Gov. Abbott‚ Send Every Illegal to Washington‚ D.C.‚ From Now On

Walter Samuel‚ a pseudonym for “a prolific international affairs writer and academic‚” penned a quite interesting piece for the website of AMAC‚ the Association of Mature American Citizens (perhaps best described as the conservative version of AARP) last week. Samuel’s topic was “How The Migrant Crisis Destroyed American Liberalism‚” and it was a pretty good summation of the catastrophic political damage the Biden administration’s border invasion policy is wrecking. Samuel writes: When history is written‚ the decision of Texas Governor Greg Abbott‚ who was widely mocked by the mainstream media when he announced it in 2021‚ to bus migrants from the border into blue-state sanctuary cities may be remembered as one of the most momentous in modern history. It was definitely among the most politically clever. Over nearly three years‚ Abbott’s decision effectively nationalized the costs of an issue that had previously only produced localized winners and losers — border state residents paid the costs of mass illegal migration while blue state residents far from the border enjoyed cheap labor and the chance to be morally righteous. For all Democrats like to talk about redistribution of resources and “privilege‚” the bussing of migrants was the most successful redistributive policy in recent memory — one which has left Democrats with no answer. One reason it succeeded was because it played on the class divisions that define American politics. Modern American liberalism is less a collection of policy positions based on a worldview than an effort by individuals to demonstrate their own social status through demonstrating contempt toward those beneath them. Critics of the shift away from the basics of math‚ science‚ and reading‚ toward DEI and weird sexual education curricula in schools often miss that‚ for liberals‚ sending one’s children to a school that teaches gibberish rather than reading‚ writing‚ and arithmetic is in effect a method of demonstrating that your family is connected enough to ensure that your children can secure college admission and employment without the need to learn real skills. That is why the inability of those graduates to secure employment or repay student loans is such an issue for Biden’s base. The ability to take useless degrees and succeed is intrinsic to their identity. Immigration took on a similar tone. The ability to make high-minded moral proclamations such as “no human is illegal‚” “walls are racist‚” or “borders are illegitimate” advertised that those making such claims had the economic clout to build their own domestic walls to keep the consequences of their own ideology out of their communities. “Well‚ I have never had a problem with migrants‚” the liberal from suburban Boston would say‚ before noting how much harder Ecuadorians worked on their vacation home renovation than local Americans who were probably addicted to opioids. The ability to prioritize foreign illegal migrants over native workers implied that liberals were above both and in a position to pass judgment upon them. Support for open borders became a way to punish working-class Americans for failing to show adequate deference to their “betters.” The policy of bussing migrants to sanctuary communities in blue states cleverly destroyed the basis of this ideological worldview. This was not merely by causing liberals to feel the pain in their communities — that was an element‚ and an effective one at that‚ but the assault went deeper. This is true — as far as it goes. Samuel has it right that busing migrants to blue cities is transformative in the sense that‚ yes‚ it makes comfortable liberals and leftists‚ who thought they would pleasure themselves by virtue-signaling that they lived in “sanctuary cities‚” uncomfortable. But‚ at scale‚ it also defeats the border invasion at the heart of the motivation behind it. READ MORE from Scott McKay: Five Quick Things: The End-Of-Days Vibe Namely‚ that the point of opening the border to all comers — or‚ at least‚ a very large chunk of the point — is to turn Texas from red to blue. And those buses of migrants from Texas to big blue cities in big blue states‚ at least at scale‚ would not only block Texas’ political transformation but inflict the kind of political woe on the “sanctuary city” Left that the Biden border-invasion policy would inflict on Texas. But here’s the problem: Those buses don’t represent scale. Not when they’re sending migrants to lots of destinations. There are nowhere near enough migrants going to those cities to effect the kind of surrender we need. And‚ unfortunately‚ time isn’t on the side of those who would save the country from what the border invasion will do to education‚ health care‚ law enforcement‚ housing‚ crime‚ the environment‚ wages‚ culture‚ and politics if this invasion is not stopped and reversed. Because the longer this continues without resolution‚ the worse it’s going to get in the halls of power in Washington‚ D.C. Last week we had the rumblings of a “bipartisan” Senate bill that would supposedly provide “solutions” to the border invasion. It was the classic Failure Theater betrayal and surrender that the GOP’s discredited establishment can’t stop imposing on its own voters. A Breitbart piece outlined the contours of the plan: 1) Increase green cards by 50‚000/year 2) Work permits for adult children of H-1B holders 3) Immediate work permits to every illegal alien released from custody 4) Taxpayer funded lawyers to certain UACs and mentally incompetent aliens 5) Expulsion authority for a limited number of days ONLY if