Georgia’s Democratic Voters Render Their Verdict on Fani Willis

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, the Georgia prosecutor who brought racketeering charges against former President Donald Trump and his political allies, won her Democratic primary Tuesday in the face of scandal.  Meanwhile, the judge in the Fulton County case against Trump, Scott McAfee, was also on the ballot—just two months after his ruling allowed Willis to continue with the case, despite the fact that she was in an undisclosed relationship with the lawyer she had hired to prosecute Trump.   These local races gained national attention not only because of the Trump case, but because of personal and professional scandal surrounding Willis over the revelations of her affair with Nathan Wade, the man she hired as special prosecutor to go after Trump for trying to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election in Georgia.  The judge made what was considered a mixed ruling in March that the Trump case could go forward only if Willis or Wade recused themselves. So, Wade left the case. On Tuesday, Willis defeated Christian Wise Smith, a former county prosecutor who previously unsuccessfully sought the Democratic nomination for Georgia attorney general in 2022. He also previously lost to Willis in the Fulton County Democrat primary for district attorney in 2020.  The Associated Press called the race at 7:31 p.m. BREAKING: Fani Willis wins the Democratic Party primary in Georgia for District Attorney, Atlanta Judicial Circuit. #APRaceCall at 7:31 p.m. EDT.— AP Politics (@AP_Politics) May 21, 2024 In the upcoming November general election, Willis now faces Courtney Kramer, a lawyer who didn’t have a challenger in the Republican primary for district attorney in the heavily Democratic jurisdiction. Willis was first elected in 2020. She has faced controversies beyond the Trump case that include the prosecution of rapper Young Thug and complaints by the liberal American Civil Liberties Union about living conditions in the Fulton County Jail.  Fulton County Superior Judge Scott McAfee presides during a hearing in the case of the State of Georgia v. Donald John Trump at the Fulton County Courthouse on Feb. 27 in Atlanta, Georgia. (Photo: Brynn Anderson/Getty Images) McAfee faced Robert Patillo II, a Georgia civil rights lawyer and radio host. One candidate for the judgeship, defense attorney Tiffani Johnson, was disqualified but was fighting the disqualification, according to The New York Times.  Judicial races in Georgia are nonpartisan. McAfee is a former state inspector general appointed to the bench by Gov. Brian Kemp in December 2022 to fill a vacancy.  The Willis-Wade controversy came up after one of the defendants—former Trump White House and campaign aide Michael Roman—filed a legal motion asking for both to be disqualified from the case.  Willis hired Wade in November 2021 for $250 per hour. Wade has billed Willis’ office for more than $650,000 in legal work. Wade and Willis went on several vacations, cruises, and flights to destinations that included Belize, Aruba, and the Bahamas, which raised accusations that Willis personally benefited from the financial arrangement. Trump and Roman were among 19 people charged under the state’s Racketeering Influencing and Corrupt Organizations Act, or RICO, in August 2023 by a Fulton County grand jury for challenging the 2020 presidential election results in Georgia.  McAfee determined in March that the Trump allies hadn’t shown an actual conflict of interest with Willis employing Wade but said, “the established record “highlights a significant appearance of impropriety that infect the current structure of the prosecution team.” The post Georgia’s Democratic Voters Render Their Verdict on Fani Willis appeared first on The Daily Signal.

