EXCLUSIVE: DeSantis Applauds March for Life in Video Message Ahead of Demonstration: ‘This Is A Noble Cause’

FIRST IN THE DAILY SIGNAL: Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis thanked the leaders of the March for Life for their ongoing fight against abortion in a message sent ahead of the 51st March for Life on Thursday. “Today is the 51st March for Life‚” the presidential candidate said in a short video message shared with The Daily Signal. “I want to thank you for standing for the sanctity of life. I’m proud in the state of Florida to have signed legislation protecting babies with a detectable heartbeat. The heartbeat bill was something we worked very hard to achieve‚ and it is a landmark victory for the sanctity of life.” “We know that there’s a lot of battles ahead‚ we know that there’s a lot of naysayers out there‚ even within the Republican party‚ but standing for the sanctity of life is the right thing to do‚ and this is a noble cause‚” he emphasized. “Thank you for what you are doing‚ and God bless you.” WATCH: NEW: message from @RonDeSantis to the pro-life Americans joining the March for Life tomorrow: “We know that there’s a lot of battles ahead‚ we know that there’s a lot of naysayers out there‚ even within the Republican party‚ but standing for the sanctity of life is the right… pic.twitter.com/79vYbHa06L— Mary Margaret Olohan (@MaryMargOlohan) January 19‚ 2024 DeSantis signed a bill protecting babies with a detectable heartbeat‚ the Heartbeat Protection Act‚ in April 2023. He also signed a bill protecting babies after 15 weeks in 2022‚ effectively banning late-term abortions in the state of Florida. The 51st annual March for Life will take place on Friday in Washington‚ D.C. House Speaker Mike Johnson‚ R-La.‚ will be speaking at the march‚ in addition to a number of prominent pro-life voices including former NFL tight end Benjamin Watson. This year’s march has as its theme “with every woman‚ for every child‚” stressing the importance of supporting both mother and child post the overturning of Roe v. Wade. The Daily Signal also reached out to 2024 presidential candidate Nikki Haley about the pro-life demonstration. In a statement‚ Haley‚ formerly the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations and governor of South Carolina‚ expressed gratitude to those who will march on Friday. “To all those who are marching for life today‚ thank you‚” she said. “Thank you for fighting for those who can’t fight for themselves and thank you for reminding the world that every life is special in the eyes of God.”  Former President Donald Trump spoke at the March for Life in January 2020‚ the first president to ever address the pro-life demonstration in person. “Together‚ we are the voice for the voiceless‚” the former president told the crowds as they chanted‚ “Four more years! Four more years!” “You stand for life each and every day‚” he continued. “You provide housing‚ education‚ jobs‚ and medical care to the women that you serve.  You find loving families for children in need of a forever home.  You host baby showers for expecting moms.  You just make it your life’s mission to help spread God’s grace.” “We cannot know what our citizens yet unborn will achieve‚ the dreams they will imagine‚ the masterpieces they will create‚ the discoveries they will make‚” Trump added. “But we know this: Every life brings love into this world.  Every child brings joy to a family.  Every person is worth protecting.  And above all‚ we know that every human soul is divine‚ and every human life—born and unborn— is made in the holy image of Almighty God.” On Thursday‚ President Joe Biden was questioned by a reporter about the March for Life. “The March for Life is tomorrow in Washington‚ D.C.‚” asked the reporter. “What’s your message to those attending?” “March‚” Biden responded. The White House did not return further requests for comment on the topic. Have an opinion about this article? Is Biden Admin Reviving Effort to Label Concerned Parents as ‘Domestic Terrorists’?