encounters exceed 5k/day over a seven day period 6) Restricts parole for those who enter without authorization between ports of entry To his credit‚ House Speaker Mike Johnson tweeted a defiant response. “Absolutely not‚” he said. Unfortunately‚ Johnson’s 219-vote majority in the House is a phantom one. It is not in evidence that he could stop a bargain such as the one Sen. James Lankford (R-Okla) — who‚ to be fair‚ is protesting‚ without a great deal of believable refutation‚ that his deal is much better than that which has been reported — and his patron‚ GOP Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell‚ are presenting in concert with Chuck Schumer and the Democrats‚ who are actively seeking to replace the current American electorate with the millions of migrants currently crossing the border. Or‚ if not those migrants‚ then certainly their children. The problem we have is that Washington is not listening. The Biden administration‚ which is drowning in disapproval from the American public‚ with this issue leading a panoply of causes‚ isn’t listening; likely because Joe Biden isn’t in control of that administration‚ and those who are clearly don’t fear his defeat enough to change course. Moreover‚ the Democrats on Capitol Hill are committed to going down with the Biden ship on immigration. You have to admire their Borg-like party loyalty‚ if not their patriotism or intelligence. How does Cori Bush‚ representing the slums of St. Louis‚ continue bleating out the party line when illegals depress the wages and reduce the quality of life for her people? You’d think the pressure on schools‚ hospitals‚ the justice system‚ housing‚ and lots of other things that negatively affect the American poor as a direct result of a migrant invasion would turn Bush into a dissident within her own party. Instead‚ she’s whining about Gaza and demanding trans rights and Medicare for all — which would‚ one assumes‚ include all the migrants. None of them are listening. And McConnell and the Establishment GOP are still listening to the corporate open-borders crowd who clamor for as many cheap-labor-providing migrants as they can get. They’re not listening. Even as their ridiculous presidential candidate‚ Nikki Haley‚ faces humiliation at the hands of the voting public in the coming primaries‚ they’re not listening. It’s a few Senate Republicans and a decent number — but not enough for a congressional majority — of House Republicans‚ and a goodly number of Republican governors and other statewide officials‚ and that’s about it in the political class who are listening. We can’t even count on the “ultra-conservative” Supreme Court‚ which on Monday betrayed the country by ruling that a razor-wire fence set up along the Rio Grande by the state of Texas had to come down so that the Border Patrol could escort invaders into the country: A divided Supreme Court on Monday allowed Border Patrol agents to cut razor wire that Texas installed on the U.S.-Mexico border‚ while a lawsuit over the wire continues. The justices‚ by a 5-4 vote‚ granted an emergency appeal from the Biden administration‚ which has been in an escalating standoff at the border with Texas and had objected to an appellate ruling in favor of the state. The concertina wire along roughly 30 miles (48 kilometers) of the Rio Grande near the border city of Eagle Pass is part of Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s broader fight with the administration over immigration enforcement. Abbott also has authorized installing floating barriers in the Rio Grande near Eagle Pass and allowed troopers to arrest and jail thousands of migrants on trespassing charges. The administration also is challenging those actions in federal court. A federal appeals court last month forced federal agents to stop cutting the concertina wire. Large numbers of migrants have crossed at Eagle Pass in recent months. Wonder why razor wire around the U.S. Capitol was constitutional with no showing of necessity‚ but razor wire to stop a border invasion is not. But I digress. If this is how it’s going to be‚ then clearly the ruling class is much too comfortable within the prosperous confines of the Beltway. And that must change. Abbott needs to stop busing migrants to Chicago‚ New York‚ Detroit‚ Denver‚ and other blue cities around the country and focus his itineraries on the one place that matters most. Every single migrant who crosses into Texas ought to be collected and shipped to Washington‚ D.C. Let the nation’s capital become the world’s largest migrant camp. Let the schools‚ hospitals‚ gymnasia‚ theaters‚ hotels‚ airports‚ train stations‚ police stations‚ fire stations‚ arenas‚ and government buildings be overrun with migrants to such an extent that nothing but their care can be accomplished. Turn every park in Washington into a tent city for Bolivians‚ Guatemalans‚ Chinese‚ and Pakistanis to litter‚ micturate‚ and defecate at their leisure within. Shut down D.C. with illegal migrants. Bury it. Focus the suffering; trap it where the power brokers live. Make them so miserable that they scream for respite from the refugee camp their city has become. Maybe then we’ll see some change. What we know is that the ruling class‚ the out-of-touch‚ insufferable elite who populate that place‚ won’t stop inflicting pain until it’s inflicted on them. And not enough is getting to them. So bring it right to their doorstep. Now. Faster. Order Scott’s new book‚ Racism‚ Revenge and Ruin: It’s All Obama‚ here today! The post Gov. Abbott‚ Send Every Illegal to Washington‚ D.C.‚ From Now On appeared first on The American Spectator | USA News and Politics.

