56 Dems Help Pass Another House Border Measure

Dozens of House Democrats assisted Republicans in passing a bill on Tuesday that aims to shore up border security in yet another display of bipartisanship on the contentious issue. The legislation‚ which seeks to establish new penalties for individuals who engage in high-speed vehicle chases while fleeing Border Patrol agents within 100 miles of the border‚ secured a 271-154 majority vote. A tally by the House clerk showed 215 Republicans and 56 Democrats voted in support of the bill while 154 Democrats and no Republicans voted against it. Rep. Juan Ciscomani (R-AZ) said he was “thrilled” that his Agent Raul Gonzalez Officer Safety Act‚ which he named after a Border Patrol agent killed in a 2022 ATV crash while pursuing a group of illegal immigrants in Texas‚ passed with bipartisan support. “Smugglers along the border have led federal and Arizona law enforcement on high-speed chases — and some of these pursuits have ended with deadly consequences‚” said Rep. Greg Stanton (D-AZ) in a post to X‚ adding that he voted to pass the bill “to institute strong new federal penalties.” One Democrat who opposed the bill was Rep. Mike Quigley (D-IL). “I’m ready to work together to make effective changes to our immigration policies‚” Quigley said in a post to X. “However‚ the Agent Raul Gonzalez Officer Safety Act that Republicans passed today isn’t a solution. It’s a partisan messaging bill crafted in bad faith to unfairly target immigrants.” Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) has introduced a companion bill in the upper chamber. Lawmakers said the National Border Patrol Council and other law enforcement groups support the legislation. CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP Some of the Democrats who backed the House bill were among the 14 who broke ranks earlier this month and joined with most Republicans in voting to denounce the Biden administration’s “open-borders policies.” Passage of the Agent Raul Gonzalez Officer Safety Act came as a House committee considered two articles of impeachment against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas over his handling of the border crisis. It also took place as Senate negotiators worked to hash out a bipartisan deal coupling aid for U.S. allies‚ such as Ukraine and Israel‚ with border security reforms. “Today the House voted to pass the Agent Raul Gonzalez Officer Safety Act which would impose criminal and immigration penalties against any illegal immigrant who intentionally evades a federal officer while driving‚” House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) said in a post to X. “The House stands shoulder-to-shoulder with every law enforcement officer working to secure the border.”

49ers Star’s Wife Lands NFL Deal After Making One-Of-A-Kind Coats For Taylor Swift And Brittany Mahomes

San Francisco 49ers star Kyle Juszczyk’s wife‚ Kristin‚ has landed an NFL deal after designing one-of-a-kind Chiefs-themed coats for Taylor Swift and Brittany Mahomes that went viral. NFL representatives confirmed to Page Six that the fullback’s wife has scored a licensing deal‚ signing for an undisclosed amount with the league to allow her to use NFL logos on her custom-made numbers. Over the years‚ Juszczyk would share numerous posts on her social media of her unique pieces she made for herself to wear to 49ers games. After making a custom puffer jacket for Taylor Swift‚ Kristin Juszczyk has landed a licensing deal with the NFL. https://t.co/tTx95MZiQl — TODAY (@TODAYshow) January 31‚ 2024 Earlier in the 2023 season‚ she decided to make a puffer vest for fellow 49ers star Deebo Samuels and on January 7‚ she posted a 49ers jersey puffer jacket. Her designs caught the eye of Brittany Mahomes‚ who reached out to the designer for a one-of-a-kind puffer jacket. Kristin would later post on her social media that she decided along with the #15 Mahomes-themed coat‚ she would take her shot and make a similar one for Brittany’s pal Swift‚ but with the singer’s boyfriend‚ Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce’s #87 on it. Swift and Brittany Mahomes then hit the AFC Wild Card Game in freezing temperatures in Kansas City to watch the Chiefs take on the Miami Dolphins while rocking the stunning puffer jackets‚ which ended up going viral. Juzsczyk’s husband was one of the biggest promoter’s of her work‚ sharing under the posts about the jackets that it was his wife who made them. The designer later posted a video on Instagram‚ showing behind-the-scenes work that went into the video creating the custom jackets and reacting to the response she’s gotten. CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP “An honor of a lifetime!” Kristin captioned her post. “Thank you Taylor Swift and Brittany Mahomes.” The images made Kristin’s Instagram explode to 800‚000 followers‚ up by more “than 1‚476% from last season‚” Sportico noted. So far during the 2023 season‚ Jusczyk said she’s designed for — outside of Samuels‚ Swift and Mahomes — Simone Biles‚ Brandon Aiyuk‚ and Taylor Lautner. Kyle and Kristin tied the knot in 2019 and she celebrated their four year wedding anniversary in July‚ sharing a post on Instagram of her stunning wedding dress and day.

