The South Carolina House of Representatives passed a bill on Wednesday that would prohibit public universities from making hiring or promotion decisions based on diversity‚ equity‚ and inclusion principles or political ideology. The bill‚ which passed 84-30 with opposition from Democrats and support from Republicans‚ also protects the free speech of both students and staff at public universities and requires universities to report on how much money they spend on DEI initiatives. Conservative members of the South Carolina legislature have previously pushed to strip all DEI-related funding from public universities.  “In a decisive move‚ SC House Republicans have passed H.4289‚ signaling a clear stance against DEI ideology influencing college admissions and employment decisions‚” the South Carolina House Republican Caucus said in a statement. “This landmark legislation ensures no diversity pledges can dictate admissions or job outcomes‚ halts mandatory diversity training‚ and upholds the unassailable right to free speech. Adam Morgan said that taxpayer money should not be used to push a politicized worldview on students.  “We’re asking a question of what our tax dollars should be spent on‚ because what we spend our money on reflects our values‚” he said. South Carolina House Democrats claimed the bill is part of a push toward a “far right effort to make our college campuses less diverse‚ less equitable‚ and less inclusive.” The measure now heads to the Senate for consideration where Republicans hold 30 seats and Democrats have 15.  Other states‚ like Florida and Alabama‚ have passed more wide-ranging measures cracking down on DEI. Last week‚ Republican Alabama Governor Kay Ivey signed a law that bans state funding of DEI programs at state agencies and public universities.

The Islamic Republic of Iran covered up a covert Israeli operation in July 2020 that resulted in the destruction of an Iranian nuclear facility that was kept secret from international atomic regulators. The revelation about the operation was made this week after a hacker group obtained millions of documents from Iran’s judiciary and the Ministry of Intelligence. Iran International discovered the incident after sifting through the documents and stumbling upon nine defendants who were charged with “confrontation with the Islamic government‚” “sabotage‚” “destruction of one of the Atomic Energy Organization’s devices‚” “acts against national security through cooperation with Israel‚” and possession of firearms and drugs. An anonymous person claiming to be a disgruntled creditor contacted three brothers and asked them to hire a team of criminals to set the secret atomic workshop on fire. The brothers‚ who hired six additional cohorts‚ were paid 2.7 billion rials ($10‚000 at the time) and told they would be paid more if they destroyed the facility by setting it on fire and filming it. The nine defendants stormed the facility in an old neighborhood in southwestern Tehran with weapons‚ tied up the guard‚ and destroyed at least some of the equipment inside‚ the report said. The attack “became one of the most significant national security issues in Iran‚ with reports reaching Ali Khamenei‚ the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic‚” the report said. All nine defendants were arrested within a month and were accused of acting on behalf of Israel’s Institute for Intelligence and Special Operations‚ commonly known as Mossad. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) says that they were never alerted by Iran to the existence of the facility‚ a clear violation of international law. Iran routinely executes those who are accused of spying or acting on behalf of Israel or the United States. A former member of Iran’s Parliament‚ who has extensive knowledge of Iran’s nuclear activities‚ told Iran International: “I am almost familiar with all the nuclear activities of the Islamic Republic and have often seen these centers up close‚ but I have never heard of such facilities in the Shadabad area. Considering that the Ministry of Intelligence and the judiciary believe this incident was the work of Israel‚ we are definitely talking about an important workshop.”

A 22-year-old man has been charged in connection to a brutal stabbing attack after four people were killed and seven others were wounded in Rockford‚ Illinois‚ Wednesday afternoon. Police said that the man‚ who will not be named per Daily Wire policy‚ has been charged with four counts of first-degree murder‚ five counts of attempted first-degree murder‚ and two counts of home invasion with a dangerous weapon‚ CBS News reported. The man allegedly stabbed some of his victims and beat others with a baseball bat. Those who were killed ranged in age from 15 to 63. Winnebago County State’s Attorney J. Hanley alleged that the suspect began his rampage‚ which lasted for 20 minutes‚ by fatally stabbing his childhood friend and his friend’s mother before stabbing a USPS mail carrier and running him over with his pickup truck. The man allegedly killed a 15-year-old girl and seriously wounded another young woman by stabbing her in the face and hands before police arrested him. A good Samaritan also jumped in to protect the woman from the suspect and sustained stab wounds‚ but was “fine‚” according to Winnebago County Sheriff Gary Caruana. Rockford Mayor Tom McNamara said the teenage girl “died saving her sister and friend‚ protecting them from further harm.” “We don’t have a clear motive in regard to what caused this individual to commit such heinous crimes‚” Rockford Police Chief Carla Redd said on Wednesday‚ according to CNN. Henley said that the man told detectives in an interview that he had smoked marijuana that was laced with an unknown drug‚ which made him go on the killing rampage. A woman who identified herself as the suspect’s mother told NBC News that she is stunned by the violence allegedly committed by her son. “He’s a loving person and he has never hurt anybody before‚” the woman said. “We don’t know what happened. He’s not an aggressive person. This is all shocking to us. … We never felt threatened with him.” Police said that no other attackers were involved in the rampage. The suspect is being held in Winnebago County jail and was scheduled to appear in court on Thursday afternoon.
