Netherlands Pledges Over $100M to Provide Ukraine With Artillery Shells

Western countries‚ including member states of the European Union‚ have been providing military and financial aid to Kiev since the start of Russia's special military operation in Ukraine in February 2022. The Netherlands will allocate more than 100 million euros ($108.5 million) to the Czech initiative to purchase artillery shells for Ukraine‚ Prime Minister Mark Rutte said on Tuesday. “It is essential‚ first and foremost‚ that we deliver what we’ve promised. And look at what else we can do. That is why the Netherlands is contributing more than 100 million euros to the Czech initiative to quickly deliver hundreds of thousands of artillery shells to Ukraine‚” Rutte said on X. He also recalled that the Netherlands is negotiating with Ukraine a security agreement “to continue to support the country for at least the next 10 years.” Earlier in the month‚ Czech President Petr Pavel told the Munich Security Conference that Prague had identified an unnamed country outside the bloc with 500‚000 155mm rounds and another 300‚000 122mm rounds that could be delivered to Ukraine within weeks if quick funding was provided. In December‚ Rutte said that he had informed Volodymyr Zelensky about the government’s decision to prepare the first 18 F-16 fighters for delivery to Ukraine. The delivery of the first fighters was expected in 2024‚ The Hague said. In February‚ Dutch Defense Minister Kajsa Ollongren said that the Netherlands was preparing to send six more F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine. Our fan-favorite Turbo Force Plus is now 40% off! Lesser-Known Inventors Who Changed the World: Unsung Heroes

In a world where innovation drives progress‚ the spotlight often shines on a handful of famous inventors whose names are synonymous with their groundbreaking discoveries. Yet‚ behind these well-known figures lies a rich tapestry of unsung heroes whose inventions have equally transformed our lives‚ albeit without the same fanfare. This article explores the stories of these unsung heroes‚ whose contributions have left an indelible mark on the world. Philo Farnsworth Imagine a world without television‚ where the idea of transmitting moving images to a screen was pure science fiction. Enter Philo Farnsworth‚ a young inventor who‚ in the 1920s‚ developed the first electronic television system. Farnsworth’s invention laid the foundation for the global communication network we rely on today. Despite facing formidable challenges‚ including legal battles with large corporations that sought to control his technology‚ Farnsworth’s legacy as a pioneer of television technology endures. Cottonbro Studio | Pexels Stephanie Kwolek In the realm of materials science‚ few inventions have had as profound an impact as Kevlar. Developed by chemist Stephanie Kwolek in the 1960s‚ this high-strength material has saved countless lives using bulletproof vests and other protective gear. Kwolek’s discovery was serendipitous‚ stemming from her research into high-performance fibers. Her persistence and dedication to her work have ensured that Kevlar remains a critical component in safety equipment worldwide. Dr. Patricia Bath Breaking barriers both as an African American woman and as an innovator‚ Dr. Patricia Bath’s invention of laser cataract surgery in the 1980s revolutionized ophthalmology. Her invention‚ the Laserphaco Probe‚ allowed for more precise and less invasive cataract treatment‚ restoring sight to millions. Bath’s commitment to overcoming racial and gender obstacles in her field underscores her legacy as a trailblazer in medical science. Tu Youyou In a groundbreaking blend of traditional knowledge and modern science‚ Tu Youyou’s discovery of artemisinin has transformed the fight against malaria. Inspired by ancient Chinese herbal texts‚ Youyou’s research led to the development of an effective treatment for the disease‚ which has saved millions of lives across the globe. Her work‚ which earned her a Nobel Prize‚ highlights the importance of diverse approaches to scientific discovery. Maria Telkes A pioneer in renewable energy‚ Maria Telkes’s work in the mid-20th century laid the groundwork for the solar power technologies we rely on today. As a biophysicist and inventor‚ Telkes developed the first solar-powered heating system‚ demonstrating the potential of solar energy for sustainable living. Her vision of harnessing the sun’s power has inspired generations of scientists and engineers to explore renewable energy solutions. Anil Joshi Bringing innovation to environmental conservation‚ Anil Joshi has developed a range of eco-friendly technologies to promote sustainable living in rural India. From water conservation systems to renewable energy solutions‚ Joshi’s inventions address critical environmental challenges while supporting the livelihoods of rural communities. His work exemplifies the power of grassroots innovation in driving positive environmental change. Radia Perlman Dubbed the “mother of the internet‚” Radia Perlman’s invention of the spanning-tree protocol was a game-changer in the development of modern networking. This protocol allowed for the creation of large‚ robust network infrastructures‚ enabling the internet to scale and grow into the vast‚ interconnected web we know today. Perlman’s contributions to computer science have been fundamental in shaping the digital world. Alan Emtage In the dawn of the digital age‚ Alan Emtage conceived and developed Archie‚ the world’s first internet search engine. This groundbreaking tool allowed users to locate files across the internet‚ paving the way for the search technologies that have become integral to our online experience. Emtage’s work demonstrates the transformative power of innovation in connecting people and information. EVG Kowalievska | Unsplash The Bottom Line The stories of these lesser-known inventors remind us of the myriad ways in which creativity and perseverance can alter the course of history.
