Texas Dems Continue To Block Election Integrity Efforts

Overall, 2025 has been a blockbuster year for election integrity. Conservative states across the country advanced popular measures ending the late receipt of mail ballots and banning foreign interference in state elections. But in one of the most conservative states in America, it was a vastly different story. Texas lawmakers started the year strong, with the Republican-led Senate passing a series of significant bills. But in the House, Democrats conspired to kill one reform after the other. History should record 2025 as the year Democrats sided with progressive activists and foreign-funded special interests against everyday Texans who just believe that it should be easy to vote and hard to cheat. First on the Democrats’ chopping block was SB16, a commonsense bill requiring proof of citizenship before anyone can register and vote. Americans overwhelmingly oppose noncitizen voting, and last year a University of Houston survey found that just 56% of Texas voters believed noncitizens would be adequately prevented from voting. SB16 was intended to give the state new tools to do just that. Had it passed, Texas would be the gold standard for ensuring that only citizens can vote. Texas Democrats obviously feel differently, but don’t expect them to admit it. Instead, they will hide behind the handful of liberal lawmakers who broke ranks and voted to put a constitutional ban on noncitizen voting on the ballot. But it is highly cynical to ban noncitizen voting and then block the tools officials need to effectively and efficiently enforce it. What do Texas Democrats have to fear from verifying that only American citizens are voting in American elections? The public deserves to know. Next on the Democrats’ hit list: A bill to ban foreign interference in Texas elections. SB2035 would have protected state constitutional amendments and other ballot measures from the influence of foreign nationals. The measure passed overwhelmingly in the Senate, but House Democrats killed the bill with a procedural motion in the dead of night. They may regret that move in the light of day. Americans overwhelmingly oppose foreign interference, and seven states have passed similar bans this year alone. All these states are reacting to a growing problem. It is illegal for foreign nationals to contribute to any candidate running for political office. But a loophole allows these same foreign interests to finance highly impactful ballot measure campaigns. Just one example: Hansjörg Wyss, a Swiss billionaire, has poured almost $300 million into a far-Left, D.C.-based dark money group called the Sixteen Thirty Fund. In turn, they have dumped $130 million in foreign-tied funds into ballot measures advancing progressive causes in 26 states. The Texas legislature was close to closing that foreign funding loophole once and for all, until Democrats sided with foreign billionaires and fought to keep their foreign dark money flowing. Democrats in the Lone Star State also killed SB310, a bill to definitively ban ranked-choice voting. Ranked-choice voting is a confusing, complex system that has been rejected across the country. It leads to voter confusion, disenfranchisement, and head-scratching outcomes that see losers transformed into winners. In Alaska’s first ranked-choice election, for example, a Democrat was declared the winner of a race for the U.S. House even though Republican candidates won roughly 60% of the vote. Results like this explain why liberal organizations and their billionaire donors are spending tens of millions of dollars across the country to sell the public on ranked-choice voting. Ranked-choice voting’s impact on elections is so corrosive and unpopular that 17 states have taken the extraordinary step of banning it, including six states this year alone. Six more states rejected ranked-choice voting ballot measures last year by wide, bipartisan margins. But not Texas, thanks to another late-night procedural maneuver from the Left. Three times in one year, Texas Democrats put partisan politics ahead of integrity and trust in elections. Thanks to their stonewalling, Texas is falling behind other states that made election integrity a priority. Unless Governor Abbott calls a special session, lawmakers won’t have another chance to beef up the security of Texas elections until 2027. By then, another presidential election will be looming and the stakes will be that much higher. There will be no excuses—not even Democrats’ intransigence—for failing to get commonsense measures like foreign funding bans across the finish line. This year, Democrats stood with foreign billionaires and defended noncitizen voting. Texans, and all Americans, deserve to know why. * * * Jason Snead is the executive director of Honest Elections Project Action. Medicaid Is A Slush Fund For Labor And The Left

