Netflix says it will stop reporting subscriber numbers‚ right after reporting it had 9 million new subscribers

Netflix will stop reporting subscriber numbers in 2025‚ stating that subscriber numbers are a decreasingly relevant measure for the status of the company. The announcement came in conjunction with the platform's latest subscriber update. The streaming service added 9.33 million subscribers for the first quarter of 2024‚ which means Netflix now has roughly 270 million subscribers across the world. In the United States and Canada‚ paid subscribers grew by 2.53 million. In Europe‚ the Middle East‚ and Africa‚ there were 2.92 million more subscribers. In Latin America‚ 1.72 million subscribers joined‚ while another 2.16 million signed up in the Asia-Pacific market. This was reported as a significant increase in subscriptions‚ blowing past projections. At the same time‚ Netflix said in a letter to shareholders that reporting the number of subscribers the platform has isn't as important as it used to be and that the reports will cease starting with Q1 2025. Netflix said engagement and time spent on the service are the &;quot;best proxy for customer satisfaction‚&;quot; Variety reported. The company will still announce &;quot;major subscriber milestones as we cross them‚&;quot; it claimed‚ but will cease the quarterly subscriber reports.Co-CEO Greg Peters reportedly said on an earnings call that the subscriber count has been a decreasingly relevant measure due in part to features on the platform. This included an example of how primary account holders can add an extra member on their accounts for a fee‚ and those members are not counted as additional subscribers.&;quot; As we’ve noted in previous letters‚ we're focused on revenue and operating margin as our primary financial metrics — and engagement (i.e. time spent) as our best proxy for customer satisfaction. In our early days‚ when we had little revenue or profit‚ membership growth was a strong indicator of our future potential‚&;quot; Netflix reported. &;quot; But now we’re generating very substantial profit and free cash flow (FCF). We are also developing new revenue streams like advertising and our extra member feature‚ so memberships are just one component of our growth.&;quot; How good are the numbers&;#63;Subscription numbers beginning to plateau are a real worry for the company‚ as international members pile into the service‚ making the reorientation of what the company views as successful an obvious step. For Q1 2024‚ the revenue is a stark 15% increase over Q1 2023‚ with revenue of $8.73 billion and a net income of $2.33 billion. The aforementioned free cash flow is reportedly a whopping $2.13 billion. For the second quarter of 2024‚ Netflix predicts almost $9.5 billion in revenue with a net income around the same as Q1‚ at $2.06 billion. The company expects revenue growth of between 13% and 15% for all of 2024‚ which would be at least double the growth it saw in 2022.&;quot;As we've evolved our pricing and plans from a single to multiple tiers with different price points depending on the country‚ each incremental paid membership has a very different business impact. It’s why we stopped providing quarterly paid membership guidance in 2023 and‚ starting next year with our Q1 ’25 earnings‚ we will stop reporting quarterly membership numbers and ARM‚&;quot; the company added. The reports moving forward will note revenue that acts to &;quot;complement&;quot; the company's financials and will forecast quarterly revenues‚ operating income‚ net income‚ and earnings per share‚ but not subscribers.Like Blaze News&;#63; Bypass the censors‚ sign up for our newsletters‚ and get stories like this direct to your inbox. Can’t afford a $3‚499 Apple Vision Pro&;#63; Meta Quest 2 is an even better alternative now

Can’t afford a $3‚499 Apple Vision Pro&;#63; Meta Quest 2 is an even better alternative now

Apple's exciting new Vision Pro headset is now available in several regions‚ and most people agree that it looks amazing. Unfortunately‚ most people also agree that the $3‚499 price tag is way too insane to even consider. Then there's the Meta Quest 3‚ which isn't nearly as impressive as Apple's spatial computer. It's also still pretty pricey at $499. If you want a VR headset that's actually affordable‚ you should definitely check out the Meta Quest 2 instead — especially now that Meta has permanently lowered the price. As you may or may not know‚ Meta recently cut the price of the Quest 2 so that the 128GB model is just $199. That's an incredible value‚ and it's available from plenty of retailers. You can currently pick up the 128GB Meta Quest 2 for an all-time low of $199 at Amazon or Walmart. Or‚ you can upgrade to the 256GB model for around $275 if you can find one in stock. The larger 256GB storage option has been discontinued now that the Quest 3 is available. Meta Quest 2 — Advanced All-In-One Virtual Reality Headset — 128 GB Price: $199 (was $249) You Save: $50.00 (20%) Buy Now Meta Quest 2 — Advanced All-In-One Virtual Reality Headset — 256 GB Price: $275 (reg. $349) Buy Now Meta's Quest 2 is nowhere near as advanced as Apple's Vision Pro headset. That should go without saying‚ of course. Comparing a $3‚499 mixed reality headset to a $249 VR headset is like comparing a Rolls Royce to a Honda Civic. Yes‚ they both have four wheels and two pedals‚ but the similarities end there. Apple showed off so many cool Vision Pro features during WWDC‚ and we've seen so much more since the headset was released. I haven't tried one yet myself‚ but you can read BGR's Vision Pro review to learn all about it. The mixed reality features look fantastic‚ and the theater mode with different environments could be so cool. The idea of watching a movie on a 100-inch screen in the middle of a realistic-looking forest is awesome. At the same time‚ however‚ I'm not sure how realistic some of Apple's use cases are for me‚ personally. Do I really want to sit through a 2+ hour movie with that thing strapped to my face&;#63; Do I want to watch that movie alone‚ since obviously no one else can see what's happening inside my headset&;#63; And working on three virtual screens looks cool‚ but the idea of spending a 10+ hour workday with a headset on seems outlandish. I think the Meta Quest 2 is more my speed‚ and you can currently get one at the newly reduced price from Amazon or Walmart. $349) Buy Now I have a ton of fun when I use the Meta Quest 2. It might not show people a digital rendering of my eyes when they walk by‚ but it does have a ton of fun games and other experiences. There's also the little difference that it only costs $199 instead of $3‚499. No‚ the Meta Quest 2 isn't a futuristic MR headset like the Vision Pro. It doesn't have any of the same advanced tech‚ and it doesn't have most of the nifty features that Apple showed off during its WWDC keynote. But Meta's Quest 2 is great for light VR gaming and other fun VR experiences. At $199 in brand-new condition‚ it's a fantastic value. Of note‚ there's still an opportunity to save if you can't find it in stock in new condition. Amazon has &;quot;Renewed Premium&;quot; Meta Quest 2 headsets available with decent discounts‚ so you can still save some money. These Quest 2 models are guaranteed to look and perform like new‚ or you have 90 days to get your money back‚ no questions asked. You can see the current Renewed Premium deals down below.
