Harvey Weinstein’s lawyer argued during closing statements at his retrial that his client was actually the victim. The disgraced Hollywood executive, now a convicted sex predator, has been undergoing a new trial in Manhattan since late April. His attorney’s closing statements have been making headlines as he attempts to flip the script. “They’re using their youth, their beauty, their charm, their charisma to get stuff from him,” defense attorney Arthur Aidala said of the three women who testified against him, per the New York Post. “I know it’s going to sound crazy, but he’s the one who’s being abused. He’s the one who’s getting used,” he added. Aidala went into detail about the Miramax co-founder’s romantic relationships with his accusers, saying the sex was both consensual and “transactional” because they all “wanted to cut the line” to getting famous. He said the women were upset that their method didn’t work and they never achieved notability. “They’re mad. They’re mad to this day,” Aidala said. The attorney next referenced the prosecutor deciding on a retrial. “They needed to get the poster boy, the original sinner for the MeToo movement,” Aidala said. “They tried to do it five years ago, and there was a redo, and they’re trying to do it again.” The defense attorney said the women’s claims were not proven beyond a reasonable doubt. He described his client as a “fat dude” incapable of participating in some of the sexual acts described by their testimonies. “Some of these descriptions from these women sound like ‘Cirque du Soleil’!” Aidala said. Manhattan Assistant District Attorney Nicole Blumberg denied these assertions, saying “it wasn’t about fooling around — it was rape.” Weinstein is charged with two counts of committing a “criminal sexual act” and one count of third-degree rape by former production assistant Miriam Haley, former model Kaja Sokola, and former aspiring actor Jessica Mann. Weinstein pleaded “not guilty” to all charges. Once a powerful figure in Hollywood, Weinstein was sentenced to 23 years in prison in New York following his 2020 conviction on charges of rape and sexual assault. But in April 2024, the New York Court of Appeals overturned that conviction. The court ruled that testimony from three women should not have been included as their accounts were deemed unfairly prejudicial and most likely helped sway the jury. Weinstein was also found guilty of rape in a Los Angeles court and sentenced to 16 years in prison for the crime.

President Donald Trump said on Thursday that he is “very disappointed” with Elon Musk after the former senior adviser to the president ratcheted up criticism of Trump’s “Big, Beautiful Bill.” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office that Musk “only developed the problem [with the bill] when he found out we’re going to have to cut the EV [electric vehicle] mandate.” “I’m very disappointed because Elon knew the inner workings of this bill better than almost anybody sitting here,” Trump added. “Better than you people. He knew everything about it. He had no problem with it. Trump was “caught off guard” but “not entirely surprised” by Musk’s fierce opposition to the president’s bill that was passed by the House and is now before the Senate, according to NBC News. A “senior White House official” told NBC News that Trump “wanted to be a nice guy,” sending Musk off on a positive note last week as he takes a step back from advising Trump to focus more on his companies. The Wall Street Journal also cited a “senior White House official” who reportedly said that Trump was upset and confused by Musk’s increased opposition to the bill. “The official said that Trump could be forgiving, but that he doesn’t forget slights like this,” the WSJ reported. The White House did not respond to a Daily Wire request to comment. In recent days, Musk has ramped up his attacks on the “Big, Beautiful Bill,” saying it would likely add to the federal deficit and arguing that it doesn’t go far enough in implementing some of the cuts recommended by his Department of Government Efficiency project, a pivitol part of Musk’s role within the Trump administration. “I’m sorry, but I just can’t stand it anymore,” Musk said in a post on X on Tuesday. “This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination. The Tesla and SpaceX CEO continued his criticism of the legislation on Wednesday, writing, “It more than defeats all the cost savings achieved by the @DOGE team at great personal cost and risk.” He then coined a new name for the legislation: “It is the Debt Slavery Bill,” he said. Musk also suggested that he would oppose lawmakers who voted in favor of the legislation. “In November next year, we fire all politicians who betrayed the American people,” Musk wrote. Rand Paul, for opposing the “Big, Beautiful Bill.” A White House official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, told NBC News on Wednesday that the administration knows Musk’s criticism “comes from a place of business and is not personal.” “Everyone here in a senior role understands who Elon Musk is, understands how he acts, understands how he plays,” the official said. “There’s been no surprise when it comes to Elon Musk, because he’s been such a friend to the administration.” During a press conference in the Oval Office announcing Musk’s departure from the White House last Friday, Trump said he remained “totally committed to making the DOGE cuts permanent,” but added that the “Big, Beautiful Bill” needed to pass Congress first. “After that, we’re going to be — we put some of this into the bill, but most of it is going to come later. We’re going to have it [codified] by Congress,” Trump said. Musk told reporters that the “DOGE influence will only grow stronger,” adding, “It is permeating throughout the government, and I am confident that, over time, we will see … a trillion dollars of waste and fraud reduction.”