Maddow’s Pro-Fani Electioneering, Disguised As A ‘Sermon’ on Democracy

Maddow’s Pro-Fani Electioneering, Disguised As A ‘Sermon’ on Democracy

MSNBC host Rachel Maddow indulged her desire to electioneer for Democrats, disguising it as an impassioned defense of Democracy™ and rule of law. The beneficiary of this electioneering was none other than Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis. This sample, from the end of Maddow’s indulgent pre-interview screed pretty much sums up the entire venture: RACHEL MADDOW: And in the, you know, noble, alternate version of this history that we’d like to imagine we would be part of, the whole country would be up in arms about Georgia and about new York and about all of these cases, telling these people to back off the judges, back off the witnesses and the jurors. Back off the prosecutors. Back off Fani Willis. Protect these cases. Protect the rule of law. We imagine that's who we are as a country, but we are not showing it. We are not standing up to defend these people. At least not yet. The underlying idea behind this monologue is that it is un-American to question the weaponization of government against the president’s chief political opponent. This is a far cry from the anti-war left of the early 2000’s, which asserted time and again that dissent was the greatest democratic virtue. That virtue has devolved to unquestioning obedience. The interview itself offered little more than a platform for Willis to air her grievances. Maddow offered superficial questions such as:  What has life been like over the past year? What is it like to be a national lightning rod? Have you (Willis) changed? Is former Governor Roy Barnes representing you against the oversight commission? One question missing from this softball session: whether Willis regretted hiring her lover, and the ethical entanglements that emerged subsequent to this decision. Maddow preempted that by musing that people fall in love in the workplace. And when you think about it, what is an ethics scandal when DEMOCRACY ITSELF IS ON THE LINE?!11!!11!? The motive for this interview, far from any defense of Fani Willis or the legal system or Democracy™ and rule of law, becomes clear on X, several minutes before Willis comes on the air: "Every time I walk into a courtroom I am underestimated... but that can be a powerful thing. They never see it coming." I was just on @maddow to release our full three-minute 2024 re-election campaign ad. Please take a look, then pitch in to help us show it to more voters so we… pic.twitter.com/qMaFAwYDaX — Fani T. Willis (@FaniforDA) May 21, 2024 The interview served little purpose other than to provide Willis a platform from which to electioneer ahead of the Georgia primary election, wherein she faces a challenger- an in-kind political contribution disguised as an interview. This is Regime Journalism at its worst.

ABC Prescribes Suicide and Crisis Hotline to Youth With ‘Eco Anxiety’

ABC Prescribes Suicide and Crisis Hotline to Youth With ‘Eco Anxiety’

On this Tuesday’s ABC News Live (part of ABC’s streaming service), chief meteorologist and chief climate correspondent Ginger Zee worked to legitimize so-called “Eco Anxiety” as a burgeoning mental illness. Touching upon the weather from this past weekend which left areas of the country with notable damage, ABC chose to view the situation through the lens of Climate Change focusing instead on the stress and anxieties of those who fear the so-called issue. To top off the story, which in truth seemed more like a plight to worry the general public more than properly inform them, anchor Diane Macedo concluded the segment by listing the suicide and crisis hotline, equating the stress over the climate with such serious issues which the hotline was originally intended.         Unsurprisingly, Macedo attested the weather from this past weekend to Climate Change and without truly explaining the destruction of such events as a tornado and major hail storm. She instead turned the story over to Ginger Zee, who proceeded to introduce a fairly new problem sweeping the country: “Eco Anxiety.” Climate Change, as explained in the segment by Dr. Josh Wortzel, of the American Psychiatric Association, may now affect the mental health of many who are preoccupied by it. “A lot of young people are thinking about how this is going to impact their futures, their safety, the idea of wanting to have children,” he said. Psychological impacts besides the trauma of actually living through a natural disaster included what Zee stated as Eco Anxiety, or the “mental distress” which one may suffer from “as they watch the world grapple with climate change.” Zee spoke with young people who discussed their anxieties surrounding the issue explaining that they worry for their future surrounding the weather: ELEANA KOSTAKIS:  I feel anxiety constantly about the weather, about like the weather overheating. ZACH KAPLAN:  I do get stressed fairly often. People expect us to be the generation that fixes the problem that no one asked for. Taking a step back one can easily see the absurdities which people have now become victims of. Anxiety, as defined by the American Psychiatric Association as “anticipation of a future concern.” The media has become so fixated on a story that sells and it is fed by fear. With each new storm or basic weather coverage, one may be bombarded with a looming fear of this ever-changing issue of Global Warming and Climate Change. It is no wonder that with all of this coverage, young and impressionable minds find themselves anxious about such an unpredictable idea. Yet to take such simple worries and aggrandize them to the level of suicide and major mental crisis is truly ignorant and absurd. The nationwide issue of mental health and suicide must not be equivocated with a worry for tomorrow's forecast, our reporters of all people should understand that. Here is the transcript for Tuesday morning's show ABC News Live  5/21/2024 9:21 AM ET DIANE MACEDO: And researchers now say climate change can impact your mental health in three different ways. As part of mental health awareness month, we are looking at how to identify and manage eco anxiety. Chief climate correspondent Ginger Zee has the details. [Cuts to Video] GINGER ZEE: There are a variety of consequences a changing climate can have on people's mental health. It's a growing area of research, but the American Psychiatric Association says that impacts fall into three buckets. DR. JOSH WORTZEL: There are the direct impacts of heat on the brain and the prevalence of mental illness. There are indirect effects that are the many ripples of putting carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. And then there are psychological impacts.  ZEE: One of the psychological impacts: trauma from living through an extreme disaster. Some also struggle with mental distress. Sometimes called eco anxiety, as they watch the world grapple with climate change. ELEANA KOSTAKIS: I feel anxiety constantly about the weather, about like the weather overheating. ZACH KAPLAN: I do get stressed fairly often. People expect us to be the generation that fixes the problem that no one asked for. WORTZEL: A lot of young people are thinking about how this is going to impact their futures, their safety, the idea of wanting to have children. ZEE: Wortzel noted that there are ways to cope. Number one, make sure your physical needs, like cooling and hydration, are met. And also ask your mental health care provider. They likely have therapy specifically addressing climate change. [Cuts to Live] MACEDO: All right. Thanks to Ginger Zee for that report. And if you or someone you know is in crisis, free, confidential help is available 24/7. Call or text. The national lifeline at nine, eight, eight.

