Major developments began unfolding in the Middle East on Wednesday, following the announcement that the United States is reducing personnel at its missions in Baghdad and Erbil and reportedly permitting dependents to leave other countries in the region, such as Bahrain and Kuwait. The move comes after Iran’s Defense Minister Aziz Nasirzadeh threatened to strike American bases if nuclear negotiations fail and conflict arises.  “All U.S. bases are within our reach and we will boldly target them in host countries,” Nasirzadeh said during a press briefing. The comment comes ahead of the sixth round of nuclear talks between the Trump administration and Iran.  DONALD TRUMP HAS A RECOMMENDATION FOR GRETA THUNBERG AFTER HER ‘SELFIE FLOTILLA’ A State Department official confirmed to The Daily Wire that it is reducing its “footprint” at the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad. “President Trump is committed to keeping Americans safe, both at home and abroad,” the official said. “In keeping with that commitment, we are constantly assessing the appropriate personnel posture at all our embassies. Based on our latest analysis, we decided to reduce the footprint of our Mission in Iraq.” Fox News’ Jennifer Griffin reported that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth authorized the evacuation of dependents amid rising tensions with Iran. “The safety and security of our service members and their families remains our highest priority and U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) is monitoring the developing tension in the Middle East,” a defense official reportedly said. “Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth has authorized the voluntary departure of military dependents from locations across the CENTCOM AOR.” HOW TRUMP AND RUBIO PUT AMERICA FIRST IN 100 DAYS The head of U.S. Central Command General Kurilla postponed his Thursday testimony to lawmakers set due to the tensions in the Middle East. According to Axios, Israeli officials told the outlet that the IDF has been on “extremely high alert in recent days” due to possible escalation with Iran. Trump has expressed his preference to resolve Iran’s nuclear challenges with diplomacy but has threatened military force if a deal cannot be made. When announcing the talks earlier in April, Trump said Iran could “be in great danger” if diplomacy failed. “I think if the talks aren’t successful with Iran, I think Iran is going to be in great danger,” Trump said. “It’s not a complicated formula. Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon, that’s all there is.” Last month, during an interview with Fox News’ Maria Bartiromo, Trump said Iran can be handled militarily or through negotiating a deal. “I would rather negotiate a deal,” he added. “I’m not sure that everybody agrees with me, but we can make a deal that would be just as good as if you won militarily. But the time is happening now. The time is coming up. Something’s going to happen one way or the other.” TRUMP SANCTIONS SHADOW BANKING NETWORK FUNDING IRAN’S NUCLEAR PROGRAM Hegseth previously said Trump is “dead serious” about preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon, and is open to options such as using the military. “He wants it done peacefully, and that’s why he’s going straight to these talks,” Hegseth said. “But he’s also dead serious that if we can’t figure this out at the negotiating table, then there are other options – to include my department – to ensure that Iran never has a nuclear bomb.”

A New York jury on Wednesday delivered a mixed verdict in Harvey Weinstein’s sexual assault retrial, finding the former Hollywood mogul guilty of one count while acquitting him of another. The jury found Weinstein guilty of forcibly performing oral sex on former “Project Runway” production assistant Miriam Haley in 2006, but acquitted him of criminal sexual assault against former model Kaja Sokola. They remain deadlocked on third-degree rape charges related to actress Jessica Mann, who testified that Weinstein had raped her in a Manhattan hotel room in 2013. Since the trial began last week, the jurors have been contentious with one another. The judge even ordered them to pause deliberations and “cool down” earlier on Wednesday, per The New York Times. Weinstein attempted to capitalize on the situation, arguing to Justice Farber that the jury conflict was grounds for a mistrial. “This is not right for me, for me the person on trial here,” Weinstein told the judge. “This is my life on the line, and you know what, it’s not fair. It’s simple. It’s not fair.” “It’s time, it’s time, it’s time to say this trial is over,” the former Hollywood mogul said. Farber denied Weinstein’s request: “Jurors fight. They act childish at times. They get heated. I’m not going to allow any injustice to happen to you.” This retrial followed the New York State Court of Appeals overturning Weinstein’s 2020 conviction, which had become a defining case of the #MeToo movement. “If this person wasn’t Harvey Weinstein, would we even be here?” Weinstein’s attorney, Arthur Aidala, asked during closing arguments, maintaining the encounters were “transactional” and “consensual.” On June 5, Weinstein told FOX 5 New York that he acted “immorally” but insisted, “never illegal, never criminal, never anything.” Over the past six weeks, three accusers testified: former “Project Runway” production assistant Miriam Haley, actress Jessica Mann, and former model Kaja Sokola from Poland. Regardless of the outcome, the 73-year-old former producer, who has been diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukemia, will likely return to California, where he’s serving a 16-year sentence for a separate 2022 rape conviction. Weinstein’s lawyers filed an appeal for his 2022 conviction last year, which is still in process, per NBC. Judge Farber instructed the jury to continue deliberations on Thursday regarding the remaining charge related to Sokola’s allegations.