Medicaid Is A Slush Fund For Labor And The Left

Medicaid, like its first cousins, Medicare and Social Security, has long been recognized as the Third Rail of the nation’s politics for its ability to instantly terminate the career of anyone reckless enough to tamper with a benefit to which millions of Americans in need have been assured they are entitled. But the program is equally untouchable where government employee unions and their allies on the political Left are concerned because it offers an enormous slush fund to which only they have access. Here’s how it works: In return for providing basic home health assistance to elderly and low-income Americans — usually a friend or family member — designated caregivers can receive a monthly stipend from Medicaid. Years ago, union leaders and politicians in primarily blue states devised a legal scheme by which this Medicaid payment meant the caregiver was considered a “public employee” and, thus, subject to his or her state’s rules regarding the mandatory deduction of union dues or fees from their pay. Even though the U.S. Supreme Court has since affirmed the right of caregivers to decline union membership and dues, many blue states make opting out of union dues payments needlessly difficult in order to preserve the roughly $200-million-a-year windfall in Medicaid funds still flowing into union coffers. To cite just the most egregious example, in the 1990s, California became the first state to provide for the unionization of homecare workers. Today, these “individual providers” (IPs) serve Medicaid clients through the state’s In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) program and are represented by either the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 2015 or United Domestic Workers (UDW) Local 3930. To put the matter in perspective, SEIU 2015 now claims to be one of the largest unions in California, raking in more than $114 million in dues last year alone from its nearly 250,000 members. Again, IPs cannot be forced to join a union. In 2014, the U.S. Supreme Court issued a ruling in Harris v. Quinn affirming that Medicaid-compensated individual caregivers are “quasi-public employees” and not subject to state laws making union membership and dues a condition of government employment. Four years later, in Janus v. AFSCME, the justices recognized that the same First Amendment right applies to all public employees. Since then, hundreds of thousands of government workers have left their unions, but the overwhelming majority remain in the fold either because they: A.) want to; B.) haven’t heard about the court rulings; or, C.) have been misled or browbeaten by the unions into believing their participation is still mandatory. Unlike traditional government employees, homecare providers like IPs, by definition, work from a private home (often their own), and their “employer” is the friend or family member they look after. Consequently, the unions representing IPs seldom have any real grievances regarding their workplace or employer, concentrating instead only on compensation. And yet they charge some of the highest dues rates in all of organized labor. Members of SEIU 2015, for example, see a whopping 3% of their gross wages deducted from their Medicaid payments. This outrageous dues rate, combined with limited representational obligations, leaves unions with more money than they know what to do with. For its part, SEIU 2015 reported cash reserves of more than $142 million at the end of 2024. According to the union’s own accounting, less than one-fifth of the money the union collects from members goes towards representational activity. Much of the rest is devoted to advancing far-Left political candidates and causes. In 2024, SEIU 2015 reported spending $6.4 million on politics, lobbying, and contributions, including $35,000 to the California Democratic Party, $451,000 to California Democratic Party county committees, and $25,000 to Equality California, the “nation’s largest statewide LGBTQ+ civil rights organization.” In addition, SEIU 2015 paid $40.7 million in affiliation fees to SEIU California and the SEIU international headquarters in Washington, D.C., to fund their equally radical political activism. UDW was no less profligate. The union collected more than $35 million in 2022 from its more than 78,000 members, who surrendered 3.5% of their gross Medicaid reimbursements — even more than their SEIU 2015 counterparts. UDW reported spending close to $3 million on politics, lobbying, and contributions in 2022, the last year for which data is available. Finally, UDW pays about $12 million in affiliation fees each year to its parent organization, the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), in Washington, D.C., underwriting the international union’s uber-progressive political agenda. Small wonder the alliance between labor and the Left continues to treat every worker defection as an existential threat. It is. Stripped of this Medicaid-funded, taxpayer-underwritten war chest and forced to support their failed candidates and causes solely through voluntary donations from people who actually agree with them, unions and their pet politicians would face an even bleaker future than the one already confronting them. The law has always intended for Medicaid payments to be made directly and in full to Medicaid providers, but government unions have figured out a way to use it as a slush fund for Left-wing politics. President Trump has the ability to end this scheme by implementing a rule change to uphold the integrity of federal Medicaid laws and stop the diversion of Medicaid funds to unions. * * * Aaron Withe is the CEO of the Freedom Foundation, a group dedicated to combatting government unions. ‘You Know Where To Find Me’: Newsom Dares Border Czar To Arrest Him Over Anti-ICE Riots

California Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom condemned the Trump administration on Sunday and dared border czar Tom Homan to arrest him amid the anti-ICE riots in Los Angeles County. Trump drew the ire of California Democrats, such as Newsom and L.A. Mayor Karen Bass, after he deployed the National Guard to shut down the riots that broke out over the weekend. Homan then warned Newsom and Bass against impeding federal law enforcement officers and threatened them with arrest if they “cross[ed]” the line.” The California governor shot back, imploring the Trump administration to keep their “hands off these poor people” who are “just trying to live their lives.” “He’s a tough guy. Why doesn’t he do that? He knows where to find me,” Newsom said of Homan in an interview with MSNBC. “The hell are they doing? These guys need to grow up,” he continued. “They need to stop, and we need to push back. And I’m sorry to be so clear, but that kind of bloviating is exhausting. So, Tom, arrest me. Let’s go,” he added. “But you know what? Let your hands off 4-year-old girls that are trying to get educated. Let your hands off these poor people. They’re just trying to live their lives, man,” Newsom added. “Trying to live their lives, paying their taxes. Been here for 10 years. The fear, the horror.” Over the weekend, federal immigration agents, along with state and local law enforcement officers, were attacked by rioters hurling rocks, concrete, and “commercial grade fireworks” — actions that LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell said could have killed the police officers. At least one Customs and Border Protection agent was injured after rioters pelted his vehicle with rocks. Many of the rioters waved foreign flags and burned self-driving robotaxis in the street. Homan responded to Newsom on Monday morning, telling “Fox & Friends” that “no one’s above the law,” but added that there was no discussion about arresting the governor. “What we discussed was for those protesters that crossed the line … you can protest, you get your First Amendment rights, but when you cross that line, you put hands on an ICE officer or you destroy property or I’d say that you impede law enforcement, or you’re knowingly harboring and concealing an illegal alien, that’s a crime, and the Trump administration is not going to tolerate it,” Homan said. “Then the reporter asked me, well, could Governor Newsom or Mayor Bass be arrested? I said, ‘Well no one’s above the law. If they cross the line and commit a crime, absolutely they can,’ so there was no discussion about arresting Newsom,” he added. Newsom said that California would file a lawsuit against the Trump administration on Monday over the National Guard deployment to Los Angeles, arguing that Trump’s move is “unconstitutional.” Newsom stated that the Trump administration did not coordinate with his office on deploying 2,000 National Guard troops, despite Trump’s order claiming otherwise. Trump has not invoked the Insurrection Act of 1807, which allows the president to federalize the National Guard and deploy the U.S. military to quell domestic disorder or violence. “We have no problem working collaboratively in a mutual aid system with local law enforcement. But there’s a protocol, there’s a process. He didn’t care about that. And the worst part, he completely lied,” Newsom added. The Insurrection Act of 1807 was most recently invoked by President George H.W. Bush in 1992 to respond to the Rodney King riots in Los Angeles. On Saturday, Newsom accused the Trump administration of deploying the National Guard because the White House wants “a spectacle.” Mario Tama/Getty Images Trump blasted Newsom and Bass for allowing the anti-ICE protests to get out of control. “Governor Gavin Newscum and ‘Mayor’ Bass should apologize to the people of Los Angeles for the absolutely horrible job that they have done, and this now includes the ongoing L.A. riots,” Trump wrote. “These are not protesters, they are troublemakers and insurrectionists. Remember, NO MASKS!” The president then said he has ordered Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, and Attorney General Pam Bondi “to take all such action necessary to liberate Los Angeles from the Migrant Invasion, and put an end to these Migrant riots.” Hegseth said on Saturday that active duty Marines stand ready to be “mobilized” to L.A. “if violence continues,” a statement that Newsom called “deranged behavior.”

Brand New Footage Purportedly Captures Bigfoot… Is It Real?

From the Loch Ness Monster to Bigfoot, humans have been questioning the existence of mysterious entities for hundreds of years. While some of us are confident they aren’t real, others hold onto the possibility. After a recent experience in Colorado, it seems that Logan Kirk belongs in the latter group. During a recent outing on the Colorado River, he managed to capture a potential video of Bigfoot. Logan is a lead guide with the Colorado River Expedition. He’s taken groups on countless adventures via whitewater rafting. Even still, he’s never made a discovery quite like this before. As he and 12 others stopped for lunch, they spotted an odd looking creature about 500 yards away. Check it out for yourself in the video below! @dailymail A mysterious figure was captured roaming the woods in Colorado, sparking theories that Bigfoot has finally been found – but what could it be? Tap the link to find out. A whitewater rafting crew was traveling down the Upper Colorado River when they pulled ashore for a break. Logan Kirk, the lead guide, told DailyMail.com that he and about 12 others had stopped for lunch when they spotted the creature roughly 500 yards away. It wasn’t a bear. It was standing up there on the hillside,” Logan recalls. “It was definitely bipedal, which really stood out to us.” Lead Whitewater Rafting Guide in Colorado Captures a Potential Bigfoot Sighting on Video Logan and the others tried to zoom into the image in order to figure out what they saw, but they haven’t had the best luck. As is the case with most potential images of Bigfoot, it’s just a bit too blurry. TikTok There are plenty of people who are confident it’s just a bear (or someone dressed up in a costume). But there are also folks like Logan who hold onto hope that, perhaps, one of the most popular cryptids in the world could actually be real. One thing is for sure: Logan will be returning to this area. “We’re gonna go up to see if we can find any evidence of what was going on up there, whether that’s footprints or something else,” Logan shares. “Who knows? It’s so hard in the rocks to actually get anything like that, but we want to see if there’s anything there.” You can find the source of this story’s featured image here!