Woman admits to lying about sexual assault and putting innocent man in jail for a month, Pennsylvania police say

A woman is facing multiple charges after she admitted to lying about a sexual assault that landed an innocent man in jail for a month, according to Pennsylvania police. 20-year-old Anjela Borisova Urumova of Bristol Township told police that she had been attacked on April 16 at the parking lot of Redner's grocery store in Middletown Township. Urumova said a man had grabbed her from behind, punched her in the face, and dragged her to his truck while pulling her pants down before she was able to get away from him, according to a release from the Bucks County District Attorney's Office at the time. 'Cellphone and video from surveillance cameras at the store contradicted her claims.' Middletown Township Police used the description of the truck to track down 41-year-old Daniel Pierson, who matched the description Urumova gave. A relative of Pierson's also owned a truck that matched the description Urumova gave. "Pierson is known to police to be a methamphetamine user," said the district attorney's office at the time. He was arrested fewer than 24 hours after the report and prosecutors filed a slew of charges against him including criminal attempt to commit rape by forcible compulsion. Pierson was given a bond of under $1 million and booked into the Bucks County Correctional Facility. The truth comes out A month later after police began poking holes in her story, Urumova allegedly admitted that she had lied about the attack. Police said that the data obtained from her cellphone and video from surveillance cameras at the store contradicted her claims. When police confronted Urumova about the inconsistencies on Friday, she admitted that she made up the story according to new charging documents filed Monday. All of the charges against Pierson were dropped, and he was released from jail on Friday. She also admitted to lying about an injury she had received and falsely blamed on Pierson. "Her grandmother, who Urumova claimed suffered from dementia, did not recognize her as she entered the house and threw a plastic object at her, striking her in the lip. This incident allegedly caused the laceration to her lip that she later blamed on Pierson," the criminal complaint stated. When asked why she lied about the incident, Urumova allegedly said that she thought Pierson was "creepy" when she had previously seen him in the parking lot of her previous employer. She also claimed that she had been planning to come clean sometime before the matter went to court. She was charged with two counts of false reports and three counts of unsworn falsification to authorities, in addition to other charges. Pierson spent 31 days in jail. Milwaukee news team catches wild moment driver crashes stolen car and runs away

A team of reporters for TMJ4 News in Milwaukee caught the moment a pair of alleged thieves crashed a stolen car while doing a story about an unrelated shooting that took place in the area. Reporter Kaylee Staral was interviewing a local when the car crashed into a parked car on the opposite side of the lane. Two men got out of the vehicle, but the one on the passenger side appeared to have suffered an injury from the crash. The driver left the injured man behind and ran away, attempting to cover up his face. The injured man crawled out of the car. Two bystanders then attempted to pull him away from the wreckage by grabbing onto his legs. 'That car could've killed somebody.' Milwaukee Police confirmed to Staral the car had been stolen. TMJ4 reported the impact of the car was strong enough to cause the parked minivan to hit an unmarked Milwaukee police squad car. The passenger is reported to be 16 years old. — (@) "The passenger in that video that you just showed me, he couldn't even get up; he couldn't even move," Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson said in response to the video. "He tried to get out of the car, and he collapsed. You don't want that to be your kid or a kid you care about. Let's have these conversations, and let's put a stop to this." "You could see the first kid, the driver, he got out and he ran. I've never seen something like that before," eyewitness Mariam McEachern, who was standing only feet away from the collision, told TMJ4. "That car could've killed somebody. It ran onto the grass; there were children on the grass." Car theft is a big issue for Milwaukee despite being down 41%. Toward the end of 2023, the city reported 5,838 cars had been stolen, according to WISN. Like Blaze News? Bill Maher stuns liberal audience when he AGREES with Harrison Butker’s speech

