I can't stand watching the evening broadcast news. For quite awhile I refused to the point of leaving the room when my better half was watching it. However, it is a good idea to know what the latest propaganda is, if you don't mind yelling and swearing at the TV.

I read an English translation of the Quran during desert storm and became aware of the issue with slavery in Islam. I had the opportunity to ask an African American Muslim cleric about that and he told me it was a form of charity for poor people. I'm sure the apologists have all the answers, but I have to assume that the African American Muslim movement is basically a political movement. It's hard for me to believe that anyone could believe that answer, esp. a black person.
