Night two of the Republican National Convention was about "safety," talking about crime and immigration. So at the top of their show on taxpayer-funded PBS, anchor Amna Nawaz announced Republican rhetoric can "veer into outright racism" and echo white supremacy. Our tax dollars are abused. Within minutes of their beginning, co-anchor Amna Nawaz warned: "We have seen though, we should note, Republican rhetoric veer into outright racism, echoing some white supremacist notions as well. Do you think that will be avoided here tonight?” David Brooks mocked his old Weekly Standard colleague Tucker Carlson sitting next to Trump. Nawaz didn't feel the need to offer any specifics on what rhetoric is outright racist, and she apparently doesn't think any Republicans are watching PBS and feeling offended. Apparently, using the term "illegals" is racist.  Our latest studies at NewsBusters underline the dimensions of media bias. Geoffrey Dickens demonstrated how rapes and murders by illegal aliens -- including a 12-year-old girl -- are buried by the networks. Rich Noyes did a deep dive into the numbers and found more than 1,600 minutes of ABC, CBS, and NBC evening news on Trump's "legal woes" since the start of 2023, and yet his poll ratings have actually risen.  Then there was Joe Biden yelling at Lester Holt about how the media never cover Trump's lies. Sen. JD Vance officially accepted the Republican Party's vice presidential nomination on Wednesday.In a rousing keynote address that closed out the third day of the Republican National Convention, Vance recounted the powerful story of his hardscrabble upbringing, connecting it to the "Make America Great Again" agenda and Trump's promise to restore the American dream.'When I walk into that White House to help President Trump, I will be doing it for you, for your family, for your future, and for this great country.'"Tonight is a night of hope — a celebration of what America once was, and with God’s grace, what it will soon be again," Vance said."And it is a reminder of the sacred duty that we have to preserve the American experiment, to choose a new path for our children and grandchildren," he said.Throughout the speech, Vance repeatedly criticized President Joe Biden for being a career politician whose policies have only made America "weaker and poorer." The solution, Vance argued, is Trump's "America First" policies."Joe Biden has been a politician in Washington for longer than I've been alive," Vance said. "For half-a-century, he's been the champion of every major policy initiative to make America weaker and poorer."In four short years, Donald Trump reversed decades of betrayals inflicted by Joe Biden and the rest of the corrupt Washington insiders," he continued. "Just imagine what he's gonna do when we give him four more years!"The promise Vance offered is simple: Trump is going to fight for the working man, and he will put Americans first. With Trump in office, Vance promised there will be an economy that works for all Americans. He promised the border and immigration crises will be solved. He pledged that American manufacturing will be restored. He pledged a solution to the opioid crisis. And he pledged an end to the ruling class cashing checks on the backs of hard-working Americans.Most importantly, Vance promised to serve Americans each and every day he shows up to work."I pledge to every American — no matter your party — I will give everything I have to serve you and to make this country a place where every dream you have for yourself, your family, and your country will be possible once again," Vance promised. "And I promise you one more thing — to the people of Middletown, Ohio, and all the forgotten communities in Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and every corner of our nation — I promise you this: I will be a vice president who never forgets where he came from.""And every single day for the next four years, when I walk into that White House to help President Trump, I will be doing it for you, for your family, for your future, and for this great country," he pledged. Republicans believe that Vance's story in particular resonates with blue-collar and rural Americans, those forgotten by the coastal elites and ruling class."People feel like Washington’s forgotten about them. That’s JD Vance, his family. Those are people across this country, who, like his family, suffered from drug addiction, suffered poverty," former Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) told NBC News. "And I think that’s going to be compelling — to say that this is someone who can relate to the kind of people that Donald Trump is standing up for."If Vance's story connects with voters who feel forgotten, Republicans believe Vance will help them secure victories in the Rust Belt, states critical to winning the White House."He's going to connect so well with these states that are so important in this upcoming election — Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Michigan," said Republican congressional candidate Riley Moore (W-Va.). "He represents those kinds of values and a lot of those struggles that he went through."If elected, Vance will become the third-youngest vice president in U.S. history. He will also become the first millennial to hold the office.The theme of the third night of the convention was "Make America Strong Again," promoting the Republican Party's vision for national security and foreign policy while slamming President Joe Biden’s handling of these important issues.In addition to Vance, speakers included Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, Donald Trump Jr., Rep. Brian Mast (Fla.), Rep. Nancy Mace (S.C.), Rep. Ronny Jackson (Texas), North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, Kellyanne Conway, and the family members of the American soldiers who died during Biden's disastrous Afghanistan withdrawal. March for kids, march for unity

Our Declaration of Independence reads, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.”Any student of history knows that our great country has not always lived up to these ideals. But my uncle, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., saw them for what they were.Despite real progress, woke ideologues are hard at work seeking to restore the resentments of yesteryear, and they have infiltrated our school systems.In his famous “I Have a Dream” speech, he correctly identified those words as “a promissory note to which every American was to fall heir” and knew that one day, all people, regardless of color, would enjoy their guaranteed unalienable rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. As a Christian, my uncle also acknowledged the biblical truth that we are of one blood and that we are all made in the image and likeness of God. He knew, too, that our country is not irredeemably stained by racism and that it is redeemed when we unite around our shared values and seek to lift up each other.I have spent my life as an activist, an elected official, a mother, and a grandmother fighting for the realization of that vision, united in love and fellowship with Americans from all backgrounds. I have also led efforts to serve the marginalized and the most vulnerable among us. I am proud to say that so many times and in so many ways, we have succeeded.Despite that real progress, some sadly want to take us backward. Woke ideologues are hard at work seeking to restore the resentments of yesteryear, and they have infiltrated our school systems. What we are now witnessing is a top-down effort to divide parents from children and children from their innocence.Instead of educating our children, America’s schools have become factories for indoctrination. Today, left-wing activists in our institutions are working hard to erase all the progress we’ve made in unifying our country and transcending our differences.In place of my uncle’s dream — in which we are judged not by the color of our skin but by the content of our character — they would erect a system of racial hierarchies, grounded in resentment, in which innocent black children will be taught that they are defined at birth by their skin color and it will be explained to them that the color of their skin will dictate the breadth of their ambitions. They will be taught that Caucasian children in their classrooms are to blame for all of it simply because they were born white. Many parents are shocked to learn that school systems are spending tens of millions of dollars a year to have teachers tell their students the American dream is a lie.While our students’ minds are being poisoned by anti-American ideology, they are also being deprived of quality education, which is the foundation of success. Implementing Marxist and radical gender curricula has coincided with a rapid decline in U.S. academic achievement. Minority students suffer the most. In Virginia, just outside our nation’s capital, 84% of black students lack proficiency in mathematics, and 85% lack proficiency in reading skills. In the name of “equity,” we are setting these children up for failure. It is difficult to imagine this system producing another Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Secretary Condoleezza Rice, or Justice Clarence Thomas. Where hope no longer exists, it is impossible to dream.It’s time for all Americans to come together, united around our love and our desire to protect our children, to push back this rising tide. We have no illusions about our country. It’s not perfect. But it is at its best when parents are free to raise their children to love God and to love one another.Our children deserve a fair chance to obtain the skills to understand our complex history, to understand the heroic figures who have helped move our country forward, and to dream of a future where they can succeed, regardless of the color of their skin.That’s why I’m calling on everyone who cares about our children to join me on August 31, 2024, on the National Mall for the March for Kids. Setting aside our political or cultural differences, we can unite instead in love for our children and a commitment to nurturing their dreams.It’s time we remind those who would divide us, once again, that we are one nation, under God.