President Joe Biden’s White House notoriously helped craft the National School Boards Association’s letter comparing concerned parents to domestic terrorists back in October 2021. That letter‚ later retracted‚ led to an FBI memo‚ also later retracted. But last year‚ the Southern Poverty Law Center carried on this theme by adding parental rights groups to its “hate map‚” which puts conservative groups alongside the Ku Klux Klan. SPLC leaders and staff met with White House officials at least 11 times since January 2021‚ when Biden took office‚ and Biden nominated an SPLC attorney to a federal appeals court. The SPLC’s ties with the Biden administration raise troubling questions about whether the administration plans to target concerned parents again. Yet new evidence suggests that the SPLC may have been involved in the original effort to target concerned parents‚ and may play a role in the Biden administration’s “domestic terrorism” efforts. In fall 2021‚ around the time of the school board association’s letter‚ SPLC President Margaret Huang bragged in a donor meeting that many agencies in the Biden administration had approached the center to craft a domestic terrorism strategy. “I think there’s no question that we are unparalleled in our abilities to track and monitor the hate and extremist groups in the country‚ and I can tell you that we’ve had many agencies in the new Biden administration reaching out to solicit our expertise and our knowledge and information to help shape the policies that the new administration is adopting to counter the domestic terrorism threat‚” Ms. Huang said in a fundraising event video‚ first published by The Daily Signal. As I wrote in my book “Making Hate Pay: The Corruption of the Southern Poverty Law Center‚” critics have long noted that the center’s “hate” accusations exaggerate fears of terrorist threats‚ scaring donors to pony up cash. The SPLC has put parental rights groups such as Moms for Liberty‚ Parents Defending Education‚ and Courage Is a Habit on its hate map with the KKK. A former employee described such accusations as a “highly profitable scam.” The Southern Poverty Law Center’s attacks on parental rights groups are particularly revealing. The SPLC’s education arm‚ formerly known as Teaching Tolerance‚ has long advocated many of the ideas that the parental rights groups oppose. The program‚ now known as Learning for Justice‚ advocates ideas such as critical race theory‚ which teaches that American society is systematically racist in a way that oppresses blacks and privileges whites. The parental rights movement grew in the wake of COVID-19 lockdowns‚ when students “attended class” over Zoom and parents got a glimpse of the radical ideas their children were learning. Parents raised concerns about teaching black students that they were oppressed and white students that they were oppressors‚ based merely on the color of their skin. Although the SPLC did not publicly move against these groups until 2023‚ it likely viewed them as an enemy from the beginning. Concerned parents have also demanded that schools remove books from school libraries on the grounds they contain pornographic images. The SPLC has condemned these efforts as “book bans‚” as has Biden. Before the SPLC put these groups on the hate map‚ one of its researchers compared the parental rights movement to the “uptown Klans” of the 1950s‚ when whites in the South tried to maintain segregation after the Supreme Court’s landmark 1954 ruling in Brown v. Board of Education. The SPLC maintains that these groups represent an “anti-student inclusion movement” driven by animus rather than a movement concerned about the radical ideas their children are learning. It is ironic that the Biden administration would coordinate with the Southern Poverty Law Center to oppose domestic terrorism. The SPLC’s hate map inspired an act of terror against the Family Research Council in Washington‚ and an SPLC lawyer faces domestic terrorism charges for his alleged role in a riot near Atlanta last March that featured Molotov cocktails. If the Biden administration considers the SPLC a reliable source on “domestic terrorism‚” that suggests that the administration may revive its efforts to crack down on concerned parents. Biden may have aborted the first effort‚ but Americans should remain alert. Haines: It's ‘Important’ to Make White Kids ‘Feel Bad’ in History Class

