How Meditation Reshapes the Brain: Insights from a New Study

Researchers have found that people who practice mindfulness meditation have different brain activity than those who never meditate. Using electroencephalography, neuroscientists have observed differences in brain wave activity in the theta, alpha, and gamma frequency ranges between meditators and non-meditators. Long-term meditation practice produces lasting changes in neural processes that may underlie the cognitive and emotional benefits associated with mindfulness. Mindfulness meditation is the act of observing your breathing, body sensations, sounds around you, or your thoughts. In recent years, the method has gained popularity as a tool for combating stress, improving emotional well-being, and improving cognitive function. Mindfulness meditation has previously been shown to be associated with improved mental health and cognitive abilities, but the neurophysiological changes that provide these improvements are not fully understood. The researchers recruited 92 participants, including 48 meditators who had been practicing mindfulness for at least six months and 44 people who had not meditated or had practiced meditation minimally. During the EEG, the researchers used a new method to separate oscillatory activity from non-oscillatory background noise. The results showed significant differences between meditators and non-meditators in three of the four frequency ranges studied: theta, alpha and gamma. Large amplitudes were observed when measuring globally in all areas of the brain, as well as when examining the distribution of these brain waves throughout the head, PsyPost writes, citing a study by the Australian University. Theta brain activity, which is associated with attention and working memory, was found to be higher in those who meditated than in those who did not. The increase was greatest in the back of the brain, suggesting that neural processes associated with attention and information processing were enhanced in experienced meditators. In terms of alpha activity, meditators showed higher overall power, and activity in the frontal regions was higher than in the rest of the brain. This may indicate that meditators are better at controlling irrelevant or distracting thoughts. Gamma activity, which is associated with higher-order thinking and neural integration, was also found to be higher in the meditators. The increase was particularly noticeable in the frontal regions, suggesting possible neuroplastic changes associated with long-term meditation practice. Gamma waves are thought to play an important role in attention and integration of sensory information, suggesting that meditation may enhance these abilities over time. Interestingly, the study found no significant differences in beta activity, which is associated with alertness and arousal. Nor was there a difference in 1/f activity, a non-rhythmic measure of brain activity that reflects the balance of excitation and inhibition of neurons. The changes in meditators appear to be specific to theta, alpha, and gamma frequencies and do not indicate a general increase in brain activity across all frequency ranges. Donald Trump Pledges to Tell the Truth Behind the Drone Mystery

Donald Trump has vowed to tell the truth behind the New Jersey drone mystery, asserting that the “government knows what is happening.” The president-elect revealed that the drones, sighted in large numbers along the East Coast, have also appeared above his Bedminster golf course in New Jersey. Speaking from his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida, during a televised briefing, Trump promised to disclose the answers “one day into his administration,” referring to January 21. He criticized the current leadership, stating: “I think it’s ridiculous that [the Biden administration] us not telling you about what’s going on with the drones.” Trump emphasized that these mysterious drones are not limited to New Jersey, noting similar sightings in Virginia. The president-elect has previously suggested that the federal government may be responsible for the numerous drones observed near military facilities and residential areas. He declared, “The government knows what is happening,” and elaborated further: “Our military knows where they took off from. If it’s a garage, they can go right into that garage. They know where it came from and where it went.” Trump claimed the public is being deliberately kept in the dark, saying, “Our military knows and our president knows. And for some reason, they want to keep people in suspense,” according to reports by the Mirror. The growing prevalence of affordable quadcopter drones, often used recreationally, is believed to be a key driver behind the surge in sightings. Most of these drones are manufactured in China. Amid national security concerns, the US Commerce Department’s Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) is considering new regulations to restrict the sale of Chinese drones in the United States. The US Army has already banned its personnel from using drones made by China’s Dai-Jing Innovations company (DJI), citing “increased awareness of cyber vulnerabilities.” These budget-friendly drones routinely connect to DJI systems in China for updates and monitoring, raising concerns that the technology could be remotely “switched off.” Critics warn this could “blind” US forces in combat. While DJI’s cost-effective cargo drones, capable of carrying up to 60 pounds, dominate the market, they face little competition from Western manufacturers. Pentagon documents have labeled DJI a Chinese military asset, though the company denies these claims, asserting that it “is neither owned nor controlled by the Chinese military.” "I'm going to give you a report on drones about one day into the administration. Because I think that they're not telling you what's going on with the drones." – Donald Trump.#drones #UAP #UFO pic.twitter.com/KEcXgkUYX6 — Anomalien.com (@AnomalienCom) January 10, 2025 The post Donald Trump Pledges to Tell the Truth Behind the Drone Mystery appeared first on Anomalien.com.