America Is Better Off Now That DeSantis Will Govern Florida for Four More Years

Ron DeSantis’ decision to step aside in the 2024 Presidential Derby is great all around. He really needs to govern Florida for several more years into a second term. He is a great governor‚ almost certainly the best around today and maybe among the greatest ever. He came in as a barely known congressman who barely eeked past a quasi-criminal mayor from Tallahassee for governor. Not at all impressive. His opponent‚ Andrew Gillum‚ was a bum‚ indicted on 21 felony counts including wire fraud‚ conspiracy‚ and making false statements. (Interesting‚ isn’t it‚ how Democrats pour millions and volunteer their heads off‚ singing‚ “For he’s a jolly good felon / For he’s a jolly good felon‚” for candidates with 21 federal felony indictments when it is their guy who belongs in the hoosegow.) The jury hung on everything but the false statements. The race was so pitifully close that‚ after Gillum conceded‚ he recanted the next day‚ as felons often do after first admitting their crimes without an attorney advising them to deny everything‚ and demanded a recount. In the end‚ the bum got 49.19 percent of the vote‚ and DeSantis got 49.59 percent — a razor-thin 0.4 percent edge. DeSantis beat America’s weakest political candidate by less than half a point. Yikes! And then DeSantis blew the whole state into orbit. READ MORE: College Grads for Trump It is amazing that American candidates who win by enormous landslides often end up in ignominy while those who barely make it to the finish line serve in historically great ways. Dwight D. Eisenhower won handily twice‚ with Adlai Stevenson his convenient foil‚ but Ike’s presidencies were not distinguished. He just had the enormous good luck of getting to be president right after we eradicated‚ extirpated‚ and kind-of exterminated Germany and Japan. We ruled the roost. It was a time of grand peace. Other than some Quakers and a handful of Communists and other leftist crazies‚ America had fought in unison and now celebrated the hard-won peace in unity. It was not a perfect time; no time is. There was pernicious racism yet to be overcome. Stalin quietly was now beginning to try building his Soviet Union into a greater world power. Mao now was quietly consolidating. On Ike’s watch‚ the Communists in the Soviet Union and China strengthened their grips‚ and we ended up in a Korean War that marked the new era of America fighting no longer to win but to contain‚ which is a nice way to say we now put off the problems until later when they get worse and more perilous. But it was a great time. It seemed the biggest problems bothering most Americans were the kinds that upset the homes of Ozzie and Harriet Nelson‚ Ward and June Cleaver‚ and Donna Reed and her physician husband. Everyone ate dinner together. There was no great Generation Gap. The pill had not yet ushered in all manner of unexpected political and social issues‚ even as it prevented biological issues. It is not clear that Ike left behind a meaningful legacy. He just lucked out‚ G-d’s gift to him for leading the Allies through the War. By contrast‚ John F. Kennedy barely got elected (and maybe he did not)‚ but he ended up successfully keeping inflation tame‚ taxes moderate‚ and achieving greatness by staring Khruschev down‚ readily agreeing to face off with him over the missiles the Soviets placed in Cuba. He messed up badly with the Bay of Pigs‚ but JFK demonstrated without blinking that he was prepared to go to World War III if that was the price to pay to keep Soviet ballistic missiles outside the Western hemisphere. They don’t make Democrats like that anymore. Today‚ with Joe Biden and Antony Blinken‚ Cuba would be sinking in the waters from the weight of all the Soviet missiles that would be stationed there. One might add‚ off the instant topic‚ that Israel might take note that‚ while Biden and Blinken counsel them to back down and agree to a ceasefire and to stop bombing Hamas frontally to win‚ the same Americans hardly followed such advice about forestalling backyard murderers and cutthroats when the threat was in our own backyard. When it was our skin on the line‚ we were ready to go to full nuclear war if that was what it took to keep our backyard tame. In 1964‚ “Landslide Lyndon” Johnson (so nicknamed because he stole a razor-thin local election years earlier) really did win by a landslide of historic proportions against Barry Goldwater. One would have thought he would