Monday was Martin Luther King Jr. Day and the liberal ladies of ABC’s The View celebrated by making a mockery of Dr. King’s legacy. In addition to spreading the usual lies about Republicans trying to erase black people from history‚ white co-host Sara Haines proclaimed that it was “important” for white kids like her own to be made to “feel bad” in history class‚ particularly about slavery. She demanded this while no one living today was involved in the slavery of the past. Setting the stage for Haines’s insane demand‚ staunchly racist and anti-Semitic co-host Sunny Hostin spewed her usual anti-American falsehood about how the country was founded on slavery. “What happens is when you've had privilege for so long‚ equality feels a lot like oppression‚” she chided her critics. Hostin herself had a very warped perspective on what oppression actually was. Despite being a multimillionaire who brags about not needing to shop for groceries in years‚ Hostin insists she’s “oppressed” and demands her reparations. Faux conservative Ana Navarro went off about how Republicans had “weaponized” black history and books “for political purposes to drive people to the polls based on outrage” and the perception that “my poor little white kid is feeling bad because he's learning about slavery.” “Learning about history should not make anybody feel bad‚” Navarro added. “Oh‚ it should make you feel bad!” Haines interrupted. Haines insisted it was “important that it makes you feel bad.”     Navarro actually provided pushback‚ telling Haines: “I don't think it should make you feel bad. I don't think a white child that's had nothing to do with slavery should feel bad about slavery. I think we need to learn so we don't repeat the same mistakes of history.” Unfortunately‚ that tone didn’t last for long as Navarro quickly pivoted to bashing Republican candidates for president. “And you've got in the Republican primary right now‚ you've got Ron DeSantis who wants to argue there's a positive side to slavery. You've got Nikki Haley who can't even bring herself to utter the word ‘slavery as the cause of the Civil War‚” she decried. “But she has black friends‚” Hostin sniped at Haley. It was another example of the ABC host making a racially charged remark targeting Haley. Two years ago‚ Hostin suggested “Nikki” was a fake name Haley took on to appear white‚ since she’s of Indian heritage‚ even calling her a racial “chameleon.” Ironically‚ Haines was the one to call her out. “Sunny! You go by a different name!” she said with a laugh. But Hostin wasn’t laughing. “Because most Americans can't pronounce Asunción because of the undereducation in our country‚” she sneered. For her part‚ moderator Whoopi Goldberg ridiculously claimed that soon‚ schools would no longer be able to acknowledge the existence of people. "There were some people...but we're not going to tell you who they were‚" she claimed‚ without evidence.   Whoopi claims American history classes won't mention black people at all and they'll just say "There were some people...but we're not going to tell you who they were." Sunny then claims black people were the only group that "built this country." pic.twitter.com/dtN36oO9YZ — Nicholas Fondacaro (@NickFondacaro) January 15‚ 2024   The transcript is below. Click "expand" to read: ABC’s The View January 15‚ 2024 11:04:16 a.m. Eastern (…) SUNNY HOSTIN: …because what is supposed to be the very foundation of this country is that we are all equal‚ but what happens is when you've had privilege for so long‚ equality feels a lot like oppression. ANA NAVARRO: You know‚ but I – [Applause] I think there's more to it than that. I think what it is‚ is black history and other things‚ banning books‚ has been weaponized for political purposes to drive people to the polls based on outrage because my poor little white kid is feeling bad because he's learning about slavery. That's ridiculous. Learning about history should not make anybody feel bad. We learn about history -- SARA HAINES [Interrupting]: Oh‚ it should make you feel bad! NAVARRO: No. Well – HAINES: But it's important that it makes you feel bad. NAVARRO: I don't think it should make you feel bad. I don't think a white child that's had nothing to do with slavery should feel bad about slavery. I think we need to learn so we don't repeat the same mistakes of history. [Applause] Today‚ is MLK Day and what's happening around this country with history‚ with banning books is absolutely insane. And you've got in the Republican primary right now‚ you've got Ron DeSantis who wants to argue there's a positive side to slavery. You've got Nikki Haley who can't even bring herself to utter the word “slavery” as the cause of the Civil War. HOSTIN: But she has black friends. NAVARRO: And you have Donald Trump who wants to give Abraham Lincoln advice on how to negotiate slavery. So‚ let me just be crystal clear: there was no positive side to slavery‚ slavery was the cause of the Civil War‚ and you don't negotiate or compromise when it comes to slavery. HAINES: Yeah‚ absolutely. (…)

