'Scary experience': Woman finds horrifying cellar room not advertised in Airbnb rental

In one of the more strange travel experiences‚ a family from Kansas City discovered a dark cellar room during their stay at someone's Chicago-based Airbnb. A short clip of the room has gone viral on TikTok. Xena Habashi decided to rent the basement apartment in Chicago in December‚ but she quickly found that there was something sketchy about the room. She told Newsweek that several doors in the apartment were never advertised when she initially reserved the space.“While getting ready to go to sleep me and my cousin noticed a light on in one of the rooms that was locked‚” Habashi said. “We decided to try and open it. … I got a fork and was able to open the door. That’s when I saw it.”The guest posted an 18-second video clip of the freaky dungeon‚ which appeared to have half-full garbage bags and cardboard boxes in it. @notxh2 Left the next morning because we kept hearing noises 😣 there was more to it‚ pt 2?? #scary #haunted #airbnb The New York Post reported that Habashi spotted "wooden doors with locks on" and "chains" lying "on the ground." There was also a wooden door that went deeper into the building‚ but she decided not to investigate further. The TikTok post included a caption that read "Barbarian??" — appearing to reference a 2022 horror movie about a woman who discovers that a rental home she reserved was already inhabited by an unknown person.“I had watched Barbarian a month before and we had been joking before we got there saying ‘imagine something like Barbarian happens!’ Then the room was just like the movie!” Habashi said. Habashi posted two clips of the footage on the social media platform‚ which has garnered more than 10 million views. One user said "this is literally the Barbarian movie‚" and another said‚ "I watched Barbarian I know how this ends."Another user commended Habashi for deciding to stay the night despite the creepy passageway‚ adding‚ "I would have been out of that place immediately. Imagine someone or something coming into your room from there."The family heard "tapping noises‚" so they decided to contact the owner and Airbnb. “We had that door blocked by a table and a rolled up towel under the handle to where you can’t move the handle‚” Habashi told Newsweek. “We weren’t able to sleep. We stayed up till the morning‚ kept hearing noises‚ and before we left I decided to take that video and it went viral unexpectedly!”Airbnb offered the family a refund for what the family described as a "scary experience."However‚ Airbnb had not received any previous complaints about the apartment. It had a 4.84 rating and good reviews‚ according to the report.“The listing is advertised as a basement apartment‚ and the separate space that was accessed is part of the basement‚” an Airbnb representative told Newsweek.“Our customer service team supported our guest with their concerns at the time‚ and assisted with a refund and another place to stay."It is unknown who owns the apartment or what the cellar area is used for.Like Blaze News? SCOTUS to determine whether local laws designed to deter homeless camps constitute 'cruel and unusual punishment'

The Supreme Court of the United States has agreed to hear arguments about whether local laws meant to deter homeless camps amount to "cruel and unusual punishment" of homeless people.Last Friday‚ SCOTUS announced that it would consider the issue after a series of rulings from the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals — the federal appellate court that covers all Western states‚ including Alaska‚ Arizona‚ California‚ Oregon‚ and Washington. In general‚ those rulings have determined that denying homeless people a place to sleep on the streets constitutes "cruel and unusual punishment‚" prohibited by the Eighth Amendment. In one case‚ a Ninth Circuit panel ruled 2-1 that San Francisco could not enforce ordinances barring "sleeping‚ lodging‚ or camping on public property‚" including parks. The justices voting in the majority were both Biden appointees. The lone dissenter was appointed by former President Donald Trump. In another instance‚ a Ninth Circuit panel ruled 2-1 that Grants Pass‚ Oregon‚ a city of about 38‚000 residents‚ could not outlaw the use of "a blanket‚ pillow‚ or cardboard box for protection from the elements" since the city did not offer "adequate shelter" for the 50 to 600 homeless people living in the area. When the case was presented to the whole court‚ the panel's ruling was upheld 14-13.Grants Pass immediately appealed the decision to the Supreme Court. Theane Evangelis‚ the attorney representing Grants Pass‚ argued that those Ninth Circuit rulings are not only "legally wrong" but they have "tied the hands of local governments as they work to address the urgent homelessness crisis."The rulings "are actually harming the very people they purport to protect‚" she added. Many leaders across Western states‚ including California Gov. Gavin Newsom‚ have joined the appeal from Grants Pass so they can better understand how to tackle the homeless crisis within their purview. "California has invested billions to address homelessness‚ but rulings from the bench have tied the hands of state and local governments to address this issue‚" said Newsom‚ whose state reportedly has nearly 600‚000 homeless residents. "The Supreme Court can now correct course and end the costly delays from lawsuits that have plagued our efforts to clear encampments and deliver services to those in need."Ed Johnson‚ the attorney who brought the suit against Grants Pass on behalf of multiple homeless people‚ claimed that local ordinances such as those in Grants Pass threaten homeless people‚ many of whom simply do not have other options besides the streets. "The issue before the Court is whether cities can punish homeless residents simply for existing without access to shelter‚" he said. "Nevertheless‚ some politicians and others are cynically and falsely blaming the judiciary for the homelessness crisis to distract the public and deflect blame for years of failed policies."Court documents indicate that‚ in at least some cases‚ city officials attempted to offer homeless people temporary shelter at local facilities‚ but those offers were refused. They also mention the concerns of other residents who worry about the crime‚ disease‚ and blight that homeless camps so often bring. The high court said it would hear arguments in April and issue a decision sometime in June.Like Blaze News? VIDEO PROOF: Nancy Pelosi's head of security LIED about January 6