have enjoyed smooth sailing. Yet Johnson’s term ended in disaster‚ and he had to bow out rather than seek reelection. Presidents never do that‚ as witness our current doddering executive. But Johnson was challenged vigorously from within his own party by the likes of Sens. Eugene McCarthy of Wisconsin and Robert Kennedy of New York‚ and he backed out. The 1968 Republican candidate‚ Richard Nixon‚ emerged to beat Hubert Humphrey only barely in 1968‚ helped over the finish line as Democrats self-destructed during their Chicago convention. It was ironic that Mayor Richard Daley’s missteps at the 1968 Chicago convention probably made the difference in winning for 1968 Nixon after the same exact Mayor Richard Daley of the same exact Chicago probably stole the election from 1960 Nixon. History is interesting and fun to learn when it is based on true facts. We really do learn from the real past. Those who deconstruct the lessons of history are doomed to deconstruct the future dangers that loom to their detriment‚ and they cannot learn from a past they have fictionalized. Nixon came home with 43.4 percent of the vote‚ Humphrey with 42.7. (George Wallace ran the most significant third-party campaign in years during that race‚ garnering 13.5 percent of the vote‚ 5 states‚ and 46 electoral votes. Still‚ with an electoral vote edge over Humphrey of 301–191‚ Nixon was the one.) So there was Nixon‚ with an itsy-bitsy winning margin in 1968‚ but that did not impede him. He had a remarkable term‚ pursuing détente with Leonid Brezhnev and Alexei Kosygin and rapprochement with Red China‚ and getting to seat three Supreme Court justices‚ one suitable for his conservative electorate and two apostates. He was never the conservative he portrayed himself as being when it came to walking the walk. But he got to do it his way‚ despite his paper-thin margin. After naming Warren Earl Burger to the Supreme Court‚ Nixon perpetrated an historically disastrous perfidy by seating Harry Blackmun after his nominations of Clement Haynsworth and G. Harrold Carswell went down in flames‚ and then another disaster in Lewis Powell. Still‚ in 1972 he glided into the biggest landslide ever as he trounced George McGovern. With that kind of massive win‚ it was predictable — in the crazy topsy-turvy way politics seems to work — that disaster would ensue. He ran into the Arab oil boycott‚ but his real disaster was the incredibly self-inflicted political nightmare of Watergate. Too sure of himself? Why would anyone break into the opponent’s campaign headquarters‚ risking the political and legal fallout that could ensue‚ while enjoying such an overwhelming‚ insurmountable lead? It is a question not for political scientists but for therapists. (READ MORE: It’s Not Just Watergate: Much of Our Recent History Is Misunderstood) And so it often has gone. Politicians who barely win go on to achieve great things‚ unhindered by the slimness of their majorities and perhaps motivated by a sense of “Whaddo I gotta lose?” And huge winners go down in shame and humiliation‚ not in flames but in infernos‚ perhaps having become overconfident in their popularity. Indeed‚ the first George Bush was so popular amid the First Gulf War that it was inevitable he would mistake wildly positive poll numbers with the idea that people actually liked him. Ronald Reagan handed him a great economy and the end of the Cold War. He marched into Panama and arrested Manuel Noriega‚ locking him up in Florida. And in March 1991‚ at the height of the Iraq War that drove Saddam Hussein back out of Kuwait‚ his Gallup polling was at 89 percent‚ the highest popularity in the history of such polling. Yet‚ by the time he ran against Bill Clinton 18 months later‚ he could not win reelection even though the Arkansan with the Loose Zipper never could garner a majority of American voters. Clinton got only a measly 43 percent of the vote‚ but Bush out-failed him with 37.45 percent. Ross Perot pulled 18.9 percent. Thus‚ Ron DeSantis is a governor in that historic mold: He won by so little that he had no choice but to go for broke‚ prove he would not be hindered by barely winning‚ and thus be great in office. Indeed‚ he has been. But Biden’s three years have proven that four years of a predecessor is not enough for that prior executive to implant his changes in the body politic. Trump made his executive orders on Day One‚ and Biden just as surely reversed them on his Day One before those changes really had come to “stick.” Four years