Biden Ripped After Admin Leaks What Its Plans Are For Military Response

President Joe Biden told reporters on Tuesday that he has made his decision on how he plans to retaliate against Iranian-backed terrorists in the Middle East who murdered three U.S. soldiers this week‚ wounding dozens more‚ in a suicide drone attack. Biden said that he holds Iran‚ the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism‚ responsible for the deaths of the Americans “in the sense that they’re supplying the weapons to the people who did it.” Officials told CBS News that the suicide drone attack was successful because the drone flew behind a U.S. drone that was returning to the base after a mission. Because the U.S. drone was returning‚ the base temporarily took parts of its air defense system offline so the drone would not be shot down. The enemy drone exploited this gap and struck the barracks while the soldiers slept. “Officials say plans call for the U.S. to launch a real bombing campaign‚ not just another round of one and done retaliatory strikes of the kind it has conducted so far‚” CBS News reported. “Once it begins‚ the bombing is likely to continue for a number of days.” President Biden said he has reached a decision on the U.S. response to the drone attack that killed three American soldiers in Jordan. The president said he holds Iran responsible for the attack‚ but emphasized the world does not need a wider conflict in the Middle East. pic.twitter.com/BlOlxgolG2 — CBS Evening News (@CBSEveningNews) January 31‚ 2024 Andrea Stricker‚ Deputy Director &; Research Fellow at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies’ (FDD) Nonproliferation &; Biodefense program‚ slammed the Biden administration for once again tipping off the enemy about what its plans were. “Having let these attacks go on for so long—resulting in the deaths of three service members—the administration must now ‘shock the system’ of the regime to deter further attacks‚” Stricker told The Daily Wire. “The blow must be so devastating that Tehran orders its proxies to stand down.” CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP “Anything less than that will ensure this cycle continues and brings the regional war Washington hopes to avoid‚” she continued. “The administration is too deliberately telegraphing its desire for restraint. The adversary needs to believe we are both able and willing to use major force to avenge these deaths and prevent additional ones.”

Cruz: Biden’s Border Crisis Is So Bad He Makes Obama’s Border Crisis Seem ‘Minuscule’

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) said this week that President Joe Biden’s border crisis is so dire‚ it makes former President Barack Obama’s border crisis seem “minuscule” by comparison. Cruz’ remarks‚ which he made during his “Verdict” podcast‚ came after U.S. Customs and Border Protection released numbers late last week showing the more than 302‚000 illegal aliens were encountered on the U.S. southern border last month‚ by far the highest number in history. “Listen‚ illegal immigration was a problem under Barack Obama‚ was a serious problem under Barack Obama‚ but I gotta say‚ compared to now‚ it’s night and day‚” Cruz said. “The Obama immigration problems seem quaint‚ that they are minuscule compared to what is happening now. The order of magnitude — I’ve joked multiple times that Joe Biden has done something I thought was impossible. He’s made me miss Barack Obama.” Cruz said that outside of DACA‚ Obama “by and large‚ followed the law.” “For people crossing illegally into the country‚ Barack Obama deported millions of people‚” Cruz said. “If you remember‚ during the Obama administration‚ the Left got very mad. They called him the ‘deporter in chief.’ And that made a difference. What has happened here under Joe Biden‚ and we’ve never seen a president do this in over 200 years of our nation’s history. There has never been a president that utterly and completely defies U.S. law‚ and lets people go by massive numbers.” CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP “So for example‚ there’s an authority under federal immigration law called parole authority‚ which is‚ you can release people in limited and special circumstances‚” Cruz continued. “Under Obama‚ he would parole roughly 5‚000 illegal immigrants a year. Under Trump‚ it was a comparable number. How much Biden is doing? About 800‚000 a year. He took Obama’s 5‚000 a year and he blew it up to 800‚000. They’ve made a decision‚ ‘We are going to allow an invasion.'”