David Lazarus was Nancy Pelosi’s head of security on January 6‚ 2021‚ and his testimony was key in the prosecution of several defendants. However‚ Capitol CCTV footage can now be released to the public that appears to prove Lazarus lied in court about where he was on that fateful day. Lazarus was initially brought in to corroborate the account of another Capitol police officer‚ Harry Dunn.“So‚ Lazarus was brought in to corroborate Harry Dunn’s perjury‚” Sara Gonzales says‚ noting that his lies “were used to put innocent people in prison‚ ruin their lives‚ ruin their family’s lives.” Investigative journalist Steve Baker has been leading the charge in exposing what really happened on January 6‚ and at this point‚ he believes that this was all “allowed to happen.” “I’ve harvested a day in the life of Harry Dunn from the Capitol CCTV video‚ and I can’t corroborate anything that he has said that he did that day that made him the hero of the day‚ that gave him the privilege of earning a Congressional Medal‚” Baker explains. “And now he’s running for Congress‚” he adds. As for whether or not Baker believes the “insurrection” was orchestrated‚ he definitely doesn’t believe it was all spontaneous. “There were absolutely‚ irrefutably‚ agents provocateur in the crowd. They were there. Who were they working for? I don’t know‚” Baker explains. While the Capitol Police didn’t “draw first blood‚” the provocateurs did. Then‚ the police allowed them in the building.“There’s the video of the cop squirting a little tear gas canister at the first two guys coming through the window instead of drawing her weapon. I have never quite reconciled myself with that‚” Baker says.“It was allowed to go too far.”Want more from "The News &; Why It Matters?"To enjoy more rundowns of the top stories of the day‚ subscribe to BlazeTV — the largest multi-platform network of voices who love America‚ defend the Constitution‚ and live the American dream.

'No one knew what to do': Teslas  abandoned and towed after heading to frozen charging station

Tesla drivers around Chicago waited hours to charge their cars in frigid temperatures‚ with some needing their vehicles towed due to a dead battery. Other drivers were led by their vehicles to a charging station that was completely inoperable.Electric vehicles were lined up at a charging station in Evergreen Park‚ Illinois‚ where some of the charging stations weren't working‚ while others reportedly took more than double the typical time for a charge."I've been here for over five hours at this point‚ and I still have not gotten to charge my car‚" a Tesla driver told CBS News. "A charge that should take 45 minutes is taking two hours."The same driver said he saw at least 10 cars get towed from the parking lot.ABC 7 Chicago's Diane Pathieu reported from another Chicago-area Tesla charging station in Oak Brook‚ Illinois. Approximately 20 Teslas were dead and stranded at the station due to the chargers simply not working."We talked to a driver here in Oak Brook where we are‚ who tried to call Tesla for help‚ and nothing‚" Pathieu stated‚ from the inside of a likely gas-powered vehicle."Yesterday I was here and there was just lines of cars‚ but there was only a couple charging‚ working‚ but they seemed very disorganized‚ like no one knew what to do‚" explained Tesla owner John Baldys.Baldys also explained that the Teslas themselves directed drivers to the inoperable charging station. "A lot of people were just led here by their cars. So they were abandoned‚ basically."Tesla has advised owners to maintain their battery charge levels above 20% during extreme cold weather. Chicago has hovered around 0 degrees Fahrenheit during a bitter storm‚ with wind chills making it feel as low as -18. A Tesla support article also advised drivers to "precondition" their batteries before charging when the weather is around freezing temperatures."The intention of preconditioning is to raise the temperature of your Tesla’s battery to an appropriate temperature prior to charging‚" the website noted. The process can take up to 30 minutes before charging and will also "consume electricity to warm the battery while not drawing current to charge the battery."Tesla also encouraged the use of "Chill Mode‚" which "moderately limits" the vehicle's acceleration to preserve energy. As well‚ according to the Tesla Model 3 owner's manual online‚ the "charge port latch may freeze in place" in lower temperatures.Like Blaze News? Federal Aviation Administration is now hiring people with 'severe intellectual disabilities' as part of DEI program

