am very concerned…But I just learned today‚ that when Jill Stein ran and it was Trump versus Hillary‚ there were three states‚ Michigan‚ Pennsylvania‚ and Wisconsin‚ where Stein's vote total exceeded Trump's margin of victory. So‚ had she perhaps not been part of it‚ Hillary Clinton would have been president. Faux conservative Ana Navarro recalled “when Ross Perot was a spoiler for George Herbert Walker Bush.” According to her hysterical take‚ the world couldn’t afford Trump getting elected president again because he’s not only an “existential threat to democracy” but also “to the universe!” “There's a lot of credible people who we know who’ve left No Labels now‚ including my husband‚ including Larry Hogan‚” she touted.     Normally a proponent for third parties‚ co-host Sara Haines declared: “This is not the time for a third party.” “Although‚ I'm on board for a split ticket third party going forward after this election. I would love that‚” she added. “We are a bipartisan situation right now. There is not a runway to bring in a third. Although Alyssa‚ I do concede polls show people are not super psyched about the candidates in general right now. But there's no room to swap it out‚” she warned. But all their doomsaying about how harmful third parties allegedly were was just an example of their hypocrisy and situational politics. Earlier this month‚ the cast (particularly Haines and moderator Whoopi Goldberg) literally begged Cheney to run as a third-party candidate to spoil the race to hurt Trump. “So I wonder would you ever consider‚ please‚ would you‚ please consider being that person? … Would you – please – I'm begging you. Look‚ I'm on one knee‚” Goldberg pleaded. Haines suggested she “would just take a good person” like Cheney‚ then proceeded to press her to run third party too: “Would you ever run for president?” And even before they were for third parties (when Cheney would be the candidate)‚ they were against them (when Democratic West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin was the one being floated). In July of last year‚ they viciously against the No Labels Party‚ because it could harm Biden. And in November‚ they lashed out at Manchin because there were rumors he was thinking of running third party. The other faux-conservative co-host‚ Alyssa Farah Griffin said the quiet part out loud and called out the fact that‚ “whenever this conversation comes up‚ it’s almost like we're all tacitly acknowledging that Biden is weaker than Trump. That’s what it sounds like to me‚ because if Trump is actually weaker in a general than Biden‚ wouldn't that mean that we shouldn't be worried he's going to lose more votes?” They didn’t like being confronted with the truth like that. The words “trans” and “four-year-old” should never ever be in the same sentence. The Church of England’s primary school admitted a "transgender" child to its classes when the child was just four years old. Parents of the child have allowed and encouraged him to live life as a girl despite his biologically male identity and now‚ three years later‚ word is spreading. According to a report by The Telegraph‚ the child’s biological sex was hidden from classmates but the administrative staff and teachers‚ and the parents (obviously‚ since they did this)‚ were in the know. The child joined at age four and was admitted as a little girl. Everyone was keeping the little boy’s secret until one of his friends‚ an actual little girl‚ found out her friend was actually a boy. The real little girl ended up suffering from stress-induced insomnia and constipation‚ her mother said‚ as well as having spurts of not talking or listening to the radio and episodes of hiding under tables. All signs point to the fact that the little girl was suffering emotionally. "The mother said her daughter was 'distraught' that her friend had 'lied' to her and that she had been 'holding hands with a boy‚'" The Telegraph indicated. Supposedly the little trans kid was “flashing their willy” at his friends and told them that his “dark secret” was that he is actually a boy. Obviously for a seven-year-old group of friends‚ that was traumatizing for the kids. “The fact that a boy was being enrolled as a girl aged four‚ that alone for me is a massive red flag. Because I don’t see how a child of that age can make that decision…to actually go through a social transition‚” the (real) little girl’s mother said about the situation. “I just want my daughter to be a child. The school’s actions have robbed her of this and that can never be given back.” The mother eventually took her daughter out of the school. Women and Equalities minister Kemi Badenoch told The Telegraph that the school’s actions may be in “breach of new government guidance.” “Government guidance is clear that social transitioning is not a neutral act and is certainly unsuitable for primary school-aged children. I will be making sure that the school is aware of government policy and the law when it comes to gender-questioning children‚” Badenoch said. Last month‚ the UK Government published draft guidelines for schools and how they should interact with the trans debate. The guidelines instructed teachers to not “exclude” parents if a student decides he or she thinks they want to change the gender and also says that teachers are not “compelled” to use a child’s preferred pronouns.  A Church of England spokesperson insisted that the guidance was meerly to prevent “bullying‚” not provide guidance to schools for “gender questioning children.” AKA‚ the Church of England schools seem to think they can do whatever they want when it comes to trans kids‚ even if it means keeping their true identity hidden from other students and their parents for years.  Related: Pay Attention‚ U.S.! U.K. Sets Guidelines for How to Deal with Trans Kids I mean that’s the same logic it seems to be using on the trans kid who’s apparently allowed to do and say whatever he pleases and seems to be unchecked or undisciplined at school‚ including exposing his "willy." Not to mention‚ this is all happening at one of the 4‚630 Church of England schools which are supposed to help facilitate"a Christian presence in every community." I'm unsure how a transgender four-year-old screams "Christian" but‚ I digress. All in all‚ it's clear that the trans student in this situation is prioritized over the safety and mental health and wellbeing of the rest of his class. He traumatized his friend‚ but who had to leave the school? The one who was traumatized‚ not the traumatizer. Now‚ I want to be clear that I honestly do feel bad for the "transgender child." He should've never been allowed and encouraged to go down a route like this in the first place. But it's 2024‚ and apparently the left thinks four-year-olds who can't even tie their shoes can pick their own gender.  This is sad.