Actress Zoe Saldaña claims the golden Oscar statue she won for Best Supporting Actress in the musical drama “Emilia Pérez” is “gender fluid.” “We have it in my office and my Oscar is gender fluid,” the 46-year-old celeb told People during a red carpet premiere for her new movie, “Elio.” Saldaña added that the statue is “trans” and “goes by they/them” pronouns. “Emilia Pérez” racked up 13 Academy Award nominations this year, but wound up only winning two. The film was a frontrunner early on, but was plagued by controversy, including some controversial tweets that resurfaced from the film’s Best Actress nominee, Karla Gascon, who is a man who identifies as a woman. Saldaña won Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of Rita Mora Castro, a lawyer who helps a Mexican drug cartel kingpin undergo so-called “gender-affirming” surgery.  During her BAFTA acceptance speech, Saldaña called the film a “creative challenge of a lifetime” and said it “defies categorization.” Saldaña is not the first to declare that her Oscar statue has a gender – or lack thereof.  In 2023, Jamie Lee Curtis announced that she was referring to her Best Supporting Actress Oscars trophy as “they/them” in honor of her 27-year-old child, who identifies as transgender. Curtis won that year for “Everything Everywhere All At Once.” “I’m in support of my daughter Ruby. I’m having them be a they/them,” Curtis said while getting emotional, per Variety. “I’m going to just call them ‘them.’ They/them, and they are doing great, they’re settling in, and I just, in my life, I never saw it in a million years that I’d have this couple days, and I’m very moved by the whole thing.” Ruby Guest is one of two children Curtis has with her husband, Christopher Guest.

Several high-profile celebrities are speaking out against the Trump administration conducting immigration enforcement operations in Los Angeles. Leftist actor Mark Ruffalo vented his feelings on Instagram, calling America an “oligarchy.” “You want to get rid of the people who are picking your food, without a care in the world for who is poisoning your bodies with chemicals that aren’t meant to ever be in nature. You want to drive out those who make your life easier but do not question those who dull your minds with lies and disinformation meant to confuse you and destroy brotherly and sisterly love for us here? You are pointing your guns in the wrong direction,” he wrote in the lengthy diatribe. “Can’t you see that maybe we are being tricked to tear each other apart while they rake it in?” Ruffalo also came down hard on Trump, saying the president “prioritizes maintaining all his wealth” while people suffer. “The billionaire up at the top is stealing you blind and you are worried about the poorest of the poor ruining your life? The president is a grifter,” he added. Jennifer Garner, Pedro Pascal, Melanie Griffith, Marisa Tomei, Rachel Zegler, and Halle Berry all “liked” Ruffalo’s post. Influencer Kim Kardashian also railed against ICE agents doing their jobs. “When we’re told that ICE exists to keep our country safe and remove violent criminals — great,” Kardashian wrote in a statement shared to her Instagram story Tuesday. “But when we witness innocent, hardworking people being ripped from their families in inhumane ways, we have to speak up. We have to do what’s right.” The SKIMS founder also discussed “how deeply immigrants are woven into the fabric of this city.” “They are our neighbors, friends, classmates, co-workers and family,” Kardashian wrote. “No matter where you fall politically, it’s clear that our communities thrive because of the contributions of immigrants. Kardashian also shared a video of rapper Doechii condemning the raids during her BET Awards acceptance speech on Monday night. “There are ruthless attacks that are creating fear and chaos in our communities in the name of law and order. Trump is using military forces to stop a protest,” the Florida native said from the stage, as The Daily Wire previously reported. “I want y’all to consider what kind of government it appears to be when every time we exercise our democratic right to protest, the military is deployed against us. What type of government is that?” she continued. On Monday night, President Trump mobilized an additional 2,000 National Guard troops to Los Angeles to join the 2,000 Guardsmen deployed by the Trump administration over the weekend, along with 700 Marines that were sent on Monday. The protesters, including many waving Mexican flags, have also blocked traffic on roads and highways. Trump wrote on Truth Social that he has directed his administration to take all necessary steps to end the “Migrant riots” and continue the deportations of illegal immigrants. “A once great American City, Los Angeles, has been invaded and occupied by Illegal Aliens and Criminals. Now violent, insurrectionist mobs are swarming and attacking our Federal Agents to try and stop our deportation operations — But these lawless riots only strengthen our resolve,” Trump posted on Truth Social. “Order will be restored, the Illegals will be expelled, and Los Angeles will be set free,” the president promised.