Federal Aviation Administration is now hiring people with 'severe intellectual disabilities' as part of DEI program

Given the growing list of aviation issues we’ve seen in recent years‚ you’d think that the FAA‚ a federal agency under the U.S. Department of Transportation‚ would put more emphasis on improving the safety of aircraft. Unfortunately‚ however‚ the agency is more focused on its DEI program. “A Japanese domestic flight was forced to turn back after a crack was found in the cockpit window‚ but‚ you know‚ why worry about that?” asks Glenn Beck sarcastically. “The Federal Aviation Administration is now putting a priority on hiring people with severe intellectual disabilities as part of its diversity and inclusion initiative‚” he explains. According to faa.gov‚ “Individuals with targeted or 'severe' disabilities are the most under-represented segment of the Federal workforce. The People with Disabilities Program (PWD) ensures that people with disabilities have equal Federal employment opportunities. The FAA actively recruits‚ hires‚ promotes‚ retains‚ develops and advances people with disabilities.” The website also explains what “targeted disabilities” entail: “Targeted disabilities are those disabilities that the Federal government‚ as a matter of policy‚ has identified for special emphasis in recruitment and hiring. They include hearing‚ vision‚ missing extremities‚ partial paralysis‚ complete paralysis‚ epilepsy‚ severe intellectual disability‚ psychiatric disability and dwarfism.” “Do you want somebody who's up in the tower or making any decisions on planes … with a severe psychiatric disability or a severe intellectual disability?” asks Glenn in disbelief. “I'm going to go with no‚” answers Stu Burgiuere. “I want the person who's most qualified for the job regardless of their skin color or really any immutable characteristic.” Of course‚ this is not to say that people with disabilities aren’t deserving of respect or shouldn’t be able to work‚ but rather that meritocracy is what’s best for all. “Certain jobs have certain characteristics‚” says Stu. “You‚ Glenn‚ aren't the best point guard for the Dallas Mavericks‚ right? It’s not because they hate you‚ it’s not because you’re being discriminated against; you just might not have the aerobic capacity for the gig.” Laughing‚ Glenn agrees‚ adding that he “wouldn’t make a good pilot” either‚ as he’s “riddled with ADD.” Want more from Glenn Beck?To enjoy more of Glenn’s masterful storytelling‚ thought-provoking analysis‚ and uncanny ability to make sense of the chaos‚ subscribe to BlazeTV — the largest multi-platform network of voices who love America‚ defend the Constitution‚ and live the American dream.

Trans physicians admit puberty blockers are not as 'reversible' and 'noninvasive' as 'the media makes it out to be': Report