is not long enough. Even eight years is tough to leave a lasting legacy‚ but sometimes it can stick. An executive needs eight years at least to leave some kind of mark. Reagan had eight years‚ and he left a strong change‚ impacting greater American society‚ even though two Bushes‚ a Clinton‚ and an Obama all combined to slice away for 28 years until nothing was left of it. Conservatives need for Florida to continue showing the way‚ with a strong conservative governor with real guts — guts enough to take on his state’s powerhouse corporation‚ Disney; guts to take on the teachers’ unions; guts to take over the state colleges‚ throw all of DEI out with the trash‚ set up his own boards of trustees‚ and re-think the scam of faculty tenure as it presently exists; and guts to ship illegals to the blue states and cities that virtue signal as “sanctuaries” for those who do not have a right to be here. DeSantis took a swing state and made it solid red by 2022. That was exciting but needs to be consolidated. We saw how Virginia’s initial tilt right for Glenn Youngkin has not quite faltered but also not gained further momentum from his initial gains. Florida needs DeSantis to stay put and consolidate his achievements before moving on. The war on Disney is not over‚ nor is the war on the woke colleges‚ nor the wars against the school districts and against the Democrats who would flood Florida with new imported voters if they could. His time will come in 2028‚ unless Trump (i) is elected in November and (ii) wins the right to run again in 2028 as a 47th president seeking a second term rather than as a person seeking a third term. In that case‚ DeSantis’ day will come in 2032. It has been clear for more than a year that Trump will walk away with the GOP presidential nomination. It made kind-of sense for DeSantis to throw his hat in the ring anyway‚ to explore whether GOP voters would shy away from Trump because of all the indictments‚ the chaos of his prior term‚ and other negatives emanating from a mass media that lives off character assassination‚ in tandem with a Pelosi Democrat criminal enterprise that foisted false charges and perjuries for four years. If‚ in fact‚ the GOP base had inclined to turn away from Trump‚ it was DeSantis’ duty to be in the mix to prevent the nod from going to a McCain/Romney/Bush Republican‚ several of whom ran‚ with one still in the mix. But the base has remained with Trump‚ and DeSantis has read the tea leaves correctly before allowing New Hampshire’s insane crossover primary system to derail him. It’s all good. In it‚ he uses historic video clips of Irgun‚ Lechi‚ and Haganah actions and decades of past Arab terrorist atrocities‚ as well as stirring musical selections from the underground and video interviews of participants‚ to augment data‚ statistics‚ maps‚ and additional historical records to create a fascinating‚ often gripping‚ and scholarly enriching educational experience about issues that remain deeply relevant today as Israel engages in an existential war in Gaza against Hamas terrorism. His latest deeply moving series of informational and inspirational programs on the Hamas Gaza war may be found here. Because of some sensitive subject matter and viewing content relating to Hamas terror‚ YouTube is restricting some of the early programs to viewers 18 and up. And his 40-part Bible study series covering all of I Samuel (First Samuel) is now up here. The New York Times Lectures Republicans on Trump

Talk about a lack of self-awareness. As Iowans were heading to do their caucus voting on that cold Jan. 15‚ the New York Times took to lecturing Republicans about former President Donald Trump. The editorial was titled: The Responsibility of Republican Voters And a better example of just why millions of Americans support the former president would be hard to find. In fact‚ by that very night‚ Trump was defeating his closest opponent‚ Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis‚ by 30 points‚ winning 51 percent of the vote. (READ MORE: Iowa Knockout: A Caucus Turns Into a Coronation) So let’s work through this masterpiece of irony and unawareness. With bold print for emphasis supplied here‚ the editorial board writes: Republicans who will gather to cast the first votes of the 2024 presidential primary season have one essential responsibility: to nominate a candidate who is fit to serve as president‚ one who will “preserve‚ protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.” Donald Trump‚ who