Bombshell report finds Chinese lab mapped COVID-19 virus weeks before China notified the world

Chinese researchers reportedly identified and mapped the COVID-19 virus weeks before China notified the world‚ according to a new bombshell report. The alarming findings raise serious concerns about China's transparency regarding the initial coronavirus outbreak. According to documents obtained by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services‚ a Chinese researcher uploaded a nearly complete sequence of the COVID-19 virus structure to a U.S. database run by the National Institute of Health on Dec. 28‚ 2019 – two weeks before China officially notified the world about the deadly virus to the world. The Chinese researcher has been named as Dr. Lili Ren – a virologist at the Institute of Pathogen Biology of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences in Beijing. The House Energy and Commerce Committee noted that the Institute of Pathogen Biology of Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences has ties to the Chinese Communist Party and People's Liberation Army. The Republican lawmakers also noted that Ren is a "current subgrantee of non-profit EcoHealth Alliance on the same National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease (NIAID) grant as the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV)‚ which has been debarred from receiving NIH grants for ten years for failing to provide laboratory records requested by NIH and for conducting research that 'did lead or could lead to health issues or other unacceptable outcomes.'"Ren reportedly tried to publish the genetic sequence of the SARS-CoV-2 virus to GenBank – a comprehensive database of genetic sequences that is publicly available and operated by the U.S. National Institutes of Health. However‚ GenBank reportedly notified Ren via email three days later that her submission was incomplete and that she needed to provide additional annotations. After Ren did not provide the annotations‚ GenBank deleted Ren's genetic sequencing from its processing queue on Jan. 16‚ 2020‚ according to the Washington Post. Interestingly enough‚ a different team of Chinese researchers submitted a "nearly identical" genetic sequence of SARS-CoV-2 to GenBank that was published on Jan. 12‚ 2020‚ according to a letter sent to the House Energy and Commerce Committee leaders from Melanie Anne Egorin – a senior official at the HHS.China didn't officially notify the World Health Organization about the COVID-19 sequence until Jan. 12‚ 2020. Before the virus was identified as a novel coronavirus‚ Beijing had maintained the outbreak was a cluster of cases of pneumonia "of unknown cause" in Wuhan‚ Hubei Province. Chinese officials linked the outbreak to the Huanan Seafood Wholesale Market in Wuhan. "The existence of a SARS-CoV-2 sequence days before the CCP acknowledged an outbreak‚ and more than two weeks before the China CDC release their sequence‚ calls into question how early the CCP knew about the virus and how long they withheld this information from the world‚ resulting in more deaths and wasting critical time to develop vaccines and treatments‚" said Republicans on the House Energy and Commerce Committee.Republicans said the Biden administration‚ the NIH‚ and HHS have "obstructed and delayed Congressional investigations into the origins of SARS-CoV-2" and "refused to produce this sequence for over seven months."The sequence was only released to the House Energy and Commerce Committee after it had threatened subpoenas.Committee Chair Reps. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-Wash.)‚ Brett Guthrie (R-Ky.)‚ and Morgan Griffith (R-Va.) said‚ "This significant discovery further underscores why we cannot trust any of the so-called ‘facts’ or data provided by the CCP and calls into serious question the legitimacy of any scientific theories based on such information.""The American people deserve to know the truth about the origins of SARS-CoV-2‚ and our investigation has uncovered numerous causes for concern‚ including how taxpayers’ dollars are spent‚ how our government’s public health agencies operate‚ and the need for more oversight into research grants to foreign scientists‚" the Republican representatives stated on Wednesday. "In addition to equipping us to better prepare for the next pandemic‚ this investigation’s findings will help us as policymakers as we work to strengthen America’s biosafety practices and bolster oversight of research grants."The Wall Street Journal reported‚ "Having the virus information two weeks earlier 'would have helped in the early stages of the outbreak‚' particularly with putting a more effective testing regimen in place‚ said Richard