Top pediatric physicians admit that puberty blockers are not as "reversible" and "noninvasive" as "the media makes it out to be‚" according to a video obtained by the Daily Caller News Foundation.During an educational session conducted by the World Professional Association for Transgender Health‚ a medical organization‚ prominent physicians acknowledged that puberty blockers can have adverse side effects for minors‚ including infertility‚ bone loss‚ and brain development disruptions‚ the DCNF reported. The organization supports so-called "gender-affirming care" for children‚ including prescribing puberty suppression drugs‚ cross-sex hormones‚ and gender-mutilating surgeries‚ according to its Standards of Care. However‚ a September 2022 educational session obtained by the news outlet revealed that physicians with the organization admit that these interventions are not entirely harmless for minors.During a session titled "Foundations in Gender Affirming Hormone Therapy: Adults and Adolescents‚" Dr. Daniel Metzger‚ a WPATH-certified pediatric endocrinologist‚ expressed concerns about puberty blockers disrupting a child's calcium stores‚ the DCNF reported."Normally puberty is the time of putting the calcium into your piggy bank. This is how I explain it to families. You've got a piggy bank for your calcium and you better get it all in by 25 because at 25 you're going to live off that piggy bank‚" Metzger stated."The puberty blockers slow that calcium accrual back into the bones quite a bit‚ back to the prepubertal level. We do know that even if you look at people now age 22‚ if you've done all of this and you've gone off and then you go back on the hormones that you want to have‚ you have not caught up by age 22. Which is about the time you need to fill up your piggy bank. This is a concern that not everybody is getting their piggy bank completely filled up with calcium‚" he continued. Metzger also acknowledged that not much is known about how puberty blockers impact minors' brain development. "Obviously teenagers‚ their brains are changing. They're unwiring‚ they're rewiring. And if we've started one kid unwiring and half rewiring‚ and then we changed their puberty the other way and we're unwiring‚ people have been trying to figure out what this does for kids' brains‚" he added. "They seem to do reasonably the same as their friends‚ but we're not looking at their IQ and their learning ability and lots of other things."The doctor noted that in order for a male to undergo a sex change operation‚ he must develop enough genital tissue to surgically create female genitals."When you think about vaginoplasty‚ the creation of a vagina in an assigned male‚ you need tissue‚ genital tissue‚ to create that vagina. And if we are taking an 11-year-old boy‚ who does not have a lot of genital tissue and blocking puberty right there‚ we're preventing the growth of the vagina for down the road‚" Metzger explained. In another education session‚ "Foundations in Clinical Care for Transgender and Gender Diverse Adolescents‚" Dr. Scott Leibowitz‚ a member of the WPATH Board of Directors‚ claimed that puberty blockers are not as reversible as advertised‚ according to the DCNF."I think when we just say‚ 'Oh puberty blockers are just reversible and it's a very noninvasive treatment‚' I would say it's more invasive than often times the media makes it out to be or other people‚" Leibowitz said."There's challenges with puberty suppression that we have to acknowledge and that's why it's 'reversible asterisks‚'" he continued. "One cannot be on puberty suppression endlessly. You get to a place where physiologically we need hormones."According to Leibowitz‚ medical treatments should not be made based on evidence alone; instead physicians should also consider "ethics‚ human rights‚ [and] justice for trans people.""Regardless of the evidence base‚ as I said evidence is one part of this‚ there is an ethical human rights component to treating people. We don't rely on evidence for every single treatment we do in medicine‚" he stated. "We have to look at the whole thing."Dr. Metzger‚ Dr. Scott Leibowitz‚ and WPATH did not respond to the DCNF's requests for comment.Like Blaze News? Virginia county revises 2020 election vote totals after discovering 'reporting errors' that miscalculated thousands of votes

A northern Virginia county acknowledged last week that roughly 4‚000 votes in the 2020 presidential contest were misallocated. The Prince William County Office of Elections announced last week that President Joe Biden was shorted 1‚648 votes in the 2020 presidential contest‚ while former President Donald Trump's "incorrectly received an extra 2‚327 votes."The initial vote total said Biden received 142‚863 votes while Trump received 81‚222. But a new revision found that Biden actually received 144‚511 votes while Trump received only 78‚895.In a statement‚ the county's director of elections‚ Eric Olsen‚ spoke about the "errors" using passive language."The reporting errors were presumably a consequence of the results tapes not being programmed to a format that was compatible with state reporting requirements. Attempts to correct this issue appear to have created errors‚" he said.Olsen emphasized‚ however‚ that the errors "did not consistently favor one party or candidate but were likely due to a lack of proper planning‚ a difficult election environment‚ and human error." Indeed‚ Biden won Virginia by more than 450‚000 votes in 2020‚ meaning the revision makes no difference in the outcome of the contest.Still‚ Olsen did not explain what "human error" helped contribute to the incorrect vote tabulations.Unfortunately‚ the presidential contest was not the only impacted race. Both U.S. Senate candidates received too few votes‚ while Rep. Rob Wittman (R-Va.) was shorted 293 votes. None of the errors made a difference in the outcome of the elections."Mistakes are unfortunate but require diligence and innovation to correct‚" Olsen said. "They do not reflect a purposeful attempt to undermine the integrity of the electoral process and the investigation into this matter ended with that conclusion. We have worked to bring transparency to the reporting of an election that happened three years ago. This dedication remains and applies to all current and future elections."The miscalculations were discovered as part of the investigation into former Prince William County Registrar Michele White‚ who in 2022 was charged with corrupt conduct‚ making a false statement — both of which are felonies — and neglect of duty. Investigators released few details about the case but alleged that White altered the election results. Last month‚ prosecutors dropped the felony charges against White. The third misdemeanor charge was dropped this month. The case fell apart‚ prosecutors said‚ after "several of the witnesses interviewed unexpectedly changed their statements." Like Blaze News?
