The Iranian-backed terrorist group Hezbollah reportedly caused “heavy damage” to an Israeli military base on Monday after it launched a rocket and drone attack at the army base. Hezbollah‚ which is based in southern Lebanon‚ has fired more than 1‚000 rockets‚ mortars‚ missiles‚ and drones at Israel since Hamas’ unprecedented terrorist attack on October 7 when the Palestinian terrorist group murdered 1‚200 Israelis‚ wounded 5‚300‚ and kidnapped more than 240. The Times of Israel reported that Hezbollah’s attacks were launched from “Lebanon at the northern communities of Arab al-Aramshe and Bar’am‚ as well as the Biranit army base.” No casualties were reported from the strikes but there was heavy damage and a fire that was started from the rocket barrage‚ the report said. Hezbollah launched a separate attack later in the day‚ firing approximately two dozen rockets and three suicide drones‚ presumably from Iran‚ at various locations along the Israeli border. Hezbollah‚ which receives more than $700 million per year from Iran‚ more closely resembles a small scale military than a terrorist group like Hamas. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned last week that Hezbollah was “playing with fire” as it continued to ramp up its attacks against Israel. “There are those who think they can expand their attacks against our troops and against civilians‚” he said. “This is playing with fire. Native American Heritage Month begins in November‚ a month when many Americans celebrate Thanksgiving. While this cultural month has excellent intentions‚ it is significantly more complicated for Native Americans. Thanksgiving is a difficult period for many Native Americans because of the numerous massacres that occurred around this time. In fact‚ many holidays are now a harsh reminder of a violent past that is frequently forgotten‚ glossed over‚ or idealized. For many Native Americans‚ the festivities this season signify the genocide of millions of Native Americans‚ the theft of Native American lands‚ forced relocations‚ and several attempts to eradicate Native American culture. At the same time‚ Native American Heritage Month aims to celebrate Indigenous peoples and honor the history of Native Americans across the country. A designated month allows us to reflect on our shared past while also honoring the resiliency and strength of Indigenous people across North America. It provides an opportunity to educate Americans about Indigenous contributions and gives Indigenous people a platform. While the intentions behind this heritage month are good‚ it often has unexpected consequences‚ repercussions‚ and microaggressions that are painful for some Native Americans. Here are some of the reasons why Native American Heritage Month is a complicated celebration that should be embraced with greater care. The myth of Thanksgiving Thanksgiving Day reminds many Native Americans of the genocide of their people‚ the theft of their lands‚ and suffering cultural eradication. Historical documents and testimonies more correctly describe the first Thanksgiving‚ which was celebrated in 1621; Native Americans were not invited and the events that followed were hostile and deadly. After the US was formed‚ the story of Pilgrims and Native Americans meeting peacefully was developed to support westward expansion and Manifest Destiny. This is just one of the numerous historical misconceptions that make this month so difficult. Thanksgiving marks the beginning of Native American assimilation‚ forced relocation‚ and genocide after the European invasion. The National Day of Mourning Native Americans have observed the National Day of Mourning instead of Thanksgiving since 1970. This day honors Native ancestors and gives space to mourn the massacres that took place. It’s also a protest against the racism and injustice Native Americans suffer today. Much of what schools teach about November’s historic events is erroneous or oversimplified. Not long ago it was not uncommon for many students to make paper headdresses and reenact Thanksgiving supper. Native Americans were sometimes presented in classrooms as disappeared people who are no longer around. Activities like this taught generations of students the misconception that all Native Americans are the same‚ making it hard for them to understand the unique diversity among the Tribal Nations. This promotes cultural appropriation‚ and the heritage month curriculum can sometimes perpetuate stereotypes. Actionable steps and activities to incorporate into Thanksgiving this year Passively accepting Native Americans and Indigenous peoples isn’t enough to be an ally this month. Non-Natives must decolonize alongside Natives to become allies. Here are some family traditions to add this year. Learn about the Native American Nations and Tribes in your area This month‚ allies may help Native Americans by “doing the work” on their own to learn about Native American history and culture. Using the Native Land app or website to learn whose land you are on is a great start. Although these maps are not perfect‚ the website is a useful resource for appreciating and learning more about your city‚ state‚ or country’s Native past. Simply enter the name of your place to discover about the languages‚ treaties‚ and history of the land you’re on. Even though it does not display the current tribal nation boundaries‚ you can use this information to learn more about the almost 600 federally recognized tribes in the United States. Celebrate and recognize Indigenous existence all year round Some Native Americans refuse to celebrate Thanksgiving‚ while others continue to do so as a tradition of showing gratitude. For non-Natives‚ it is possible to express gratitude throughout this season in a way that does not overlook the hardship or presence of Native people. While it is a great idea to have a month that pays special attention to Indigenous people‚ true allies will try to celebrate Native American history and cultures all year. Year-round learning includes celebrating Indigenous art and fashion‚ watching Native American media‚ reading books by Indigenous authors‚ supporting grassroots Native-led organizations and companies‚ and learning about their history and the realities of their lives today. Incorporate Indigenous foods into your Thanksgiving traditions In honor of Native American Heritage Month‚ consider celebrating Thanksgiving with Indigenous foods such as corn‚ beans‚ pumpkins‚ and wild rice. It’s an opportunity for folks who are unfamiliar with Native cultures to learn about Indigenous meals‚ recipes‚ and culinary skills while enjoying Native ingredients. Rumors that the war in the Middle East is about to go to the next level are flying all over social media right now.  