Tim Allen Spars with Liberal Co-star Over Pelosi in New ABC Sitcom 'Shifting Gears'

Tim Allen is back with a brand-new comedy that premiered this week on ABC. Shifting Gears stars Allen (who also serves as executive producer) as Matt, a widowed entrepreneur who owns a classic car restoration business. Matt’s estranged daughter Riley (Kat Dennings) returns home with her children after a divorce that leaves her broke (no pun intended) and in need of her dad’s help.     One might wonder how Dennings and Allen will vibe given their different political stances but showrunner Michelle Nader told The Wrap her goal is to heal the generational divide: Tim is definitely the voice of a certain generation and Kat speaks to a different generation, so we get to examine that generational difference and their different perspectives on big life subjects we’re tackling. The Wrap continued: Indeed Allen returns in full force in Shifting Gears, with Dennings meeting his match at every turn when conversations turn to politics, social issues or how she’s raising her kids. TV Line agreed, stating: Shifting Gears finds a way to weave in Allen’s staunchly conservative political views, with his character Matt constantly ranting about how America is going down the tubes, complaining about everything from pickleball to mocktails… To the show’s credit, though, Matt isn’t just heralded as a patriotic hero who’s right about everything. He’s challenged on his views, with Dennings making a more than capable sparring partner. A perfect example of their dynamic comes when Riley asks her father, “Can we try to talk to one another like rational adults?” To which her father quips, “Have you watched the news lately? That’s not a thing anymore.” The writers deftly combined a heartfelt, tear-jerker scene with political sparring over former House speaker Nancy Pelosi as the father and daughter reminisce about their late wife/mom: Riley: I'm so sorry I haven't been there for you. Matt: Yeah. Riley: I wish I had been here more. Matt: Yeah. Thanks. Oh, thanks. Oh, boy. It's been really different here, alone. I think that's why I watch the news in the morning, you know, so I can hear a, a woman's voice, even though sometimes it's Nancy Pelosi. Riley: Yeah, ugh. It's annoying the way she's trying to save democracy. Let’s just hope Matt gets the last word in sometimes so any other false, leftist hyperbole doesn’t go unchecked like this one did. If you missed the pilot episode, you can catch it on Hulu, or watch the second airing tonight on ABC at 8 p.m. E.T.

