Hamas gunmen attacked and killed three Israelis at a bus stop in Jerusalem on Thursday just after Israel agreed to an extended temporary truce in Gaza‚ the BBC reported. Israel and Hamas negotiated to extend a cease-fire one more day‚ to a seventh day‚ in order to allow the release of more hostages taken by the terrorist organization during the Oct. 7 massacre of 1‚200 civilians in southern Israel‚ according to the BBC. Just hours later‚ Hamas operatives began shooting at a bus stop in Jerusalem‚ killing three and wounding or injuring 16 before off-duty Israeli soldiers and a civilian took them down‚ according to reports. Recently published projections for the U.S. population from the Census Bureau present a picture that should concern every American. It’s a snapshot of a dying society. It’s surprising and shocking that it’s not getting more attention. The Census Bureau projects that the U.S. population will stop growing toward the end of the century. After peaking at 370 million in 2080‚ it will drop to 366 million in 2100‚ less than 10% higher than where it stood in 2022. By 2029‚ the percentage of Americans over the age of 65 will exceed the percentage under 18‚ and by 2038‚ the number of deaths in the nation will exceed the number of births. Thinking about this in the most basic terms‚ at any point in time a given percentage of the population is working and net producing and a given percentage is not working and net consuming. As a population ages‚ the percentage working and producing shrinks and the percentage consuming grows. Our health care expenditures‚ for instance‚ consume almost 20% of our gross domestic product. In 2019‚ 30% of our population was age 55 and above but consumed 56% of our health care expenditures. As the population ages‚ an increasing percentage of GDP will be required for health care. There’s discussion now about the viability of Social Security. At the core of this discussion is the economics of the system‚ in which the funds retirees receive come from the payroll taxes that those working pay. A diminishing number of those working per each retiree strains the financial viability of the system. Per the most recent report of the Social Security Trustees: In 1950‚ there were 16.5 working and paying for every retiree. By 1960‚ this was down to 5.1. Now it’s 2.7. The trustees project that by 2040‚ it will be down to 2.3; and by 2065‚ 2.1. So‚ we see the claim is false that‚ from a political perspective‚ there is a so-called social agenda (marriage‚ family‚ children‚ abortion) and an economic agenda (spending and taxes) and that these have nothing to do with each other. Abortion‚ the collapse of marriage and family‚ and dropping fertility rates have everything to do with the overall health of our society. As we look at this data from the Census Bureau projecting an aging country and a shrinking population‚ we need to look at the changing values prevailing in our culture as the number one culprit driving our problems. Earlier this year‚ The Wall Street Journal released polling done jointly with the National Opinion Research Center at the University of Chicago under the headline “America Pulls Back From Values That Once Defined It.” Regarding religion‚ 39% said that it’s “very important to them‚” compared to 62% who said in 1998 that religion is “very important.” Regarding having children‚ 30% said it’s “very important” compared to 60% who said it was “very important” in 1998. Among those under the age of 30‚ only 23% said having children is “very important.” Behavior reflects prevailing values. Americans are bringing fewer children into the world. The current U.S. fertility rate is 1.67 children per woman‚ well below the 2.1 needed to maintain the current population size. What has driven the collapse of our culture? One major culprit is misguided court decisions that pulled prayer and religion out of our public schools. Recently‚ Harvard economist Roland Fryer wrote in The Wall Street Journal about the need for “real school choice.” He appeals for economist Milton Friedman’s original vision for “parents to have the autonomy to select the optimal educational environment for their children‚ unbounded by geography or income brackets‚ and to take their full allotment of education funds with them.” Giving parents control of their children’s education would be a major step in combatting the widespread collapse in values that has so badly damaged our nation. Gigi Hadid‚ an American fashion model of Palestinian descent‚ has apologized for sparking outrage last week for making numerous false claims against Israel amid its war with Hamas‚ claiming Israel abducts‚ rapes and tortures children.   “Israel is the only country in the world that keeps children as prisoners of war. Abduction‚ rape‚ humiliation‚ torture‚ murder of Palestinians years and years and years before Oct. 7‚ 2023‚” Hadid claimed in a since-deleted Instagram story to her 79 million followers.   The post included a picture of Ahmad Manasra‚ a Palestinian who stabbed two Israelis with his cousin in 2015 when he was 13 years old and was sentenced to 12 years in prison‚ falsely portraying Manasra as a “child prisoner of war.”    But on Tuesday‚ Hadid posted on Instagram apologizing for this mistake. “I used the wrong example to make that point‚ and I regret that‚” she wrote.  Hadid‚ 28‚ faced backlash across the internet‚ with many claiming her post was spreading false information and was antisemitic.   “Gigi Hadid isn’t shy about spreading lies to the world! … And she writes this while Hamas still holds … children that they kidnapped‚ including a baby only 10 months [old]!! Hamas has released about 100 hostages as of this writing.   