Harrison Butker’s commencement speech has angered leftists across the country, but some unlikely characters have come out in support of the Kansas City Chiefs kicker. Butker spent his speech talking about the beauty of motherhood, how grateful he is for his wife, and promoting what Dave Rubin of "The Rubin Report" calls “basic stuff.” “Being a mother, raising a family, being a decent person, and how that’s kind of better than perhaps the bill of goods that so many women have been sold,” Rubin says, summarizing Butker’s speech. Even Bill Maher, an atheist and lifelong bachelor who has made it known he doesn’t care for children, agrees with Butker’s speech. “I don’t see what the big crime is. I really don’t. And I think this is part of the problem people have with the left is that lots of people in this country are like this,” Maher began. “He’s saying some of you may go on to lead successful careers, but a lot of you are excited about this other way that people, everybody used to be, and now can’t that just be a choice too?” Maher continued. “And I feel like they feel very put upon, like there’s only one way to be a good person and that’s to get an advanced degree from one of those factories like Harvard,” he added. Rubin has come to expect these sane liberal takes from Maher and isn’t surprised he got this one right too. “Bill gets it. So, that’s the good news there. The average liberal sees that, knows that these are inherent truths that we all know,” he says. Mark Levin: Obama and Biden’s immigration policies are ‘suicide,’ led to anti-Semitic protests

Pro-Palestinian protestors targeted the Met Gala to call for an intifada, which is only adding to the rise in anti-Semitic events occurring in the U.S. Mark Levin can’t help but notice that many of the protestors are Palestinians themselves, which might have a little something to do with the policies of a former president. “In the latter years, the Obama administration ... focused on increasing the number of people who would be allowed to come into the United States from Muslim and Arab-Muslim parts of the world,” Levin explains, adding, “and he succeeded.” “The percentage of Muslim immigrants hugely increased out of proportion with the numbers in the United States, and so, Obama did that. He did that intentionally,” he says. Now, the Biden administration is following in Obama’s footsteps. “We know that Biden and Blinken have a plan to import people from Gaza into the United States,” Levin says, asking, “Now, why would we do that?” “Why in the hell would we bring people to the United States, 87% of the population of which supports Hamas,” he says, referencing a recent survey. “And about that percentage supports October 7.” Both the Biden and Obama administrations' immigration policies have completely ignored what America was built on and what it stands for. “This is our country. We’re the citizenry. We support immigration but with terms and standards and requirements. We get to decide who comes. We get to vet you. We get to decide if you’ll be a contributor, if you will be a taxpayer, if you will comply with our law,” Levin says. “You don’t get to come to our country, at least theoretically, and impose your will, plant your flag, take down our flag, take over our institutions and our culture, receive money from enemy governments and enemy societies to use here in our own country,” he continues, adding, “That’s called suicide.” Want more from Mark Levin? Pope Francis: US conservatives have a ‘suicidal attitude’

On a recent segment of "60 Minutes," Pope Francis gave a serious critique when asked about the conservative bishops in the United States who oppose his new efforts to revisit teachings and traditions. “Conservative is one who clings to something and does not want to see beyond that. It is a suicidal attitude, because one thing is to take tradition into account, to consider situations from the past, but quite another is to be closed up inside a dogmatic box,” the pope said. Pat Gray and Keith Malinak of "Pat Gray Unleashed" are shocked to say the least. “If you can’t depend on the pope to cling to the past, what’s the point of the Catholic Church?” Malinak asks. Gray believes that the answer to whether or not the pope is actually Catholic is now “definitively no.” “That’s a Marxist trick right there. Don’t answer the criticism, flip it back and go after the people who are criticizing you,” Malinak adds. After being asked what gives the pope hope, he gave another answer that draws his allegiance to God into question. “People are fundamentally good. We are all fundamentally good. Yes, there are some rogues and sinners, but the heart itself is good,” the pope said. “I thought we were all sinners,” Malinak says, confused. “There’s some rogues?” “There’s some rogue people that sin,” Gray adds.
