Chuck Berry – “Run Rudolph Run“ Recorded in 1958 Chuck Berry released this iconic song. Though it has been covered by numerous performers this is the definitive version.  Beach Boys – “Little Saint Nick” The track‚ based on “Little Deuce Coupe” with different lyrics‚ actually had a longer life span than the original. John Lennon &; Yoko Ono – “Happy Xmas (War Is Over)” In 1971‚ John and Yoko recorded “Happy Xmas (War Is Over)” with the Harlem Community Choir‚ which was both a holiday and protest song against the Vietnam War. Elton John – “Step Into Christmas” Written by Elton and Bernie Taupin‚ it was released as a stand-alone single in November‚ ’73. Ramones – “Merry Christmas (I Don’t Want to Fight Tonight)” It was the Ramones last song on their ‘89 album‚ “Brain Drain.” It was covered by Cheap Trick in 2017. The Darkness – “Christmas Time (Don’t Let The Bells End)” Released in ’03‚ the song was eventually included in the “Christmas Edition” of the band’s debut album‚ “Permission To Land.” The Eagles – “Please Come Home For Christmas“ Charlie Brown wrote and released the song in ’60. The Eagles covered the tune 18 years later (with “Funky New Year” on the B-side). Tom Petty &; The Heartbreakers – “Christmas All Over Again” The band penned this song for “A Very Special Christmas” TV special in ‘00. U2  – “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)” Originally released in ’63 by Darlene Love‚ who called it “the greatest Christmas song of all time‚ U2’s version was recorded during a sound check in Glasgow‚ during the band’s ‘87 “Joshua Tree” Tour.  Bruce Springsteen – “Santa Claus Is Coming To Town” Recorded during a Long Island gig in December 1975‚ it was released as the B-Side to “My Hometown” in ‘85 and it soon became a holiday classic. Band Aid – “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” The one-time-only supergroup to aid famine relief in Ethiopia was comprised of U2’s Bono (pictured)‚ Phil Collins‚ Boy George and Sting‚ among others. The song became a massive hit leading to Live Aid the following year (‘85). Mariah Carey – “All I Want For Christmas Is You” Written by Carey‚ the track has become one of her signature numbers and has strongly tied her to the holiday season.  New Holiday Tunes: Bon Jovi – “Christmas Isn’t Christmas“  “(It) is a song that I wrote about family‚” explained frontman Jon Bon Jovi. “The sentiment that Christmas really isn’t Christmas without YOU which can bring up a lot of memories for people.” Buckcherry – “Tell ‘Em It’s Christmas.”  “Like everything Buckcherry‚ we hope it puts a smile on your face. The following is a list of the #1 songs on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Airplay chart with the date the song topped the chart. December 17th (2022): Lux Æterna  Metallica The song went to the top in mid-December and stayed there until early March. March 4th:    Welcome To The Circus             Five Finger Death Punch The opening track from the “AfterLife” album became the band’s 14th #1 on the chart.  March 11th:  Just Pretend   Bad Omens The Alt. Metal track was from the band’s third studio album “The Death Of Peace Of Mind.” March 18th:  Lost                                                   Linkin Park  The previously unreleased “Meteora” era track was a showcase for the late Chester Bennington’s riveting vocals. May 13th: Cut The Line                                       Papa Roach The track was one of five singles released from the band’s eleventh studio album‚ “Ego Trip.” May 20th:  Rescued                                             Foo Fighters (frontman Dave Grohl pictured above) The lead track from “But Here We Are‚” the Foo Fighters eleventh studio album‚ was the first single by the band since the death of longtime drummer Taylor Hawkins.  July 1st:  72 Seasons                                         Metallica The title track from the band’s eleventh studio album had an eleven-week run (the longest this decade) at the top. July 15th:  Need A Favor                                      Jelly Roll The Country-Rock power ballad‚ from the from the “Whitsitt Chapel” album also scored on both Country and Billboard 200 (#17) charts. August 5th: Lowest In Me Staind It’s the fifth Staind single to reach #1 on the chart‚ along with “Not Again‚” “So Far Away‚” “Right Here” and “It’s Been Awhile.” However‚ it was their first song to top the survey since “Not Again” in 2011. August 19th: Unstoppable Disturbed The band’s twelfth #1 on the chart is from their eighth album “Divisive.” They are now in a four-way tie for the fifth-most chart toppers in the chart’s 42-year history‚ alongside Foo Fighters‚ Godsmack and Metallica. October 7th: Psycho Asking Alexandria The band’s second #1 on the chart follows the one-week reign of “Alone Again” in ‘21. November 4th: Too Far Gone? Metallica This is the third #1 single from “72 Seasons‚” the second studio album released through the band’s Blackened Recordings. November 11th: Skeletons Pop Evil The song is the band’s eighth #1 on the chart. It’s also the title track and third single from Pop Evil’s seventh studio album. November 18th: Might Love Myself Beartooth Beartooth’s eleventh entry on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Airplay chart‚ is their first #1. The song is on the band’s fifth album‚ “The Surface.” November 25th: The American Dream Is Killing Me Green Day It’s the lead single from Green Day’s fourteenth album‚ “Saviors” and is the band’s first #1 since “Oh Yeah!” in ’20.