MSNBC Host, Michael Mann Blame 'Addiction to Fossil Fuels' for LA Fire

MSNBC Host, Michael Mann Blame 'Addiction to Fossil Fuels' for LA Fire

As the Los Angeles-area wildfires continue to burn, the leftist media have found almost every possible way to explain what caused them, while ignoring the obvious facts. On Wednesday’s The 11th Hour, MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle brought in University of Pennsylvania professor and longtime climate alarmist Dr. Michael Mann to hypothesize about the fires as a direct effect of climate change and what he called an “addiction to fossil fuels.” Ruhle opened by stating that President-Elect Trump “falsely blamed President Biden and Governor Gavin Newsom for the wildfires.” She failed to mention, however, that his criticism was not entirely misplaced.   California had been suffering from poor water and forest management for years and the state neglected to initiate sufficient preventative measures. A 2021 investigation by CapRadio and NPR’s California Newsroom found that Newsom had overstated the number of treated acres with fuel breaks and prescribed burns by 690%. And the state has not built a new reservoir since 1979.     Dr. Mann asserted the fires were a “preventable tragedy” and that they resulted from the continued use of fossil fuels. This, according to him, led to an overlap between the fire season and the Santa Ana wind season as well as less rainfall, all of which he concluded “is tied to the large-scale warming of the planet from the burning of fossil fuels.” He went on to characterize Trump’s response as a “classic deflection” because he simply “doesn’t want to talk about climate change.” He ironically accused the president-elect of “trying to distract the public by talking about anything else” when the media was doing just that. Not a word was said about Newsom’s role in all of this or Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass’ incompetence coupled with her obvious absence from the city during the outbreak of the wildfires.  A CNN interview with Newsom showed the governor seemingly crumbling under the pressure of the disaster. When asked about the water shortages, he decided that “local folks are gonna figure that out": COOPER: “What is the situation with the water? Palisades ran out last night.” NEWSOM (throws hands up): “Local folks are gonna figure that out.” pic.twitter.com/O0AfSP6XW3 — Chief Nerd (@TheChiefNerd) January 9, 2025 Ruhle also omitted any reporting on the recent law enforcement and fire department budget cuts. Evidently, like the rest of the leftist media she was too desperate to find an explanation for the disaster that was more comfortable than the full truth. The transcript is below. Click "expand" to read: MSNBC’s The 11th Hour 01/08/2025 11:53:20 PM EST STEPHANIE RUHLE: Drought and intense winds are fueling the deadly California wildfires, and Donald Trump falsely blamed President Biden and Governor Gavin Newsom for them. For more, I want to bring in Dr. Michael Mann, he joins me now. He’s a Presidential Distinguished Professor of Earth and Environmental Science at the University of Pennsylvania and author of Our Fragile Moment: How Lessons from Earth's Past Can Help Us Survive the Climate Crisis. First, I want to get your take on these horrible fires, and how is climate change contributing to them? DR. MICHAEL MANN: Yeah, thanks, Stephanie. I’d say it's good to be with you, but we almost never have the news to discuss, do we?  RUHLE: No. MANN: You know, what–what we’re seeing play out is–is a tragedy. And it’s a preventable tragedy. It’s a result of the fact that we have continued to burn fossil fuels, elevate the levels of carbon pollution in the atmosphere to the point where we now have a fire season that stretches well into the winter, into the new year, and what we’re seeing now is that the fire season has expanded to the point where it’s overlapping with the Santa Ana wind season.  They didn’t used to overlap. The Santa Ana winds tend to occur outside of the dry season. But now we’re seeing an overlap, because the dry season’s getting longer. The rains are taking longer to come in the winter. It’s January and there’s barely been any rainfall over a large stretch of southern California. And all of that is tied to the large-scale warming of the planet from the burning of fossil fuels. RUHLE: Donald Trump is blaming President Biden and Governor Newsom for these fires. What’s your reaction? MANN: Yeah, of course he is. Um, you know, this is classic deflection because he doesn't want to talk about climate change. His incoming administration is doing everything they can to dismantle climate action in the U.S., to dismantle programs to incentivize clean energy, a move towards clean energy, climate solutions. And, so, he’s trying to distract the public by talking about anything else, by talking about the governor, by talking about the current president, by talking about land-use practices or raking of leaves, anything he can to distract the public so that they don't see this for what it is: a manifestation of our continued addiction to fossil fuels, an addiction that his administration hopes to maintain. RUHLE: Alright. Dr. Mann, thank you for joining us. Again, I would say it's good to see you, but I never see you on a good night. Thank you for your work. (...)

