Colby Acuff Teams Up With The Brothers Comatose For Bluegrass Version Of “If I Were The Devil”

It really is a small world out there. The Brother Comatose is a five-piece bluegrass band formed by two brothers, Ben and Alex Morrison, in the San Francisco area back in 2009. Over 15 years later, the band is still going strong as ever, having amassed a steady following through years of touring and on the strength of their spectacular catalog that now features six albums, a live album, and several cover EPs. Colby Acuff, on the other hand, is a country singer-songwriter from Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, who has gained some serious traction in his own right, especially in the past few years. A lifelong musician, Acuff has been performing in some capacity since an early age, and quickly became a local favorite during his tenure as a college student at the University of Idaho. Shortly after graduating in 2019, Acuff, who was working as a fly fishing guide in his hometown at the time, released his debut record Life of a Rolling Stone in January 2020. Well, his plans to hit the road for his first tour to promote the album quickly come to a halt when the world shut down just over a month later, and it was back to being a fly fishing guide for Acuff. Though it sounds like it was probably sometime before that debut album came out, Acuff happened to guide some members of The Brothers Comatose on a fly fishing trip in Couer d’Alene back when the music career he has now was just a dream. Several years later, that chance encounter has come full circle, as Acuff and The Brothers Comatose have teamed up for a bluegrass version of his hit “If I Were the Devil.” The Brothers Comatose posted a clip of the video to Instagram yesterday, and provided some additional context as to how the collaboration came to be. “We met Colby Acuff about 6 years back while we were fly fishing in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. He was one of our fishing guides and mentioned he was a singer/songwriter. All these years later, he’s kicking a** out there on the road and we were stoked to meet up and collaborate on his tune “If I Were the Devil.” Here’s a lil’ clip. Full vid out this Friday!” View this post on Instagram A post shared by The Brothers Comatose (@broscomatose) That’s a pretty awesome story, if you ask me. And a killer version of the song, too. The Instagram caption mentions that the full video isn’t out until Friday, but it appears the whole thing has already been posted to YouTube for your viewing pleasure. Check it out below. By far Acuff’s biggest song to date, “If I Were the Devil,” has amassed well over 90 million streams on Spotify alone since it was released in 2021 as the title track for his sophomore record of the same name. But it should come as no surprise that this song has been so successful. Almost Orwellian in nature, the song is dark and dystopian, yet unfortunately realistic and relatable, as Acuff delves into the ways in which the devil deceitfully infiltrates society and desensitizes the masses to his evil ways. Dealing in temptation, inciting division, fostering addictions, and more, Acuff doesn’t hold back in this one, and the worst part is that it is all so true. If you’ve made it this far without checking out Acuff’s original version, you need to give ‘er a listen now. An incredibly talented songwriter and vocalist, Colby Acuff has a deep catalog of amazing music beyond “If I Were the Devil,” so here are a couple more of my favorites. “Dying Breed” “Scared of the Dark” If you’ve never listened to The Brothers Comatose, I highly recommend digging into their impressive catalog as well. They’ve already released a few singles this year and have a new album on the way, so make sure to give their latest singles a listen, too. “Golden Grass” “Home Again” ft. Parker McCollum Says Randy Rogers Managing Him Was “Instrumental” For His Career

Thanking one of his country music colleagues and mentors. As Parker McCollum is gearing up to release his fifth studio album, PARKER MCCOLLUM, later this month, it’s always fun to go back and see how far they have come as an artist. And with Parker noting that this album is taking him back to the raw and uncut sound of the beginning of his career, that’s even more of a reason to take a walk down memory lane, reflecting on The Limestone Kid’s career so far. From being a young college kid running around Austin, trying to chase a dream, to having four number-one radio hits, selling out big venues, getting married, welcoming a child, Parker McCollum has grown up quite a bit before our eyes. And any musician knows that to make it in the music industry, having a mentor to guide you through the ropes is beyond important. As a Texas native, many artists on that scene have championed McCollum from day one, but McCollum has an especially close relationship with one artist in particular. Randy Rogers. Randy Rogers was more than a mentor to McCollum; he managed him in the early years of his career. After McCollum released his debut album, The Limestone Kid, Rogers took him under his wing and guided him through his breakout album, Probably Wrong. McCollum never hid the fact that Rogers managed him at one point, even posting on Facebook in 2018 how thankful he was to have a mentor like him. “2 years ago Randy Rogers started managing me. Never would have made it this far without him and everyone at Big Blind Management. Tonight we got to open for him at a SOLD OUT John T. Floore Country Store show. 4500 people strong. Thank you RRB. Never will be able to repay you.” Years after the fact, McCollum was still showing thanks to Randy Rogers and all he did for him. On a 2024 appearance on the Jarrod Morris Vibe Podcast, McCollum shared how Rogers was “instrumental” in him reaching his goals. “My goals, I still have the emails. Randy will send them to me. Every now and then, he would make me email him, or he would make me write down or type out my goals. You know, one was like, I think I put a tour bus on my ten-year goal. And I had a tour bus eighteen months later. No record deal, no nothing. He was really, really instrumental in me kind of looking at that and thinking about the long game.” @thejarrodmorrisvibe Parker Mccollum speaks on how Randy Rogers helped shape his music career and helped him learn the business #jarrodmorris #parkermccollum #randyrogersband #thejarrodmorrisvibe #texasmusic #texascountry #countrymusic #texascheck ♬ original sound – Jarrod Morris Vibe Podcast I am sure many more goals on that list were checked off as McCollum grew in his career and into his own skin as an artist. It’s also cool to hear that Randy Rogers kept those goals and would send them to Parker even after he was no longer managing him. That’s a lifelong mentor and friend right there. I’m interested to hear what Randy Rogers thinks about PARKER MCCOLLUM once it’s released, given that he’s moving the needle back toward the sound during the period Rogers worked with him. Fire up McCollum’s latest single, “Big Sky,” before you go. If you want to listen to the Jarrod Morris Vibe episode where Parker McCollum appeared, you can also check that out while you’re here. Trump orders inquiry into Biden's actions, alleging 'cognitive decline'

Donald Trump has ordered an investigation into Joe Biden's actions during his presidency, accusing aides of a "conspiracy" to "deceive the public about Biden's mental state". In this latest move to discredit his predecessor, Trump took aim at the aides' use of an autopen - a device that replicates signatures which presidents, including Trump, have used for decades - to sign executive actions.