A Texas program offering in-state tuition to illegal immigrants ended Wednesday after the Trump administration sued the state saying that the initiative violated federal law.  The suit from the Justice Department challenged Texas law that allowed illegal immigrants to be eligible for in-state tuition while denying the same opportunities for American citizens. The challenge was resolved the same day after a federal judge approved a joint motion from Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and the Justice Department to rule the law unconstitutional. “Today, I entered a joint motion along with the Trump Administration opposing a law that unconstitutionally and unlawfully gave benefits to illegal aliens that were not available to American citizens,” said Attorney General Paxton. “Ending this discriminatory and un-American provision is a major victory for Texas.” The joint motion asked the judge to rule that the tuition provision of Texas law applying to illegal immigrants violated the Constitution’s Supremacy Clause and issue a permanent injunction blocking application of the law. “In direct and express conflict with federal law, Texas education law specifically allows an alien who is not lawfully present in the United States to qualify for in-state tuition based on residence within the state, while explicitly denying resident-based tuition rates to U.S. citizens that do not qualify as Texas residents,” Paxton and the DOJ wrote in their motion. Judge Reed O’Connor of the Northern District of Texas signed off on the motion just hours after it was filed, granting a permanent injunction against the provision. “In-state tuition for illegal immigrants in Texas has ended,” Governor Greg Abbott said. “Texas is permanently enjoined from providing in-state tuition for illegal immigrants.” The provision giving illegal immigrants access to in-state tuition was first passed back in 2001 and signed by then-Governor Rick Perry. In an executive order signed in March, President Donald Trump instructed Attorney General Pam Bondi to “identify and take appropriate action to stop the enforcement of State and local laws, regulations, policies, and practices favoring aliens over any groups of American citizens that are unlawful, preempted by Federal law, or otherwise unenforceable, including State laws that provide in-State higher education tuition to aliens but not to out-of-State American citizens.”

President Donald Trump’s tariffs have driven a massive drop in the trade deficit — going from nearly $140 billion in March to $61.6 billion in April. According to the latest numbers, which were detailed during a Thursday morning broadcast on CNBC, the sharp drop in the trade deficit also fueled a significant bump in the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) — the Atlanta Fed GDP now was at 4.64%. “The big news is there is how much it bolsters GDP — just look at Atlanta Fed GDP now, which is at 4.64%,” the anchor noted. In addition, the NYT also noted the fact that the drop in the trade deficit almost exclusively reflected a decrease in imports — meaning that as production picked up domestically, that could also drive the deficit even lower. President Trump celebrated the drop in the trade deficit one week earlier, playing video from another CNBC broadcast in the Oval Office. “Personal income is up 0.8%. That is almost triple the expectation. The income numbers, really for the first four months of the year, they’re stellar. They’re really stellar. I mean, I could go back and look at the first four months of many different years, really very strong numbers,” anchor Rick Santelli said at the time. “How the hell did they already fix the trade deficit? Or not fix it, but to cut it in half? That’s crazy,” Joe Kernen added. “Yeah, I’ll tell you what, it really does call into question some of the conventional wisdoms. And you know it’s going to be interesting to see what happens next month, when we get this number, or we see some of the other numbers—like current accounts—see how they fared. A pro-Israel conference hosted by Christians was forced to cancel at the last minute after credible terror threats were directed towards the venue in Texas. The Israel Summit, organized by the pro-Israel nonprofit HaYovel and The Israel Guys podcast, was expected to draw more than 1,000 attendees from June 9 to 11. The event was originally scheduled to take place in Dallas, but organizers switched venues due to “heightened threat levels and an overwhelming security burden estimated in the hundreds of thousands of dollars.” The new venue outside Dallas initially agreed to host the event and implement necessary security protocols, but backed out after facing direct and indirect threats from American pro-Hamas and jihadist groups that called for targeting the private conference, according to organizers, who were reportedly working with the sheriff’s department, Texas state Rangers, and the FBI. Now, the summit’s organizers are questioning whether it’s even possible to safely host pro-Israel events in the United States. “This isn’t just about our event being shut down — it’s part of an alarming trend that’s escalating,” Israel Guys host Joshua Waller told The Daily Wire. “The threats against our Summit were direct, coordinated, and credible. When over 1,000 people can’t safely gather in Texas to stand with Israel, something is deeply wrong.” Waller cited the recent murder of two Israeli embassy staffers, Sarah Milgrim and Yaron Lischinsky, who were attacked while leaving a pro-Israel event in Washington, D.C., as well as a firebomb attack in Boulder, Colorado, where a man threw Molotov cocktails at participants in a walk raising awareness for the 56 hostages still held in Gaza, injuring 15 people.