Hadid’s father‚ Mohamed Hadid‚ was born into a Palestinian Muslim family in Nazareth‚ Israel. However‚ Gigi Hadid was born in Los Angeles. Her sister‚ Bella Hadid‚ also a fashion model‚ likewise supports the Palestinians. The state of Israel has previously responded to Hadid’s allegations against the country by writing in an infographic‚ “There is nothing valiant about Hamas’ massacre of Israelis. Condemning Hamas for what it is (ISIS) is not anti-Palestine‚ and supporting Israelis in their right against barbaric terrorists is the right thing to do.”   Hadid also reposted an Instagram Reel about Israel supposedly harvesting Palestinians’ organs on Sunday. The video was originally published by a user named Umme Murtaza‚ on which Murtaza said‚ “Watch this disturbing video‚ where health officials admitted that Israeli authorities had harvested the organs of dead Palestinians for years without their consent.” Hadid did not apologize for sharing that Reel. “Gigi Hadid is the only major supermodel that keeps spreading blood libels about Jews harvesting organs‚” Tamar Schwarzbard‚ the head of digital operations at the Israel Ministry of Foreign Affairs‚ wrote on X.    Have an opinion about this article? A whistleblower has come out with information pertaining to a group known as the Cyber Threat Intelligence League (CTIL)‚ made up of a number of government officials‚ including at least a dozen from the FBI and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA). The whistleblower allowed Michael Shellenberger‚ Alex Gutentag‚ and Matt Taibbi access to documents corroborating his claims‚ and the three presented it to the public in a detailed report. The significance of CTIL is that some observers believe it turned out to be the “censorship ground zero” that grew to unprecedented size on both sides of the Atlantic‚ spawning an entire industry “dealing” with suppressing free speech on anything from Brexit to Covid‚ and the 2020 election. According to the whistleblower‚ CTIL was essentially prompted into existence with Donald Trump’s 2016 election as president and involved representatives of both US and UK authorities‚ and private military contractors. The same source claims that co-leader of CTIL is former UK defense researcher‚ contractor Sara-Jayne Terp‚ and that the group’s goal was to be preventing “a repeat of 2016” under the guise of fighting disinformation. Meanwhile the overall ambition was to incorporate CTIL into the federal government‚ thus formalizing and cementing its role. This is why some see this particular set of documented evidence of the early days of the now notorious online censorship era‚ principally in the US‚ but also in Europe‚ as even more important than the Twitter or Facebook files. If CTIL was the original disease‚ then those files can be seen as the symptoms. One of the key and most scandalous points is at the same time not surprising at all to anyone who’s been keeping a close eye on how that censorship is being carried out: although the government – military and intelligence agencies were “the co-founders” of CTIL‚ they quickly realized private entities would have be brought it. As one document reads‚ spies and soldiers can act against foreigners abroad unchecked – but when it comes to suppressing the rights of Americans‚ “the government doesn’t have the legal authority.” Meaning‚ for example‚ to directly trample on the First Amendment – so the tech and legacy media industry got involved. CTIL‚ billing itself as “an anti-disinformation” group‚ started out as an outfit gathering defense and intelligence veterans as well as data scientists on a voluntary basis‚ but the way it operated was quickly noted as something positive to include in the work of government agencies‚ notably the DHS. The large amount of leaked documents and training videos‚ the report’s authors say‚ serves to fill in some of the blanks from the Twitter and Facebook files‚ and provide a big and clearer than ever before picture of what has been happening behind the scenes during the past 7 years of the “dark censorship ages” on both sides of the Atlantic. Picking some (documented) points from the data trove provided by the whistleblower‚ Taibbi wrote a series of posts on X‚ detailing CTIL’s techniques‚ that wound up being held in such high regard by the authorities they felt they needed to incorporate them in official (if secretive) policies. Taibbi says that one recurring theme that those involved in CTIL are either heard saying or had written down‚ is the admission that they are “using many of the same techniques as the bad guys.” But citizens in democratic countries should apparently not at all be worried about this scandalous turn of events – because the CTIL people seemed assured that their bad actions were motivated by good reasons. Some of these “same things” included infiltrating “disinformation spaces” to then flood them what is referred to in the documents as “obviously fake content.” Further‚ in the effort to “dilute” core messages found there (considered by CTIL to be misinformation)‚ the group was creating honeypots with “coordinated inauthetics‚” infiltrating‚ or making false claims of infiltration of groups to discredit leaders. Next‚ CTIL was “creating fake websites to issue counter narrative‚ and counter narrative through phsycial merchandise‚” as well as use bots‚ and flag legitimate speech and memes. But if any of what the group was trying to counter was in fact illegal‚ wouldn’t there be an easier way to deal with it than go to all this trouble? At one point‚ CTIL big-wig Pablo Breuer lamented: “(It’s) expressly forbidden (for the US Defense Department) to operate against US citizens.” Read the full report here. Simon Harris‚ Ireland’s Education Minister‚ has raised alarms about what he suggests is the rampant spread of “disinformation” on social media‚ describing it as a significant threat to democracy. His concerns mirror those of Tánaiste Micheál Martin‚ particularly in light of the recent Dublin riots‚ where social media has been blamed for spreading “hate‚” a notion that the government in Ireland is using as an excuse to call for more censorship online.