The Iranians and the terror organizations that they support absolutely hate what is going on in Gaza‚ and they have been preparing to take action.  So will we see a major move soon?  That is hard to say‚ because there is so much that goes into such a decision.  But the former commander of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards is publicly telling us that “in the coming days” we will see “additional fronts join the conflict in Gaza”… Amid threats from Iran-backed Yemeni Houthi rebels to block Israeli ships in the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait‚ former commander of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards‚ Mohsen Rezaee‚ cautioned that “In the coming days‚ we’ll see additional fronts join the conflict in Gaza.” Rezaee told Lebanese news outlet Al-Mayadeen‚ affiliated with Hezbollah‚ that “if the pressure on Gaza’s residents continues‚ the war will receive greater support. Hamas is not alone; it has the support of resistance forces in Lebanon‚ Iraq and Yemen.” So precisely what does he mean by “additional fronts”? I wish that I could ask him that question. Iran’s foreign minister also seems to have confirmed that this war is about to heat up.  He recently stated that “the first stage of the war’s escalation has begun”… Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian echoed his statements‚ saying that “the first stage of the war’s escalation has begun via resistance factions making their own decisions. If all attempts to stop these crimes fail‚ all options are on the table‚ and the regional situation could shift.” By using the term “the first stage”‚ he is seemingly implying that more stages are coming. Without a doubt‚ I think that the mainstream media will be using the word “escalation” quite a bit during the dark days that are ahead. In fact‚ when the Houthis decided to hijack a cargo ship in the Red Sea‚ that was definitely an “escalation”… A cargo ship has been hijacked in the Red Sea by Iranian-backed Houthi rebels from Yemen‚ with up to 22 crew members believed to have been taken hostage. The Bahaman-flagged ‘Galaxy Leader’ is reported to have been boarded by armed men as it travelled south past the Arabian peninsula on its way to India this weekend. The vehicle carrier is registered under a British company which is partially owned by an Israeli tycoon‚ and is currently leased out to a Japanese company‚ according to reports. The Houthis are so proud of what they have done. In fact‚ they even released a video on social media that documented the hijacking… The Iranian-backed Houthi rebels on Monday released a video showing Sunday’s helicopter-borne raid on the Galaxy Leader‚ a Bahamian-flagged vehicle carrier transiting the Red Sea. The Houthis still hold the ship and its 25 crew members. A U.S. military official told The War Zone it is believed to be the first Houthi helicopter attack on a ship. The video opens with a view of a Houthi Mi-171Sh variant transport helicopter with what appear to be UB-32 rocket pods and a PKM light machine gun at the door flying toward the vessel. The helicopter – bearing the black‚ red‚ white and green Palestinian flag and the red‚ white and black Houthi flag – flies low over the ship stern to bow and then lands just long enough for at least seven armed Houthi fighters to jump out and board the Galaxy Leader before the helicopter flies off. The Houthis are a bunch of crazed Shiite lunatics‚ but they are only going to be minor players in this conflict. The real concern is what Hezbollah in Lebanon will choose to do next‚ and on Monday they reportedly caused “extensive damage” at a military base in northern Israel… A rocket attack from Lebanon has hit the IDF’s Biranit base in northern Israel‚ the IDF confirmed on Monday. Footage posted to social media shows extensive damage and fire caused by the devastating shelling. The IDF confirmed that rockets were fired at the base. Times of Israel correspondent Emmanuel Fabian reported on social media that Hezbollah is responsible. As long as Hezbollah limits their attacks to military targets‚ things won’t escalate too much. But once Hezbollah starts launching missiles at Israeli cities‚ we will definitely enter very dangerous territory. Once thousands of Hezbollah missiles start raining down on Israeli cities‚ the U.S. military will get involved‚ and the IDF will start hitting Beirut and other cities in Lebanon. On the southern front‚ the Israelis have been talking about expanding their operations into southern Gaza‚ and for now the Biden administration is publicly supporting such a move… A high-ranking White House official reacted on Sunday‚ telling CBS News’s “Face the Nation” that Israel has the “right” to expand its operations; however‚ he said the Biden administration still hopes such a plan is delayed while additional safeguards are put in place to avoid harming more civilians. US Deputy National Security Adviser Jon Finer said‚ “In the event that we believe that Israel is likely to embark on combat operations‚ including in the south‚ we believe both that they have the right to do that‚ but that there is a real concern‚ because hundreds of thousands of residents of Gaza have fled now from the north to the south at Israel’s request.” The further that the IDF goes into Gaza‚ the more enraged the Iranians and the terror organizations that they support are going to become. It appears to be just a matter of time before this war spirals completely out of control.