Unlocking the fountain of youth: the remarkable role of sleep in longevity

In this article‚ we reveal centenarian secrets to longevity‚ including eating habits‚ daily activity‚ and more. Dr. Seema Bonney‚ founder of the Anti-Aging &; Longevity Center of Philadelphia‚ adds a crucial element to the mix: “If there’s any one positive thing we can do in terms of slowing down the aging process‚ sleep is really up there.” While we generally think of sleep as a passive activity‚ it actually creates a biological symphony within our bodies. Our brains eliminate aberrant proteins while we sleep‚ hormones necessary for development and repair are released‚ and our immune systems prepare for defense. Recent research has even identified sleep as a critical component in heart health‚ stressing its importance to general well-being. Sleep’s importance in immunity Dr. Bonney stresses the intricate link between sleep and immunity: “Optimization of sleep and sleep hygiene is really vital to keeping your immune system healthy.” Countless studies have demonstrated the enormous impact of sleep on our ability to fight diseases‚ confirming its importance in the quest for longevity. Beyond the Zzz’s It turns out that sleep is more than just lovely dreams. Dr. Bonney explains the several advantages of getting a good night’s sleep. It can‚ over time‚ support things like weight maintenance‚ blood sugar control‚ and cognitive function. This nocturnal magic expands its scope‚ providing a comprehensive approach to well-being. Despite accumulating evidence‚ many people continue to underestimate the importance of sleep. Dr. Bonney encounters this attitude frequently: “I hear so many people say things like‚ ‘I’ll sleep when I’m dead.’ And the truth is‚ you will be dead sooner if you don’t sleep.” Creating your sleep sanctuary Recognizing that sleep needs vary‚ the optimal time for excellent sleep is between seven and nine hours per night. However‚ it is not only about the quantity. Dr. Bonney emphasizes the need for consistent sleep schedules‚ indicating that long-lived persons frequently follow precise sleep-wake rhythms. The art of prioritizing sleep When the goal is to live a longer‚ healthier life‚ putting sleep first becomes an art. Dr. Bonney recommends electronic curfews‚ adjusting the sleep environment‚ and researching sleep-promoting substances. The key is progress‚ not perfection‚ and it’s never too late to begin your journey to improved sleep. Dr. Bonney proposes additional strategies for longevity‚ recognizing that it is not simply determined by the amount of sleep one gets. The holistic approach to sleep includes limiting caffeine consumption‚ supporting gut health‚ and embracing sunlight during the day. The restorative power of night A good night’s sleep appears to be the key to a longer life. It’s not only how many hours you spend in bed; it’s also about how well and consistently you sleep. Dr. Bonney’s views serve as a reminder that prioritizing sleep is an investment in both short-term and long-term health. So‚ start your nightly rituals now for a longer‚ more rested life. The post Unlocking the fountain of youth: the remarkable role of sleep in longevity first appeared on The Optimist Daily: Making Solutions the News.

How a pioneering MRI ‘signature’ predicts dementia years before symptoms develop

In a major step toward predicting dementia before its debilitating symptoms appear‚ researchers revealed an MRI ‘signature’ that could act as a warning‚ pinpointing the risk of getting the disease five to 10 years in advance. This unique biomarker not only offers early detection but also opens the door to treatment therapies that could potentially slow the evolution of this widespread ailment. Decoding the silent threat: how brain MRIs hold the key Dementia‚ a silent disease that is becoming more prevalent as the world’s population ages‚ has prompted researchers to look for early detection methods. Researchers are examining the complex realm of brain MRIs‚ comparing scans from people with and without dementia. The goal is to discover a distinct ‘signature’ that could signal the danger of dementia long before symptoms appear. Early detection is critical: a global dementia initiative With an aging global population‚ the need to address dementia’s public health impact has never been greater. Alzheimer’s disease‚ the most common type of dementia‚ drives a never-ending search for remedies. Early detection appears as a critical technique‚ creating a window of opportunity for therapeutic interventions and lifestyle changes. Researchers at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio‚ in collaboration with UC Davis and Boston University‚ conducted a thorough investigation. They analyzed hundreds of brain MRIs to find a reliable dementia biomarker that could be applied to huge populations‚ providing hope for early detection and focused treatments. The cortex connection The researchers investigated the brain’s complexity‚ namely the thickness of gray matter in the cortex. The outer layer of the brain‚ which is rich in gray matter‚ is a mosaic of functional areas that control memory‚ reasoning‚ senses‚ and language. The findings revealed a consistent pattern: bigger ribbons were associated with a lower incidence of dementia‚ whereas thinner ribbons indicated a higher risk. Consistent findings across demographics: A universal approach to dementia risk Importantly‚ these insights transcended demographic distinctions. Whether in the ethnically varied Californian group or the primarily non-Hispanic white Massachusetts cohort‚ the relationship between cortical thickness and dementia risk was consistent. A potential universal application raises hopes for a uniform method for dementia prediction. Breaking genetic shackles Surprisingly‚ the researchers observed that cortical thickness was not genetically determined. This independence from genetic determinants allows modifiable factors such as nutrition and exercise to have a favorable impact on brain health. It represents a ray of optimism‚ implying that lifestyle changes may play an important role in lowering dementia risk. A non-invasive approach to dementia prediction MRI’s simplicity and non-invasiveness make it a promising tool for predicting dementia. Claudia Satizabal‚ the study’s principal author‚ anticipates that “a person’s gray matter thickness might be analyzed as a percentile of the thickness of healthy people for that age.” This non-invasive metric has the potential to transform routine clinical practice. Future frontiers: exploring modifiable factors and novel therapeutics The future seems promising as the researchers investigate factors impacting cortical thinning‚ which include cardiovascular risk‚ food‚ genetics‚ and environmental contaminants. Modifiable factors may emerge as key contributors‚ changing our understanding of dementia risk and opening up new paths for therapies. Clinical trials: identifying dementia in ‘on track’ participants The newly discovered dementia ‘signature’ not only provides a possibility for early detection‚ but it also changes the landscape of treatment trials. Identifying participants ‘on track’ to develop dementia‚ even before symptoms appear‚ allows researchers to run more targeted and effective trials‚ bringing us closer to finding viable therapies.