Meyers, Lydic Push Climate Alarmism, Attack Trump Amid Wildfires

NBC’s Seth Meyers and Comedy Central’s Desi Lydic both attacked President-elect Donald Trump on their respective Thursday editions of Late Night and The Daily Show for politicizing the Los Angeles wildfires with his attacks on President Joe Biden and Gov. Gavin Newsom. Both argued such attacks were not only unseemly but factually wrong; however, both blamed climate change for the fires, which is itself incorrect. Meyers introduced his Closer Look segment by lamenting, “I think it's also important to say, again, in this moment, that climate change is real. It is an imminent and existential threat to the lives and safety of Americans, and we must treat it like the crisis it is. Unfortunately, there are politicians who would rather spread lies about the emergency response. And I'm not going to name names, but Donald Trump. His name is Donald Trump.”     In Science an octet of authors wrote in 2021: Autumn and winter Santa Ana wind (SAW)–driven wildfires play a substantial role in area burned and societal losses in southern California. Temperature during the event and antecedent precipitation in the week or month prior play a minor role in determining area burned. Burning is dependent on wind intensity and number of human-ignited fires … One hundred percent of SAW fires were human caused, and in the past decade, powerline failures have been the dominant cause. Future fire losses can be reduced by greater emphasis on maintenance of utility lines and attention to planning urban growth in ways that reduce the potential for powerline ignitions. In other words, not climate change. Still, later on in the segment, an exasperated Meyers turned to Trump and his attacks on President Joe Biden, “I don't even know what to say anymore. I'm so over this guy. I'm running out of clever retorts, which brings us to a segment called ‘Shut up.’ Dude, you're so annoying. Just do us all a favor and shut up!” Meyers also added, “And by the way, I'm very aware that some on the right will accuse me of having Trump Derangement Syndrome. But he's the deranged one, not me, you see? I'm just reacting to his derangement. That's like saying Rick on The Walking Dead has a zombie derangement syndrome. Does he? Or is there just a zombie problem? And look, I realize I'm sounding a little deranged right now, but he's not even in office yet, and it's already starting again. The constant beat of his terrible behavior, and it's never going to stop.” Over at The Daily Show, Lydic introduced a clip of Trump by declaring, “There's been so many challenges as LA workers try to control these fires, like water shortages and manpower shortages. But there's one thing that we have an endless supply of: good old-fashioned, made in America blame. And of course one of the country’s leading blame producers is Donald Trump.”     After a video of Trump attacking Gov. Gavin Newsom’s delta smelt policy, where water is diverted to the ocean in order to save a tiny fish, Lydic proclaimed, “For the record, no, the LA fires have nothing to do with smelt. But in Trump's defense, words are hard, and smelt only has one syllable, while ‘climate change’ has three.” While Meyers may have admitted to having Trump Derangement Syndrome, he, Lydic, and the rest of the left also have Climate Change Derangement Syndrome, where any horrible weather event is spun as a justification for progressive social and economic engineering.  Here are transcripts for the January 9-taped shows: NBC Late Night with Seth Meyers 1/10/2025 12:42 AM ET SETH MEYERS: I think it's also important to say, again, in this moment, that climate change is real. It is an imminent and existential threat to the lives and safety of Americans, and we must treat it like the crisis it is. Unfortunately, there are politicians who would rather spread lies about the emergency response. And I'm not going to name names, but Donald Trump. His name is Donald Trump. … I don't even know what to say anymore. I'm so over this guy. I'm running out of clever retorts, which brings us to a segment called "Shut up." Dude, you're so annoying. Just do us all a favor and shut up! ANNOUNCER: This has been "Shut up."  MEYERS: And by the way, I'm very aware that some on the right will accuse me of having Trump Derangement Syndrome. The constant beat of his terrible behavior, and it's never going to stop. It's just like – DONALD TRUMP: Drip, drip, drip.  *** Comedy Central The Daily Show 1/9/2025 11:04 PM ET DESI LYDIC: But of course the story dominating the news right now is the Los Angeles wildfires. There's been so many challenges as LA workers try to control these fires, like water shortages and manpower shortages. But there's one thing that we have an endless supply of: good old-fashioned, made in America blame. And of course one of the country’s leading blame producers is Donald Trump. DONALD TRUMP: I've been trying to get Gavin Newsom to allow water to come. You'd have tremendous water out there, they send it out to the Pacific because they are trying to protect a tiny little fish, which is in other areas, by the way, called the smelt, and for the sake of the smelt, they have no water. LYDIC: Okay, we will come back to the smelt, but can we just talk about how weird it is that this senator is staring so hard at Trump the entire time he's talking? That's the kind of behavior that makes me change subway cars. And for the record, no, the LA fires have nothing to do with smelt. But in Trump's defense, words are hard, and smelt only has one syllable, while "Climate change" has three.

McGregor’s cocaine confession: A shocking twist in his legal battle

Renowned MMA fighter Conor McGregor has found himself in some serious trouble. Not only is the former UFC two-division champion facing a civil lawsuit in Dublin’s high court over a 2018 sexual assault complaint after local prosecutors decided not to press criminal charges — he has now added drug use to his criminal resume. In court, McGregor admitted to using cocaine and confirmed having a bag of the drug on the night of the alleged incident. While McGregor claims that the sexual act with the plaintiff was consensual, a civil court jury awarded the woman nearly 250,000 euros, which is $257,000, for the alleged assault. Now, the question remains as to whether or not McGregor’s career is going to take a hit from this. “Joe Rogan basically said, ‘I don’t know that Conor is ever going to fight again,’” Hilary Kennedy of “4-Minute Buzz” tells Pat Gray of “Pat Gray Unleashed.” “He said because he’s using cocaine. He said a lot of fighters, especially towards the end of their careers, turn to drugs.” However, Rogan may be wrong. “This morning I saw the headline, ‘Conor McGregor confirms huge boxing fight against Logan Paul and reveals UFC comeback is on after civil rape case,’” Kennedy explains, adding, “He’s going to fight Logan Paul in India. So we’ll see.” Want more from Pat Gray?To enjoy more of Pat's biting analysis and signature wit as he restores common sense to a senseless world, subscribe to BlazeTV — the largest multi-platform network of voices who love America, defend the Constitution, and live the American dream.