has proved himself unwilling to do so‚ is manifestly unworthy. He is facing criminal trials for his conduct as a candidate in 2016‚ as president and as a former president. In this‚ his third presidential bid‚ he has intensified his multiyear campaign to undermine the rule of law and the democratic process. He has said that if elected‚ he will behave like a dictator on “Day 1” and that he will direct the Justice Department to investigate his political rivals and his critics in the media‚ declaring that the greatest dangers to the nation come “not from abroad but from within.” First: The multiple criminal charges against Donald Trump are the perfect illustration of a power-crazed political and legal establishment weaponizing government to target a political opponent. It is the stuff of a banana republic‚ not the Constitution. Yet there is the New York Times‚ in the style of the old Soviet Union’s newspaper Pravda‚ the leading propaganda broadsheet of the Communist Party‚ pushing the bold lie that Trump‚ who never used the Department of Justice to prosecute his opponents‚ would abruptly change course — and do exactly what President Joe Biden himself is now doing. Anyone who was paying attention to Trump’s interview with Sean Hannity when he discussed being “a dictator” on “Day 1” knows exactly what he was talking about. That would be using the quite legal powers of the presidency to seal the border‚ halting the flood of illegal immigration — and also restoring a policy of drilling for energy to once again restore the U.S. to energy independence. And when it comes to Trump using federal authority on the operation of the border? Amusingly‚ only yesterday the Supreme Court ruled that the federal government has authority over Texas when it comes to taking down the “concertina-wire barrier erected by Texas along the Mexican border” (as the Times referred to the decision). Which is to say that‚ looked at through the Times lens‚ the court has cleared exactly Biden’s ability to act like a “dictator” and unilaterally take down the Texas border wire that the governor of Texas had erected to protect Texas citizens. One feels certain the Times approves of Joe the Dictator on the border wire. The Times goes on to say: Mr. Trump’s record of contempt for the Constitution — and his willingness to corrupt people‚ systems and processes to his advantage — puts all of it at risk. Really? Really? It is Biden who has‚ according to the Times itself‚ “confided to his inner circle” that Trump was “a threat to democracy and should be prosecuted.” And‚ presto‚ the Biden Justice Department‚ breaking 200 plus years of precedent‚ has set about using the Department of Justice to prosecute Biden’s leading opponent. Not a peep of objection from the Times. The paper goes on to airily preach: Upholding the Constitution means accepting the results of elections. Yet the Times seems not to have taken that message to Hillary Clinton or Georgia defeated Democrat gubernatorial candidate Stacy Abrams. The New York Times criticizes Trump for “repeatedly” having “attacked the integrity of other government officials‚” including “federal judges.” Apparently‚ the editorial board has missed headlines like this one over at Newsweek:        Joe Biden Steps Up Attack on Supreme Court Biden’s wrath targeting the court is‚ of course‚ because the Supremes had the audacity to rule that abortion’s Roe v. Wade was unconstitutional. But it’s OK for this president to attack the court for that. In classic style‚ the New York Times ends its lecture to Republicans saying‚ without a trace of irony‚ that: Mr. Trump is now distinguished from the rest of the Republican candidates primarily by his contempt for the rule of law. The sooner he is rejected‚ the sooner the Republican Party can return to the difficult but necessary task of working within the system to achieve its goals. In other words? Repeatedly standing up for Joe Biden’s contempt for the law and simply ignoring Biden’s corruption of the Department of Justice to target his leading political opponent is a class example of the Times’ and the larger American Left’s utter contempt for the Constitution and for Americans themselves. And it is exactly this two-tiered standard of justice — one standard for the Left and another altogether for conservatives and Trump supporters — that is unquestionably fueling the energy of the Trump base. And the response of Iowa voters on the very day that editorial was published? They voted for a Trump landslide.