Ebright‚ a microbiologist at Rutgers University."Jesse Bloom – a virologist at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center in Seattle – told the Washington Post‚ "That two weeks would have made a tangible difference in quite a few people’s lives."There have been an estimated 7 million COVID-19 deaths. The Chinese Embassy told the WSJ‚ "China has kept refining our COVID response based on science to make it more targeted. China’s COVID response policies are science-based‚ effective‚ and consistent with China’s national realities. They can stand the test of history."Ren did not respond to a request for comment from the Wall Street Journal. Like Blaze News? Former Rep. Justin Amash considers US Senate bid

Former Rep. Justin Amash of Michigan‚ who voted to impeach then-President Donald Trump in 2019‚ announced that he is thinking about jumping into the 2024 Michigan U.S. Senate GOP primary."Today I'm launching the Justin Amash for Senate Exploratory Committee as I consider entering the race‚" Amash tweeted. "We need a principled‚ consistent constitutional conservative in the Senate—someone with a record of taking on the bipartisan oligarchy‚ defending sound money and free speech‚ fighting the surveillance state and military-industrial complex‚ and protecting all our rights. The stakes are high: freedom‚ social cooperation‚ and human progress itself." — (@) Democratic Sen. Debbie Stabenow of Michigan announced last year that she will depart the Senate when her term ends in early 2025.If Amash throws his hat into the ring‚ he will join a Republican primary field that already includes figures such as former Rep. Peter Meijer‚ former Rep. Mike Rogers‚ and former Detroit Police Chief James Craig. Amash served as a House lawmaker from early 2011 until early 2021. While he served as a Republican throughout most of his tenure‚ he dumped the GOP in 2019 and became an independent‚ and then switched to be a libertarian in 2020.In 2020‚ he announced an exploratory committee to pursue the Libertarian Party's presidential nomination‚ but less than a month later‚ said he would not run. "I've concluded that circumstances don't lend themselves to my success as a candidate for president this year‚ and therefore I will not be a candidate‚" he tweeted.Amash‚ who currently describes himself on X as a libertarian‚ has advocated for ending the Federal Reserve. "Not just no central bank digital currency. No central bank. End the Fed‚" he tweeted.Like Blaze News? Bypass the censors‚ sign up for our newsletters‚ and get stories like this direct to your inbox. Former teacher who mocked conservatives online over grooming accusations has been sentenced to 17 years prison for child porn

A man who worked as a teacher in Hawaii was sentenced to 17 years in prison for producing child pornography after he mocked and railed against conservatives online accusing the left of harboring pedophiles. 35-year-old Alden Bunag was convicted of distributing videos of himself having sex with a former student who was 13 years old at the time. In addition to the prison time‚ Bunag must pay $30‚000 in restitution and serve 15 years of supervised release. Prior to the arrest‚ Bunag spewed hatred against conservatives and specifically accused them of secretly being pedophiles while tossing accusations against their political opponents. "You're f***ing acting like we want to show kids porn or something‚ but something I've learned through the years is that whenever right-wingers accuse others of something‚ it's DEFINITELY because they're projecting‚" he wrote in a tweet. In another missive‚ he proclaimed that he was helping destroy Western civilization by "trying to tear down gender roles and subtly instill socialist values into my high schoolers and elementary kids." He also defended the use of books extolling the LGBTQ agenda in public schools against critics who said they were inappropriately sexual. That account has since been suspended. Federal prosecutors said that Bunag sent more than 3‚300 messages to a teacher in Philadelphia‚ Pennsylvania‚ many of which contained photographs and videos of child pornography. That teacher was arrested in October. He worked as a summer school teacher at Pearl City High School and also at other schools in Hawaii. He identified himself as a socialist on social media. “Bunag’s sentence reflects the horrendous nature of the crimes he committed‚ including against a child for whom the classroom became a place of torture rather than learning and nurturing‚” read a statement from U.S. attorney Clare E. Connors.Bunag is also facing charges for sex with a minor‚ and a plea deal is expected in that case as well. Here's more about the conviction: Like Blaze News?
